At 45, Ellie Hanson is newly divorced, emotionally exhausted, and trying to make peace with a quiet, predictable life. But when she adopts Isabel—a soulful senior dog—she doesn’t expect her new roommate to break into the downstairs neighbor’s apartment… or to introduce her to the kind of spark she hasn’t felt in years.
Laura Wolf, thirty, brilliant, and in the final year of her ER residency, has built a life that avoids complications. Relationships are fine—as long as they stay unserious. But the moment she shows up at Ellie’s door, led along by a very determined beagle basset mix, everything turns electric in the best and worst ways.
The attraction is immediate. The age gap is significant. And the emotional baggage is stacked high. As Ellie and Laura build a friendship grounded in longing, honesty, and shared TV nights, they both find themselves wanting something they never more. But wanting more doesn’t mean knowing how to ask for it—or what to do once you have it.
In this witty and tender slow-burn age-gap romance, Isabel may have started it… but falling in love is entirely up to them.
Emma Langston hails from the Southeast but currently lives in New England. She thoroughly enjoys the winter weather and appreciates that it gives her an excuse to stay indoors, wrapped in a heated blanket, and placate her voracious appetite for reading.
When she's not tapping the keys on her laptop or busy indulging her utterly adorable dogs and wife, she binges on HGTV, disaster shows, and stand-up comedy. She also excels at the craft of planning elaborate and meticulous trips to places she will never visit because she would rather write about an adventure than have to go outside for one.
Ellie, divorced, book loving Editor. Isabel, her middle aged floppy eared doggy. Laura the neighbour, flirty blonde Hospital ER Doctor.
I enjoyed the pacy writing style tho felt it was bit over enthusiastic on the hyperbole, especially in first few chapters but improved quickly.
Its an Age-gap, slow burn, witty romance with little drama. Good developed side characters in friend Paige and Kristin the sister. Great banter between all characters and many lol moments. And the cute doggy and a stolen push up bra.
Overall I loved the dynamic between Ellie and Laura. So loved this book. Give it a try.
Ellie had it all if she was willing to be unhappy, live with cheating controlling ex. Laura was her new neighbor attractive, attentive, funny but younger. Which set off alarms for Ellie. The story that evolves is insightful, entertaining and funny. The first book I’ve read by Emma but I’ll be checking her page for more.
I loved this book. Ellie and Laura are great characters and their story is told with warmth and humor. Ellie’s dog, Isabel, is a lovable scene (and bra) stealer.
I found myself laughing out loud every so often when reading this lovely, cute and funny story. It was a true slow-burn but so hilarious that I hope to find the time to reread this book soon.
