Who needs boys when a girl?s got toys? The author of Come and Get Me has the answer in her sizzling new novel.
Lizzy Cross has given up on men. When it comes to fulfillment, they don?t come close to a night alone with her fantasies and a wide variety of immensely pleasurable substitutions. Then on the night of her sister?s bachelorette party, Lizzy finds herself staring at the very naked and very familiar torso of her ex?
Cockier than ever as a cowboy stripper in leather chaps (and nothing else), Ty is determined to win Lizzy back by taking his act off the stage and putting it back between the sheets. But will he be able to get past the kink that stands between them and show her the true pleasure a flesh-and-blood man can give her?
Author of fun, flirty and contemporary erotic romance and erotica, Alyssa Brooks currently writes for several publishers including Ellora's Cave. She resides in Amish country, Pennsylvania, where every day is a little crazier and the house gets a little messier. Taming her bad-boy husband is a never-ending task, but Alyssa's become a pro at giving him plenty of incentive. Proud mom to a young daughter, two stepsons, and a puppy that has a particular taste for shoes and unrolling toilet paper, Alyssa loves her hectic existence and is ever grateful for her awesome job as an author, where with a little research, she can become anyone, doing anything, and fall in love over and over and over again. The imaginary sex is great too!
What would you do if you were in the middle of your sister’s bachelorette party, and the stripper you hired for the main entertainment has ended up being your ex-boyfriend dressed in chaps and nothing else? In the novel Hard to Get by Alyssa Brooks it starts out with this premise, and it immediately grabbed my attention and never let go.
Elizabeth (Lizzy) Cross feels like she has just walked into the Twilight Zone. The teenage boy who abandoned her years ago is now standing before her in chaps, and nothing else, trying to convince her to forgive him, and give him another chance. Is he kidding? Lizzy has worked hard at giving everyone she knows the impression she doesn’t need anyone. Never wanting to be hurt again, she has made herself self-reliant in every way. She doesn’t even need a man in bed. That‘s what battery operated boyfriends are for. After all, they don’t call her the “Queen of Dildos” for nothing.
Ty Black can’t believe his eyes. Is this his sweet, innocent Elizabeth? Gone is the loving girl he once knew, only to be replaced by this independent, hard nosed, pink-haired spitfire. He had been hoping to run into Elizabeth again, he was just expecting to be fully clothed when he did…but who looks a gift horse in the mouth? He knows he has a lot of explaining to do, but is determined to get Lizzy’s forgiveness and hopefully win back her love.
There is more to Lizzy and Ty than meets the eye. They are childhood sweethearts from the wrong side of the tracks. Lizzy has endured abuse from her step-father and is desperate to leave. Because Ty wants to protect her, he convinces her to run away together. Not having any money or prospects they naively believe that everything will be okay as long as they have one another. When Ty is arrested for trying to steal an engagement ring, Lizzy thinks he has abandoned her and puts up walls around her heart, so she will never to be hurt again. Guilt-ridden and determined to better himself, Ty gets his diploma and is working his way through law school in the quickest way he knows how. Stripping.
Hard to get is a book about personal growth and forgiveness. Lizzy has many emotional problems she must work through. I thought she could be very selfish with her needs with Ty. I understand that he must work for her forgiveness, but there were times I thought she could be very self-destructive and almost cruel with her indifference with Ty and his feelings.
Ty is a hero that was easy to like. Smart, sexy and determined to better himself, he knows he made some silly mistakes in the past he must atone for. His determination to help and have Lizzy in his life was admirable to read about. As much as I liked him, and stood behind him as a hero, there were times I wanted him to tell Lizzy to jump off a bridge, and to find someone else. But, being the stubborn hero he is, he stuck it out with her, and in the end, I came around and thought that he and Lizzy belonged together. Both characters do some serious character development throughout the storyline. They must face their demons of the past to have a future together, and hopefully come out the better for it.
Hard to Get is the first book I have read by Alyssa Brooks, and it won’t be the last. It is a very fast-paced, emotional read that got my attention from the first page and never let go until the last word. I would like to give a few words of caution to some readers; if you are offended by strong language and explicit sexual situations, this book may not be for you. Otherwise, turn down the air condition, settle into a comfortable chair and enjoy!

Good book, but not a GREAT book. The potential was there for it to be really great, but it lost points on a couple things.
