Miracles saturate the sweet-scented Christmas season—a reminder we aren’t alone. Miracles & Ghosts Past: A Christmas Collection brings eight stories from past holidays. Rita buys train tickets for her and Morris’s 30th anniversary in the novelette, “The Christmas Train Mystery.” She’s convinced this trip will bring her and Morris closer—if he can find the time. A murder mystery excursion will change Rita’s life in more ways than one, but will she go with her workaholic husband or by herself? In the first short story, “Christmas Rescue,” Opal trusts the wrong man and loses her mother in the same year, leaving her feeling lost. On a mission to get candles for the dinner table, she makes an unexpected find. “Is There a Santa?” goes back to the 1920s, where a widower is desperate to hold on to his farm and children. He doesn’t want charity, just a bit of luck or a miracle. In the final stories, you’ll meet an eleven-year-old who’s home alone, a family living in the aftermath of war, a girl who gets some shocking news, a widow with a warning from beyond, and a woman trapped on an elevator with Santa. Hope underlies these stories; it endures even in the direst of circumstances. Whether help comes from a ghost, Santa, or an angel, miracles are just within reach.
D. L. Finn is an independent California local who encourages everyone to embrace their inner child. She was born and raised in the foggy Bay Area, but in 1990 she relocated with her husband, kids, dogs, and cats to Nevada City, in the Sierra foothills. She immersed herself in reading all types of books but especially loved romance, horror, and fantasy. She always treasured creating her own reality on paper. Finally, surrounded by towering pines, oaks, and cedars, her creativity was nurtured until it bloomed. Her creations include children’s books, adult fiction, and poetry. She continues on her adventure with an open invitation to all readers to join her. You can learn more about Ms. Finn at her website: www.dlfinnauthor.com , or email her at: d.l.finn.author@gmail.com
Having read the first Christmas collection by D.L. Finn, I knew that I was going to enjoy each of the stories in this follow on release.
Most of the stories begin with those in turmoil, or hard times, and even following a devastating civil war. The characters may be facing some of the worst times in their lives, but the author creates opportunities for them to either make changes that will improve their situations, or brings in some outside help to assist them on their way.
That help is often outside the normal realms of belief, but if you have an open mind and heart, it is easy to accept that there are many things outside of our own world at work in our lives. The element of paranormal is subtle and add to it the wonderful contribution that animals within the stories contribute, it is with hope the reader turns each page.
Hard to select my favourite stories but certainly ‘After a War Comes Christmas’ struck a chord, as not just a fictional enactment, but something being experienced by children and their families in real life.
There are some dangerous moments, evil intent but also some lovely romantic moments to enjoy. Such as in ‘Elevator Santa’…
This collection will certainly get you in the festive spirit and you will find difficult to put down once started. Very happy to recommend.
This collection of eight Christmas stories kept me entertained for an afternoon while jumping between appointments. Each story is unique, though all include a ghostly visit from a spirit who offers kind help, protection, or a wish come true. The protagonists are in rough spots, dealing with poverty, grief, or danger. In keeping with the Christmas “spirit,” the outcomes are heartwarming, full of hope, and sometimes topped off with a promise of romance in the year to come. A feel-good read, for sure.
It would be hard to pick favorites, but some stories stuck in my mind.
The Christmas Train Mystery – I liked everything about this one: the train setting, a woman standing up for herself, danger, good choices, and a last-minute rescue.
Is there a Santa? – A forlorn widower struggles to provide for his sons and receives a dreamtime message from his deceased wife. I loved the way Finn used the sense of smell in telling this story, and dads who love their children always tug at my heartstrings.
She’s Home Alone – One of the scarier stories in the collection. A child is alone during a snowstorm, and a prowler is outside, trying to get in. Thank goodness for the ghost that helps her through the ordeal.
A Gift to Katie – a wonderful rags-to-riches story. Katie was easy to root for, and I enjoyed the message that even in dire situations, and regardless of past choices, kindness is always an option.
