Not That Impressed: A Sweet Sports Romance Inspired By Jane Austen

Rate this book
I’m totally fine if America wants to cast me as the villain. So why do I care if brooding football player Will Pemberton believes it too?

But honestly? It stings more than it should when Will—grumpy football star and walking scowl—judges me based on a five-second video from Being the Bennets, my family’s reality TV show.

Maybe it’s because his best friend is dating my sister. We’re supposed to be polite strangers. Civil, at best.

Instead, we clash at every turn. I’m sunshine and social media. He’s silence and game film. I’ve built an empire from the spotlight. He avoids it at all costs.

We couldn’t be more different.

And yet…

He keeps showing up. With my favorite cookies. With help when I don’t ask for it. With patience I don’t deserve. He even puts his MVP goals on the line to help my family.

He’s supposed to be the enemy. But the longer we’re orbiting each other, the harder it is to deny there’s more beneath that scowl.

And when I find out the truth behind the gossip that made me hate him in the first place?

Let’s just say he’s not the only one who got things wrong.

Now I have to decide if I’m ready to take a chance on the man who’s been quietly falling for me all along.

Not That Impressed is a slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, opposites-attract romance inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. It’s full of football, family drama, and a grumpy football player who falls first and hard.

During her early years of reading, Ranee` S. Clark devoured fantasy books, which continued into her adulthood—since she often believes that a well-written romance novel is a delightful fantasy. Though raising three boys can sometimes hamper both romance with her own Mr. Charming and her writing, she tries to get a little of both in every day. And most of the time she succeeds.

4.5 rounded up to 5 stars. I did rate this in comparison to my experience with the first and second books. I gave The Comeback 4.5 stars as well and Tight Ends & True Crime 4 stars, for reference. While it is not imperative that you have read each book's respective Austen novel I highly recommend at least being familiar with the stories as I do feel my having read those novels was linked to my enjoyment of this series so far. These books read like retellings with plot and character parallels for sure. They are interconnected stand-alones but best read in order.

A P+P sports romance retelling with a reality TV family (the Bennets) at the center of it just made so much sense to me. I think the author absolutely captured the spirit of Lizzy Bennet. Ellie is a strong, self-assured, and smart FMC. And Will's character totally had Darcy's broodiness. The being quick-to-judge theme really worked for how famous both Ellie and Will are and obviously nailed the pride and the prejudice haha. And Jane & Bingley's parallels were spot on! I really enjoyed Will and Ellie's chemistry. Their animosity to more made sense and when they were falling into becoming a couple it was so cute. I think the main plot parallels were super clever. Will's last name Pemberton being an homage to Pemberley was such a good touch.

This was very close to being a confident five stars from me. Honestly, the only thing lacking in my opinion was more detail, for scene-setting in general regarding both atmosphere and surrounding characters. I felt like my mind had to fill in most of those things. For example, most of the side characters and settings are described physically in nothing more than generalities. This book could have benefitted from more fluff. Despite this, I just really liked Ellie and Will's POV's, they were super fleshed out. One thing that stood out to me was this one seemed to have the most sport (football) in the sports romance. I felt it was a good amount. Lastly, I really liked the ending. It was cute and tied the book up nicely.

I was sent a final copy by the author to read and review but these are my thoughts!

In this book:
-Pride & Prejudice retelling
-animosity to more
-sports romance
-dual-POV
-reality TV family fame
-NFL linebacker MMC
-Celebrity influencer FMC
-forced proximity
-protective/broody hero
-he falls first

Content Guide:
Romance - clean
Language - clean (but the word sexy is used a few times if that bothers you)
Violence - non-descriptive and off-page

Potential Content Warnings: (the author does a great job outlining these at the beginning of the book) - all regarding side characters
-off-page/past referenced SA
-off-page alluded to/attempted SA of a minor
-kidnapping
-emotional manipulation & implied grooming

••I give 4.5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

~We couldn’t be more different. And yet... He keeps showing up…

“Actions are what matter. You can say all you want that you’re one thing, but if your actions don’t match, the words won’t mean anything.”

