This book had a lot of promise, and I really liked the ideas it tried to bring forward. The concept behind the power system in particular had the potential to be something unique and exciting. Unfortunately, for me, the execution just didn’t quite deliver. The rules and structure around the magic felt underdeveloped, which made it hard to stay engaged with that side of the story.
The romance was where I struggled the most. It started with some tension and distrust, but within a matter of days it jumped straight into “fated mates,” and I didn’t have enough time to really believe in or root for the relationship. The dynamic between Cassian, Kaeldric, and Brynn had moments that hinted at an interesting love triangle, but it never really blossomed into anything compelling. Instead, the relationships felt rushed and underwhelming, leaving me a little disconnected from the emotional core.
I did enjoy the family element, it added warmth and sweetness to the story, and I always appreciate when strong family bonds are highlighted. That said, twelve children felt a bit over the top, especially given the circumstances. It was one of those details that pulled me out of the story rather than drawing me in.
Overall, I wouldn’t say this was a bad book, and I think other readers could enjoy the themes of love, loyalty, and family. For me, though, the pacing of the romance, the uneven dynamic between characters, and the lack of depth in the power system made it difficult to fully connect with. It’s a story with heart, but ultimately not one that worked for me.
That said, I might still read the second book just to see if the story might improve a bit. As well as I might buy the book because the cover is still gorgeous.

It was... OK.
The book has good threads and some of the characters, including the sword, are interesting.
Why just "meh"?
Premises are nothing new or spun in original ways, and the plot twists (so far) are quite predictable.
That in itself wouldn't bother me, but I just didn't feel the romance between the two main characters. It's luke warm at best. There are no goosebumps, no build up.. It just sorta is?

I really enjoyed this book.
Brynn is from the dregs aka the bottom of society. Magicless = penniless and worthless in this society and that is what her family is. They struggle for even the most basic of necessities. Until one fateful night (isn’t that how they are supposed to start?!) she runs into an Elite while trash diving for food….. yes you heard that correctly! So broke they are trash diving so they don’t have to cook rats for dinner… again! The Elite basically say “BOOM here is my mark for you to go into the arcane trials and compete to win magic…” and a few other things, and this begins her true journey.
Kaelric is the MMC I have my eye on. He is broody, dark and handsome, possessive and protective. Oh, and he is a werewolf (wolfkin in this series). So basically the perfect combo haha. They have to bond at the start of these deadly trials and of course it was a wild ride.
Something I didn’t like… Brynn is so wishy washy sometimes. She just takes things at face value without digging any deeper. She listens to the Elite (her enemy) about Kaelric (her bonded wolf) and immediately believes without even asking!?!? And she does it a couple times too so I was very annoyed.
However, she does get it together eventually so I was all in for the characters. I think the magical premise is unique enough to be intriguing and the development of the plot was keeping me hooked. This was a quick but satisfying read. I truly can’t wait to read the next one.

Doesn't quite live up to the synopsis
So, this is a very watered-down version of the Hunger Games with none of the excitement.
It was okay in the beginning. Had some decent buildup for where this was headed.... and then kind of flopped.
This has a very young feel to it. Younger than the Hunger Games. Even though those books were YA, there were high stakes and character development that fostered connections for the reader. I didn't feel any of that here.
The trials held some promise, but in execution, they were easily defeated. The first one was an interesting idea, but in reality, we read about darkness, saw little action, and ultimately, it wasn't harrowing at all.
This whole book was that way, actually. The romance was given no time to breathe. It's very rushed and hot and cold for no reason. The angst didn't fit the circumstances, and I didn't feel the connection that was supposed to be between them. While the ending was supposed to be sad and heartfelt, all of it was so sudden, from first sight to the end of the book that it just didn't hold the emotional water it should have. Time could and should have been spent building that relationship properly. Actually, if the unnecessary angst earlier on had been nixed for proper buildup, it would have hit better.
Instead, I found myself rolling my eyes. Especially because Brynn seems to only pick pieces of conversations that she can use to justify her silly behavior rather than reflecting on the whole of it.
This is too young for me. And probably for most adult readers. It feels more suited to 13-15. It does have good family elements to it, but the rest is very lackluster.