The stories are all well-paced and wrap up with a bow. There are cute kids and pets, and all the characters, even those with secondary roles, are three-dimensional and relatable. A collection I highly recommend, especially to anyone looking for a fun and heartwarming holiday read.
A Delightful Collection of Christmas Short Stories
This group of eight short stories is easy to read, but nonetheless enjoyable. I devoured the book in one sitting, but readers could easily spread the stories out over several days or cozy evenings.
Each has a common theme—the protagonist in dire straits, a visit from an angel or ghost, and animals (mostly dogs, though one cat is included). All are set during the Christmas season, and with the message that miracles happen.
As with most collections, I had favorites, although it was hard to choose.
"The Christmas Train" had me rooting for the main character while wanting to give her self-serving husband a piece of my mind. I loved the setting (and idea) of a train ride where passengers help solve a mystery.
"Is There a Santa?" was set during the post-World War I era and showed the struggle of a widowed farmer raising his two young sons while facing poverty.
"After a War Comes Christmas" is a thought-provoking story that gives readers food for thought to not take for granted the freedoms we enjoy.
I highly recommend this book—guaranteed to put you into the Christmas spirit.
This anthology of short Christmas-season stories transports readers across the centuries to meet a variety of characters in crisis. From a broken relationship in 1986 to a stalled elevator in 1972, Finn has done her research to give her readers an enjoyable yet somewhat realistic read. I say somewhat because, as the title states, there is a touch of magic throughout all the stories.
Except that the characters are not flat and the plots have some meat, the stories remind me of Hallmark movies. Finn’s emphasis is less on a contrived romance typical of a Hallmark movie and more on how the character finds their way out of a sticky or impossible situation. But there is a hint of romance in each story, which makes it fun for those of us who love romance without erotica.
It’s a page-turner and an enjoyable, fast read for a lazy evening by the fireplace. This Christmas Collection would make a great Christmas present for a friend who loves reading positive fiction.
Like the author, I love Christmas. I saved this book of short stories for the Christmas season, and I'm so glad I did. The stories are all wonderful, reflect the real meaning of Christmas, and leave the reader with a feeling of hope in a rather confusing world. The stories are filled with very real people, adorable animals and well-meaning ghosts and angels looking out for everyone. Whether it's an exciting Murder Mystery on a train, a homeless dog about to give birth on a snowy Christmas Eve, a resourceful eleven-year-old, or a widower trying to give his motherless boys a nice Christmas on a tight budget in the 1920s, these stories will tug at your heart. Love is in the air as helpful ghosts, guardian angels and even Santa Claus spread their magic. A great Christmas read, or anytime of the year when you need a pick-me-up.
A balm for the soul, a reminder that even in our darkest winters, light still finds a way through. I was charmed by D.L. Finn's approach to Christmas. "Miracles an Ghosts Past" has a quiet magical quality. It's not only tinsel and twinkle lights, or nostalgia and cheer. Instead this volume, through its eight stories, goes deeper, into the raw, agonizing corners of the human heart where grief, betrayal, loneliness, and tenacious hope coexist. This isn't a cheesy Christmas collection; it's a genuinely real one in which miracles happen not in spite of but because of adversity. And, while the tones and locales differ from a 1920s farm to a 1980s California mansion, each story shares a common heartbeat: hope is never fully lost. It persists in the most unexpected places, such as the glitter of a guardian angel's wings, the chime of a defiant silver bell, or the compassion of a stranger sharing a train cabin.