-NOT THAT IMPRESSED, is a delightful slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, opposites-attract romance inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. It’s full of football, family drama, and a grumpy football player who falls first and hard. I thoroughly enjoyed the clever nods to Jane Austen’s classic tale, but l also found it refreshing that it wasn’t an exact retelling. I adored the tension, the chemistry, the flirty banter, the lingering looks, and the many swoony moments. But most of all, I loved watching dear characters start off on the wrong foot, but over time, be able to have changes of hearts/perspectives. It’s the relationship that grows is wonderful. This is a cute story with layered characters and is full of such heart, making it worth the read!💯

“I don’t know when my frustration with you turned into admiration. Or when your fierceness became my addiction. But I’m bewitched by you. And I’m completely in love. I don’t want you to think what I did was out of guilt or responsibility. It was because I’d do anything for you.”

•Content: sexual assault situation (off page, past and present); gaslighting; kidnapping, kisses only.

“It’s silly, but I want to know more about the man who stares down the world 24/7 with a glare that dares you to cross him.”

-I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

“Ellie intrigues me, she challenges me, and maybe it would blow up in my face, but I think giving it a shot could be really fun.”

Book Report: Not That Impressed (Houston Pumas Sports Romance Book 3)

At First Glance: This was fun because I didn’t even see the cover before diving in! Only knew the title and author!

The Gist: A slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, opposites-attract romance inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice.

My Thoughts: I have only read the 2nd and now 3rd book in the Houston Pumas series and I’m here to tell you they work perfect as a standalone! I have plans on picking up book one but when I was offered an early copy of Not That Impressed, I started it right away. My name is written all over this book…a wealthy family with a reality show… a bruting football player striving to be MVP but finds himself falling hard for the football teams owners daughter who is a strong female lead! My word, I loved her! The banter turned chemistry was *chefs kiss* It has a bit of adrenaline rush towards the end that makes the pages fly. I also have to share how refreshing this fictional reality family was. I loved how the sisters used their platforms, it felt truly inspiring. The advocacy for female athletes won my heart! Oh and how can I forget it’s a modern take on the beloved classic Pride and Prejudice which was fun piece throughout!

My Question For Raneé: In the scene where Nell brings tea and muffins for Ellie after her concussion, Ellie says she has a fabulous audiobook to listen to… I would love to know what Audiobook Ellie is listening to?

Thank you Raneé S. Clark for sharing an advanced ecopy!

Absolutely loved!!

Ranee Clark has become a new favorite author for me. I have read the Houston Pumas sports romance series, and have been absolutely enthralled! It is unbelievable how she mixes football and Jane Austen ...it is believable....authentic and so romantic! Her heroes and heroines are the best! This book was a Pride and Prejudice retelling with pro football and a reality tv show back drop. It had me hooked from the first page to the last. I recognized all the key characters from P&P, and thought the Wickham conflict was expertly done. There is some heavy drama in this one, and Will (Darcy) handled everything with bravery and tenderness toward Ellie (Elizabeth). I can't say enough about what a wonderful, swoon worthy hero Will was....happy sigh. I HIGHLY recommend this book!!

I have thoroughly enjoyed the books featuring the Houston Pumas and this book was such a fun addition to the series!

Ellie Bennett’s rich father owns the Houston Pumas. When one of their players, Charle, moves in down the street, her sister Janelle falls hard and fast. Too bad whenever they hang out with Charlie, he brings his not-so-friendly teammate, Will. Ellie and can’t stand him and he can’t stand her. But, not for long!

Ellie and Will might started off on the wrong foot, but their animosity toward one another led to some fun banter that led to some great chemistry! It was fun to see these two have a change of heart, especially since Will fell first! I loved how protective he was and how quickly he jumped in to help when their family had a crisis!

Favorite quotes:

“It’s silly, but I want to know more about the man who stares down the world 24/ 7 with a glare that dares you to cross him. And maybe I want to prod that bear some more.”

“Ellie intrigues me, she challenges me, and maybe it would blow up in my face, but I think giving it a shot could be really fun.”

“We’ve gone enemies to a couple faster than a Bachelor episode, and I don’t hate it. The way it feels when he grips my hand or kisses me on the temple or hugs me is more than soothing in this stressful situation—it makes me crave more.”

Not That Impressed (Houston Pumas #3) by Ranee S. Clark:

Another wonderful addition to Ranee S. Clark’s Houston Pumas series! The characters are instantly lovable, and the story kept me engaged from start to finish.

