A key to the unknown. A door that should never open. A murder that defies the grave.
When funeral director Wren Grimm receives a mysterious silver key and a warning about doors that should never be opened, she knows trouble is headed straight for Honeyvale.
The key unlocks far more than she bargained for—namely, a body found under impossible circumstances and a killer with access to powers that shouldn’t exist. As Wren investigates, the danger closes in, and even her eccentric supernatural family at the Grimm Funeral Home may not be able to shield her from what’s lurking beyond the threshold.
Some keys don’t just open doors… they unleash deadly secrets—and someone in Honeyvale will do anything to keep them buried forever.
Perfect for fans of humorous paranormal cozies, Death’s Door blends small-town charm, supernatural sleuthing, and a cast of quirky, lovable characters you’ll want to visit again and again.
The second book in The Afterlife Files is even better than the first. Wren Grimm is the new funeral director in town, taking over for her Nana. But she discovers she's also the Guardian for supernatural doorways that keep away entities that shouldn't be in this world. When a historian is found dead at his desk, it's assumed to be a heart attack. But Wren's gift of feeling the last emotions before death tell her he was murdered. With the help of the supernaturals at the funeral home, Wren unlocks the town's history and looks for the murderer who may be very close to home.
I enjoyed this story, very much. The characters are interesting and the paranormal aspect always provides surprises. The plot is easily followed and the premise is finding out what exactly the town historian died of and why. I almost never know who the killer is and am fooled by the red herrings more often than not, but the reading is good fun and I definitely recommend this read.
Cute, short and sweet… despite being full of murder and mystery. But a bit rushed. A bit cliché in some ways. And I’d love a bit more depth and explanation for some things.
And while written to be read as a stand alone without needing to read the prior book, some things from book 1 seemed to have been forgotten or changed. And some continuity was noticeably lost.
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
