In the piney woods of East Texas, Amethyst Gold has built a quiet life with her two loyal cattle dogs, working tech support from her remote trailer and keeping to herself. She's spent years avoiding trouble and staying under the radar, but when mysterious glowing symbols begin appearing in the forest around her home, her carefully constructed solitude starts to unravel.
Everything changes when an enigmatic stranger named Loki walks into her world. Charming, dangerous, and clearly hiding secrets of his own, he seems to know more about the strange phenomena plaguing Amethyst's quiet town than he's willing to admit. As their attraction grows, so does the magical chaos surrounding them.
Soon, Amethyst discovers she's connected to an ancient bloodline with ties to powers she never imagined. When mysterious government agents begin circling her property and the supernatural intrusions escalate beyond mere glowing symbols, Amethyst must decide whether to run again or finally stand her ground.
With her small Texas town caught in the crossfire between ancient magic and modern forces, Amethyst faces choices that will determine not just her own fate, but the safety of everyone she's come to care about. Sometimes the most powerful magic isn't about spells or runes—it's about finding the courage to trust someone else with your heart.
A blend of urban fantasy, romance, and small-town charm, Twilight Runes explores themes of belonging, self-discovery, and the transformative power of love in the face of impossible odds.
Thank you Luna Runestorm for sending me an ARC copy of your new book, “Choosing Chaos”
This was a unique and interesting read. The story wove together Norse Mythology with a small East Texas setting (enjoyed all the comments of ETX being that I have lived here to past 19 years). With an interesting blend of Norse Runes and the modern world. Interesting twist on mythology.
Our FMC felt realistic and at times relatable. And I definitely pictured Tom Hiddleston as Loki.
I enjoyed reading this book and felt it was a cozy read but still gave off a small town mystery and a touch of X-Files vibe.
The writing was descriptive and atmospheric that I felt like I was actually in the pine woods and the small town. The rune magic was unique and that the story involved some Norse mythology.
I related to the FMC Amethyst, in wanting to escape life in a bigger city for one that is quiet and away from people. She is independent but still has a vulnerability about herself. The MMC, Loki is not the typical Loki we would assume he would be as a jokester. I found him charming, mysterious and I definitely pictured Tom Hiddleston while reading. I liked the romance and dynamic between them. I loved that Amethyst had a strong bond with her two dogs Mystic and Ash. Those two would do anything to protect her.
This book really was a great start and I hope to learn more about Amethyst and her family history. Miss Eliza is also an interesting character that I need to know more about. The town Amethyst lives in is a beacon for strange and mysterious happenings.
I got to read a bonus chapter and I absolutely loved it!! More mystery and supernatural beings to enjoy!
If you like romance, Norse mythology and rune magic and small town mystery, then this is the book for you!
What an interesting, unique, mysterious story! It wove together magic, mythology and suspense in a way to keep me hooked and enthralled. I really enjoyed getting to know more about the mythology that was interwoven throughout the book. I really liked the MMC! I am definitely interested in reading the next book to see how the story progresses!
NO SPOILERS! This is a wonderfully electrifying tale that masterfully weaves fantasy, romance, and even psychological thrills, effortlessly evoking the eerie atmosphere of Dean Koontz's earliest works, even while branching out in far reaching new directions. As I am a huge fan of Dean Koontz’s earlier novels, this delighted me tremendously!
First, we meet Amethyst, a strong-willed, independent young woman living on the outskirts of a small Texas town with her two loyal Australian cattle dogs, Ash and Mystic, trying to enjoy peace and quiet after some unsettling events in her life drove her to relocate. As it turns out, however, she's not alone. Mysterious golden runes appear around her, in the woods, on the paths, even on her house! And if that’s not enough, she's being watched by the deeply mysterious and enigmatic Loki, a complex character both wonderfully familiar and stunningly new. This is not the MCU Loki at all, and not quite your standard Norse Mythology Loki, but it is extremely easy to visualize Tom Hiddleston also playing this part, just—with some delightfully delicious differences!
As their paths collide, Amethyst is drawn into a world of magic and danger, forced to confront dark forces threatening to destroy everything she holds dear. Does the mysterious Miss Eliza know what is happening? Does Sarah? Does Loki? Who is on her side—and who is against her? Or what? With its breakneck pacing, vivid world-building, and pulse-pounding action sequences, this story will captivate fans of mythology, suspense, and romance alike. The bond between Amethyst and Loki is palpable, and the twists will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Dive into this gripping narrative and discover why you'll be sleeping with the lights on afterwards. You don’t even have to be a Loki fan to enjoy this—but it doesn't hurt!
