In a world where dragons dominate the skies and colossal worms tunnel through mountains, three nations teeter on the brink of war.
Like every Elucian, Kailin must brave the perilous pilgrimage to Mount Hope's summit, where an ancient shaman will decide her fate. A select few are destined to bond with dragons, and for most, it’s the ultimate prize. Not so for Kailin, who is hiding a paralyzing fear of heights and would rather sketch the magnificent beasts than ride them.
Alar appears to be a privileged Elurian seeking the glory and immortality of dragon riders. Yet beneath his aristocratic facade lies a secret agenda that could disrupt the delicate alliance between the reclusive Elucia and the cosmopolitan Elurian Federation.
When Kailin and Alar cross paths, sparks fly, and as they ascend the perilous mountain, hunted by shadowy assassins and tested by ancient rites, their unlikely bond deepens.
Defying a thousand years of tradition, an impossible selection puts the star-crossed lovers at the center of an ancient prophecy. But in a world where dragons have their own agendas and even the gods aren't what they seem, the greatest threat may yet come from within.
From the bestselling author of The Children of the Gods comes an epic fantasy romance series where destiny claims the reluctant, love defies duty, and ancient powers awaken.
Perfect for fans of the FourthWing, A Court of Thorns and Roses, and Crescent City.
I read this as an ARC & she has done it again. It is long but flows easily & keeps you captivated. She continues to show what an imaginative story teller she is. Incredible world building while also bringing incredibly realistic characters. I truly love her books & have thus far read everything she has written that I am aware of.
This book is a 5+ star read for me! Written by one of my favorite authors, I. T. Lucas, who also wrote children of the gods. This book has some things that connect with that series, and I really like that. This book follows Kailin who witnessed a Shedun attack on her village the night her brother starts his pilgrimage and her parents are out of town to see him off. She went to the watchtower and found the watcher dead. Knowing there was an attack in progress, she sounded the alarm. As the attack progresses Kailin makes good use of her rifle shooting them down. And then five dragons appear out of the sky and blow the enemy away with their fire. One dragon comes close enough to encounter her. no words were passed, but there was definite communication and a salute from the rider. Five years later, it is time for her along with her bestie Shovia to ascend the mountain, a pilgrimage where their future will be determined by an ancient Shawman in a secret ceremony on top of mount Hope. Kailin and Shovia decide to go to a bar the night before the festivities start and they meet Alar and Codric. These two are friends that will stay by the girls side through the adventures to come. This book is a fantastic read complete with dragons and riders, friendships that turn into unbreakable bonds, challenges, romance, and adventures that leave your heart thumping just a little harder than before. I am so anxious for the next book to come out so I can continue reading about my favorite characters and how their stories continue.
*3.5 stars I really had a lot of expectations when I started this book. So maybe my expectations were part of the problem… It immediately held my attention with Kailin & her interaction with some beasties. Unfortunately that was fleeting as there was a huge information drop that took about 25% of the book. The back story of the politics & history of both the MC’s was quite boring & honestly helped me go to sleep a few nights in a row. I almost gave up but I hung in there & I’m glad I did because it did get better. Not all of that info needed to be dropped immediately. My other issues were more personal preference I guess. I love dragons! I don’t love dragons, magic, shamans, guns, curling irons, tv’s & internet all in one book. Kinda like ending up in NYC when you’re in a completely different period of time. Iykyk. I digress.. The MMC, Alar, is off on a mission to save his country which is called Eluria. Not to be confused with Elucia which is where Kailin is from. In the beginning it was a bit difficult to keep track of which is which. Once their pilgrimage is underway, the story took off & I loved just about every step they took after that. Onyx was awesome! Ravel is very intriguing. Codric is charismatic. Shovia is a lot of fun. The shaman & his pet Moki are pretty cool characters. I can see this story going someplace great. I just hope I don’t have to relive such a long rather boring world building experience in book 2…
Bonds of Wings and Fury: The Two-Faced God by I.T. Lucas is the first book of her truly amazing new series. If you are a fan of The Fourth Wing series by Rebecca Yarros you will absolutely love this new series. This is a completely new twist in Mrs Lucas's world building. This series takes place on another planet. It is full of twist and turns. The characters are easy to love and will have you giving them your loyalty from the start. If you have read the last few books of her The Children of the Gods series you might even find some Easter eggs. But fear not you don't have to have read those books to love this new book. This book is longer than some of her other works but will completely have you wanting even more chapters before you reach the end. Thank God Mrs Lucas had the ability to publish multiple books in a year so we won't have to wait very long for the next book in the series. I for one will still be in the edge waiting for it.
