‘You are my ward. My captive to keep alive—or kill. You decide that fate. You decide if you ever see your friend again… or if you bleed out at my boots.’
One minute, I’m on a road trip across Canada with my friends, the next, darkness is spreading through the sky, drenching it like spilled ink on parchment—and then came the dark warriors.
In a world-wide blackout, torchlight and the death of my friends is all I come to know. But Bee has a plan, because she has a secret—but it’s a scheme thwarted by the dark warrior hunting her, the one who laid a trap for us in the middle of a frozen city— He steals Bee from me… and leaves my life in the cold hands of a fae warrior different from the others, carved from ice, hollow—and utterly terrifying.
His task is to take me with his unit back to the fae realm, where hopefully I'm reunited with Bee. But that’s months away, months of trekking difficult terrain in a harsh winter, and no way of contacting Bee, to learn if she’s even still alive.
She faces the same danger that I do. Broken promises, fractured bargains, and death at the hands of the fae captors.
________________________________________________________________________________________________ Hunted by Fae is a dark fae series, with dark romance elements, and whose content warnings should be read. This series is slow-burn, totally unethical, morally challenging, and in classic Blackbird fashion, dark-dark.
QUINN BLACKBIRD is a wanderer, a caffeine addict, a concern to her teachers & a bit of a dork. You can find Quinn buying gym equipment she never uses or being dragged out of the writing cave by pesky friends. Mention "margarita" and she'll come ah-runnin.
QB's goal is to live on a farm with rescue animals and write!
Now beware!! Blackbird writes about everything she loathes. This makes for books that are darker, grittier, anti-heroes, messed-up characters, and dark worlds. It's not a guarantee you'll find redemption in her pages. Because, as Gaslight Her warns, 'sometimes, the villains win.'

I used to love this authors books. She had unredeemable mmcs who just couldn’t help but like. And while the endings were not always your typical happy ever after they did still have the satisfaction of a conclusion. However, her last few releases have been long drawn out series with no real substance. I felt this book lacked a plot and character development. I was disappointed because I was excited for Sammick’s story and I felt this book was a fluff filler piece in a series.
{Apocalyptic world; M/F; clean ‘romance’ so far; gore and violence}
This is the second 5-star book I read during my Christmas break. I absolutely loved it, but I do love dark apocalyptic romances.
What most engages me is the world details. I know the pacing is slow and the plot is slow, but I love the descriptions of stumbling in complete darkness where only the fae can see, sliding on blood and slush past broken down pickup trucks while heading towards complete destruction of the next town. The fight scenes are believable and leave me scared for humanity.
The fae have conquered sunlight and the troop Tensi is following has assigned regions to destroy. Tensi is sometimes fragile and relatable, sometimes not. As she states, she used to be a snarky, self-reliant person in the Before. As a captive, she has to rely upon the ice fae (who is apparently different from the dark fae conquerors) to protect her, and it is demoralizing. His bargain to protect her is undefined. We don’t know why he is willing to keep her alive for months, but he certainly doesn’t protect her from harm. Slowly he realizes she needs comforts, like an inhaler and tylenol and boots. And food.
Bee is not given a chapter in this second of the series, but I am glad. I really want to know how Tensi is going to reach her HEA. She is not Kuri, or part-Fae. She lacks the strength and durability, but what she lacks she substitutes with stubbornness and grit.
The ROMANCE: ============== If you want steam, wait to read this until book 3 is out. There is nothing here, but a slow recognition that fae have mates, can love, can have human characteristics. They gift their lovers, but don’t seem to have strong touchy-feely interactions. I love how alien they seem.
Dark dystopian romantasy (tessniXsammick) I devoured this book. Quinn Blackbird is one of my favorite authors as she always writes the darkest of the dark and mostly one POV. There isn't really any romance as much as an enemies to lover's tension but still on the enemies? I read these as romance some beg to differ because of the trigger warnings they don't seem to have read. This is gritty, bloody, angsty, and full of tension. I had hoped this book was about beeXdare But even though I wasn't as fond of the pairing in this book it's still ate and I binge read it as much as I could. I'm rather sad that this whole book was on this pairing and I don't see how this can only be a total of three book series. I hope the next book is nothing but the main pairing that started this trilogy. Either way if you like the dark fae universe you'll enjoy this.
I really, really enjoyed this book but the reason I didn’t give it five stars is because it was very slow until three quarters of the way through when it really picked up pace and the action and tense situations were non stop.
I loved the nicknames that Tesni had for the fae, they made me chuckle and her calling Samick ‘ iceberg lettuce eyes’ was hilarious! I really liked how the feelings changed between them both throughout the story and am really excited and intrigued to see how things develop.
I like the writing and story, but it's too short and everything happens too slowly. We didn't progress much in the story, not a lot is happening. Is Tensi and Samick supposed to end up together? Given the current pace we'll need 10+ books to get there.
I wish the books were longer and with more substance.
Really love the world building, it’s a slow burn for sure, but I love everything Quinn Blackbird, so there’s that. The way she writes, I can feel myself trudging through the winter with these fae. It’s a great book and I can’t wait for the third book!! Thank you!!
Love these characters so far Samick is my favorite . Tried to make the story last ,but I went right thru it . I love the dark Fae dangerous and fascinating. Now I must suffer the waiting .
I was hoping for more Dare and Bee but loved the change to Samick and Tensi! Be warned, there’s a cliffhanger when things start getting really interesting. Cant wait for the next book in this series!
Devoured this in one sitting. But it was too short, and the plot or romance didn't advance much. I Need More Now! I'm thinking this might be a 5 installment series like Daxeel and Nari, or even more since 2 couples are involved. *rubs my hands together in anticipatory glee*
