I appreciated the slow-burn romance and the mature tone of Old Flame. It’s refreshing to read a story where emotional connection takes priority. The sci-fi elements add depth without overpowering the romance. This was recommended by Anveracloveth from the Ebanisim Readers Community, and it absolutely delivered

This story is a charming and heartfelt friends to lovers romance that beautifully blends paranormal fantasy with emotional depth. From the start, Kort Behrens is a compelling hero a billionaire bear shifter whose success in business contrasts sharply with his heartbreak in love. His past disappointments feel real and earned, making his guarded heart completely understandable.

Elizabeth Murphy is equally wonderful. Her quiet strength as a widow, her dedication to healing others through Reiki, and her tender bond with her cat, Puzzle, make her instantly lovable and relatable. Her grief is handled with sensitivity, showing that healing is not about forgetting, but about learning how to open your heart again.

Their reunion as former college friends is perfectly paced, allowing the romance to grow naturally from familiarity into something deeper and more meaningful. The chemistry between them is sweet, comforting, and emotionally satisfying, proving that love doesn’t have to be rushed to be powerful.

The setting of Gambler’s Folly adds a delightful layer of magic and unpredictability. The idea that Fate has her own plans keeps the tension alive and makes every step of their journey feel like a gamble worth taking. The paranormal elements blend seamlessly with the romance, enhancing the story without overpowering it.

This book is a touching reminder that it’s never too late for love, and that second chances can be the most rewarding of all. A cozy, magical, and uplifting read that absolutely deserves five stars.

I read this lovely book in Clara's private book club, and I’m so glad I did. Blood Anvil took me straight into the clash of Roman legions and Germanic tribes with a richness I wasn’t expecting. Leda, “the Bructeri Lioness,” immediately became my favorite her fierce loyalty and quiet strength gave the story a human heartbeat against the backdrop of war. At the same time, following Marcus Aurelius in his private reflections and impossible choices made me feel the weight of empire in a very personal way. It’s rare to find historical fiction that balances intimate family moments (like Leda’s bond with Ala and Almaric) with the sweep of battles and political intrigue. Williams nailed it.

I read this lovely book in Clara’s private book club, and I’m so glad I did. Old Flame has such a comforting yet adventurous vibe. The reunion between Kort Behrens and Liz Murphy felt tender, nostalgic, and at times surprisingly witty. Their banter reminded me of friendships you slip back into after decades apart. Emil, Kort’s loyal chauffeur, was another quiet favorite of mine his steadiness contrasted beautifully with Kort’s larger-than-life energy. The pacing is steady, giving room for both romance and intrigue. Mellie Miller knows how to layer warmth with suspense.

This was my September pick in Clara’s private book club, and what a ride it was. Kort, with his commanding presence, could have easily become a caricature of the billionaire hero, but instead he came across as deeply human lonely, funny, and just a little lost. Liz, cautious but brave, was the perfect counterbalance. Their conversations sparkled, and I especially loved how Damiano Leone and his wife Karianna added richness to the world on Gambler’s Folly. This story isn’t just about rekindled romance; it’s about finding safety, trust, and a second chance when you least expect it.

I absolutely adored Old Flame! Kort and Elizabeth’s story melted my heart. You can feel their history and chemistry from the first moment they see each other again. Mellie Miller did an amazing job blending real, mature love with the fantasy elements of Gambler’s Folly. Kort being a billionaire and a bear shifter? Yes, please! 🐻✨ It’s sensual, but also full of warmth and emotional depth.