Honestly I liked this a lot more than I thought I would! Like I think if I was younger I would’ve given this book 5 stars!!! With age I’ve gotten more opinionated and have read more so it wasn’t perfect for me, buuuuuttttt I still had an amazing time and really liked it!!
Also the way I think the romance went at the right mf pace🙂↕️ like okay, some moments I was like this feels a bit off, but it didn’t rush things like I’ve read in other books. It was honestly a breath of fresh air!
Oh oh and Brynn did not piss me off! Like she was an 18 year old yanno feeling all the feels and sometimes thinking irrationally, but like hello who wouldn’t be thinking these thought?! Plus she bounced back from them pretty quickly (or at least it felt like that)! It was very easy to give Brynn grace in my eyes! Which, after reading through Diem the dumbass POV (Everflame series), I feel spoiled!

I loved this fantasy book! This was such a great, binge worthy read. I loved following Brynn is this story as she bonded with a powerful weapon as well as a wolf protector to compete in deadly trials in order to try to win magic for herself and her family. I was immediately invested in the characters in this story and felt completely immersed in the world the author built. This book was constantly on my mind until I had the chance to finish reading it and I need to know what happens next. Savage Crown can’t come out fast enough!

It’s formulaic, right down to the very last detail. She’s a teenage eldest daughter who never had enough to eat and always takes more on for her siblings. She’s chosen. She’s Feyre… No, wait, she’s Brynn. 🙄
I predicted it all.
Much of the writing is juvenile. So is the FMC.
But I enjoyed it. Even if Brynn did irritate me. Repeatedly.
I recommend if you’re looking for an easy Romantasy read. If you’re looking for depth, growth, or surprises, this is not the one for you.

Brynn is a Dreg a member of society that grows up in the worst part of town her family struggles to just survive. When a chance encounter changes her life forever when she's thrust into the Arcane Trials. Should she win she will become an elite and have magic for all her family. However, death also looms as she is picked by the sword who hasn't chosen anyone in a long time.
I love Brynn and Kaelaric they both have a reason to win the Arcane trial and need each other in order to do just that. They have this undeniable chemistry that just works so perfectly, and the more time they spend together the more they get attached. I also liked Cassian who sponsored to get Brynn in and helped with training. I found the characters easy to connect with and just loved them.
I knew the moment I saw the cover this was a must. The author has created a captivating story to match such a stunning cover. I was hooked on this one right from the start losing all track of time and devouring it in just one afternoon. I loved every moment of Brynn and Kaelaric's story and can't wait to see what happens in the next duet. I loved Traitor Wolf it's a beautiful story that captured my heart and left me book hung over. Highly recommend recommend checking out all her books because I love them.

In Aerlyn, the Elites got all the housing, clothing and food while the dregs lived in poverty and had to work multiple back breaking jobs the Elite did not want to do. Brynn our FMC is a Dreg trying to survive the cast system the Elites have pushed the magicless into and provide for her large family. Until one night changes that forever and presents a too good to pass up opportunity to Brynn but there's a catch. Brynn is given the chance to participate in the Arcane Trials where she meets Kaelaric. The Arcane Trials tests strength, will and worth, winning the trials gives one Elite a chance to bond with a Wolfkin and gain magic for themselves and their entire bloodline and for the wolfkin a chance to wield a powerful weapon. Kaelric is a traitor wolfkin, and Brynn has to put her entire trust into him if she wants to win the Arcane Trials and provide a better life for her family and the citizens in the Dregs...
Whew I have such mixed feelings about this book! For the first half I was kind of annoyed with the repetition about the class systems. Yes world building is important but I feel like mentioning it once or twice is fine but reminding the reader the entire first half can be annoying and takes away from the story imo. The FMC can also a bit insufferable at times with the push and pull of her thoughts and emotions when it comes to Kaelric, the trials, and her own confidence but, maybe that's because of how she grew up idk lol. Overall, I enjoyed diving into this book and will definitely be reading book 2 in December because I love Kaelric and I hate cliffhangers lol.
P.S a portion of the proceeds for this series will go to support the local food banks in Spokane Washington (LOVE THAT!!).

