The British Are Coming #4

To Reveal a Reckless Love

Rate this book
WHEN LOVE FEELS RECKLESS, FAITH CAN LEAD THE WAY.

In a desperate attempt to find her missing brother, Victoria Castleton leaves behind the comforts of Boston for the wild beauty of Yellowstone National Park. Her search leads her into the path of Roger Bernhardt—a gifted British artist with a guarded heart. What begins as a chance meeting soon becomes a journey neither expected.

Roger came to America seeking inspiration, not entanglement. But from the moment he sees Victoria’s determined gaze, he’s drawn to her quiet strength—and the mystery of the brother she’s willing to risk so much to find.

As their path leads from the wonders of Yellowstone to an Idaho ranch called Eden’s Gate and the small town of Gibeon, Victoria and Roger discover that God’s plans often look nothing like their own. When danger threatens the town and hearts are tested by fear and longing, they must decide if the love growing between them is only temporary—or the home they’ve both been searching for.

A story of second chances, steadfast love, and the courage to follow where God leads.

This series continues to bring forth inspiring stories of romance, faith, courage, and love in Idaho in the late 1800's. The settings are described in vivid detail and the characters are likable and realistic. It was fun to see Roger Bernhardt's story come to life as he meets and gets to know Victoria Castleton who has traveled from Boston to find her brother. As he helps her with her quest, they become friends. Their's is not a feasible relationship for more as they have different goals. Or is it? Sweet story!
I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review from the author. These are my thoughts.

I'm so excited for the release of TO REVEAL A RECKLESS LOVE, Book 4 in The British Are Coming series. I tried hard to show the world through the eyes of a visual artist (Roger draws and paints with oils and water colors). It was a treat that my editor is married to an artist, so she appreciated my efforts. I hope readers will too.

If you are looking for a lovely frontier story you only need to wait a couple for weeks for this! To Reveal A Reckless Love is a lovely story of two people on a journey trying to find something important to them but they also find each other as well. I will admit I was deeply touched by this story!

We are introduced to Victoria who is trying to find her missing brother. She ends up at Yellowstone National Park far away from the comforts of her Boston Home. We are introduced to Englishman Roger who came to find inspiration however, once his path comes entwined with Victoria he can't help but wonder if there was something else he found as well.

“I couldn’t go forward without you. Turns out, I don’t want a hundred new landscapes. I want one place. The place next to you. Wherever that may be.”

This wonderful story set in the late 1890’s West has lovely characters, lots of faith, amazing descriptions, a dash of danger, and a sweet romance. I love how seamlessly scripture and Biblical truths are woven into the story. I especially enjoyed the descriptions of the scenery from an artist’s viewpoint, all the colors and references to light painted beautiful pictures.

Roger is talented, kind, and seeking his way. I loved how his thoughts about his freedom changed. His almost instant friendship with Victoria was so fun! I loved seeing the park and nature through his artist eyes. Victoria is courageous, strong, and determined. I love how she was willing to travel across the country to find her brother and how quickly Roger was willing to help her in her quest. I enjoyed seeing her view of home and what God had for her change. There were so many sweet moments between Roger and Victoria. I loved the epilogue!

I enjoyed seeing Eden’s Gate Ranch and so many great characters from the previous books too. This is book 4 in the series, but it can be enjoyed as a standalone.

One more quote:
🏔️ Home. It had taken him awhile to realize that he’d needed a home more than he’d needed freedom. And in finding his home, he’d discovered he was more free than ever before.

Roger Bernhardt came to America with friends for a visit to a ranch in Idaho, but soon fell in love with the West and decided to stay. As an artist, he wants to try to capture this amazing land on canvas.

After not hearing from her brother in almost a year, Victoria Castleton leaves her home in Boston to search for him in Yellowstone National Park, his last known location.

Roger is headed into Yellowstone for two months of sketching and painting when he meets Victoria at the hotel. Realizing he met her brother in town, Roger offers to accompany Victoria back to Idaho in hopes of finding him.

To Reveal A Reckless Love is the fourth book in The British Are Coming series by Robin Lee Hatcher. I enjoyed Roger and Victoria's story, and the setting of this historical romance is beautiful. The descriptions of Roger's paintings are amazing, especially the one of the bison.

I received a free copy of this book. I volunteered to read it and write a review.

Robin Lee Hatcher has another classic on her hands with To Reveal A Reckless Love, the fourth book in Ms. Hatcher’s The British Are Coming series. In To Reveal A Reckless Love, Readers travel back to the 1890s and meet Rodger, a man from Across the Pond who escaped to America to fulfill his dreams of being an artist, and Victoria, a woman from Boston who is traveling to Yellowstone in search of her brother whom she hasn’t heard from in months after he traveled out west to focus on his art. After a mishap with a carriage, Victoria meets Roger, who is also headed in the same direction. Roger offers Victoria a ride in his carriage, where they strike up a friendship. Victoria tells Roger about her search for her brother and Roger offers his help. As their search carries on, Roger and Victoria’s admiration for one another secretly grows, but their confusion on where God is leading them individually may put a hold on Roger and Victoria’s relationship being anything more than friendship.