This installment follows Will and Ellie—her father owns the Houston Pumas—but their romance is definitely not love at first sight. The tension, humor, and heartfelt moments make for a well-written, enjoyable read. Highly recommended for fans of sweet, sports-themed romance!

Anytime I review a book that is inspired by Pride and Prejudice (or any Jane Austen book) as this one is, I feel it's important to confess that I have never read a Jane Austen book. So, when it comes to sharing any similarities or differences or fun nods to the original story...? Well, I'm completely clueless! What I do know is that I have loved this entire series, all Jane Austen inspired, just the same... and this one was certainly no exception! To say that Will and Ellie didn't get off to a great start would be an understatement. As a reality TV star and a professional football player, neither is a stranger to having rumors said about themselves... nor are they immune to falling for those rumors about each other either, getting things off to a tense start between them. But as the relationship between her sister and his best friend grows, they find themselves spending more time together and discovering who they are beyond those rumors. The chemistry between them was fantastic, and I personally can never resist a good he falls first story. Throw in a twist that took things on a more suspenseful turn than I was expecting, and I absolutely couldn't put this one down. This one is absolutely a must read.

Not That Impressed is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. It is the third book of the Houston Pumas Sports Romance series and while those who have read the previous books will enjoy seeing some familiar characters, I do believe that this could be enjoyed as a standalone as well. Please note that this story does deal with some sensitive topics that could be triggering for some readers. I definitely recommend reading the author's note to decide if it's a good choice for you.

There were so many nods to Pride and Prejudice and I don’t know how she did it, but it worked perfectly combining football and the modern world while still maintaining the core of Jane Austen’s timeless classic. And yes, we still dislike you Mr. Collins.

Will is a bit brusque and moody. Ellie is fierce but loving. Of course there is so much more underneath and I loved watching that unfold in a fresh way in this modern storyline.

“Ellie challenges me in a way people haven’t for a while.”

“Nobody calls me out like her. Forces me to think about things in ways I might not like. She’s getting under my skin.”

“Now I’m pretty sure he’s not a jerk. He’s protective. Of his cousin. Of Charlie. Of me even. It’s kind of irresistible. Plus, he goes after goals with a fierceness I can understand.”

Even with so many other characters and other storylines happening, the flow and progression were perfect.

Thank you to Raneé S. Clark for the copy. All opinions are my own.

This is the 3rd book in thr Houston Pumas Sports Romance book. It is a Pride and Prejudice inspired story and contains only kisses.

Full disclosure, I've read the others in this series and didn't realize they were retellings of Jane Austen books. Probably because whole I've watched/read some of them, I'm not a big fan and don't remember the plots!

I do know Pride and Prejudice only because I went to the movies and saw the 2005 version 4 times a few months ago for its anniversary. It isn't my favorite story. So that probably has affected my view of this book. If you love P&P, you may love this version. If I didn't know of the connection with P&P, I probably would have had a different view of this book, like I am sure I did of the previous ones that I didn't know were based on her books.

If you know and love the movie, you'll appreciate the references and be able to anticipate events. I did like seeing how the Lydia/Wickham story line played out.

I was given the opportunity to read an advanced digital copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The Brief: Ellie’s life is surrounded by cameras and the reality of her life unfolding on TV. Will plays for the Pumas. When they come together prejudices and pride fly as hot as flames.

The Debrief: I’m in love with this series by @raneesclark and watching these two get to know each other was sweet and hilarious. It follows the plot lines closely, but I loved all the little unique nods to the original while maintaining a fresh perspective:

🏈“I play football like a girl”
🏈Will’s quiet strength
🏈strong family relationships
🏈supporting teammates
🏈Charlie and Ellie’s sister
🏈flirty fun chemistry

Evert time I read a retelling I put in past characters from the movies. It’s just a thing my brain involuntarily does and I’m not sad about it. And let me just say…a beefed up Darcy who throws a football is all kinds of a “fresh perspective.” Swoony hero with all the protective vibes, folks.

The Rhyme: Will would love a second chance with Ellie, but every encounter seems like a hopeless quest. Can Ellie see past her prejudices of Will and find her heart more than impressed?