I am in my wolf-shifter romance era! This book was easy to follow and a quick read. It gave me dystopian vibes which is something I am so into right now. I will say, it had some of the same premises as my favorite dystopian novels and movies.
Some of the tropes I loved: deadly trials, bonded mates, cranky MMC, magicless FMC, and a magic weapon (loved the magical weapon).
Favorite line, "boop"!

This one..dare I say is even better than the Fallen Academy series. I don’t even know why I’m surprised but Leia Stone writes amazing characters. I was listening to Rosalia’s LUX album whilst reading this book and damn it paired so well!! I almost felt like I was watching a TV series in my brain whilst reading this book. Ugh I need MORE. I can believe I’m saying this, but this series needs to be more than two books. I need a trilogy at least. Not me saying that and being physically incapable of waiting for the end of December for book 2 to come out.

If there’s anything about Stone’s work, it’s that it has an addictive flavour to it that soaks every page of the book. I expected nothing less in Traitor Wolf and Stone met those expectations exactly as I thought she would!
In the genre of fantasy, magic systems are often the fulcrum on which a book rests. A strong and well positioned fulcrum results in an extremely balanced and smooth experience of it lifting the rest of the aspects of the world. Safe to say, you can expect a solid (metaphorical) fulcrum in the form of a unique and intriguing magic system in Traitor Wolf.
I greatly enjoyed the mix of social and fantastical elements in TW. The author has written these two elements in stark and painful contrast to one another, and ensures we understand just what social evils are being addressed in this book. There were so many scenes in TW that address the importance of community, family and compassion and this just might be my favourite book that represents love within a community (and does it so well).
The book reads primarily in single person perspective and delves into the life, thoughts and choices of the FMC. Outside of the fact that it helps in providing a dive deep into the main theme of the story—which is the living conditions and circumstances of the lives of the people in the Dregs—it also truly helps the reader see the world through the eyes of a younger character. I was greatly appreciative of the author for making her FMC young enough to make the mistakes and have the kind of courage and personality that comes with it, and at the same time wiser than is typical for an eighteen year old, after having lived through the kind of life that ages you. I’ve often experienced older characters behaving much like someone a lot younger, but I was grateful to see—perhaps for the first time in awhile—an 18 year old behave her age for the most part.
The book is absolutely big bite sized. Not so big that you have to take five bites to complete, but big enough that it’s one exact mouthful. *pauses* that sounds okay right? As a reader, I’m sure you understand what I mean. This book is the exact read I needed. I was slumping with another, that I unfortunately could not get into, and diving into Traitor Wolf snapped me straight out of that slump.

Given the size of the book, I personally think it was penned, plotted and executed so well. Well enough that I found there to be nothing that was left wanting. Humour, pain, romance, action, plot twists, heartbreak and suspense. Yes to all! In heaping, but perfect doses! Throughout the book! The book flies by even while staying with you in a way only some books can. I’m really really looking forward to the characters growing into their own, the story revealing itself more and the world created by Stone changing for the better.
Five stars!! Please check trigger warnings as there are themes and situations in this book that can be hard for some. Happy reading!

Safe to say, you can expect a solid (metaphorical) fulcrum in the form of a unique and intriguing magic system in Traitor Wolf.
I greatly enjoyed the mix of social and fantastical elements in TW. The author has written these two elements in stark and painful contrast to one another, and ensures we understand just what social evils are being addressed in this book. There were so many scenes in TW that address the importance of community, family and compassion and this just might be my favourite book that represents love within a community (and does it so well).
The book reads primarily in single person perspective and delves into the life, thoughts and choices of the FMC. Outside of the fact that it helps in providing a dive deep into the main theme of the story—which is the living conditions and circumstances of the lives of the people in the Dregs—it also truly helps the reader see the world through the eyes of a younger character. I was greatly appreciative of the author for making her FMC young enough to make the mistakes and have the kind of courage and personality that comes with it, and at the same time wiser than is typical for an eighteen year old, after having lived through the kind of life that ages you. I’ve often experienced older characters behaving much like someone a lot younger, but I was grateful to see—perhaps for the first time in awhile—an 18 year old behave her age for the most part.
The book is absolutely big bite sized. Not so big that you have to take five bites to complete, but big enough that it’s one exact mouthful. *pauses* that sounds okay right? As a reader, I’m sure you understand what I mean. This book is the exact read I needed. I was slumping with another, that I unfortunately could not get into, and diving into Traitor Wolf snapped me straight out of that slump.

