A really fascinating look at Fandom and Fandom culture in the 80s. it's fun to see what has and hasn't changed. And many of the articles were enjoyable on their own merits. I'll definitely be scrounging used book stores looking for Best of Trek 1-6.

This was, in a word, "Fascinating."

This is a collection of essays, articles, and letters from the Star Trek fanzine "Trek". This collection was culled from 1982 and 1983 - after The Wrath of Khan was released, and before much was known about The Search for Spock. Some of the articles I found amateurish, like "Answer Your Beeper, You Dreamer", but others were incredibly well thought out. One was a trimmed down psychology thesis! I found it interesting to see the state of Star Trek fandom in the early eighties. Some of the articles argue for the merits of The Motion Picture, and many of them speculate over where Paramount will go next with Star Trek III. It is a time capsule from an older era, but the spirit and belief that humanity can and will be better is alive in these pages. Worth a read for me, but I will only reread articles that I actually enjoyed.
