Such a great end to this series! I've enjoyed every book and every pairing in this series and I'm torn between who my favourite couple is - it's either Cash and Declan, or Sawyer and Ash!
I always love to see good Ace representation in an MM pairing because I don't see it often enough! So many times books with Ace representation become MM+ because it's almost as though people think you can't have a romance story if there's no sex, so there obviously needs to be a third person in the mix to meet those needs - I hate that!!! I'm all for polyamory but don't force an Ace rep character into that dynamic just so there's sex scenes along with representation 😂 I loved that Declan is grey Ace and the explanation for the way he views sex and his desire for it was perfect. I also loved how he said that just because he's Ace doesn't mean he doesn't like sex, or people can't talk about it around him! Asexuality does not equal being a prude or mean that you don't want intimacy in your relationship, and a lot of people don't seem to understand that you can be sex positive but also Asexual, just as you can be sex averse and Asexual! Very refreshing to see this approach!
I empathised with Declan's fears, self-esteem issues and the way he shuts himself off from people because he thinks he can't meet a partners needs due to shitty experiences with ex partners. I'm Ace, and the negative experiences that Declan has been through really resonated with me because I've been there too, and it is so awful when the person who's supposed to care about you tries to emotionally rip you apart because sex is not your focal point or the main draw of wanting to pursue a relationship with someone. I loved the way it was shown that you can be on the Ace spectrum and still have a successful and healthy sexual relationship with the person you love - it's different for everyone in the same way allo people have different sex drives and different interpretations of what sex means to a relationship.
Cash is a really fun character and it was so enjoyable getting to know him better because we've only ever seen his fuckboy persona previously. Although he's been presented as the king of the one night stand, it's always been painfully obvious that he's hung up on Declan and wants more from him. Seeing Cash and Declan getting to know each other better and develop their relationship on such a strong foundation of trust and respect was just everything. The way Cash checks in with Declan and ensures he's not overstepping boundaries honestly made me jealous! Cash is such a considerate and loving partner to Declan and they balance each other out perfectly. The way Declan takes care of Cash and supports him with the difficulties he's experiencing was adorable, and the way Cash boosts Declan's confidence and encourages his dreams was brilliant.
I also loved that there were no loose ends left regarding the friend group and relationships - Poppy's relationship especially really appealed to me and honestly I'm probably closer to the way she identifies than anything else, so I was really happy for her character.
There are also some really fun tie-in's to Granville with a few cameo appearances, and the set up for the new Foster Bro Code series that will be set in the neighbouring town to Granville definitely got my attention and I'm looking forward to meeting a bunch more characters!

I received an ARC of this book from Neon Rainbow, and this is my honest review
Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below. I didn’t fool myself. Cash hadn’t magically changed my sexuality. I would always be some flavor of ace. But he’d given me the space to enjoy our intimacy when it happened.
There were things about this book I really enjoyed and a couple things I didn’t like as much. I was happy to learn that there’s more to Cash than it seems, and I definitely looked at him differently by the end, but — and a huge but — the fact that he used to parade his hookups in Declan’s face on purpose is such an ugly thing to do to someone you supposedly have feelings for, not to mention borderline harassment. I don’t understand that at all.
It was angstier than I expected. I actually really enjoyed that, and it was a slow process for Declan to trust Cash. I loved everything that had to do with Declan’s sexuality. It was done so well, and I adored how supportive Cash was — truly making sure Declan never had to do something he wasn’t comfortable with.
Another thing that really stuck out to me in a bad way was how the book makes a point of including the small-town gossip thing, making the town’s worst gossip Cash’s neighbor, and you’re telling me he’s been keeping a massive family secret from the entire town and his closest friends? I don’t buy it, lol.
This book is also guilty of making a huge-ass production of the MCs’ age gap, but not once specifying how old Declan is or how many years difference there is. It drives me absolutely fucking insane.
Again. Lots of good things but a couple things I couldn’t ignore or let go of for a higher rating.

“I’m sorry.” I reached for his arm. “Can I, uh, give you a hug?” He smiled dryly. “I’m fine.” “I’m not.”
“You…” His breath caught and his hand went to his crotch, hovering uncertainly. “You actually want me to?” “I want to see you feel good,” I murmured in his ear. “Touch yourself for me?” “Fuck.” He sucked in a sharp breath. “Okay. Damn. Anything you want.” “Then open your pants.”
