From the dusty mountains of Afghanistan to the streets of Albuquerque, These Things We Do is a relentless thriller about loyalty, betrayal, and the price of seeking justice when the system has failed. Perfect for fans of Jack Carr and Mark Greaney.
Before becoming an author, Daniel Pelfrey followed many career paths over the years. He’s served in the United States Air Force and worked in government at the TSA as a supervisor at one of the busiest airports in the United States.
From there, he tried his hand at blackjack, as a dealer, Daniel thinks it’s too risky to make a living as a gambler.
Daniel next entertained the idea of becoming a teacher and returned to college. He graduated, but teaching ended not in the cards. A Bachelor of Science in History from Black Hills State University, in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota, is how Daniel completed his education. He’ll be the first to say it’s really just a license to B.S. in History.
Daniel has also spent several years in seasonal jobs in places ranging from Mount Rushmore in South Dakota to Mammoth Lakes, California, and finally Medora, North Dakota, where he currently lives.
Good plot to the story- ex-pararescue Nathan Calloway is informed that his best friend/partner in the military died in an "accidental drowning", he knows it's impossible. Nate is given information from Ryan's wife "in case" something happened to him.
Nate feels he let Ryan down, not hearing him out when he asked and ghosting him for months. Now, he's determined to find the truth of the "accident". It's a conspiracy deep in the military, involves their last deployment and ends up with him & his family in the crosshairs of those wanting to keep their secrets.
It was just ok for me because the story seemed disjointed from one section to another- like the next paragraph didn't flow continuously from the last. Felt like parts were missing even in the same chapter but Nate does get "the bad guys".