Given the size of the book, I personally think it was penned, plotted and executed so well. Well enough that I found there to be nothing that was left wanting. Humour, pain, romance, action, plot twists, heartbreak and suspense. Yes to all! In heaping, but perfect doses! Throughout the book! The book flies by even while staying with you in a way only some books can. I’m really really looking forward to the characters growing into their own, the story revealing itself more and the world created by Stone changing for the better.
Five stars!! Please check trigger warnings as there are themes and situations in this book that can be hard for some. Happy reading!

Oh my word!! This story started out intriguing and drew me in more and more every moment! I love how the main character is a magicless human in a world where only the elites think they deserve magic, and how determined she is to change that for herself and for her family. The emotions were so high in this story. Every emotion, positive and negative, was felt so deeply but the characters that it made me feel the same emotions right alongside them. An absolutely amazing book with one heck of a cliffhanger. I seriously cannot wait for the next book!

This was a fast paced interesting story with lots of action and drama. Brynn is a fierce FMC fighting for what she loves most- her family. Kealric the MMC is mysterious and heroic- why is he helping Bryn win the trials? Book one ended with lots of questions and I have to wait until the 27 December for book two. OMG but it will be worth the wait.

Loved this so much!!
I had the hardest time leaving this book! I immediately started a reread. This is one of the best books I’ve read lately and I did not want to finish it knowing I have to wait till Dec 27th to read the next one. I absolutely love everything I have read by this author!! A big thank you to book the author/publisher for the ARC.
This was my first book written by Leia Stone and I was not disappointed. The world building was fantastic and the writing kept my attention from beginning to end. The characters were relatable. I kept picturing Ross Poldark as Kaelric! I did feel that the ending was kind of awkward. It seemed as though the MMC went out of character in order for there to be a cliffhanger However, I can't wait for book 2 and I'm hoping to be sent the ARC for that one too. Fingers Crossed.

This book isn't your ordinary book with trails. Due to the wolf bond, the trails are almost always together. But can Brynn truly trust her traitor wolf? She has no choise but to trust him or to die. But what if it turns out both her Elite mentor and traitor wolf are protecting and deeply caring for her?
Leia Stone really managed to create a storyline full of adventure, fantasy and a slow burn romance. Both Brynn and Kealric are wonderfull characters.

To sum it up, girl enters American Ninja Warrior contest with the goal of winning awesome magic powers and overthrowing the government. Wins sulky rich werewolf boyfriend instead.
I didn’t hate this book, I felt compelled to see how the story played out, but it really fell on its face around the halfway mark. There wasn’t really any romance, they just sorta had ended up in love? It was a lot more of a practical decision than an emotional one too. Like he insists the universe made a mistake even though that’s never happened before and then they avoid each other for a while and then they profess their undying love. Cool, I do not believe either of you.
A lot of the plot outside of the romance doesn’t make any sense. This contest lets people add strong magic into their bloodline, but if you already have strong magic like everyone else in the competition, why risk your life / reputation for this? I think it would have been more compelling if it was an opportunity exclusively to get one poor person out of the slums every five years, kinda like the Hunger Games, which the story was already ripping off anyway. That way the competition has much higher stakes and it’s actually fair. She doesn’t even get to know any of her competitors by name except the one. The competition stages are literally only platforms for her werewolf buddy to save her or whatever.
The high point of the story is the community where FMC grows up. They are root for her and every time she brings back food they are really grateful. I like that she has a huge family and she cares about all of them. Those parts were really nice and heartwarming.
Other plot holes did bother me like idk if this was explained somewhere and I missed it but why did this story even HAVE werewolves? What are the werewolves getting out of this? Do they win something? I mean we know the main guy wants the sword, but what do all of the other werewolves want? I was dying laughing thinking about all of his war buddies back home fighting for their lives thinking “ah man I wish our super powerful alpha was here to help, but he’s busy teaching a teenager how to do obstacle courses.” Hey man, at this point just eat the girl and steal the sword.
And don’t get me started on the stupid sword. I like the idea of a sentient talking sword as much as the next girl, but the sword woman should come with a spoiler alert warning. Usually plot twists or big reveals happen with some drama, even if you saw them coming they are exciting, but this stupid sword just tells FMC stuff so casually all the time. And she never gives context, she just messes up the plot and goes back to sleep. It’s very weird.
And the ending? Let me tell you, if I had to chose between having awesome super powers and potentially making my boring boyfriend evil or having a selectively helpful sword and my mother in law reading my thoughts all day, I would not have done what the FMC ended up doing. She is nuts.