3.5 Gray ace? Hm, sounds like that answers one or the other question for me and that alone would be good for a 4 star rating despite the abundance of puns and silly names. Of course it follows the rules of a romance novel, so Cash is extremely understandable and most of the time the main issue is one of conception (self and other) and not being the right guy. To deflect from the limited lust issue the author adds in Cash's case family issues (helpful) and in Declan's case friendship deception (unnecessary), so the question if it will be a HEA in the long run won't really arise. Does it matter when those two are such a good match and their small town community roots for them? It's a romance and there love conquers all and aren't we here to see exactly that?
I liked this but I didn’t love it. It was a bit boring. This series started off strong with the first two book but these last two have been missing whatever it was those first two had. I think it was chemistry, I never felt one iota of chemistry between Declan and Cash.
The book deals a lot with Cash’s family issues and Declan has a ridiculous side plot with a past friend. That was not surprising and felt pretty weak. The “I love you’s” felt too fast. I didn’t like these two as a couple.
I think that Declan’s sexuality, being gray asexual, was written really well. I liked how Cash understood Declan’s needs and they both respected each other. I think Declan just was too boring for Cash overall, and not in a sexual way. Sexually they actually had more chemistry. Declan just seemed like a boring man who never fully came out of his shell. Cash is vibrant and I didn’t feel a spark between them. Declan was fine. Fine as in he lives a quiet life but that was it for me. I know Cash brought more to Declan’s life but it didn’t build slowly enough for me to truly see Declan fall for Cash. It was more like he knew Cash was attracted to him and then he gave into that attraction and they were together.
Overall this series ended nicely. I really love Hudson and Fisher from book one and I love Brooks and Skylar from book 2 but these next two couples just didn’t hold my attention.

So happy to finally see Cash get his grumpy bear of a man!
This pairing had been building up quite a bit through the series, and I was curious about how things would work out between them. Cash had been pining for Declan for quite a while, trying to get his attention in all kinds of ways - and not always good ones... I was a bit relieved to see that there was a lot more to Cash than what it seemed like at first, and even if I think he made some terrible and hurtful choices, he somewhat had his reasons for his behaviour and actions.
I enjoyed seeing Declan and Cash getting to know each other, spending time together while renovating the bed and breakfast. Just having some honest conversations worked great for them and they were able to hash out some misunderstandings and assumptions. It was fun to see them being friendly and playful with each other, and it was a struggle for even a grump like Declan to be in a bad mood around Cash.
I absolutely loved the grey-ace representation and the way Declan's sexuality was portrayed here! Declan's experiences and feelings were easy to relate to for me, and it was a treat to see the trust slowly building between them. Cash was being very mindful and respectful of Declan's boundaries, and I loved to see Declan being able to relax and fully enjoy being intimate with Cash.
Resting Beach Face was a nice finish to the Swallow Cove series, and I will miss this little group of friends! I enjoyed Cash and Declan's story, the grumpy / sunshine was great and the slow relationship progress worked perfectly for these two.
- I received an advanced copy of this book, and these are my honest thoughts and opinions.
Cute and a nice addition to the series. But I am not sure I got their connection. Even though sex is not the important thing in their relationship, I feel like I needed a bit more intimacy before they actually got together. I do like cameos from previous couples and secondary characters but sometimes all I want in these books is to see more of the MCs together, doing normal everyday things. We get some here, but not enough IMO.
This is my honest and voluntary review for the ARC I received.
Can I just say that I have loved every single title in the Swallow Cove series?! I’ve been waiting to see what transpires between Cash and Declan and Jamison certainly delivered in this story. I love a good grumpy/sunshine pairing! Cash is usually the flirty and flippant one in the group of friends in this series, but Jamison gives us a more vulnerable and sincere side to him in this story. There are more layers to Cash than meets the eye. His home life is less than ideal and he deals with it in a way that works for him.
Cash has had a crush on Declan for a couple of years. He thinks that showcasing his many lovers will get Declan to feel something towards him, (even if it’s to only get under his skin), but all it does is make Declan doubt whether or not he can give Cash want he wants/needs. (I really appreciated the gray ace rep in this story, btw). Cash is a really affectionate person and Declan is a bit more reserved.
The journey from a one-sided frostiness to friends to lovers to boyfriends progresses in a relatable and natural way in this book. I really adore the open communication and honesty between Cash and Declan in this story. Despite Declan’s initial reservations, Cash’s persistence pays off in the end for the MCs. The pair develop a really strong connection. It was lovely to see a mutual respect and trust bloom between Declan and Cash.