The collection begins with its longest and most ambitious tale, "The Christmas Train Mystery," a tale that establishes the emotional tone of the book. Here we meet Rita, a woman whose life has been polished to perfection but devoid of joy. She was once a participant in her marriage, but now she's reduced to a decorative ornament, spending her days keeping up appearances for her ambitious, increasingly distant husband Morris. Finn's prose paints a portrait of a lady who has spent thirty years conforming to her husband's restricted expectations of her. Finn's writing shines in the details... And soon the drama shifts from personal sadness to something more intense: a reclaiming. and so the train journey becomes a symbol: departure and new beginning (you will have to read the story because its miracle bloom's through the protagonist's final choice). Finn's talent resides in her juxtapositions, humor next to pain, skepticism next to yearning, and in the way everyday situations transform into the exceptional. And the character's voice eloquently reflects this: it isn't about repairing every breach, but rather summoning the resolve to keep hope alive even when despair seems more appealing. The remaining tales add to this tapestry of quiet marvels and subtle hauntings. In "Is There a Santa?", a widower fights to keep his family afloat in the 1920s; "After a War Comes Christmas," a family rebuilds; and "Elevator Santa," where two strangers rediscover joy. Ghosts appear in numerous stories, not to fear, but to guide and console the living, reminding them that they are never truly alone. Good to know, for isn't around Christmas time that we doubt ourselves?
Finn's emotional style binds the stories together. Her characters, both flawed and relatable, confront minor tragedies that feel deeply real. This is why "Miracles & Ghosts Past" is more than just a Christmas collection. It's a reflection on resilience, on love, on the humble nature of miracles. These stories remind us that grace frequently emerges from wrecks, joy from ashes and that even the simplest acts, such as a woman boarding a train alone, can be miracles in themselves. Miracles that still surround us.
"Miracles & Ghosts Past" is a heartwarming 8-story collection celebrating the Christmas spirit by weaving together stories of people facing disappointment, loneliness and hardship, at a loss at the coldest time of year. Each tale also masterfully introduces the idea of miraculous helpers when assistance is needed most, kind spirits who do not frighten but guide, offering hope and making new miracles possible when all seems lost. We meet Rita, Opal and Faith, the rescue dog, Debbie and her mom, Katie and Sandy, to name just a few, and their guardian angels as if watching over them, granting them their wishes and gently nudging them the right and bright way.
The tone of the stories is gentle and cozy, not dark or heavy, as though inviting readers to see the supernatural as a comforting presence rather than something to fear. The characters and settings are of various backgrounds and times, the plot of each story is delightfully twisted and turned in unexpected ways, and the elements of suspense and mounting tension leading to the climactic moment in each story are well crafted.
What makes this collection especially moving is its focus on quiet but clear transformation and change. The angels ghostly spirits do not solve every problem outright; instead, they gently guide toward courage, compassion and reconnection. There are subtle interventions naturally arising from the nature or the history of the characters and the situations themselves, and which feel deeply human, reminding readers that help may often arrive in unexpected forms.
The writing gently balances mystery with the mundane, all conveyed with emotional sincerity, allowing each story to unfold elegantly and fluid. Leaving the reader with a lingering sense of warmth long after the final page, this book is perfect for the holiday season. Reading these stories encourages us to believe not just in Christmas miracles and divine intervention, but in the enduring power of kindness — whether it comes from the living or from loving spirits who refuse to let anyone face the season alone or in pain or scarcity.
Here are a few excerpts from some of the stories:
“Debbie got both her Christmas wishes: a puppy and a man for her mom. Thanks to her wishes being granted and an angel watching over her, it was the perfect Christmas.” (She’s Home Alone)
“I know who your father was. And if you don’t mind me saying so, he was a bit of a Scrooge and more worried about appearances than what’s important. Sounds like he figured it out in the end, though.” (A Gift to Katie)
A comforting and uplifting read for the winter holiday season, "Miracles & Ghosts Past" is for anyone who finds beauty in hope, faith and second chances. As Denise wonderfully concludes in her Author’s Note, “My wish for you is that you find your miracle not only during the holiday season but year-round. Always remember to embrace that inner child and let your unique light sparkle. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!”