Kissing only. CW: there’s a Wickham

This book was a fun grumpy/sunshine romance! It’s a slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, opposites-attract romance inspired by Pride & Prejudice—with a modern twist full of football, family drama, and reality TV messiness. She’s Ellie Bennet, the “villain” in her family's reality TV show, and he’s Will Pemberton, the broody football star who doesn't like the spotlight. Oh, his best friend is her sister’s boyfriend. From the start, they’re total opposites—she’s sparkle and sass, he’s scowls and silence—and watching them clash (and then slowly fall for each other) was the best.

What I really liked is that the banter isn't just surface-level. The heroine is so much more than the label she’s stuck with, and Will turns out to be way more thoughtful and sweet than you’d expect from his grumpy athlete persona. He shows he cares in the little things—getting favorite cookies, helping when she needs it, standing up for her when it counts. Totally swoony!

If you’re into Austen-inspired banter, sports romance, and a grump/sunshine dynamic that makes you melt, you’re gonna want this one on your TBR. I received a complimentary copy. All opinions in this review are my own.

ARC Review : 3.5 stars ✰
spice level : closed-door romance

⋆˚࿔ this is the 3rd book of the series but works perfectly as a standalone, so new readers won’t miss out on what happened in the previous books.

this book was great and i did enjoy it but i felt there were some parts that were lacking. personally i think the story focused more on the love story of the sister, janelle and her partner, charlie, rather than on the main character, ellie. most of the time it talked about ellie’s journey alone. yes, her love story with will was a bit of a slow burn but i just wish that once they got together their romance could have been written a bit longer.

Thank you to Ranee S. Clark for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

“Not that Impressed” is so much more than a football romance. Will and Ellie may have the “friends to lovers” trope going on but this story is more than that. It’s about friendship, how we perceive others, how to learn who you truly are and it throws in some suspenseful action too!

This is the third book in the Houston Pumas series but it could absolutely be read as a stand alone.

“I check my phone to see if Ellie’s texted me and then spend ten minutes trying to come up with something to say to her and start the conversation again.

I give up and go back to watching film. Interpreting the Arizona offense is a lot easier than figuring out how to talk to Ellie Bennet.”

This is my favorite modern Pride and Prejudice adaptation! The names were close enough to know what character they would match up with in the original story, but not so similar that the characters could be their own. It stayed true to the heart of the story, while also allowing room for the characters in this version to have their own storyline.

I absolutely loved that Will Pemberton’s (Darcy’s) POV was included! It made the experience so much richer and made my Jane-Austen-loving heart so happy! He is not a cardboard person for most of the story. Judgmental, yes. Cardboard, no.

The Easter Eggs included throughout the story are absolutely fantastic! The author also did a fabulous job of slyly adding them into story in a way that a casual read would accept them fully as a part of the story, but those who know P&P well would bask in their wit and placement.

This version combined football, reality TV, and social media together, ending in a place of utter brilliance. This retelling is truly a masterpiece!

Read this book if you like:

🏈 Family First
🏈 MVP

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Ellie & Will’s points of view

-it is mentioned that a character(s) was sexually assaulted (past event + one alluded to current event; not described just mentioned/alluded to)

-it is mentioned/shown that a character participates in gaslighting, emotional manipulation, & implied grooming

-it is mentioned that a character is kidnapped

Review:

I loved this book! I enjoyed the rough start of Ellie & Will getting to know each other and their defensiveness when they both felt attacked, even when the other person didn’t go out to say something in that way. It made it all the more satisfying when their walls came down and they were able to better communicate their thoughts/feelings. I loved that Will was willing to be there for Ellie, even if it meant he’d be brought into the unwanted spotlight again. I also loved that Ellie was willing to be the ‘bad guy’ in order to help/protect her sisters on her family’s show.

Summary:

Ellie is used to being cast as the villain due to her role on Being the Bennets – the reality tv show featuring her family – but thought someone else cast in a role outside of their making would understand the difference between that and reality. But when Ellie comes across Will at a party, he dismisses her immediately due to seeing a clip of her tv persona. And each time they see each other afterwards due to her sister and his best friend dating each other, Ellie finds herself clashing with Will. That is, until she notices that the moody football player is making small motions to show that he’s trying to do better. Between small gestures and unexpected helpful moments, Will is looking more and more like someone Ellie would be willing to get to know…

