For eight years, peace has reigned over the Empire of the Sapphire Throne. From her home on a world she created for herself, Karalyn Holdfast grows ever more isolated and remote. She watches over the peace she forced upon the Empire and the Dominion, but more and more she retreats into the worlds of the Sextant, neglecting her family and her friends.
Beneath the peace and prosperity of the Empire, dark currents are forming – currents that will sweep away the security being taken for granted by the peoples of the Star Continent. For the Gunstians do not forgive, nor do they forget, and they have a new figure upon whom to concentrate all of their hatred – Cael Holdfast.
In heart of the Dominion, trouble is close to the surface, as Edgar faces the mortality of his wife Kyra Holdfast. Above all else, he longs for a way to allow Kyra to ascend into godhood, just as Karalyn did, to spare him the pain Kyra’s death will bring. To this end, Edgar covets the one object he believes is capable of accomplishing this miracle – the Sextant.
Between Karalyn’s retreat from reality, the vengeance of the Gunstians, and Edgar’s yearning to see his wife become immortal, the fate of the Empire hangs in the balance. And watching from the background, Aila’s immortal children stand ready to claim the Empire for themselves.
Karalyn’s enemies are circling – waiting for her to make the mistake that will change everything.

About Me
I love deserts, which is too bad as I live in Scotland, but the mountains, glens and lochs more than make up for it. My other love is Greek Tragedy, especially Euripides, and I also read history, science, fantasy, and pretty much anything about the Beatles…

This author continues to surprise me!! Another outstanding installment in the Magelands. We are still world building and character building and there are so many players at this point that I genuinely miss some of the side characters that are irrelevant at the moment. (Who knows when the author will pull someone back in with an incredible story!) This book sprinkles the Empire with the Dominion with Dragon Eyre and so much more once you add in the players to the locations. We have Sable's immortal daughter being reckless like her mother. We have Karalyn avoiding the world until she cannot anymore. We have Cairney waiting for the moment he can take over the world. We have Edward longing for Kyra to ascend to immortality. We have the Gunstians doing their best to rid the world of blasphemers. And all of these things that are so different all seem to be a chain reaction on how these worlds will move forward. The ending however is the biggest cliffhanger yet and I cannot wait for the next one! Highly recommended!!
Yearning for Evermore: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Magelands Dominion Book 11), my thirty-fourth read from prolific author Christopher Mitchell, 576-pages of epic fantasy (is this his longest book to date?). With more than 48 books published over 5 inter-conncted series it's no wonder that when I want to read epic fantasy I first look for Christopher Mitchell. I look forward to reading more from him, in fact Holder of Worlds (The Magelands Dominion Book 12) is already on my TBR list and it won't be published until January of next year so I'll have time to read The Making of Abigone (Masters and Makers Book 2) before it's published. “I received a complementary Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
I am no fan of this new generation and having heard a little about them from another reader's comments I was loathe to start this book as I already disliked a couple of characters from the last. Well... I still dislike them, but Christopher has done another amazing job with this storyline as I was expecting a much worse ending but it's not. I'm giving away nothing on this but it's a definite read and a really good storyline to boot.
I'm blown away by the imagination of this author! The story gets better and better as it continues and keeps the reader engaged throughout. This book tossed all of my emotions up in the air and kept me guessing at every turn. Waiting for the next installment will be hard but, as always, worth it. Very well done, indeed!
This book is absolutely brilliant, all be it somewhat disturbing. The ending literally made me feel sick, and yet I need more! Why did the Holdfasts ever think it was a good idea to have immortal children? Blinded by impatience, ambition and hatred, where will the story go from here? Christopher Mitchell you are a genius.
This was my least favorite of the whole series. I guess Im a sucker for happy endings, which thos was the opposite for sure. The new generation of Holdfasts are horrible but I guess that's what they get for wanting their children to be immortal.
Christopher Mitchell is an evil man. There is no two ways about it. What a fantastic book. I mean really where does he come up with this stuff. My only complaint is the book was far too short. If you haven’t read this series of books then you can’t be a true fantasy reader. Go and read this series and enjoy the writing of a truly evil man.