D.L. Finn has put out another Christmas selection of short stories, sure to keep us engaged with a hint of mystery in her seasonal stories with messages about life, family, good deeds, hope, and the occasional ghost of the past visiting. All these stories are sure to touch on our heart strings, with some also bringing a tender tear to my eyes. Finn’s stories all encompass some kind of hardship or incident, enlightened with sparks of hope threaded through. There are eight stories in this, perfect-for-the-season-book, and I’ll share a few here that stood out for me:
In the first story, The Christmas Train Mystery, poor Rita gets a rude awakening about her marriage and makes some drastic decisions about carrying on with a loveless marriage. As she embarks on her long awaited mystery train tour, Rita learns a lot more about her cunning husband and his diabolical plan for her. But she also gets a heads up from her dead aunt, who turns out to be her guardian angel.
In Christmas Rescue, a heartwarming story about Opal preparing for Christmas Eve, Opal realizes she needs a last minute dash to the grocery story – in a snowstorm, but as the universe makes things happen for reasons, Opal discovers a stranded Chocolate Lab who needs rescuing.
She’s Home Alone, young Debbie is getting ready for Christmas as she awaits her mom to arrive home from work. There’s a terrible winter storm going on and someone may be lurking outside with ill intentions. Debbie’s mom taught her well how to deal with suspicious strangers, and when the police eventually show up, it’s like the miracle of Christmas takes place in Debbie’s home and life.
Another engaging story was Elevator Santa. Imagine meeting someone in the elevator that gets stuck. That’s Mindy’s story, as she was stuck in that elevator with Santa! But Mindy didn’t know it was really Santa, but wanted to believe it was as he helped keep her fear and anxiety at bay. Mindy couldn’t decide if he was a working Santa or quite possibly – really Santa. And that’s what makes this heartfelt story so magical. Santa reminded Mindy of all the goodness in her life, and the happiness that was coming for her. After Mindy is rescued and questions herself about whether or not what took place with Santa was real or not, she realizes angels come in various forms.
I thorughly enjoyed this book and savored every story. If you’re looking to read something seasonal that leaves you with a warm and heartfelt tingle, this book is for you.
Miracles and Ghosts past will put you in the mood for Christmas. This is a collection of eight short stories by the creative and talented D.L. Finn. A few notes about each:
In “The Christmas Train Mystery,” Rita and her husband are going on one of those murder mystery theater dates, and this one is held on a train. Except her husband can’t make it, so Rita goes by herself. Turns out there’s a real mystery afoot! And some romance. This story made me smile.
I loved Opal’s character in “Christmas Rescue.” She’s a bartender and smiles a lot, but inside she’s the Grinch and dreads Christmas. Her journey in this story warmed my heart.
“Is There a Santa?” is about sibling relationships and how older siblings can tease younger siblings about Santa not being real. Louis, the boys’ widowed father, is doing his best to provide the boys with a good Christmas when he doesn’t have two pennies to rub together. I bawled over this one. SUCH a good story!
I was so worried for eleven-year-old Debbie in “She’s Home Alone” because the police are after a bad guy, and Debbie is home alone. And it’s dark. And the phone doesn’t work. This is a nail-biting good read!
“After a War Comes Christmas” is ultimately about community and strength in numbers when the people involved care. A feel-good ending.
“A Gift to Katie” highlights a loving mother-daughter relationship and how money isn’t needed for love. There’s a wise ghost who imparts lots of wisdom and helps poor, confused Katie sort things out. This story is so touching and made me tear up.
“Christmas After Loss” tells the story of Shiela, a waitress with a lot on her shoulders. There’s danger lurking in this story, some tense moments! Fun read.
In “Elevator Santa,” Mindy gets stuck in an elevator with Santa. (Surely he’s just an employee dressed like the jolly, ol’ elf.) I loved the sweet ending, and I’m not just talking about the candy canes in the story, LOL!
Themes of widowhood, whom you trust (or can’t trust), difficulty making ends meet, retro/historical issues, and miracles perpetrated by angels and friendly ghosts infuse this collection. And lots of cuddly dogs (plus a cat named Cuddles!) add to the charm.