I loved Robin Lee Hatcher’s To Reveal A Reckless Love! Ms. Hatcher’s books have become a safe place for me to escape to, where a good story is to be had, and lessons in God’s Truths abound and To Reveal A Reckless Love carries on this tradition. I love how The British Are Coming series uses the trope of the British coming to America and finding more than they ever expected. I loved meeting Roger and Victoria! I love the way Ms. Hatcher wrote how Roger thought and processed his feelings about art and how he visualizes painting scenery or people! Victoria came across to me as up tight, but not in a snobby way, but because of how she is a stickler for the rules and survival due to what life has dealt her. I also saw how Victoria grew as a person and how it caused her to mellow out, being more relaxed because life is too short. I felt for Roger and the struggles with following his heart or following his dreams, because sometimes its two different things. I love the theme and message of what “home” is in the book! Showing us that with God at the helm, “home” is different and better than we even imagined. If you are looking for an escape that shows you how you can be grounded and at home in the midst of life’s uncertainties, then I highly recommend To Reveal A Reckless Love by Robin Lee Hatcher! I’m really looking forward to reading what Ms. Hatcher creates next!

I just finished this book in one setting in just under four hours, and I daresay, it is one of my favorites!!! It is the 4th book in the series, The British are Coming, but can be read as a stand-alone work. I was immediately transported to a land I have never seen, but through Hatcher's cleverly penned and chosen words, such vivid imagery brought the Tetons, Yellowstone, the prairies, the shimmering lakes, the sunrise, midday, sunset, mountain ranges, bison, and other animals native to this area to life and leapt from the pages enveloping me as if I were right there seeing it firsthand. As a reader, a great work brings both a smile and some tears while reading it, and Hatcher elicited both from me on more than one page. To Reveal a Reckless Love blessed, enriched, comforted, and spoke to me, while transporting me to another time and place. It reminded me that many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails. Victoria Castleton finds security and comfort in a plan and structure. Roger Bernhardt wanted freedom and solitude. When their worlds collide in Gardiner, Montana nothing will ever be the same for either of them! Roger intends to spend time painting Yellowstone and Victoria is looking for a brother she has not heard from in over a year. In finding Victoria's brother, finding each other, and Roger being commissioned as an artist, they find something much greater as the pages and story unfold. Roger was left,... "wondering if freedom had less to do with choosing the open road and more to do with choosing someone on purpose....Home. It had taken him awhile to realize that he'd needed a home more than he'd needed freedom. And in finding his home, he's discovered he was more free than ever before." And for Victoria, " She'd crossed a country because of love, never imagining that an even greater love awaited her in this place.... She'd come home. To a place where laughter lingered around the supper table, where roots grew deeper with every season, where love-steady and faithful-was more than enough."

I received an ARC copy and the views expressed here are solely my own.

To Reveal a Reckless Love is the fourth book in Robin Lee Hatcher's faith based series, The British are Coming, set during the late 1800's in Idaho. This particular title finally gives readers Roger's story, and it was a delightful read that was definitely worth the wait.

After Roger rejects the life his father had planned out for him, he finds himself in Idaho knowing he wants to paint, but not much beyond that. When a chance encounter introduces him to Victoria Castleton, a lovely woman who has come west to look for her missing brother, the two instantly strike up a friendship. However, as each looks to God to provide His way and His path for their lives, they'll end up realizing that our plans are seldom actually what God has in store for us.

With beautifully descriptive passages about the landscapes, a lovely focus around family, faith and friendship, and the romance I've been waiting for Roger's character to find ever since his character was first mentioned in an earlier title, this heartwarming story was a lovely read to curl up with, and is a beautiful addition to the series. I especially loved hearing about Yellowstone during this day and age, and how it was already such a large tourist attraction so many years ago.

I'm glad to hear there's going to be at least two more books in the series, and I look forward to discovering which characters the author is going to introduce us readers to next.

Final Rating 4/5.

Thanks so much to the author for allowing me to read and review this title!

What a lovely, lovely story! I could definitely imagine visiting Yellowstone during the historical time period of 1896. The author uses exquisite words to describe the scenery. Although I've visited Yellowstone, to see it through the eyes of the main characters was even more touching because there were no cars or paved roads or modern amenities. The raw beauties of the land, wildlife and weather helped add so much to the story. Roger chafed at the control his father had over his life in England until he came to America where he could freely use his talent of being an artist. His father didn't allow that and wanted him to join him in the family business. Roger feels free in America to paint the wild beauty of the mountains and wildlife found in and around Yellowstone. He meets Victoria there who has come from Boston to search for her brother whom she hasn't heard from in a long time but the last letter she got was from Yellowstone. Roger has no desire to be tied down with a wife and family, but he wants to help Victoria find her brother and her search happens to lead to the very area where he's been staying.
I loved the faith element of both characters as they lean on God to help them with their lives in making decisions and get through their trials. I also enjoyed the description of the modes of transportation because I'm sure glad I don't have to do that today! I'm spoiled!