It was great seeing other characters from the series in this book too. I definitely laughed out loud at some moments and wanted to give out hugs during others. This is definitely a captivating read from start to finish. Cash and Declan’s journey to love is super sweet. You will absolutely cheer Cash and Declan on as they navigate their way to a wonderfully cute HEA!
This is an opposites attract to more romance, featuring Cash snd Declan, and is a book four in the Swallow Cove series.
Declan is this reserved, gray ace grump who’s always kept his distance — until Cash, the flirty, chaotic pan guy with a reputation, starts breaking down his walls with his persistent sunshine. As their unexpected connection deepens, Declan must decide if he can trust the town heartbreaker with his heart.
This was a super sweet book. I loved seeing Cash and Declan finally be together. These two have been flirting through books one, two and three. A little bit of miscommunication and misunderstanding kept this push and pull going, but Declan finally broke down his walls enough to talk to Cash and for both of them to truely see each other.
The new series looks so good, can’t wait for it.
Things to expect in this book are: Book 4 in series MM romance Grumpy x Sunshine Opposites attract B&B owner Hurt / Comfort Dealing with alcoholic parent Flirting Push / Pull Pining Grey ace & Pan reps Bit of miscommunication Dates Bit of spice Found family Cameos from prev books HEA
I know, as an ace person, I have a very big bias in favor of any book with good ace characters. So, of course, I squealed of joy when Declan turned out to be in the ace spectrum. I love getting representation, especially when it is good representation. Even more so when the good representation comes with a good story with nice depths and a loveable love interest. If you want a good story, this is your book. If you want a good story with good asexual characters, this is also your book.
This was such a sweet read! I was so excited to see Cash get his happiness.
Personally, I didn't love Declan? The vibe I got was that Cash gave a lot more than he got emotionally, but that's just my perspective. The story is sweet and I appreciate how they love each other in the best way for the other person.
A beautiful gray ace representation. Cash has had a thing for Declan, the grumpy B&B owner, for as long as he can remember, yet his normal ways to flirt do not seem to work. So Cash does what Cash does best, the life of the party avoiding his crumbling home life as much as possible. When Dec finally starts to see the real cash, it allows Cash to settle and be his best self. Because Dec is gray ace, he has had past relationship issues and tends to project those issues on Cash without meaning to. When these two allow themselves to open up, they show a truly open and honest relationship that meets both their needs without either feeling they are missing something. Expect the usual Swallows Cove shenanigans but with a more serious undertone throughout. The maturity of this relationship is a breath of fresh air for the genre, where sometimes you can not help but feel that the asexuality spectrum is "cured" when meeting their person. This is not the case, and it was a beautiful thing to read.
I've read this author before and some of this series. This is book 4 and the main charaters are Cash a bi guy with lots of issues and Declan a relucent owner of a B & B in Swallow cove. This is a slow burn romance, with some great named places and shops. Cash is happy and a sunny personality, were as Declan is grumpy. Cash has pined for Declan for year and it all works out in the end. Loved this book!! Sad to see Swallow Cove go with lots of updates of side characters.
This book, I had no connection with, as I did with the other three. For one, it was too long and some of the chapters left you hanging. When you thought it would pick up in the next chapter, you were somewhere else. To be honest, I skipped through some of the chapters because they were boring. Nothing really happens till you're through three-quarters of the way through. Cash and Declan spent too much time bantering throughout the book and too much inner mind thinking. After reading the first three or four chapters, I became bored with it and couldn't wait till I finished the book. This book was like someone else took the outline and wrote it.
DNF @ 33% - Declan keeps going on about Cash having sex with people and everyone else keeps speculating/talking about Declan’s sexuality and I just cannot.
