Beating fear was once his greatest obstacle. Now he has another.
Bestselling author Daniel Wright is finally rebuilding his life—one public appearance at a time. But just as he begins his book tour, a chilling discovery stops him cold: a murdered couple found with a handwritten note, sealed and addressed to him.
As more couples turn up dead, Daniel is thrust into a twisted game he never agreed to play. The victims are real. The messages are personal. And the killer is watching. At his side is Nicole, the woman he’s finally allowed into his guarded world. But as the killer closes in, even she may not be safe from the darkness Daniel’s books have somehow awakened. Because this killer doesn’t just admire his work… they want to write the next chapter with him.
The deeper he digs, the closer the shadows creep. And this time, fiction might be the killer’s favorite weapon.
Rob Kaufman is a celebrated psychological thriller author, known for crafting emotionally intense stories that delve into the human psyche. With a degree in Psychology, he weaves his deep understanding of human behavior into gripping narratives filled with relatable characters and compelling twists.
Fascinated by what drives people toward darkness while seeking love and acceptance, Rob explores the fine line between good and evil. His novels aren’t just suspenseful—they unravel everyday events that spiral into extraordinary psychological dramas.
Readers become deeply invested in his characters, experiencing a range of emotions from laughter to heartbreak. His books have earned national and international acclaim for their unique, thought-provoking storylines and masterful plotting.
Beyond writing, Rob actively engages with readers, sharing insights into his creative process and the psychological depths of his characters. His commitment to authenticity and emotional resonance continues to captivate audiences, cementing his place as a compelling voice in psychological thrillers.
It’s hard to put into words when a book is meant to be felt. Silent Shadows appeals to all the senses in a way that Rob Kaufman does like no one else. The story works on two levels - you’re taken on a journey across the country and, at the same time, deep inside Daniel’s mind.
I’m an avid reader of domestic thrillers, mysteries, and police procedurals, but Rob’s books are in a category all their own. I don’t race through them to reach the end or to uncover the twist, the way I often do with other books. Don’t get me wrong, those kinds of reads are fun, but this one, like his others, engages every sense. I felt connected to Daniel; his anxiety became mine. “Of course there was a part of me, no matter how small, waiting for it to fall apart. Like the calm was borrowed, and any minute a new storm would return.” Silent Shadows is anything but silent - I could hear my own heart pounding as I read.
Rob’s words are haunting, painting every scene with a vividness that lingers. “The fog clung to me like damp gauze, curling through the streets, chilling my skin as if it meant to stay.” That imagery settles in your bones and refuses to let go.
“It might’ve been the wind chimes tinkling softly in some unseen corner, or the faint smell of old wood and rain-damp brick from the narrow alley running alongside it.” Reading that, I felt as if I were standing in that bookstore, tucked into a quiet corner, seeing and smelling everything for myself.
Rob’s books aren’t just stories, they’re experiences to be savored. His characters become your friends, your foes, and your companions on the journey. I can’t say enough about this talented author. You need to take the journey yourself. Start at the beginning if you haven’t already, you won’t be disappointed. His standalone novels are wonderful, but the Wright series has truly captured this book lover’s heart.
The first psychological thriller I read was Stephen King's Misery and since then it has become my favourite genre. This story was reminiscent of that book with an author, Daniel Wright as the main character and an over zealous mentally unstable fan, obsessed with the books Daniel writes. Fast paced, just as I like my thrillers, this is a dark and twisty page-turner. I received an advance copy of this book and am leaving this review voluntarily.4 and a half stars.
“Silent Shadows” by Rob Kaufman (book 2 in the Edge of Fear series) is a pulse-pounding ride from start to finish. The suspense builds with every chapter and me glued to the pages. A dark, addictive thriller that keeps you on the very edge of your seat.
From the opening line, Silent Shadows drops you straight into Daniel Wright’s fractured, trembling world — a place shaped by trauma, agoraphobia, and the lingering echo of being hunted. It’s rare for a thriller to feel this emotionally lived-in from its first page. Kaufman doesn’t write fear from the outside; he writes from inside the body, inside the breath, inside the tightening chest. That immediacy is intoxicating.
But what surprised me most isn’t the suspense — it’s the relationships that hold Daniel together even as danger begins to thaw back into his life.