For what this was, I think it was way too long without actually going g anywhere. I think I. T. Lucas is a fantastic world builder and it shows in this book. But I also think there was probably too much of the mundane details.
Then again, my review may not be entirely fair because I didn't read this book for its own sake, but because the last Children of the Gods book I read (#102 maybe) hinted at a crossover with this book. So far, I can deduce that Eluheed is a shaman from Elucia and t charges/treasure he's trying to find on Mt. Ararat has to do with dragon eggs. There's nothing in this book that is a direct connection to the other series. I'm A little disappointed.
Onyx, however, is the best part of this story. I won't comment further on him because I don't want to spoil anything.
This is a good story...good action and drama; some humor and romance. Just a bit too long for my taste with little resolution (IMO).
A well-plotted adventure that finds a group of people seeking their shaman in the hopes of becoming Dragon riders, to protect their lands. The main M/F characters are both harboring secrets, while trying to maintain their growing love for one another. This tale reads much like a great episode of Perfect Match. It would be an excellent program-exciting and full of romance to hook up potential love matches. It does continue, but it's not really a cliffhanger...just readies us for the next storyline. I enjoyed the read that was full of descriptions of the trials they are going through, the training, and the fates of the prophesied group of 5 that set out to save their world. Isabel Lucas has always written exciting, full-bodied stories, that I have been privileged to read for many years and I hope for many more!
Lucas has done it again! Drawn us into her spectacular worlds of imagination and writing the stories we fall in love with! I never want it to end! I love how this series ties into, "The Children of the gods" series! I've read them all and look forward to all new additions, and next up is book 104, can't wait....LOL! Always excited when I'm about to read what comes next! This new series, "Bonds of Wings and Fury", is absolutely brilliant and engrossing! All the adventure of new worlds, exciting people and stories, romance, danger, Dragons that can talk to their riders in mind, and their individual personalities, so great! And so much more to experience! Looking so forward to, "Hero of Elucia"! Keep up the GREAT WRITING! INCREDIBLE!!!
A wonderful start to a new series by I.T. Lucas. If you love dragon riders and characters that really grow on you, this book is a must. If you read the Children of the Gods series, you will recognize Eulheed's home planet in this book. This first book gives plenty of background of the planet and its characters and follows a group of cadets who attend the dragon riders school. Each has special talents and they must learn to work together to save the future of their world. It is so well written with a new world for us to discover and characters that you feel you know. I can't wait for more of this story to unfold.
The author has written other books. The story describes a Dragon Pact that took place in the past, followed by a Great Division resulting in three nations and three religions, with one nation aiming to eliminate another. In response, this nation ensures its citizens are constantly prepared for self-protection and national defense, aided by dragons in their conflicts. Upon reaching the age of twenty-one, individuals undertake a pilgrimage to demonstrate their abilities and learn their fate at its conclusion. There are a lot of mysteries to uncover and a prophecy is revealed. I cannot wait to find out what comes next.
At first, I anticipated another formulaic dragon rider narrative, but this story defied expectations and truly took flight. Though I was initially hesitant to start this book since the next one is months away,I found myself unable to resist diving into the book. After thoroughly enjoying "Children of the Gods," I had resolved to wait for the next installment to minimize the anticipation. However, my resolve crumbled quickly, and I devoured it. Now, I'm left eagerly awaiting the next chapter, like the old Mervyns commercial open, open, open! (Iykyk!)
The Bonds Of Wings and Fury: The Two-Faced God complements the Children of the Gods Saga, and fits perfectly in place when nestled between the 103rd and 104th parts, but can also be read separately.
Traveling with our five star characters up the treacherous mountain was a haggaring experience, but once they all reach the Citadel, things really took off. Like a dragon. It'll be hard NOT to believe in magic after all that's happened.
I'm looking forward to the following books in this series. I love the portaling crossover possibilities that will come in handy later on.
This book could have been the next book in the series Empyrean by Rebecca Yarros. Its writing style is just like that series. IT Lucus weaves a tale from Eluheed/Elias from her Dark Shamen series. Now I understand his Character much better and know what his "charges" are on the mountain/volcano. I really enjoyed how she integrated the God Elu and the possibility of portals to other worlds. Can't wait to see who the sixth and seventh are.
The story started off a little slow for me. It took a few days to really grab my attention, but I kept reading, because I love I.T. Lucas. I realized what charges Eluheed (Children of the God's series) had in his care before the 15th chapter, and I wanted to finish this story. I can't wait for the two series to converge! I also can't wait for the next book in this series. If you have read the 103 books in Lucas' Children of the God's, you need to read this one! You will not be disappointed!