Resting Beach Face by DJ Jamison is the 4th book in her Swallow Cove series. It is the story of a man who is infatuated by another and does whatever he can to get his attention but when he finds out what the other really needs he is able to give that to him wholeheartedly. Cash Hicks lives in the quirky town of Swallow Cove in the Lake of the Ozarks. His home situation is not good as his father suffered a severe injury that turned him into an abusive alcoholic. The only reason he stays is to be there for his 15 year old sister, Katelyn, as his mother works all hours to provide for them. He is currently working as a receptionist/clerk at the Swallow’s Nest Resort where he often hooks up with guests and others just to stay away from home. He has quite the playboy reputation but he is really interested in just one person and often does his hijinks in front of him just to get his attention. Declan Sullivan owns The Treehouse B & B that he inherited from his aunt. He was a financial analyst from Chicago but had many fond memories of the B & B growing up and wanted to honor his aunt. But he hates peopling and dealing with others so he’s not surprised that his ratings on social media often include that he is a grumpy manager. He considers Cash a minor nuisance and always rejects his advances but Cash doesn’t give up. One night he finds him sleeping on the couch in his lobby area and Cash tells him he will leave once he knows his father has passed out at home so he takes him to his room to sleep on his couch. At breakfast the next day he offers him a room at the B & B whenever he wants of needs it. Cash realizes that he hasn’t been true to himself with sleeping around and decides to be celibate and would only be with someone he really wanted to be with. And he only sparked with one person – Declan. Declan receives a call from an old friend, Nathan, who he worked with in Chicago who suggests he sell the B & B since he knows he doesn’t like working there and come back and work for him. Declan says he’ll think about it but really doesn’t want to give up his aunt’s dream. Meanwhile when meeting with the friends who had adopted him at The Rusty Hook he has a kiss with Cash that led him to feel a flicker of attraction and connection which was unusual for him because he had figured out he was ace. He told Cash that kissing and intimacy was not easy for him and was afraid that he would get bored with him. But Cash also feels the attraction and is willing to do whatever Cash wants on his schedule. He tells him about selling the B&B to a group that would probably tear it down but Cash convinces him to fix it up and sell it to someone who wants to keep it as it is to honor his aunt. Cash will help him with the remodeling in his free time along with another friend, Gray. People always underestimated him and saw him only as a party boy but not who he really was. Cash sees Declan and likes him and thinks he likes him back. They share some tacos and cuddling and Cash realizes Declan craves closeness and connection. This leads to some love scenes, always based on Declan’s wants and needs and they grow closer until they finally declare their love for each other. Meanwhile there is a break in at The Roost at the B & B where damage is done and they can’t figure out why someone would do that until another theft occurs and they catch the perpetrator which leads to finding out the reason why all of this was happening. In the end Declan gets what he needs to stay in Swallow Cove and Cash gets a job with him so they can face the future together. I really enjoyed this book. There is a lot of angst with Cash’s home life and Declan not really wanting to keep the B & B but they are able to figure out a way past these things. It is quite a slow burn as the two of them get to know each other and why they act the way they do, yet the spark of attraction is always there and only grows. Cash’s family is in disarray but throughout the story things finally come together for them as his Mom realizes what she has to do to keep them with her. There is also what was thought to be a friendship that really wasn’t that comes to light in a series of events that bring some a-ha moments to Declan. And their friendship group is strong and always there for them. I also liked how characters from previous stories play a big part in this one as they help Cash and Declan get their happy ending. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like stories about two men who seem to be opposites but once they see who they really are, come together to form a lasting relationship with a little suspense along the way.

Oh, this was so darn cute! And a wonderful way to end the series (I haven't read them all, but yay, more for me to go back to!)
I loved exploring Cash and Declan's lives. Cash who has been crushing hard on Declan for so long, Declan clueless to it, thinking he was just an f-buoy (see what I did there haha).
What I liked the most though, was the way the author explored the ace spectrum. With as much as I read, I have never really had many where the whole spectrum is observed. I liked that the the character didn't all of a sudden go from being ace to being labelled as gay/bi. He was who he was, and there was no changing that!
I loved the people of Swallow Cove. The friendships that have grown throughout the series, the found family whose bonds are thicker than blood.
If you've read the first three books in the Swallow Cove series, you know Cash as the unrepentant, carefree flirt that no one takes seriously. You've seen him flit from one-night-stand to one-night-stand, all while flirting shamelessly with the quiet and reserved B&B owner, Declan. But, Resting Beach Face peels back the layers to reveal the man behind the playful smirks - the man who has spent years using charm and casual hookups to both hide and escape a painful home life. This book isn't just another opposites attract romance, though - this is the emotional culmination of Cash's journey, and the revelation that Cash is man capable of deep, unwavering love.
Cash's transformation is beautiful. He isn't just patient with Declan's boundaries, he honors them in a way that feels natural, never forced. Cash doesn't push or expect more from Declan than he can give. Instead, he shows Declan through quiet moments of patience and unwavering respect that love can exist on their terms. His love isn't about changing Declan; it's about showing him that he's already enough. Cash doesn't just say he respects Declan's boundaries - he shows it in every action, every touch (or lack thereof), every moment of quiet understanding.
Declan slowly begins to trust what Cash shows him, and watching him slowly allow himself to believe that love can be safe and fulfilling on his own terms is powerful. Their dynamic isn't about compromise - it's about compatibility, proving that love isn't just one-size-fits-all.