Will thought the unwarranted scandal was behind him after everyone he met got a chance to rib him over it. But when he comes across Ellie at his friend’s party, she unexpectedly brings it back to people’s minds and it makes him beyond not thrilled. But first impressions could be wrong, if you’re willing to make an effort to fix things. Unfortunately, Will finds himself brooding and grumpy every time he sees Ellie following the party and can’t seem to make that hopeful good impression come. Maybe he needs to take things up a notch with showing Ellie that he can be attentive with the things that she cares about…

Review:
These two are just adorable together. At first, they don't see eye to eye but once they got to know each other they fell in love but he is the one who falls for her first. A grumpy and a sunshine are just so cute together. Love their bickering and also, they passion for helping people. Love that they care for each other’s family because some handsome liar is trying to spread lies about things that happened. (can’t spoil it but it involved her sister and his cousin sister). And both of them work together along with his team to find out to seek of her runaway teen sister who is underage with a grown man.

Love that he is willing to risk his MVP to help her and be there for her when she needs him though she pushes him away but he still sticks by her side knowing she needs someone be there for her. And love her sister, Janelle and his best friend, Charlie too they are just so sweet wish that Ranee will write their sweet love story. This story made me smile, laugh, swoon, and at times frustrated because of the person that lies (can’t spoil it).

This is the 3rd book of Houston Pumas Sports Romance series. Can’t wait for the next book.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!!!

Ellie Bennett doesn’t mind playing the villain on her family’s reality show until brooding football star Will Pemberton judges her based on a short, viral clip. The two of them start to clash at every turn and cannot seem to get along, even with their undeniable chemistry simmering beneath the surface.

But as Will begins showing up in quiet, unexpected ways, Ellie starts to see the man behind the scowl and realizes she may have been completely wrong about the guy who just might be falling for her as hard as she’s falling for him.

What you'll love:
enemies to lovers
dual pov
Pride & Prejudice inspired
football player MMC
witty and flirty banter
THE FIRST KISS!!
grumpy, protective hero
he falls first
the Bennet family
Charlie and Janelle
so much swoon and chemistry

AHHHH you guys!! This book is a mashup of two of my favorite things! Football romance + Pride & Prejudice = absolute perfection! I was hooked from the very first page and never wanted to leave this world!

I adored all the clever nods to Jane Austen’s classic but I also enjoyed that it wasn't an exact retelling. There were enough twists and modern touches (hello, pro football star and reality TV queen!) to make the story totally its own. And don't get me started on Ellie and Will!! The tension, the chemistry, the flirty banter, the lingering looks...be still my heart! And the way he falls first and falls hard? SWOONING! Where were my smelling salts when I needed them?

I binged this in one sitting (no regrets!!), and the moment I finished, I wanted to dive right back in. What can I say, I am in love! This author is quickly becoming a go-to for me when I need football romance that brings the feels and this book is the perfect example of why. Great storytelling, a swoony romance, endearing characters, and so much heart. What more could I ask for?

If you are a fan of enemies to lovers, modern Austen vibes, and heroes who fall hard, you do not want to miss this one, my friends!

I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.

Woohoo! We have another winner in the Houston Pumas series.

Will Pemberton is a beast on the field on defense for the Houston Pumas and off the field in his everyday life. He trusts no one, especially after a scandal (which was false) almost tanked his football career. His permanent grump face serves him well on the field, but not so much in real life. Most people prefer smiles over grunts.

Ellie Bennett fights fame in a different way. She is the daughter of the owner of the Houston Pumas, a popular social media influencer and the cherry on top is that her family is highlighted on a weekly basis on a reality show. She has no privacy at all, and even though she does a lot of good things, it is sometimes overshadowed with the public's suppositions about her character.

Will and Ellie are fire and ice. Their first meeting is a complete disaster, and both walk away with some scars and smoke coming out of both of their ears.

I love this entire series, and I especially loved this book. It teaches a valuable lesson about preconceived ideas and suppositions based on what other's have said and/or written. And that you should not believe everything you read on the internet.

This book got a little deep and emotional which made it even more pleasurable to read. Although Will came across as grumpy and completely unapproachable, I knew there was a lot more underneath the surface. Sometimes grumpiness and hatefulness disguise pain.

I must confess I have never read a Jane Austen novel in my life, so I cannot make any comparisons. But I can tell you this is a top notch book filled with strong characters that you will fall in love with.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌓
This was my first Ranée Clark book, and it certainly won’t be my last. I was so pleasantly surprised— absolutely loved it! I appreciate that we aren’t given the full picture in the book blurb because it makes discovering the story so much more exciting, and that’s exactly what this book delivered!