An intriguing start to a new series, TRAITOR WOLF starts off with a bang and doesn’t let go until the very end. In this world, there’s a strong focus on class — the Elites have everything while people like Brynn, the Dregs, are forced to live off of what they can scrounge. When an opportunity to elevate her station in life falls at her feet, literally, Brynn takes the chance, but the opportunity comes with more than its fair share of risks. The story unfolds from that choice, giving readers an exciting and fast-paced tale that’s rife with danger, political intrigue, and a bit of romance to round things off.
The world Stone created here is dark, harsh, and I loved the caste system that the world runs off of. It’s a nice mirror to our own society where it seems the divide just gets bigger and bigger with each passing year. I also really liked the magic system. Deeply intertwined with the politics of the world, it’s yet another way to separate the haves from the have-nots.
There’s a strong theme of having to overcome adversity, which is reflected in Brynn and her journey for a better life. Being a Dreg comes with more than its fair share of hurdles, and Brynn shows such incredible strength and resilience throughout her entire struggle. I really enjoyed Kaelric’s character as well. He’s fighting his own battles as he’s helping Brynn, though It’s often unclear whether or not she can trust him. There’s nothing I love more than a morally ambiguous character.
All told, a great start to the Bonded by Fate duet, and I can’t wait to see how Brynn and Kaelric’s story concludes in book 2. Pick this one up if you enjoy:

It was a mistake to begin reading this in the evening because I just had to finish this and it’s midnight now. That being said, I loved it! Brynn was everything I like in a female main character and the plot was entertaining. Kaelric has his faults, but I loved that he wasn’t a perfect man/wolf who does no wrong. The part where he literally carried her body weight across the obstacle course was so swooony!! This book was clean, it did have some swearing but not heavy, and there was some tongue mention while kissing, but no more details than that.
Some things didn’t add up to me. Like how old Kaelric is and the sword’s age. And how the romance between his mother and father could actually happen with how he explained relationships between wolves and humans are not to be. Hopefully we’ll get some answers in book 2.

Is it December yet?! I need book two!
I am a huge fan of Leia Stone and the worlds she builds throughout her writing, and this book is no exception! I loved the chemistry between Brynn and Kaelric that continues to build throughout the story, and although there aren't any spicy scenes the storytelling sucks you right in that you won't even miss it. I need the ARC to book two because December is too far away with that cliffhanger!