Last year I read Finn’s first Miracles & Ghosts Collection and loved it, so I was excited to read the second collection of Christmas Stories. I enjoyed all these stories that are about people in heartbreaking, desperate, lonely, dangerous, and hopeless situations who find hope and light in their Christmas Miracles, all with the intervention of a ghostly spirit or heavenly angel. These stories are beautifully written with well-drawn characters. They all have an atmospheric feel portraying the time period and the holiday season. I was overwhelmed with feelings of nostalgia to much simpler Christmas’s as a child, celebrating with my grandparents on their farms after the loss of my father. The smells of fresh cut evergreen trees, baking cookies, hanging silver tinsel, cutting out paper ornaments, and hanging candy canes brought tears to my eyes. Finn also has a knack for using pets to enhance the poignant and heartwarming elements to her tales.
My favorite story is "The Christmas Mystery Train." It has multi-layered themes—A woman who is taken for granted and underestimated takes control of her life. There is betrayal, deception, mystery, intrigue, and hope for a more fulfilled life.
"Is There a Santa?" Is poignant and heartbreaking but filled with the love of a father for his children, and the sacrifices he will make for their happiness. In rural 1920’s, there were unimaginable hardships for farmers.
"Christmas After Loss" An unexpected visitor to her cafe leads to the resolution of the painful mystery for her loss that has kept a widow from moving on and looking forward to her life.
These short stories will get you in the spirit of the Christmas Season. If you love heartwarming stories about selfless acts of kindness, hope, and compassion with a touch of magic, I highly recommend this Christmas Collection.
D.L. Finn’s wonderful storytelling isn’t new to me. Miracles & Ghosts Past is the second collection of Christmas stories with an ethereal flair. Eight stories of real-life dire circumstances grabbed my attention, and I had hoped for eight happy endings. Speaking of hope, this desire for a positive outcome, coupled with a strong belief in miracles is beautifully woven through each tale. But I also wondered if help would arrive. And in what form? After all, we’ve heard of angels, and the jolly old man with a white beard wearing a red suit, not to mention, friendly ghosts. By gifting us with this beautiful collection, D.L. Finn invites the reader “…to find your miracle not only during the holiday season but year-round.”
I immediately became immersed in each story – the characters, their perseverance, and the authentic settings. My heart ached through the challenging times and beat faster through the trepidation of not knowing what I would read at the end. Each story stirred emotions, but two favorites were “The Christmas Train Mystery” and “She’s Home Alone.”
Finn inserted the perfect quantity of suspense to keep me on the edge of my seat. In the first story about the Christmas train, Rita buys train tickets to surprise her husband for their 30th wedding anniversary. Only she is the one who will be surprised by the events to come. “She’s Home Alone” evoked memories of a movie I saw years ago, so the story’s suspense affected me in the same way. Brilliant writing! An eleven-year-old girl is home alone with her imagination that goes wild. Her fright will reach the hearts of all parents.
Do you acknowledge the presence of ghosts, angels, and Santa? If your answer is ‘no’ then you will discover newfound beliefs after turning the last page. Highly recommended for you who would welcome a little Christmas magic!
This is the second collection of Christmas themed short stories in this series. I enjoyed the first collection, and this book was equally entertaining.
While all the stories in this book are engrossing, I am focusing on my favourite three for purposes of this review.
The Christmas Train Mystery - this is an entertaining Agatha Christie styled near murder mystery. Rita books tickets for her husband, Morris, and her to go on a murder mystery train ride for their thirtieth wedding anniversary. As the story unfolds, the extent to which Morris has changed and become self-absorbed and selfish over the course of their marriage becomes evident and the ticket purchase triggers a series of events that change Rita's life. In true Finn style, the story ends on an uplifting and happy note.
She's Home Alone - a creepy short story about a young girl home alone during a snowstorm and a predator with bad intentions. I enjoyed the character of Debbie and appreciated her presence of mind and calmness in a scary situation. Having been the victim of a home invasion, I know just how scary such situations are. The intervention by the angel was uplifting and engaging.