Ellie (27) is one of three sisters. Her family owns the Pumas football team and stars in their own reality TV show, Being the Bennets. They have been navigating their role in fame and influence for quite sometime and the weight is heavy. While it comes with its benefits it comes with steep consequences even if they seem to have it all figured out.

Will is a defensive player for the Pumas and the front-runner for MVP—no surprise, considering his impressive record and impressive physique. He has the moody, man of view words or wrong words thing locked down.

When Ellie’s sister Janelle starts dating Will’s best friend, Charlie, Ellie and Will are forced to spend time together—and their first encounter does not go well. Despite their best efforts to stay civil, it just isn’t in their vocabulary when they’re around each other. 🔥

I don’t think I’ve ever read a romance with a reality TV angle before, and it was so interesting to see how the characters balanced their fame both on and off camera. The sweet family bonds and the strong teammate relationships were total goals. The tension and angst were perfectly executed—and the added suspense? Chef’s kiss. 😘 Clean Read

I am always a fan of retellings, and this one did not disappoint! I loved Will and Ellie’s relationship, and I was also really happy to see so many cameos.
I thought Ellie was such an interesting character! Making her a reality tv star was not something I would expect from a P&P retelling, but it made a lot of sense for the story and Ellie’s character. Ellie had to constantly be on for the cameras, and sometimes that meant her family wasn’t always shown in the best light. It was a fun way to incorporate some of the Bennett family craziness while also showing a family that really loved and supported one another. I loved Ellie’s spunk and her willingness to stand up for herself. It was sweet to watch Will come in and support her without overshadowing her.
It took me a little longer to warm up to Will. I would have loved to see more of his struggles with the bad press that he was getting because I think it would have made him more sympathetic. Sometimes, I had trouble empathizing with his character yet at the same time, I understood that he was never trying to be hurtful. He saw things a certain way, and he needed Ellie to shake him out of his stupor.
I loved the side characters in this one! The little references to P&P were so much fun with a Mr. Collins, Lydia, and Wickham type characters. I really appreciated getting to see Wickham get the justice that he deserved. This is a semimajor plot line in the book where Wickham is seen as a predator and is rightly punished for it.
I would totally recommend this story! I couldn’t put it down, and the characters are super compelling. It is part of a series and can be read standalone. However, there are cameos from other books in the series.

All the love for this book and really the whole series!

Ranee S. Clark worked her magic to transform the much loved Pride and Prejudice into a swoony modern day enemies-to-lovers football romance. From the Bennets’ reality TV series to the Pumas teammates to all the nods to Pride and Prejudice, Not That Impressed had me smiling and hooked from page 1. I adored everything about this book.

Ellie and Will were perfect modern day versions of Lizzie and Darcy. I loved how Clark tweaked the story but also left so much of the heart of the story intact. Both Ellie and Will have beautiful characters arcs—it was so fun to delve into their thoughts a bit more than you do in the original. Ellie’s internal dialogue on her attraction and determined dislike of Will were so good. I also loved seeing Will’s thoughts and feelings of his inadequacies and his determination to win Ellie over. It was so well done and really brought the story to life for me.

The supporting characters were wonderful. I adored Ellie’s sister, Janelle, and Will’s best friend, Charlie. I loved how Clark changed up the dynamics with Ellie’s parents.

Will and Ellie’s relationship was my favorite part of the story. I adored how their relationship developed and grew. I loved how their relationship was playful but also based on so much respect and open communication. Clark really did an amazing job getting below the surface of these beloved characters.

I adored this book. It is the third book in the Houston Pumas Sport Romance series. Each book in the series is a modern take on a Jane Austen classic. You don’t need to read them in order, but you should definitely read them. I loved each book.

This is the third in the Houston Pumas Spots Romance Series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. I read this at the perfect time, as football preseason has begun. 🏈 Can you believe that?

I had so much fun reading this. I loved the blend of reality TV filming, football, and slow-burn romance. The Houston Pumas football team owners' family has their own reality TV show, which includes their three daughters. It was interesting to see how much of their life and time was caught on camera.(including dating). Ellie and her sister Janelle are incredibly close and when Janelle starts dating Charlie, one of the Pumas players, Ellie is forced to spend time with his best friend Will. Let’s just say they do not hit it off at their first meeting, or the second, or the third. But they definitely have some strong feelings going on.