The Two-Faced God, book 1 of the new series Bonds of Wings and Fury, by Isabell Lucas @itlucas_author - I believe that this series will follow the same style of serial as Children of the Gods does.
OMG!!! This first book was PHENOMENAL about Kailin & Alar! Just WOW!!! I am not sure how many books there will be about Kailin & Alar, though. Tropes: Fantasy, Male/Female, SLOW BURN, Dragons/Dragon Riders, Shamans, Prince/Commoner & A Cliffhanger!
I absolutely loved this new connection to the children of the gods! It was an exciting well written story and I can’t wait to read the next one! The characters were impressive, and the storyline was intense with excitement and just the right edge of danger and romance. I recommend this to anyone even if you haven’t read any of the other children of the god series, but for those who have, it’s an awesome connection to the storyline.
This story will take a little bit to get into, at least a couple of chapters but not because of the characters. That is only because of the history being explained and trying to keep them separated from what's what. Once you figure out the histories, then hang on! It is a wild ride of love, mystery, hidden secrets, and dragons. It is well worth the read, so enjoy!
I love I.T. Lucas' other series so was looking forward to reading this. It did not disappoint. It is a bit different from her other series as it has dragons and magic. I was swept away with this new adventure. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I love this writing. At my age (86) all the E words were a little confusing at first. The characters are fabulous, the descriptions are great, and the story line is intriguing. I can already imagine how this is going to tie in with Children of the Gods. I can’t wait to see the story unfold.
DNF at chapter 30🫤 First chapters were ok, then it just got repetitive and boring. I didn’t like that I had a physical description of the FMC/MMC only after 12 chapters, and even, I couldn’t picture them. Also I couldn’t stand the word Eluria/Elucia, I’d have preferred opposite names or totally different ones. Also I couldn’t picture the timeline, there are rifles and cars ? No magic? Idk
It will be difficult to wait almost 3 months until book 2 releases. This series will be one of the greats. Incredibly creative and interesting story plot, fascinating characters and the gifted writing that lovingly invites you into the world on page 1 and never lets go.
If i’m honest, I only started reading this as it had connections to the Children of the Gods series I have been enjoying.
That soon changed and I have been utterly immersed in Kailin and Alar’s story, and am now hooked on hearing more about Elucia, and i understand Eluheed’s mission on Earth too.
Ms. Lucas has done it again. I have read ALL the Children of the Gods books, and Perfect Match books and love a new series in another world (literally) and new characters but still connected to COTG. I could not put it down and cannot wait for the next book in this new series. Well done!!
Love the suspense and intrigue. It feels like the Dark Stranger trilogy, which made me fall in love all over again.
The only thing I didn't like is the phrase: he kissed the palm of her hand. It's way overused in the Children of the Gods series and gives me an ick. Otherwise, this book is perfect so far. Can't wait to read the rest.
I went into this not know what to expect but the reviews were very good so I decided to give it a try. WOW is all I can say. This book was so good. The world building and characters were fabulous. If you like dragons and dragon bonds, magic, romance and a wonderful cast of characters this book is for you. Five stars for keeping me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book.
I usually hold out reading a series because I hate waiting to read the rest but I can’t help myself when reading Lucas’ books. I love how Bonds of Wings and Fury eventually ties into the Children of the Gods series. Lucas is a phenomenal writer. I love the dragons aspect of this series. Can’t wait for the next book!
This was an amazing story! Having read the "Children of the Gods" series I think I'm seeing a connection and can't wait to see what happens next! I wait with great anticipation for your next books in both series! These are my absolute favorite reads! Your writing style is so engaging that I get totally immersed! Thank you!
I managed to get to 58% before DNF. The plot is a nice idea, but I found the dialogue to be robotic and repetitive, and the story moved so. slowly. Tried to push through to see if things started to pick up, but this one is too lengthy to continue reading once I’ve lost interest.
Wow, the wow is because I’ve read The Children of the Gods series and still reading it. My mind is telling me the shaman in the latest part of the series is one of these hiding shamans. And I believe his charges are the dragon eggs!! Wow! Ok back to the current read, I really like all the characters and plot. I’m looking forward to next issue!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I read an excerpt from this book a while ago, but wasn’t sure if I wanted to read it. I am so glad that I did. I shouldn’t have doubted this story when I have read over 100 books in her other series and love it.
This series is going to be just as good. I already love the characters and can’t wait to see what comes next for them.
I love it . The book stands on its own but it is interconnected to the series Children of the Gods. The world building was fantastic. If you liked Fourth Wing you will love this book.