Cash and Declan's relationship is the heart of the book, but what truly makes this story shine is the way it acknowledges that love isn't just about romance - it's about showing up when things get hard. Cash's family struggles with his alcoholic, abusive father and his enabling mother add heartbreaking depth to his character. And his fierce protectiveness over his sister shows exactly how much Cash cares. When Declan offers Cash and his sister a safe place to land, it's clear that these two are becoming partners in the truest sense.
If you enjoy books with heart, humor, emotional depth, and grumpy/sunshine done right, this is a must read. This is a love story that proves that healing doesn't come from grand gestures - it comes from being truly seen.

This was so cute and sweet! I really enjoyed reading this, and despite just jumping into this series I could follow along just fine.
Cash is an unrepentant constant flirt, who sets his eyes on Declan who runs the B&B in Swallow Cove, and who unbeknownst to Cash is graysexual. It was very interesting to read about Cash and Declan's journey to their happily ever after. I loved how they navigated their relationship and the fact the they had open and honest communication. Cash really had to work hard to convince Declan to give their relationship a chance, but I loved how perseverant he was and how patient he was, but also how openly he shared his feelings with Declan. Declan could always be sure of Cash's feelings. Declan was resistant because he was afraid of not being able to give Cash what he wanted phisically in a relationship, but thankfully Cash made him realize that he was in it no matter what. It was beautiful to watch their relationship blossom, and to watch Declan open up and let himself have a relationship. Declan was lonely and he was starved for companionship and cuddles, and Cash gave his affection so freely, that Declan was afraid that Cash wouldn't be happy and satisfied with him. But Cash is more than he seems, and proved Declan wrong. Their love wasn't loud, but it was so strong. I felt like their communication was the best foundation for their relationship. I loved that Cash researched what it meant to be graysexual and actually understood and honered Declan's needs.
There were a bunch of funny moments and it was fun seeing the other couples from the series. The friend group seems like such a fun one, and now I have to go back and read the other books in this series. I also really enjoyed all the puns in this book. The epilogue was so cute and I loved the little cameos by characters from other series.
I appreciated the low-angst and really enjoyed how cute and sweet Declan and Cash were. If you're in the mood to read about a grumpy B&B owner and a flirty and bubbly front desk agent(receptionist) getting their happily evwr after then this book is for you. It is a more emotional book because of the journey both main characters are on, but it's a beautiful journey and worth the read.
I received a copy of this book from Neon Rainbow Reviews, and this is my honest review.
Declan and Cash's romance was so cute! I loved the ace representation in this book, and as someone who prefers reading about emotional connections in romances, this was right up my alley. Cash had no shame about being a flirty playboy, but when he invested in something he gave it his all, whether that was renovating the B&B or learning how to be the best partner for Dec. Declan only hid his interest in Cash because he assumed he'd be like the rest of his exes who didn't understand his sexuality, and I so enjoyed watching Cash slowly and methodically prove him wrong. Cash's renovation plan may have started as a hail mary to convince Declan not to sell the B&B, but it also paved the way for both of them to get to know each other beyond the surface. That decision ended up being pivotal for both men, and I loved seeing the way their partnership transformed the rest of their lives. In Declan's case, he figured out how to honor his Aunt's wishes without shackling himself to a job he hated, and the weight that was removed from his shoulders gave him the clarity to seek out the things that were most important to him. For Cash, Declan was someone he could depend on when his family issues took a turn for the worse instead of holding it all inside and trying to take on the world himself.
Speaking of Cash's family issues, that was an element of the story I was not anticipating that turned this from a good book into a great book. Getting to know Kat, seeing the way Declan opened his arms to her and Cash, and following through to the realistic yet hopeful resolution to their situation brought these characters to life in an impactful way. In addition, I got really invested in the hunt to figure out who was vandalizing the B&B, and even though I had a pretty good idea of who it was halfway through the book it was still a devastating reveal when the truth came to light. And in all the spaces in between, there was so much sweetness, romance, and love between Declan and Cash. The two of them made me believe wholeheartedly in their connection, and it was immensely satisfying to see them take on some of the challenges life threw at them and come out stronger on the other side.

