Taming Mr Winters

I never meant for him to reply after dropping anonymously into his DM to give my strong opinion, yet he did. Colt Winters is a gorgeous billionaire in NYC, and I’m just your average young woman living in Australia… with a huge mortgage.

Chalk and cheese.

So, of course, I message back.

Colt replies once more.

Next minute, we’re flirting, and I find myself at work biting my bottom lip, trying not to giggle in front of my unsuspecting colleagues.

I know I need to stop. I know he probably has a dozen model girlfriends, and if I don’t stop it’s going to end in tears (mine). I know he’s just playing around.

… but a knock on my door one day, changes everything.

Taming Mr. Winters is Book Three in The Obsidian Club series - a steamy billionaire romance series. If you love spicy workplace romances with touch her and die themes, bantering wealthy alpha men, and a scorching happy ever after, then you’ll love Colt’s love story.

Jesus F Chr*st this MMC is an absolute a**hole. He spends this entire book lying to the FMC repeatedly, not using a condom 3 different times which forces her to take the Plan B pill repeatedly. Then when we find out she is surprise pregnant (literally 1 week after sex 🙄) he's angry and says to her "I will not let you k*ll our kid."

I mean...this book is not only filled with story flaws, typos, and men's bad behavior, but then this utter bullshit where the MMC verbalized his intention to force a woman to carry a pregnancy HE caused through his repeated negligence is so so gross.

0 STARS and a hearty "fu*k you" to this author.

SPICE LEVEL: Rated R / 2-4 descriptive sex scenes, may have harsh language.

CONTENT WARNING: surprise pregnancy after the MMC fails to use a condom 3 different times and then the MMC tells the FMC "I will not let you k*ll our kid." when she mentions potentially "taking care" of the situation

POV: Dual - M/F - 1st Person

Finally! I’ve been waiting for this one! Now that I’ve finished it I’ve almost given it a 5 but Colt’s cageyness held me back. Everything up until Riley visits him in New York was a 5. The flirting, innuendos, blatant sexual advances and Colt’s romantic streak were on point. However, I felt like he was hiding behind the sex, masking his true feelings for Riley and essentially making her feel like a toy. In his own way that he pursues her he was showing that she means more to him than a meaningless fuck. He showed his emotions to her, made love to her and put her pleasure first. The passion was there and off the charts plus the gestures he would do for her. Anyone from the outside looking in could see that there was love there and it looked like a relationship, to me it was one no matter how many times they denied it. The book itself was highly sexualized, and a far cry from the last book I read which focused on the connection and conversation. This one was definitely more physical based. Normally I would complain about this but for some reason I liked the direction it went in this. It was nice to witness Colt with no inhibitions and immersed in the moment. I felt like he was showing himself without the facade in his own way. Plus, his mouth was just dirty and it felt more personal because you felt his personality in those words and it was definitely more descriptive. Juliette did a good job making us feel like Colt was opening up but at the same time, still holding Riley at arms length, but you couldn’t tell unless she asked him about his personal life, being work and friends. This is where his cageyness played a factor that I didn’t like. He gave the impression he was hiding something big and would avoid the conversation completely, bringing it back to talking about sex and seducing her, making her forget the questions. Fling or not, you have to let someone in at least a little bit and him dancing around this became annoying so I can see why Riley would be upset and hurt, like he didn’t trust her but in anything else he would show that he did. It was a lot of mixed signals too that at some points in the story I didn’t know if he really was using her as a toy or if he really cared about her. The lines started blurring for me and the fact that after he starts technically seeing Riley, he still decides to be the next bachelor. It all didn’t make sense to me. One minute he’s all over Riley and the next he distances himself and pulls away, only thinking about the physical and forgoing any talk about the future and moving forward. It wasn’t fair that he was stringing her along for his own selfishness. If I was Riley, I would think things would be serious too, especially with how fast their relationship escalated and how it was making them both feel. Overall, great spice, funny and touching story and had all the intense passion and emotion. I just wish Colt didn’t dance around things and give mixed signals. The book also felt too short for me, I would have liked more, maybe a forward epilogue that talks of Colt and Riley after marriage and having their baby, because surprise! This was tossed in there too but I’m not surprised with how reckless Colt was being even after knowing she wasn’t on birth control. He couldn’t help himself by going there with her, which I actually liked that he couldn’t control himself around her. The idea that he just had to take her that way, further showing that maybe this meant more to him than he was letting on and maybe he low key wanted it to happen. The quick ending and Colt’s mixed signals were the only things that had me giving this a 4. If only it stayed up to par with how the beginning of the book and with a little more to finish on, I felt, then I would be giving this a 5. This one has been my favorite so far though I think.