This was such a sweet story of finding "home" in the unexpected. Roger has chafed against the control and expectations of his father his whole life. When his father dies, Roger decides to stay in America instead of returning to England, and looks forward to a life of freedom with no roots to keep him in one place. Victoria likes order and predictability, but she travels to Montana to try to find her brother, the only family she has left. A chance encounter with the free-spirited artist, Roger, leads her to her brother and his new life he has built. The attraction between Roger and Victoria grows steadily, but neither is willing to let go of their own dreams of what they want from life until they realize what is really important and that home is not a place, but a person.
The author's descriptions of Yellowstone, the Tetons, and the desert are so vivid you can see what the artist sees. I love this series and the mixing of English and American culture.

I received a copy of this book from the author as an ARC, but this is an honest review of my thoughts.

Victoria has traveled from Boston to Yellow Stone in search of her brother. After their parents died, she took care of them. When Brian came of age, he left to go west. He wanted to be an artist and draw. She wanted him to focus on his education and a stable job. Now she's going to Yellow Stone in search of him. When she arrives in Gibeon, ID, she takes a stage to the Yellow Stone hotel. On the way, a wheel breaks. Roger has hired a private wagon to take him to the Yellow Stone hotel for the summer. He plans to paint all summer. He offers Victoria a ride to the hotel since she is traveling with 4 other men. She agrees. She feels that Roger has his head in the clouds like her brother, but he does help her to find her brother. They return to Eden's Garden where Roger was staying. Her brother and his wife are only a few hours away. She is delighted with the man and husband that her brother has become. Roger plans to travel and paint. He has no desire to be tied down.

Such a sweet book on finding that "home" can be so much different than what you imagine.

I was invited to read this book by Robin Hatcher. The cover was beautiful and I was eager to start.

Victoria found herself stranded by the side of a stagecoach. The coach was not going anywhere. She wasn't sure what to do. It didn't take long before she was rescued by another coach headed in her direction. She was searching for her lost brother. But what she found changed her life completely.

The location of this story was the western part of the US. Ms. Hatcher described the views as an artist would. It was breathtaking. And Roger, an artist, attempted to capture this in his art.

The relationship between Victoria and Roger started out friendly. But with time, they both felt much more.

Did Victoria ever find her brother? Did she lose her heart in the process? And what role did Hope have in her future?

True Freedom

Is freedom choosing the open road or choosing to stay? Roger faces just this dilemma. Victoria was an unexpected blessing in his life and he must decide what the future looks like now. Victoria wants a place to feel like home, a place of belonging and love; Roger is unsure what he really wants.

Their story is a gentle unfolding of a heart’s desire and a discovery of what life can really mean. Victoria and Roger both want God’s direction for their new lives; they had just never expected His leading to be down this path.

This was a lovely story that I enjoyed very much. I recommend the rest of the series and look forward to the series continuing. I received a complimentary copy from the author and these are my voluntary and honest opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.

Our dreams and desires as well as the path we take are not always God’s Way. To Reveal a Reckless Love highlights this for Victoria Castleton as she travels from refined Boston to the ruggedness of Yellowstone National Park searching for her brother. Roger Bernhardt, a talented artist from Britain, has plans to draw, paint and travel throughout America. They have an unplanned meeting in Yellowstone and from there the journey begins. Did I mention that those are their plans? Will they discover God’s plan is so not the same? Will Victoria find her brother, and will Roger discover the true desires of his heart? Author Robin Lee Hatcher is so talented, and her stories are so inspirational. A great gift for yourself or a friend.

This is the fourth book in Hatcher’s The British Are Coming series. If you’ve read the earlier books in this series, you’ll be familiar with Roger Bernhardt, the artist. This book tells his story of finding home, love and freedom in America, and coming to understand what each of those things really are.

I enjoyed the book. There are plot twists, beautiful scenery, romance, and more. I was happy to find out there are at least two more books coming in this series! Reading about travels at that time to see Yellowstone makes me appreciate all the more paved roads and comfortable vehicles!

I finished the novel last evening and I was so moved by the story line and the detailed description of the Grand Tetons and the passages where Robin described the paint colors used to paint the buffalo to name a few. As I read the last page, I felt I knew each of the characters and was pleasantly surprised to see how Victoria took a chance, stepped out of her comfort zone and became more adventurous in her decisions while Robert who was so adventurous realized staying in one place was what he needed. This is definitely a 5+ star novel. I am looking forward to the next story in this series, The British Are Coming.

I read this because it was suggested to me on Kindle Unlimited and I used to like this author. But I find that I require a lot more from a book now and these light romance novels don’t satisfy. Nothing wrong with it. Just not for me any more.

So great to read Roger’s story! He was like a dangling participle for me! And glad William will find true love, but can’t guess who the 6th in series might center on. But looking forward to the read.