Cash has a bad situation at home, with an alcoholic father (as a result of a work injury) and an enabling mother. He feels like he has to live there and contribute to the living expenses in order to protect his sister from the situation on the home front. Further, he has for ages had a crush on the grumpy owner of the B&B, Declan. The latter has a real problem dealing with people, and we find out that he is on the asexual spectrum. His past experiences with other guys have made him gun shy where Cash is concerned. A person he knows in Chicago has convinced Declan to go work from him there. The guy also recommends that Declan sell his B&B to a developer. At Cash’s suggestion, he decides to fix up the buildings and sell to someone who will operate the B&B. At this point, Declan has softened to Cash, but they’ve started to see vandalism at the B&B. In all of this, Cash and his sister have a blow-up with their father, and both move out to the B&B. They eventually overcome all these difficulties and arrive at a happy ending.
The plot in this book is a tad complex since there are several storylines going on: Cash’s feelings for Declan with the latter being on the asexual spectrum; the proposed sale of the B&B and the proposed move to Chicago; the vandalism; the conflict at Cash’s home; etc. The secondary characters can be fun like those we met in previous volumes in the series or nasty like Cash’s father, but all make important contributions to plot development. Our insight into the minds of both main characters is helped a lot by the first person POVs. They each lack confidence, obviously for different reasons, but those questions persist even after they get together. I found that these weaknesses made the characters more credible. The author also managed to connect another series with this one through visiting characters.
I really enjoyed the book and I highly recommend it.
Here is D.J. Jamison's latest and highly anticipated "Resting Beach Face." It's the fourth and final novel in the new Swallow Cove series.
["He could have anyone he wants...so why is he so interested in me?
Cash is a gorgeous chaotic bi guy with a reputation for getting around. And me? I'm the antisocial grump, closed off and lonely.
We should be like oil and water. They say opposites attract, but when you're graysexual, that equation doesn't balance out.
Or does it?
When Cash gets close, my defenses begin to crumble one by one. Each warm smile, each friendly gesture or hug makes me realize what I'm missing.
Cash's sunny warmth is like a ray of light breaking through the clouds. I can't help but soak it up.
But can I really trust the town player to keep my heart safe when no one else ever has?"]
These two made me ache. They were so adorable and piney. It did not help my current anxiety levels (neither did all that is Cash and how deeply complicated his emotions/feelings are--god, he made me want to sob on multiple occasions), but they were both so patient and communicated (multiple times).
And, like so many romance books (not always like life itself, but we can hope), life fell into place. Their jobs, their families, their love lives. After so much hard work and sacrifice and hard talks, it all just...worked out.
I'll miss this town and the people in it, but it was a really great transition into DJ's next series (Gray had so much page space here, teasing us (even though I read his book before this one) for his HEA in "Outcast", the first novel in DJ's Foster Bro Code series). Not to mention the sheer amount of cameos from Granville.
Trigger Warnings: alcoholism, alcoholic parent, emotional/verbal abuse, and more.
Resting Beach Face is the final book in the Swallow Cove series, finally giving us Declan and Cash’s story.
Throughout the series, we’ve seen Cash shamelessly flirt with Declan, making his feelings obvious to anyone paying attention, while Declan always seemed completely unaffected. But as this book shows, there’s a lot more going on beneath the surface for both of them. Watching their relationship progress from friends to lovers, while slowly getting to know each other, was such a joy. That slow build-up allowed them to form strong foundations of trust and respect.
I also loved that we get to see a different side of Cash. In previous books, he was portrayed as a carefree flirt and f*ckboy, but here we get to see his softer, more thoughtful side. We see how deeply he cares not just about Declan, but also his sister (and his mother). I loved how Cash cared and was attentive with Declan by always checking in and making sure he’s comfortable. At the same time, I loved Declan’s steady and quiet support for Cash. It showed just how well they balance each other out. It makes their connection feel real and earned.
Also, Declan’s journey as a grey Ace was beautifully handled. The story does a great job showing that being on the asexual spectrum doesn’t mean missing out on love or intimacy. Declan’s self-acceptance and healing was really handled with care and authenticity, and it was a beautiful exploration and representation of his identity as grey ace.
As a series finale, the book ties up loose ends in a satisfying way while also introducing us to a character who will lead the next series. And I think it’s a great way of giving us something to look forward while wrapping up Swallow Cove series on a perfect, happy note.
I received a copy of this book from Neon Rainbow Reviews, and this is my unbiased review.
Cash & Declan I knew this was the final book from our Swallow Cove crew, but it's still hard to end it anyway. I've loved each and every story that has come from this fascinating and hilarious lake town.
Declan has been such an interesting, laid back character within the series, and we've see quite a bit of him throughout, even though he's not normally with the core group of friends. I loved how he was enfolded in with Cash as their relationship was developing & confirmed, giving Declan that found family element he really needed, being so far away from his parents and sister. He knew he could count on Hudson to be there for him, but he never expected the welcoming outreach from the others.