This was a fun and enjoyable read filled with small town vibes mixed with some paranormal aspects. Luna wove a great story. I really look forward to reading more of her work.
This book was a fun read, different than a lot of recent books I’ve read. A cool magic aspect mixed with romance. There were some slow parts, but overall a great book.
Edit, I got to read the bonus chapter too, loved the deeper dive into the main characters and a peak at even more supernatural things in the world.
I read this as an ARC Review (my first one). I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this read. It was perfect for a fall cozy read. If you are a fan of magic, runes, Loki 😉, a badass female main character (Amethyst) and puppies- this one is for you.
Wonderfully electrifying tale that masterfully weaves fantasy, romance, and even psychological thrills. This was a great read, Luna Runestorm is an author to watch for. Can’t wait to read more.
What would you do if you fell in love with Loki… and then he started stalking you? Now add a shocking magical awakening, fate-level chemistry, and the realization that together you might be powerful enough to save literally everything. Welcome to the unhinged, irresistible ride that is Choosing Chaos.
Luna Runestorm gives us a Loki who is unapologetically chaotic—obsessive, clever, dangerous, and completely magnetic. The “is this romantic or should I run?” tension is top-tier, and the slow realization that his fixation is tied to something far bigger than desire keeps the pages flying. When the truth comes out, that the protagonist has magic of her own, the story shifts from dark paranormal romance into full-blown power-couple destiny.
The chemistry is explosive. Loki doesn’t just fall in love, he claims, protects, and schemes alongside a heroine who grows into her power in a way that feels earned and thrilling. Watching them go from stalker-and-stunned-human to “us against the cosmos” is wildly satisfying. Their relationship is messy, intense, and fueled by mutual respect for each other’s chaos.
Choosing Chaos proves that sometimes the world doesn’t need heroes—it needs two morally gray forces in love, ready to burn the rulebook and save reality on their own terms. And honestly? Loki has never been more convincing.
Choosing Chaos by Luna Runastorm was such a fun paranormal romance! The story weaves together Norse mythology, runes, and a fiery chemistry between Amethyst and Loki that absolutely pops off the page. It’s the perfect mix of myth, mischief, and passion — with that irresistible “choose chaos” energy running through every chapter.
Amethyst is bold, funny, and relatable, while Loki is everything you’d want from a trickster god—unpredictable, dangerous, and utterly magnetic. I couldn’t stop reading once their paths collided!
If you love mythology, magic, and romance with a playful edge, Choosing Chaos is a must-read. I give it 5 stars and a full recommendation!
Choosing Chaos was an intriguing start to the series. The world-building pulled me in right away—magic, danger, and a steady unfolding of mystery that kept me reading. I genuinely enjoyed the story and I’m definitely planning to continue on when the next book releases.
My biggest wish was simply more male main character POV. The dynamic hinted at so much depth and tension, and I kept wanting to see inside his head more often. I think his perspective would’ve added emotional weight to several key moments and strengthened the character connection overall.
Even so, this book has a lot of potential, and I’m excited to see where the series goes next. I’ll be picking up the sequel as soon as it’s available.
Luna did a great job blending adventure, love, mythological and understanding oneself. Let's talk about her characters name Amethyst an Loki such great names which fit the stories.
She also did a great job writing the surrounding areas which made me feel like I was there in the story.
I love how Luna wrote Amethyst to understand and be better than those before her to fight for what is write.
This book was a cozy read that has elements of magic, small town vibes, romance, and fantasy. I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys Norse mythology.
While reading this I was captivated by Mystic and Asher and loved every part of their involvement.
A captivating mix of small-town mystery, rune magic, and Norse mythology. Amethyst is a relatable, independent heroine with a heartwarming bond to her dogs, and Loki is mysterious and irresistible. Beautifully written, atmospheric, and the perfect blend of magic, romance, and suspense.
Received an ARC from the author and all I can say is "Thank you!" What a great read. Adding Loki to a smal Texan town and adding more humanity to him just worked. We'll worth the read and can't wait for the next one.