The story has a sweet family love mixed in with fun banter between teammates and that great grumpy / sunshine chemistry. There is some suspense along with tense issues that cause conflict. It was handled with compassion, and it also depicted how easily people can lie and misconstrue things about someone’s character.

Mark your calendars for this sweet and swoony Pride and Prejudice retelling with a sports twist!

Not That Impressed by Raneé S. Clark is the third book in her Houston Pumas series but could be read as a standalone. I absolutely loved this book. This book was a Jane Austen Pride & Prejudice retelling. I feel embarrassed to admit I have not read anything by Jane Austen yet, but if Not That Impressed is anything like it then I know I will love it. This book is told from a dual POV, following Ellie Bennet and Will Pemberton. Ellie is known as the villain in her family's reality TV show, Being The Bennets. It normally doesn't bother her until her sister, Janelle starts dating Charlie, one of the Puma players, and Charlie's best friend & fellow Puma, Will judges her based on what he sees and hears about her on TV. Being the daughters of the Pumas owner the Bennet sisters are used to being around football and the players all the time. The banter between Ellie and Will was absolutely perfection. I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait for more from Raneé.

“Ellie is the one who blasted that other fitness influencer on the show. Famous on her dad’s dime and doing anything for clicks.” The last words are out of my mouth before I realize that Charlie has finally done something about the volume of the music. Ellie Bennet spins to face me, green eyes zeroed in on me and full of fire that I think could set a blaze to my hair. “Wow,” she snaps. “You’d think a guy who spent the better part of last year trying to put down rumors that he slept with the coach’s wife would know the difference between truth and what’s just for clicks.”

It’s silly, but I want to know more about the man who stares down the world 24/7 with a glare that dares you to cross him. And maybe I want to prod that bear some more. Now that I have an inkling there’s more to him than the jerk who was judging me and Janelle, it sounds like fun.

Ellie challenges me in a way people haven’t for a while. Yeah, my coaches and my teammates demand a lot from me on the field. Nobody calls me out like her. Forces me to think about things in ways I might not like. She’s getting under my skin. I’m not as annoyed about that as I should be.

Ellie intrigues me, she challenges me, and maybe it would blow up in my face, but I think giving it a shot could be really fun.

“I don’t know when my frustration with you turned into admiration. Or when your fierceness became my addiction. But I’m bewitched by you, Ellie. And I’m completely in love. I don’t want you to think what I did was out of guilt or responsibility. It was because I’d do anything for you.” The tender way he spoke has my insides melting. “I know the moment I fell in love with you,” I whisper. “When you dropped everything for me and wouldn’t let me talk you out of it. Stubborn man.”

I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.

Well. This was fun. By the time I got around to reading this book, I'd forgotten anything I knew about it. And I can be a little bit slow… So it was fun and funny when I finally realized this is a Pride and Prejudice retelling. I had a lot of “oh-duh” moments, as I found all the Easter eggs. Some realizations coming very late in the game, such as being over one-third into the story when—oh-duh—Will’s best friend's name is Charlie. I don’t want to admit how far along I was before I realized how the FMC’s name, Ellie, fit. 🙄 I’m not typically drawn to modern retellings of classics. I suppose because I like new-and-fresh. Well, just when I thought I knew what was going to happen in this book, I didn't. I loved the twists added to our beloved favorite. I especially loved the heightened suspense and getting to enjoy Ellie and Will spending time together for a good portion of the book.

Will Pemberton is a famous and infamous member of the Houston Pumas football team. Ellie Bennet is a reality show villain-star and social media influencer. At a party hosted by Charlie, Will and Ellie clash in mere moments, thanks to the help of Charlie’s sister Kara. The setting of the story is really clever and interesting. It’s just true enough to Pride and Prejudice to warm your heart, and original enough to be a whole lot of fun to read.

This is my first read by Ranee, and I definitely have to read more. Especially all the previous books in this Houston Pumas Sports Romance Series.

So fun!!!

Pride and Prejudice with a football twist? Sign me up!! Not That Impressed is such a fun book that takes the classic feel of one of Jane Austen’s finest, and pairs it with the talented writing of Ranee S Clark for a fresh, new take on what it means to rise above first impressions and find what truly matters.