4⭐️ ooh this one is different from all the previous book in the series.

I wasn’t completely sold on Colt and Riley’s connection through their first few DMs. I just didn’t quite feel the spark at first. But once they started FaceTiming and getting to know each other, their relationship really grew on me.

Before reading this book, I honestly thought Colt was the cold nonchalant one of the group, the guy who always had a blank expression and somehow always said the right thing whenever he appeared in the previous books with a smirk or chuckles. So I was pleasantly surprised to discover he’s actually sweet, a little goofy, incredibly persistent, and completely head over heels for Riley.

I loved how clear he was about wanting her. He flew to see her, flew her to New York, and never played games about his feelings. Even when he held himself back, it wasn’t because he was terrified of commitment like the other Obsidian heroes. Deep down, I think he genuinely wanted marriage, which was such a refreshing change.

The reasons he hesitated also felt realistic. It wasn’t because he assumed Riley was after his money. Instead, he worried about the distance and the fact that she had built a life she genuinely loved with her gardening business. He looked around New York and saw nothing but concrete, knowing she’d miss being surrounded by nature. When she admitted she would miss the gardens, it made perfect sense why he struggled to ask her to leave everything behind. It came from a place of love rather than arrogance, and I appreciated that.

Of course, they avoided having the conversation they really needed to have, but honestly… if they’d communicated properly halfway through the book, it probably would’ve been half the length. 😂

The only thing that really annoyed me was Colt constantly forgetting to use a condom, leaving Riley to deal with taking emergency contraception. Thankfully, unlike some of the other heroes in this series, he never blindly blamed her or spoke to her disrespectfully, not even once. He never talked down to her, never acted condescendingly, and never made her feel like she was beneath him. (Unlike Sebastian from the first book…) Instead, it always felt like he admired her and genuinely valued her, and I absolutely loved that for a change.

The spice was much better in this book, more connections. I do wish we’d gotten to see more of Colt’s involvement with the exclusive sex club, though. Every book only gives us little glimpses, and I kept wanting more.

One of my favorite things about this series continues to be the friendship between the Obsidian guys. It’s hilarious that they’re all billionaires who constantly pay each other to do ridiculous things. In this book, Colt literally pays Drew to sleep on the airport floor so he can catch Riley before her flight. In the previous book, Mason paid Zander to go undercover at Lexi bar where she’s working. Their friendship, banter, and unwavering support for each other make the series so much more entertaining.

Ironically, when it’s someone else’s love story, these men give fantastic advice and make surprisingly mature decisions. But the moment it’s their own book, they completely lose all common sense. 😂

Overall, this was another fun read. Colt was such a refreshing hero after the previous books. I’m liking the books more and more throughout the series. I loved that his biggest obstacle wasn’t assuming Riley wanted his money, but figuring out how two people with very different lives could make a future together and it’s okay to do one thing as a time as long as they are in it together. He respected her, admired her, chased after her, and made it obvious that he wanted her, not just a physical relationship. That made this romance much easier to root for. Okayy Drewww now let’s read your storyyy

