Ignored and neglected by her mother for most of her life, Kayla Peschke grew up under the influence of her mentor, Zhang Jing. Now, as a teenager, Kayla is highly skilled in Shaolin kung fu and is fluent in Mandarin. Unfortunately, Kayla possesses two undesirable traits that make her life unbearable. First, she suffers from an extreme case of nelophobia, the fear of glass. In addition, she is a racist who both fears and hates African-Americans. Though highly intelligent and beautiful, Kayla has no friends except for her coworkers at Zhang Jing’s restaurant, the Golden Dragon. During a near-death experience, Kayla discovers she is the reincarnation of Angela Quinn. Later, while researching her past life, Kayla learns Angela was a high school senior who died at the hands of her boyfriend, Jayden Baine. Aware now of Angela’s presence within her, Kayla realizes the fears and prejudices that burden her are not her own. In order to free herself of Angela’s influence, Kayla decides to seek out Jayden and deliver him to justice. However, in order to confront him, Kayla must submit herself to the dark, underground world of human trafficking.