The friendship that forms between Daniel and Alec is the book’s quiet soul. It grows slowly, out of vulnerability, trust, and a kind of masculine gentleness we don’t often see written with such nuance. Alec’s steady, grounded presence becomes the counterweight to Daniel’s spiraling anxiety, especially as he prepares for a national book-signing tour that threatens to push him beyond every boundary he’s rebuilt.
And woven through all of this is Nicole — loyal, patient, loving — but caught in a storm she doesn’t fully understand. Daniel’s anxieties lead him into mistakes, and one of them nearly puts her in the path of the very danger he’s trying to escape.
The emotional fallout of that choice is powerful, painful, and believable.
This is a thriller, yes — but it’s also a story about the fragile courage it takes to step outside, to attempt normalcy, to trust again. The shadows are not just outside Daniel’s home; they live in his head, in his memories, in the uncertainty of who might be watching him.
A tense, atmospheric, heart-wrenching novel that blends fear, friendship, love, and dread into something deeply human.

Silent Shadows by Rob Kaufman isn’t just a mystery—it’s a psychological chess match filled with sharp twists, emotional depth, and chilling suspense.
Daniel Wright is a compelling lead—flawed, haunted, and deeply human. When a series of brutal murders seem personally connected to him, the tension skyrockets. Kaufman masterfully peels back the layers of Daniel’s past, forcing readers to question what’s real, who to trust, and whether the sins we bury ever stay buried.
The pacing is relentless, the dialogue razor-sharp, and the emotional undercurrent is as strong as the suspense. Every chapter raises the stakes, building to a final act that is both shocking and satisfying.
If you love thrillers with psychological complexity and a touch of darkness, Silent Shadows is a must-read!
I'm a mighty fan of Kaufman: his books have built-in excellence. There's never a, 'will this be as good as the last one?'. It will always, indubitably, exceed expectation. I can say that very confidently after reading five of his books.
This is the second in the Edge of Fear trilogy. Poor Daniel Wright has enough trauma to deal with and a serial killer who is making it all rather personal just isn't helping him move forward. As usual, Kaufman keeps you guessing (had me foxed this time, well and truly), but, as always, the ride is compelling, thrilling (and chilling!) and utterly entertaining.
The icing on the cake with all Kaufman's books is his huge respect for his readers, to whom he dedicates more than just a few words in his acknowledgements. The respect is mutual, because this reader has a lot of time for any author who remembers his audience.
If Kaufman writes something, you can bet your bottom dollar, I'll read it.
Haunting, Heartfelt, and Impossible to Put Down Silent Shadows by Rob Kaufman is one of those psychological thrillers that quietly grabs hold of you—and doesn’t let go until long after the final page. From the very first chapter, Kaufman draws readers into a dark and emotional world filled with secrets, guilt, and the heavy price of silence. The story unfolds with a slow, deliberate tension that mirrors the unraveling of its characters’ minds. What I loved most is how Kaufman doesn’t rely on cheap twists—every revelation feels earned, raw, and deeply human. The writing is beautiful yet chilling, and the emotional depth behind the suspense makes this more than just a thriller—it’s a powerful look at trauma, love, and redemption. Each character feels vividly real, flawed, and heartbreakingly believable. You don’t just read about their struggles—you feel them. The pacing is perfect: slow enough to build unease, fast enough to keep you turning pages late into the night. If you’re a fan of authors like B.A. Paris or Lisa Jewell, Silent Shadows will absolutely hit the mark. It’s the kind of book that lingers with you, echoing in the quiet moments. 💬 A haunting psychological drama that reminds us: sometimes the loudest pain is hidden in silence. I received an ARC copy and this is my honest review.
Y’all! This book had me sleeping with the lights on and checking behind shower curtains like I was in a low-budget horror flick—and that was just Chapter Four.
Silent Shadow is book two in Rob Kaufman’s Edge of Fear series, and it doesn’t just raise the stakes—it rips them out of the ground. Bestselling author Daniel Wright is trying to rebuild his life, but when a murdered couple turns up with a note addressed to him, he’s thrust into a chilling game where the killer isn’t just inspired by his work—they want to write the next chapter together. Um, nope.
The tension is tight, the twists hit hard, and the blend of psychological dread and emotional depth is masterful. Nicole is a rock in Daniel’s unraveling world, and the killer? Creepy in a “don’t-look-out-your-window” kind of way.
