"Tan has long been one of the foremost voices in writing and publishing erotic sci-fi and fantasy. With her New Adult paranormal romance Magic University series, Tan combines her favorite elements from the Harry Potter books with LGBT characters and eroticism. Her protagonist Kyle Wadsworth, studying at the secret magical university Veritas, learns to harness sex magic to combat sirens and prophecies alike. With Kyle starting out knowing less than Jon Snow, he experiences the kind of in-depth sexual apprenticeship that Anastasia Steele should have learned at the hands of Christian Grey."—Tor.com

"Magic adds a level of spice to Kyle's journey. ... There are many very sensual scenes in the story, with a final scene that is a climax in a lot of interesting ways. The Magic University series looks like it's going to be a fun ride with lots of eroticism. The Siren and the Sword is a delicious start."
--Paranormal Romance Reviews

"Magic University has a good storyline, and the types of magic used are very innovative and set it apart from other books of this genre. Though at times the author alludes to what is going to possibly happen, she does a wonderful job of keeping the reader guessing right up until the end. ... Ms. Tan has done an outstanding job of feeding my Harry Potter obsession in a very adult fashion." -- Book Wenches

"Joining Kyle as he experienced many rites of passage, both ordinary and magical, was a delight. It was such a treat to escape to Veritas. The world of “magic users” is enticing and I look forward to spending more time at Veritas. Count me in for the whole series, it’s just that good." -- Manic Readers Reviews

"... the Magic University series is very well written and, although promoted as an erotica, it’s more erotic-light as this tale is considerably deeper than your average erotic novel." -- Bitten by Books

"Finding out what's going as it unfolds is one of the best reasons to get into this series. ... This story is about more than any one of Kyle's accomplishments. There's a bigger picture here, more tightly drawn and suspenseful than one book could contain. At the risk of saying what I fear is too little, I hope anyone who enjoys a great ongoing mystery imbued with fantasy, erotica, love and drama opts to read this and the rest of the books in the Magic University series.

Harry Potter but with sex? Of course I was all over it!

I was not disappointed. There’s sex magic out the wazoo. Or in the wazoo. Whatever cranks someone’s tractor, or is necessary for the spell. Hot hot hot. (There’s nothing like sex magic to make you forget it’s 2017.) Thought-provoking, gender inclusive, sex positive.

Also: Finally, an actual good reason for keeping one's virginity unpenetrated!

I want people to find this despite its flaws.

So much of these books are fan fiction or "shipping"...but that's what gives it its heart. I know(in the way Alex knows poetry) that the author wasn't ready to tell a cataclysmic story. Still, this is a fun representation of magic, a magical world and healthy(if a tad kink filled) sexuality. Fun. Sexy...and open.

Great series

Such vividly drawn characters, I fell in love with them all. The author’s knowledge of magic and tarot is expertly woven into an exciting story that concludes satisfyingly. I was sad to say goodbye to Kyle and Frost and Alex and all the other characters.

Diverting but not satisfying

What begins as an adventure of discovery and exploration peters out into a finale that abandons character development for juvenile tropes and banalities.

Wow!

Greatly enjoyed. Excellent writing, great presentation, wonderful story. Probably changed my view of the magical world. Not Harry Potter, for sure.

I was in the mood for a big chunk of mind candy, and this was it. Magical HP tinged Harvard erotic fan fiction with mentions of familiar places (I need to get over to LA Burdick's sometime soon). It had been too long since I'd read some short stories by Ms. Tan. I've been following her instagram for cute cats and delicious food. Nom.

Entertaining romp through Veritas, a magical version of Harvard. Functions like Potterverse erotica, with excellent worldbuilding for the magic and young/new adult relationship wrangling that makes total sense if one remembers being 18-22 (or is currently living it). Explicit and pansexual, with characters that truly care about one another and are trying to navigate feelings vs. ritual vs. life vs. saving their magical universe.