Ellie and Will are dynamite. Truthfully, I almost felt like my book was going to burst into flames from all of the animosity between them. Ellie is a reality TV star that has cameras trying to film every aspect of her life. Will is a successful football player for the Pumas that is trying to avoid every camera he can. Their not-so-meet-cute sets the tone for the book beautifully and I found myself binge reading because I couldn’t wait to see how everything would play out. Let me just tell you – the dance scene is *chef’s kiss* amazing-giving me all of the cozy fuzzy feels of sweet tension and slow burn. Definitely going to re-visit that scene again and again!

I love the cameos of other Puma players and all of the other secondary characters (especially that IT tech guy towards the end…) that made this story complete. I have loved the other books in this series and can’t wait to see what is next!

First impressions, about 1/3 of the way into the story, I thought the title was fitting, Not that Impressed. At the beginning of the book, the author forwards the story as a Pride and Prejudice adaptation. I don’t know if that was a help or hindrance with my struggling to get into the story or the characters. The Bennetts are a well to do family that have a reality TV show about them. Ellie’s father also owns a professional football team. The main male character, Will is a football player. The story definitely follows the outline of Pride and Prejudice just with a modern day twist. Once I really got into the story and connected with the characters I really did enjoy it. It was fun. It was sweet and had some great lessons learned experiences, as in, don’t believe everything you hear, trusting your instincts, don’t judge before you know the facts… it was also fun and entertaining. It is a clean romance and no foul language. It is part of a series that can be read as a standalone. I have given both of the other books 5 stars. I am giving this one 4.5 stars, just because I had a hard time in the beginning. I am rounding it up to 5 stars.

Ranee S. Clark has done it again… she has taken Jane Austen thrown in some football and created something beautiful!  I don’t know how she does it but something about it just works!  This time Jane Austen’s most notable of works is meeting the Houston Pumas head on, I’m absolutely in love with this story, even when it was just an idea being thrown out into a poll!

Ellie is a 27-year-old, influencer who has had her life put on display for the past 14 years and is ready to let it go.  Having been typecasted in her family’s reality TV show, hasn’t been ideal and yet it allows her to be herself when cameras aren’t rolling.  An awkward double-edged sword, if you ask me.  Yet people will say what they want regardless of fame or status, and this is where our story really gets going when a simple BBQ invite turns into extreme tension.

Will is a 30-year-old who plays for the Houston Pumas and is actively working hard to get a bid for MVP this season!  Unlike the spotlight that Ellie has been thrust into he likes to maintain a low profile, so when he speaks boldly and out of turn shortly after meeting her, well let’s just say he became target number 1!  As much as he can’t stand her, something sparks in him that draws her, moth to the flame even after she initially rejects him!  Will is determined to get things right!

This adaptation had me smiling from the word go and I still can’t stop!  The adjustments necessary to modernize Pride and Prejudice work well.  While not well versed in social media as much as these characters, it’s doesn’t take away from the basic storyline we know and love!  Maybe there is something to make a hulking football player a softie or making the Bennets seem more ‘normal’!  At any rate, this is by far my favorite of Ranee’s adaptations so far!  I loved the subtle name drops of past characters who don’t play for the Pumas and gives us opportunities to see some of the others in a different light!  I also appreciate the delicate nature in which “the crisis” of the story was portrayed.  It was handled better than I could’ve imagined!  Bravo!  What story is next?!

What a fun P&P retelling! I liked that Ellie called out Will for judging her, when he should have known better, and as she continued to point out things, he actually considered what she was saying. I also really liked the author's modern version of the misunderstandings/lies with Grayson and Will, and where it all led with Libby. It was great seeing Will's teammates come together and help, and Will's sacrifice for Ellie was really sweet. I'm not a reality tv fan, but I liked how all of that was shown, how the family navigated things with the filming and everything. I didn't really get how Ellie was hated by people, so I thought there could have been better examples of that (with Ellie explaining the reality of what happened to the reader), but otherwise, I thought the characters were developed well. There were some sweet moments, exciting moments, and emotional ones, too.

Content: references to sexual assault (not graphic), references to grooming (not graphic), mild innuendo.

I received this book free from the publisher/author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