Hard To Get is a story about two former lovers who grew up together in bad homes. Elizabeth was 14 when 17-year-old Tyler finally had enough of her step-father beating on her and convinced her to run away together. They lived on the streets and Elizabeth gave him her virginity. Then Tyler got caught trying to steal a diamond ring for her and was sent to Juvie, leaving Elizabeth alone on the streets. Luckily for Elizabeth, she was adopted by a great couple, but she never forgave Ty for abandoning her.
Years later, Elizabeth, now Lizzy, is the owner of a club and the woman known as the Queen of Dildos. Her past experiences have hardened her heart and turned her off from men. She gets her satisfaction from her toys. Then one night at her sisters bachelorette party, a hot cowboy stripper comes out and Lizzy is shocked to see that it's Tyler. Who is just as shocked to see Lizzy. He's been looking for her and missing her since they were separated. And now he's found her again and doesn't intend to let go. Except Lizzy wants no part of him. She can't forgive him for what he did. Ty is determined though and keeps after her until she gives in. But getting Lizzy to forgive him and trust him isn't the only obstacle they face. Lizzy has to confront her demons before they can have a future together.
The first chapter of this book was great. It's amusing, a bit silly, sexy, yet not superficial. It really pulls you into the story, the characters, and the situation. I was anxious to keep reading.
I enjoyed the unique storyline line of this book, and the emotion the author conveyed. Lizzy was a total tragic heroine, in a sense. And the interactions between her and Ty in this story are a complete roller coaster ride.
Like some of the other reviews said, Lizzy does get on your nerves a bit. She's really nasty to Ty at times and he really shouldn't have let her get away with what she did. And maybe it's just me, but I don't think Ty should have sacrificed (job, college) as much as he did to keep working at Lizzy. So those two things irritated a little.
I also thought the middle of the book got a bit repetitive, sort of going around in circles over the same damn thing. I got kinda bored for a while because it was like Groundhog's Day. But it did get better and move on, get some variety. Still, some of the middle could have been cut out, or shortened. Something.
Anyway, this was a good book for me, that probably could have been a little better. I liked it enough, though, to add the authors other two full-length novels to my PBS wishlist. I'd like to read Lizzy's sister's story.
WARNING, this book contains: explicit sex, anal sex, liberal use of toys, and spanking
A hot sexy stripper that she just happens to know from her teenage years. She was madly in love with him and then he deserted her in an unknown town where she had to defend for herself. So when she sees him again she is sporting for a fight. That is not the way he remembers things. He rescues from a abusive home, he begs her to come away with him. He makes a mistake that he pays for and gets locked up. He can tell that she believes that he abandoned her. He must make listen. Because she is still the most important thing in life to him. Ty Black has been putting himself through college and working as a stripper not that he likes it but it pays for college. Elizabeth Cross "Lizzy" owns a bar and has done well. And these two have along road to mend to get where they need to be.
Ty is too moon-struck for my taste. I don't respect him for dropping his classes just because he's "so in love" with Lizzy. I mean, it's cool that he loves her that much, but damn, stop being a hypocrite then. If you want to give her the best, then stop dicking around. Also, Lizzy annoys me. She's a misogenist because of her past and her distrust of men, but then she drops her panties the minute Ty is there? I have no respect for either of these characters. They're weak-willed and (for lack of a better description) remind me of angsty teens, like...a worse Edward and Bella dynamic. Lizzy has emotional/mental issues that won't be fixed by sex and I felt like this was what was happening the entire book. UGH.
Elizabeth Cross throws her sister a bachelorette party but is so surprised when one of the strippers at the party looks just like her ex! That can't be possible right? Ty Black has always thought about Elizabeth and what an idiot he was to lose her. Will these two get a second chance or is Elizabeth happy with her "plastic" men.
Hard to Get is my first book by Ms. Brooks and I loved it. It was so hot and fun that I devoured every word.
Well there was a lot of sex in this one. Wish there could have been more of a plot to it. The sex scenes are what keep you glued to the book. The emotional pull doesn't really come to play until the very end of the book. The story was wrapped up in the last few pages. I don't know I felt like something was missing.
What a very interesting story for a reunion. A guy stripper that you hired for your sister's bachelorette party who happens to be your ex. Seriously what a strange reunion it is. I was pretty pumped up with the first to two chapters but I slowly get to lose touch with the story although I have to say that the story could have been better.
This one started out with what I thought was going to be a great story, but went a different direction. I found myself skimming more than reading it. Needed to send a little more time on the story, less on everything else. It just didn't flow right for me.
This is a good story about 2 people, love lost, then found with complications in between. WARNING LOTS OF SEX Some a bit kinky. but I liked the book, A good story.
