When Julia takes a spring break trip to Florida, she's not expecting romance. But an encounter with Peter Pan and a coded message suggests otherwise. When she meets Colton, Peter Pan's actor, and receives a kiss in front of a castle, her world changes. But will a magical moment last when she returns to college and Colton stays in Florida? Straight On Till Morning is a whimsical romance about faith and fear colliding, hometown family and high adventure. It’s a clash of personalities. It’s a heartwarming tale of two young people’s faith in a God who can outdream them.
Hannah Shoop once lived a mere hike from castle ruins in Germany. She traveled to 20 countries in her 20s, wrote her first novel at the age of nine, met Peter Pan, and wishes she enjoyed lembas bread (but she'd rather eat a croissant alongside a cup of black coffee). Hannah now resides in Alabama, where she gushes over sunshine, explores literature with junior high students, and dreams of her next trip to Disney World. She is the author of the YA fantasy Camnoel Trilogy and the sweet contemporary Christian romance Straight on till Morning.
I adored this book! Straight on Till Morning is full of hope and magic. It’s the perfect summer (or anytime) read. I loved the Disney aspect, of course, but as fun and full of joy as this story was, there is also a depth of seriousness to it as well. This story is about more than a girl who falls for a boy in green. It’s about overcoming fear and doubt and trusting in God’s plan. I hope Hannah Shoop continues to write uplifting stories like this one.
OH. MY. GOODNESS. I AM SPEECHLESS! This was absolutely incredible and hands down one of my favorites books of all time! I don’t even know where to begin and I’m going to do my best to put together a review that makes sense. When Flynn Rider was mentioned within the first ten pages, I knew it was going to be a good book. I didn’t expect to be completely blown away by it. Julia was a wonderful character! I could relate to her so much and her fears and worries. Colton was a dream! He was everything you could ever want in a godly person and more. He is one of my favorite MMC I’ve ever read. I loved the way he honorably treated Julia in their relationship. It was so beautiful and special. I want more of that in contemporary Christian fiction. The faith content was outstanding and had me in tears! I tabbed so many parts in this book. I was cheering Colton and Julia on til the end and was in tears at the proposal! I cried multiple times in this book and I won’t be forgetting this book ever! 😭 I’m going to continue to rave about this book forever. I highly recommend especially to young women! If you haven’t read it, you need to! 6 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
ˋ°•*⁀➷Thoughts! I am SO sorry it took me FOREVER to write this! 😣 So, let’s dive in! First off, I just want to say *coughs* I WANT COLTON!! Like this man wouldn’t take Julia’s number because he wanted to have her dad’s number so he could ask him if Colton could date Julia! LIKE 😯😏🤩
It was kinda crazy they kissed on their second date which wasn’t even their second date. 🤭 I knew that Colton would be the one causeee I felt the spark! ❤️🔥 ALSO, THEY WROTE LETTERS TO EACH OTHER! I want that to be me!
Julia did annoy me a little bit when she had doubts with Colton. I just wanted to tell her that HE DOES LIKE YOU AND STOP WORRYING!!! I felt so bad for Colton when I read about his sister! Like here’s a hug! 🫂
Julia’s nickname for Colton is 🤭😏👌🏼. Her friend group is amazing, and I was so jealous cause you live with them and talk with them ALL the time! 🥹🥹🥹🥹 (@ Eve and Izzy Jane: thank y’all for being that kind of group to me! Love y’all!)
“The Lord is good, isn’t He,” I LOVED the Christian content and how the whole relationship and book was centered around Christ! Overall, I highly recommend it, and I super enjoyed this read!!
There's so much to love about this book! Most importantly to me, the protagonist loves Jesus and prays with authenticity throughout her daily life. I love the Scripture interwoven into the story, and the romance is centered around Jesus first. For example, she falls hardest for the MMC when he is pointing her to Jesus, and it's clear God was a part of their finding each other. Lots of Disney references, and the book is even more fun to read if you've seen Peter Pan recently.
This story's squeaky clean--absolutely nothing smutty to surprise you, and for that reason I can highly recommend it to younger girls (12+) as well. In fact, while it's good for anyone who enjoys YA, it's perfect for teens as it includes so many resonant feelings of that time in life.
I've been looking for YA I can wholeheartedly recommend, and this one I can suggest with zero reservations.
a FANTASTIC book! full of practical magic and full of God's love!! the friendships in this book felt so real, and I think that's part of what made this book so wonderful. 10/10 will be recommending to other people!!
This book was so sweet! The story delivered whimsy and joy in ways that really encouraged my heart. I loved how the author started with the fun, swoon-worthy story of a girl meeting Peter Pan at Disney World, and grounded it with a touch of reality. While reading, I found myself challenged by the ways Julia and Colton grew in not only their relationship but also their faith.
An endearing tale for readers who love Jesus, real-life magic, and a fun journey on the way to happily-ever-after.
I tried reading this when I saw that someone I knew gave it six stars, but I just could not.
The writing style was very simplistic, which is my biggest turn-off in books. Right away, Julia felt like a flat character, sweet, but without a lot of real depth. I couldn't get a good mental picture of her and her friends.
Mainly, though, I could not get over the fact that she meets a Disney performer for Peter Pan, learns he's a Christian, thinks he's really nice, kisses him under the fireworks a few hours later, agrees to go to Magic Kingdom with him the next day, and ends up in a relationship. Nope, nope, nope.
I don't care how sweet he is; that is not the way the world works. My stranger danger sirens were going off. Please, please, please, can we take insta-love out of books? As a mature high schooler, I could easily picture myself in Julia's shoes, and I knew that I would have been sprinting for the hills (internally) and politely rejecting the offer (externally) if a guy ever did something like that to me.
I was too repelled to continue after that. If you love this book, great, but I did not find it realistic at all, and this has really inspired me to go write my own contemporary Christian rom-com that I can relate to.
The sweet, wholesome love story that my Disney-fanatic heart needed! Hannah has done a phenomenal job crafting a heartwarming tale filled with faith, love, and a dash of pixie dust that’s sure to leave readers feeling uplifted and inspired to not only dream big but to chase after the One who created them. Fans of Robin Jones Gunn and Disney are sure to enjoy this story!
I loved it so much. Everything in it circled back to Jesus, which is something not many books do. It was so wholesome, and I’d read it many more times. I loved getting to read a fictional book that reminded me of the goodness of God in every chapter.
Such a sweet story. A perfect, satisfying ending but still sad this comforting tale came to an end. The way the Lord was woven into the characters lives was beautiful. The love of the Lord is in this book.
Also, a story with Jesus AND Disney.. UM YESS! <3
*This is the first physical book I’ve annotated, I just felt it was worth the effort.
Hannah, this was super duper cute and so God-honoring! I finished this on vacation and it was such a fun, light read! Fans of Peter Pan (and Jesus) will eat this up.
🫶 p.s. bonus points for the cover because it’s the absolute prettiest 😍