I immediately connected to this story. I loved the set up. In a word, it was FUN! Details didn’t trickle in but rather were immediately incorporated into the storyline and frequently reiterated without becoming tedious. I loved how JB gives us a character, (egotistical Colt Winters/34), who always has his pick from a herd of women, day or night. But none of them attract him anymore. He’s lived such a hedonistic life of sexual debauchery that he’s reached a limit where he’s no longer capable of attaining genuine satisfaction/gratification. Smex with random women is never enough. Something is missing in his life and he has no clue what it means. He’s bored. Through IG and then texts, he meets an anonymous spitfire who tells him off (for some of his public comments). Now THIS completely intrigues him. Suddenly life has a spark. Riley Scott is a novelty. She’s sexy and living in Australia, so she’s untouchable making her all the more desirable to Colt.
I loved the delicious banter this author gives us. That alone is worthy of the purchase price of this novel. But then JB tops herself and gives us the delightful Riley Scott/28. I especially was drawn to Riley because she’s relatable, independently strong and genuine. She’s refreshingly real. This story is lighthearted with some drama for balance. It’s got almost too much smex. Almost. I skipped over a lot of it as it’s basically the same scene. It introduces a set up to book #4 with each installment keeping the memory of their murdered friend, Jack, alive. I predict the final installment to this series will give poor Jack and the boys their due justice.

NEGATIVES:
1. If you’re having phone sex, holding the phone in one hand so your partner can watch, then suddenly you get busy with both of your hands pleasuring yourself, who’s holding the phone?
2. When someone ignores your calls and texts, it’s not called gaslighting (which is psychological manipulation). It’s called ghosting. Just saying…
3. Let it be known: There’s several editing issues, incorrect punctuation and other grammatical errors. It’s not anything to derail reading enjoyment but for some readers (like myself) it’s distracting and annoying.

“Taming Mr Winters” is the third book “The Obsidian Series” - a billionaire romance series with a romantic suspense twist. If you love spicy workplace romances with touch her and die themes, bantering wealthy alpha men, and a scorching happy ever after, then you’ll love Colt and Riley’s love story. Colt and Riley live on opposite sides of the world.

The book has so many twists and turns - from page to page, chapter to chapter, you will not be able to put it down! The story is intriguing from the start and I could not put it down. A thoroughly enjoyable read from page to page, one chapter to the next - at times you are metaphorical “on the edge of your chair” wondering what will happen next. Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 😊

Colt Winters (age 34) owns The Obsidian Club, a high-end bar which tailors to the elite of New York’s society. He is one of Sebastian’s best friends.
Riley (age 28) is the owner of Garden of Riley, a landscaping business. She’s constantly having to advocate herself for choosing a ‘masculine’ job.

This was a sweet read as you really get excited for Riley having that dream come true of finding this rich, handsome man you really connect with. Colt is so sexy and wraps himself all around Riley, that girl couldn’t stand a chance!

Love the character cameos and steamy/sweet scenes.

I loved this! It was sooo good. The banter between Riley and Colt is so hot. She a landscaper in Australia and he’s a billionaire bar/ club owner in NY.They meet online. It’s a whirlwind romance with him flying to Australia and showing up at her door. They are so good together. Juliette never disappoints. This is a must read.

worth the wait

I waited for Colt’s story. I’m glad I did. He caught my eye in the beginning of the series and he did not disappoint. Who doesn’t dream of slipping into someone’s DMs and having their world completely rocked. Did I want to throttle him at one point? Absolutely! But he managed to win me back! Give Volt and Riley a read. You’ll be glad you did.

Well written easy read. Enjoyable mr Winter can have any type of beauty he desired but Riley was the polar opposite she was a beautiful landscape gardener from the other side of the world whose paths had crossed on the internet.
Interesting to read how their story unfolds will they manage to solve their differences. Read and see.

It’s fine, I guess?

If I was Riley I never would have forgiven Colt. He did not grovel enough for his sins.