⏳ Well paced, this one grabbed me immediately. Leia uses action, character growth, and dialogue to keep the plot rolling making for a quick read.
I'm a sucker for disadvantaged MCs who are struggling but providing for their families and
rise up against the system. That could play a role in why this literally got me invested with the first sentence.
✍🏼 Leia does well with writing descriptively enough to give you a clear, rich picture while not being overly wordy. Which I appreciate. Her writing is clear, accessible, and had me glued to the screen.
Her being magic-less was remarked on a number of times, which I'm confident is going to continue to be a plot point (so it isn't without warrant). But, the number of times felt a bit redundant to me.
There was some wishy-washiness regarding Brynn trusting someone and I found that a bit frustrating (although it's understandable for the character).
There are also a couple places Brynn reads as immature, and initially it bugged me. Then I reminded myself that while she had to grow up really young, that can have a big role in emotional maturity and growth. Plus, she's young (18), so her prefrontal cortex isn't fully matured. Reminds me, I love that the MMC isn't thousands of years old (he's 21).
🗺️ Bits doled out when we need them and without big blocks of text, the world is well built and described. It's interesting and shares some similarities (although more to the extreme) to the real world.
🔮 I found the magic interesting, well developed, and well explained. I don't want to spoil so going vague here, but there's an aspect of an object that I'm a true sucker for. I'm sure that played a bit of a role in my enjoyment of the magic system.
👥 Great characters with excellent development. We get in-depth backstories on the MCs, characters with dimensional personalities and nuance.
There were a couple or so times that Brynn was a bit slow on the uptake and it bugged me. Like girl, c'mon. 😂
🎙️I found the banter to be excellent and was possibly my favorite type of dialogue in this book. Smoothly fitting the characters and story, it reads as natural.
💖 The romance (this may be vague to avoid spoilers) - I'm not 100% sold yet. It was good, but felt a bit on the miscommunication side, at times. I enjoyed the slow burn, but wanted it to last longer. I want time to watch them grow close, build the tension.
here's my main issue with the romance: initially, Brynn is into one guy, and he seems to be into her. But then, she's all into this other guy and I thought we were going into a triangle and I'm rarely a fan of those. I'm happy to say it's never really a triangle, but does hover adjacent to it at times. The switch from enamored to love felt too sudden for me, too.
There's an aspect that I really don't know how they're going to get around. But this does mean there's now time for tension to grow. And it ensures that I'll be reading book 2 ASAP. 😆 I finished this book over a week ago and have spent a good bit of time since then trying to think of ways this could go from here.
🌶️ I would put this as🫑- there's some kissing. The spice aspect, for me, is more in the tension.

I adore that a portion of the sales of this book goes to support the very cause it’s written about.
Brynn Brighton is the oldest of twelve siblings, and her family has fallen on hard times since her father’s unaliving three years ago. Living in the Dregs means food is scarce, danger is constant, and the consequences for stealing or breaking curfew often lead to the mines. As the oldest, she shoulders the responsibility of finding food, and I’m loving the dystopian vibe mixed with her fierce determination. It really makes you wonder if the risk of scavenging is worth the price.
While searching for food, she accidentally touches a highborn. Her panic is immediate, but his reaction is surprisingly different. This elite stranger is dying, and Brynn doesn’t understand why. Before he goes, he gifts her something she never expected: magic. Suddenly she’s thrown into the Arcane Trials, a brutal competition offering real equality and opportunity if you win. She’s eighteen, magic less, and from the Dregs, but now she has a chance and a mission to carry forward.
The moment she steps into the trials, she bonds with a Wolf-kin named Kaelric, and I am obsessed. She’s an outsider with a mysterious sponsorship, and the connection to the elite who chose her raises so many questions. The world building is detailed and immersive, giving me Hunger Games meets academy fantasy vibes. Cassian, the truth-magic elite and brother of the man who sponsored her, adds even more intrigue to the storyline.
This story is riveting. The dual narrative, the cause behind the book, the poverty, famine, and desperation in the Dregs, and the magic system all build something special. Kaelric, the growly wolf shifter, is swoony, protective, and completely infuriating in the best way. And do not get me started on Valkeryn, the talking sword. He’s iconic. I’m listening on audio, and honestly I want the ebook too just so I can highlight everything.
The trials are intense and vividly described, almost giving a fae-magic energy. The slow-burn moments between Brynn and Kaelric made me swoon, especially when the forbidden romance angle started weaving in. Are they mates? Maybe. But the rules in this world make everything dangerous. Then the love triangle tension hits when Cassian steps in, and Brynn’s confusion feels so authentic. Both men are off-limits in different ways, and it adds so much drama.
I’m loving every minute of this book. It’s not your typical wolf-shifter romance, and the originality is refreshing. The action, the twists, the world building, the emotional moments, and the paranormal elements are all so well balanced. Cassian, the truth-magic elite and brother of the man who sponsored her, adds even more intrigue to the storyline.
This story is riveting. The dual narrative, the cause behind the book, the poverty, famine, and desperation in the Dregs, and the magic system all build something special. Kaelric, the growly wolf shifter, is swoony, protective, and completely infuriating in the best way. And do not get me started on Valkeryn, the talking sword. He’s iconic. I’m listening on audio, and honestly I want the ebook too just so I can highlight everything.
