Roots & Wings by J.V. Avadhanulu is a heartwarming and thought-provoking book that resonated deeply with me. The story’s themes of love, resilience, and second chances are beautifully woven together, highlighting the importance of human connections and compassion.

What struck me most was the poignant portrayal of orphaned children and the need for collective support to give them a better life. The author’s message to come forward and adopt or help these children join the mainstream is both inspiring and thought-provoking.

Mr. J.V. Avadhanulu’s writing is not just a story but a call to action, urging readers to make a difference in the lives of those in need. His diverse background and experiences shine through in his writing, making the narrative even more impactful.

As a reader, I am impressed by the author’s ability to evoke emotions and spark reflection. Roots & Wings is a must-read for everyone looking for a story that touches the heart and inspires positive change.

Special mention to the author, my dear brother J.V. Avadhanulu, for pouring his heart into this book and sharing a powerful message with the world. Your dedication to spreading love and compassion through your writing is truly commendable.

If you’re searching for a novel that combines warmth, nostalgia, and social insight, this book is a hidden gem. It tells the story of a Muslim child adopted by an older Hindu couple, all through a simple, conversational narrative that feels like a chat with the author in his own living room, gazing out over a sleepy town.
What makes this book stand out is its ability to tackle complex themes—identity, belonging, and the anxieties of both the child, Zara, and her adoptive parents—without ever feeling heavy-handed. The author’s style is approachable and engaging, drawing you into the family’s journey and the subtle challenges they face.
Beyond the personal story, the book gently reflects on the broader changes in Indian society over recent decades. These observations are woven seamlessly into the narrative, offering readers both a personal and cultural perspective.
I highly recommend this book—not just as an enjoyable read, but as a nostalgic trip back to the simpler days of the 1980s. It’s perfect for anyone who appreciates stories about family, change, and the quiet beauty of everyday life.

This book is an honest look at identity, belonging, and the hopes and worries that shape a family.
The writing is simple, warm, and easy to connect with. Reading it feels like listening to a heartfelt story told by someone you trust. The author captures the small moments in life just as well as the big ones. We see the uncertainty of new parents, the quiet strength of a child trying to find her place, and the subtle social changes happening around them.
What stands out most is the balance between a gentle family story and meaningful social themes. The book touches on prejudice, stigma, and the challenges faced by children who grow up without support. At the same time, it shows how love can help people heal and grow. Zara is written with so much care that she feels like a real person you want to root for.
It is a truly touching and worthwhile read.

Roots & Wings is a contemporary fiction set in the charming town of Devlali, Maharashtra, India. The main character is Zara, a ten year old orphan Muslim girl. Zara lands in the home of a retired Hindu couple, just before the first lockdown of COVID-19 pandemic. I first sympathized with Zara in distant way but soon connected with her journey of self-discovery, growth, found-family and love. Zara gradually became one of my favorite fiction characters. The book comes across as an authentic story. It is the first book of the author and hence my rating is 5 Star. I look forward to the next book from the author.

This beautifully heartfelt story captivated me from beginning to end. At its core, it’s a powerful testament to love’s transformative strength—how it can mend wounds, nurture growth, and bring people closer to their truest selves. The author’s voice is refreshingly honest and unpretentious, allowing the emotional depth of the narrative to shine through without distraction. The epilogue, in particular, left a lasting impression—it was profoundly moving and brought the journey to a tender, unforgettable close.

In the book " Roots and Wings", Zara is a compelling character. For a writer, the societal issues of poverty, religion and justice and are forever favorite topics Reading the novel felt like sitting down with a friend who doesn't hesitate explore difficult topics . What is striking is how relevant the story feels. The themes of justice, prejudice, and moral courage are well explored in the novel. Considering that it's the writer's first work, I must admit that the novel exceeds expectations. The writing is simple and is easy to read. The flow is smooth and easy to connect with.
I wish the writer all the best in his future works.

Fabulous book! I couldn’t put it down until the very end! I felt that Zara was a real, living character. JV has written Roots & Wings with the skill of a seasoned professional, even though this is his maiden attempt. I’m eagerly looking forward to many more wonderful books from him.