Kaufman delivers another dark, twisty, unputdownable thriller that blurs the line between fiction and nightmare. Just don’t read it home alone. Or near a typewriter.
Received as a review copy from Booksirens, this is an honest review.
Another wildly entertaining read from author Rob Kaufman as Silent Shadows kept ratcheting up they tension the deeper you get into the story.
Author Daniel Wright is continuing the battle to take himself outside of his comfort zone and enduring the complexities that comes with a book tour both excites and terrifies Daniel- with the accompaniment of those he trusts; Daniel could finally have something of a normal life. As Daniel begins to enjoy being around fans that have made this author life possible, the Couple Killer comes storming back into Daniel's tour demanding Daniel live up to the twisted partnership they killer believes they both share. Or there will be consequences.
When the identity of such twisted murderer is revealed, it's a hauntingly scary as the man responsible whom deeply wrecked Daniel's life in False Faces.
Finished an ARC for Silent Shadows by Rob Kaufman, Author earlier and, even though I have started another book, I keep thinking about it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the second book in the Edge of Fear series. I enjoyed book 1 (gave it 5 stars), but I liked this one even more. I was kind of paranoid through the entire book, suspecting pretty much everyone at some point. The characters are great, several returning from Book 1, which is always nice. And the ending was truly jaw dropping. This one doesn't release until August 26th but I'm already getting excited for Book 3!
I'd recommend reading the Justin Wright books first, if you haven't already because I think you'll appreciate certain things more if you do.
If you aren't a fan of reading series, Rob also has 5 standalones which are all really great. I think all of his books are on KU. I recommend you check him out!
Another five star read by Rob Kaufman! Silent Shadows is the second book in the Edge of Fear series, which continues the story of Daniel Wright. As Daniel begins his journey from the restrictions of agoraphobia, he plans a book signing tour to reconnect with his fans. Once again, the Couples Killer becomes a central theme, creating tension and fear for Daniel. This story made me think, made me panic, made me smile and mostly made me want more!!! A shocking twist makes you want to go back and start again just to make it make sense. A definite read for everyone!
I will read anything Kaufman writes as he is one of my favorite authors! His novels are twisty, compelling, and even if you "know" the characters, you will NEVER be able to anticipate their moves! In this one, Daniel hires bodyguard Alec to accompany him on book tours as he's gotten veiled threats and someone is killing couples that are somehow related to his books. Terrified, he continues on as he feels he owes something to his many fans, but things escalate quickly! Read this series immediately but prepared to be shocked!
This was a very dark story about an author's fan. A fan that's a super fan, but they're mentally ill and use the books as a guide to murder!!! Who keeps following the author as if he's prey?? Will those close to him suffer, because of their connections to him? A gripping page turner that kept me on the edge of my seat in suspense and fear! The final confrontation will chill and shock you as much as it did me. What a reveal and bombshell is dropped at the end!!! I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest review.
Silent Shadows is book 2 in the Edge of Fear series. Daniel Wright is an agoraphobic author trying to overcome his fear of going out on a book tour. He's worked hard for it, and he wants to go. However, a serial killer wants him to write more, so they can use his writing for new ways to kill. They want to "team" up with Daniel. Daniel goes on tour, and the serial killer aka The Couple Killer, follows him from city to city, leaving behind death and chaos! 5 stars!
Silent Shadows is the second in this series. I've become a huge fan of this author. The suspense builds and builds and had me questioning every character in the book. Every character is human, flawed, and interesting both as part of the story and as a potential killer. Beautifully written, highly recommend. I can't wait for the next book in this series! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I had the privilege of being an ARC reader for Silent Shadows - OMG, this was edge of my seat reading! I caught my heart racing, my breath catching, and was completely emotionally invested. With so many legitimate suspects I did not pick the twist in this one!
Daniel is an interesting character as a best-selling author who has been through his fair share of trauma and tragedies.
I love the page-turning suspense in his world as he manages to overcome his agoraphobia and engages in an author tour, all the while navigating a stalker who is watching his every move. But he has a bodyguard and friend, Alec who accompanies him for protection. Then he meets Nicole who is someone he falls for.
I like the unexpected assailant at the end, the diversity of characters and the familiar ones who have been a part of the Justin Wright book series. Definitely worth reading the second book in this series.