Elevator Santa - this is another story I could relate to as I have also been trapped in an elevator and it is a most unpleasant experience. The paranormal element in this story was subtly included and I enjoyed it very much. Another delightful story that finished on a high note.
Finn's books always leave the reader with a feeling of contentment and the knowledge that there are lots of wonderful people out there who are the 'helpers'. I appreciate her positive messages about the spirit of humanity wrapped up in engaging stories. This collection is perfect for Christmas.
I loved the first collection of Miracles & Ghosts Past and grabbed this one as soon as it came available. And I enjoyed each story in Collection Two as much or more than the first one. There is an overarching theme throughout each story and, as the title suggests includes either ghosts or miracles, or sometimes both. The other theme each story carries is the threat of real danger. It's hard to pick an absolute favorite, but the "Christmas Train Mystery" really grabbed me. I loved this character. Rita finds herself married to a man she no longer recognizes after thirty years together. Surely an anniversary train trip will serve to rekindle their flame. Only he refuses to go. Then, the secrets she uncovers shatters her world and she boards the train alone. While danger threatens, guardian angels intervene and with the help of a kind stranger, she finds the strength to do what she knows she must. I cheered her on! "Christmas Rescue" is heartwarming. In "Is There A Santa?" a man struggling to raise two young boys alone and on the brink of losing everything he values finds hope. A message from beyond the grave is puzzling, but he soon understands. "She's Home Alone" is another gripping story as a child makes Christmas wishes. But danger lurks and a shining angel gives her life saving instructions. "After A War Comes" seems almost prophetic. The author didn't designate a time period for this story and in my mind, I saw it as futuristic. "Christmas After Loss" became very personal for me and I shed a tear or two. If you love diverse short stories with the theme of hope, kindness and goodness amidst darkness, this book is for you. I read it in two sittings.
Everyone loves Christmas—especially when it comes early. D. L. Finn delivers a holiday treat you can enjoy any time of year. This short story collection brims with supernatural intervention from angels, spirits, and even the Big Guy himself—Santa.
I truly enjoyed the diversity of time periods, allowing me to visit the 1960’s, 70’s and 80s. There’s even a tale set in 1920, a beautiful look at a faithful father raising two sons alone after his wife’s death. Despite the hardships he faces on his farm, he wants to deliver a treasured Christmas for his boys, one of whom has started to worry that Santa doesn’t exist.
My other favorite is “The Christmas Train Mystery.” Guests don 1940’s period dress then board a train where a murder mystery is staged. Problem is a real murder has already been plotted. This story, along with each one in the book (including a very rewarding and unusual dystopian tale) features wonderful characters who find themselves facing frightening situations. This is where the supernatural aspects come into play with visitations from angels and ghosts.
As with many of her stories, Finn also includes stray animals who enrich the lives of the humans who find them. If you want a dose of feel-good nostalgia and Christmas magic rolled into one, pick up this charming collection of stories, curl up in a favorite chair, and enjoy!
This is a delightful collection of Christmas shorts with a twist. In each story there’s a ghost to lend a helping hand. In THE CHRISTMAS TRAIN MYSTERY a woman’s first step to a new beginning is a murder/mystery dinner train trip. CHRISTMAS RESCUE~*~ If you read many D.L. Finn stories, you know that somewhere in the book you are going to encounter an animal rescue. This is the story😊 IS THERE A SANTA?~*~ To my mind, of all the wonderful stories, this is the best. The characters are extraordinarily developed and their emotions pour off the pages as a widower tries to hold his family together at Christmas. SHE’S HOME ALONE~*~ A young girl must outwit an intruder. AFTER A WAR COMES CHRISTMAS ~*~ This story centers on civil unrest and is timely considering the unease in America right now. A GIFT FOR KATIE~*~A woman in need gets an unexpected inheritance and is unsure whether she should accept it. CHRISTMAS AFTER LOSS~*~A mysterious soldier throws light on Sheila’s husband’s unexpected death. ELEVATOR SANTA~*~Mindy gets stuck on the elevator with an unexpected passenger. I highly recommend this book of shorts. It’s perfect for the Christmas season. So, grab your cocoa and cookies, put up your feet and enjoy the read.