Cash has always brought the laughs with the group, but we get to see his serious and emotional side in this story, which is a great privilege. The way he's chased Declan over the years showed his friends a definite obsession--which was really more actual devotion--but wasn't clear until the men became couple. Cash himself provided his own support to Declan when it became clear that Declan was unhappy with the way things were going for him in Swallow Cove, but didn't really want to leave.
The "villain" of this story wasn't really much of a surprise, but the method of villainy was detestable, to be certain. I'm glad they were delivered their due.
Declan's gray ace status was a new aspect of sexuality that I'd heard about but never really experienced. It was explained and utilized in a beautiful way in this story, and I feel all the better having read it. This series delivers a wide variety of personal status among its characters--main & side--and it provides a healthy and informative backdrop for those looking to expand their knowledge while reading of love.
I loved every moment of Resting Beach Face and all of the stories within the Swallow Cove universe. I'm sad that it's over, but it's a series I know I can read again and again. I'm really looking forward to seeing how D.J. moves the continuing extended universe forward into her new Riverton series.
I received an advance copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
This was a fun and final addition to the Swallow Cove series where we catch up with the characters of the first three books and find Cash and his two year crush on grey ace character Declan finally getting his man. Declan is very leery of any relationship with anyone, having been burned before by guys who pressured him for a more intimate relationship than he was comfortable with. Cash reads Declan well, willing to move at his pace and with as much or little intimacy as fits within his comfort zone, making sure that whatever they do is something Declan says he wants. The more Declan trusts Cash, the closer they get. Cash is a big support for Declan at the B&B, helping with guests and working on the remodel and repairs, letting Declan see that there is a way to keep the B&B, pursue things that make him happy, and have the man that is the love of his life. The depiction of Declan and the changes he goes through as he accepts Cash more and more into his world is written in a way to help the reader understand more clearly what being grey ace means, while also clarifying in the author’s note that it is a spectrum, so not everyone who is grey ace experiences it in exactly the same way. We also have the character of Poppy as ace and aromantic, another one on the spectrum. I personally like being educated on the different terms and what they mean, having little personal experience with that part of the rainbow. This has been an entertaining series with realistic and relatable characters in an interesting setting, facing everyday problems with finding their person as well as working in and around the hospitality and tourism industry. They are relatively low angst, have a definite found family, and each couple gets their HEA, making them very satisfying reads. I received an ARC from the author, and this is my voluntary review.
This is the fourth and final book in the Swallow Cove series. While it can be enjoyed as a standalone read, I would recommend reading the series in order. Otherwise you will miss a lot of association with the secondary characters. This is the story of Cash and Declan. Cash is a young 20 something year old who has spent his entire life in Swallow Cove. All the store name puns are just his everyday life. He has a horrible home life and is trying to protect his younger sister as much as he can. To cover the stress, he projects a happy go lucky playboy attitude. Declan has taken over the B&B that he inherited from his aunt. While he loved his year spent in Swallow Cove growing up, he is not sure if leaving the hustle and bustle of the big city was his best decision. While he loves the idea of the B&B and all the gardening he does, he detests interacting with the guests. In fact, he is not a big fan of social interaction at the best of time. Cash has been pining for Declan for over two years. None of his usual tricks work. But he is determined not to give up. The funny thing is, Declan is doing the exact opposite. While Cash stirs something in him, he does everything in his power to shut him down. All his previous relationships have taught him that it won't work out. No one wants him for the long haul. This is their story. I really liked that when the two of them started to look below the surface at each other, they truly started to learn about each other. The book is well written and easy to read. I really enjoyed it. I am sad that we are done with Swallow Cove but I am looking forward to the next series by this author.
I received a complementary advanced review copy from Neon Rainbow and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
As an owner of a B&B left to him by his aunt, Declan isn’t the welcoming sort. He loves his garden, but not socializing with the guests. His friend in Chicago offers him a job and a way to sell the place to a developer.
Cash has been hooking up for fun, but on a deeper level, to stay away from his toxic home life. He stays to look after his 15 year old sister, while his Dad drinks and his Mom works.
But he’s been crushing on Dec and decides to only hook up if he really wants someone, which ends up meaning he’s alone for nearly a year.
He offers to help Declan fix up the B&B to sell, but not to a developer, and working together, Declan starts letting his guard down. He tells Cash he’s asexual, or ace, and doesn’t want to start a relationship where he can’t meet Cash’s needs.