Miracles & Ghosts Past is a riveting collection of short stories that promises to entertain as well as introduce you to some wonderful characters. I love how hope glows through all the stories despite the dark moments. Also, not all ghosts are scary is an amazing reality in these stories.
The book begins with my favorite story - ‘The Christmas Train Mystery,’ which was meant to be a fun ride, but ironically turns out to be just the opposite. If you are familiar with Finn’s style of springing sudden surprises, you’ll meet the Angels – both supernatural and real ones. Although it is a short story, her characters are clearly drawn and balanced.
‘Is there Santa?’ is a heart-warming story of a loving father who struggles to overcome the challenges of life and keeps the faith in Santa alive. Rose’s presence adds a dash of supernatural element to this story, too.
‘She’s Home Alone’ has been crafted with a lot of emotional depth. I like how Debbie handles the crisis and responds to the miraculous working of the phone. Most of Finn’s characters possess this intuitive ability, just like Rita, Sheila, and Katie. Elevator Santa sums up the philosophy of Finn’s stories – “Trust those who love you. Don't lie to them or yourself.” Highly recommended.
Usually I have favorites when I read short story collections, but that’s not the case with this one – I loved them equally. A woman choosing happiness and leaving behind her cheating husband, a recent widower struggling to provide for his children, a woman who finds she’s not alone at Christmas after all, a child home alone during a snow storm, a woman’s memorable encounter in a stuck elevator – they all captured my heart.
Along with the varying time periods from the 1920’s through the 90’s, I particularly enjoyed the spirits/angels who offer the characters guidance and protection while watching over them. As with most of Finn’s stories, family pets and stray animals who find their forever homes are included and enhance the overall feeling of peace and happiness these tales inspire.
If you’d like to be filled with Christmas magic, grab your beverage of choice, curl up in front of the fire, and dive into these stories filled with hope.
This excellent collection of heartwarming short stories added to my firm belief in miracles. D.L. Finn’s well-rounded characters drew me in, and the supernatural touches added an aura of wonder to each narrative. Each account is a complete story with a compelling character facing an insurmountable challenge or having to make a heart wrenching decision. Vivid settings and fully drawn descriptions bring the times and people to life, giving the reader reason to care and to hope for a good outcome. I recommend this beautifully written book to anyone who loves short, hope-filled, reads.
As soon as Halloween was over, my husband and I started watching holiday movies on the Hallmark Channel, so I was ready to read D.L. Finn’s new collection of holiday stories. I loved volume one, and I knew I would love the sequel. I wasn’t wrong. From the first page, I was captivated by the variety of characters, tense situations, and the plot twists and turns. Although each story differs, the presence of angels and ghosts that help change people’s lives weaves the stories into one complete whole. If you’re looking for an uplifting book that will put you in the holiday mood, Miracles & Ghosts Past fits the bill. I gladly rated it five stars.
This was such a wonderful collection of holiday short stories. This author never disappoints with her ability to weave heartbreak with holiday miracles. I read her first collection of holiday short stories and loved them, and this collection was just as great. I don't tend to enjoy historical fiction, but this author finds a way to make me love every story no matter which decade they take place in. From ghosts saving their loved ones from tragedy to heartfelt kindness of strangers, these stories tugged at my heart strings. If you enjoy holiday stories with a paranormal twist, you will love each of these! :-)
In this Christmas-themed collection, author D.L. Finn shares stories that elicit goosebumps, laughter, or soul sweetness. The variety kept me on my reading toes, wanting more. I enjoyed all the stories, even when they made me cringe with worry or left me with questions. Hope threads through each of the stories, surprising or offering the happy ending we all seek. I highly recommend Miracles And Ghosts Past, especially for the Christmas season.