Cash discovers that it’s more important to be with Declan, to cuddle, hug, and kiss, than to focus on sex. Once Declan trusts that Cash understands and won’t pressure him, he feels free to ask for what he needs and to say no when he doesn’t feel in the mood.
Things at home worsen for Cash, so he and his sister stay with Declan, the renovations are on track, but the property is vandalized a few times. The culprits are caught, and finally, Dec has his dream job working the outside, while Cash runs the B&B and enjoys helping the guests.
A great ending to this series, with Cash’s behaviour explained, and Declan’s needs changing his way of being in a relationship. It was fun to see the other couples from the other books when they’re all together.
I received this ARC for free and am glad to provide my honest review with appreciation.
It's only been ten months since the first book in the series came out but it feels as though I've been waiting forever for Declan and Cash. So happy that they're finally here. This is a grumpy/sunshine romance but both men have hidden depths. Declan seemed to be a man uncomfortable in his own skin, as though he didn't fit in anywhere. He was trying to honour his aunt and keep her B&B alive but he really wasn't suited to be a genial host. I loved DJ's own voice rep, making Declan grey ace and weaving his sexuality seamlessly through the story. I really understood his feelings towards affection, closeness and sex, and I loved him so much. Cash's situation wasn't obvious to all because he hid his home life from all his friends, showing only his sunny, cheerful, flirty face to all and sundry. So, seeing him open up to Declan and letting him in was as rewarding as Declan telling Cash about his sexuality. What I liked most of all was that we got to see how their relationship worked for them, with Cash respecting Declan's boundaries (not the word I want but can't do better than that) and completely happy with cuddles and kisses when that's all Declan wants. I'm so glad that DJ didn't make Declan change miraculously, letting us see that he wanted to be physical sometimes but not always. Their story was perfect, as was seeing all the rest of the gang that ahve appeared throughout the series. This has been an ensemble cast and the love and friendship between them all shone through, right up until the last page. I'm sad it's finished but the next series has been set up and that sounds just as good.
dj_jamison has never let me down with her books. This was another fun, yet in-depth read.😍😍
I love Cash and Declan. The GrayAce rep in this was on point. And I loved how we didn’t have Declan suddenly becoming a sex god.
The further I read, Declan had me wondering if I wasn’t totally Demisexual but GrayAce. I could resonate with the way he felt. Every emotion, that feeling of never being enough sexually for a partner even when you love them, the feeling of inadequacy and feeling like you’re broken. Not wanting sex and all the shenanigans that came with it, but also not be entirely repulsed by the idea on days when you feel the switch. I resonated with all that and more. Which was why I was happy that Cash took his time to research the Asexuality spectrum so he could understand Declan better and what being GrayAce meant for Declan.
I loved how patient Cash was, despite being Allosexual, he was open to learning and respecting Declan’s boundary. And I loved the low heat aspect of this book. Because it’s tiring when you read a book with Acesexual rep, and it turns into this sex fest.
I hate the misrepresentation and I know that being Ace is a spectrum but there are so many authors out there just slapping the label to their books as tropes without doing their due diligence to the sexuality they’re representing. So this was a great representation.🥰🥰
I’m glad we didn’t go from Declan being GrayAce to suddenly wanting sex every other minute of the day. This was perfect. 👌🥰 Nicely done.
Sawyer and Ash are my favourite boys in this series but Cash and Declan are close taking that spot. This was awesome. Highly recommend.🤩🤩🤩🤩 10/10
It is a Compelling Read about an Ace spectrum guy and his very different lover The title refers to the attitude that many read for Declan. When reviews of his Bed and Breakfast reveal his demeanor is not appreciated by many, he seeks to change that by selling and moving back to Chicago.
But Cash, a playboy by description, makes Declan his target, breaking down what makes him Ace and how to work with it. The two are very opposites, as Cash’s very outgoing personality fits well with the front desk needs for the B&B, and Declan would rather work in the garden and grounds of the resort.
D.J. Jamison shares Declan’s worldview for someone on the Ace spectrum, and Cash, who is introduced for his sleep-around escape from homelife, navigates it when Declan’s defenses are low. Amidst a plan to fix up and sell the Bed and Breakfast, Declan opens up to Cash more and more and learns of his troubled home life when Cash brings his sister with him to escape that life.
D.J. writes with authority on the sensitive Ace spectrum residents, who happen to be several in this Ozark lake area. Her navigation of Declan’s movement along the spectrum is part of seeing Cash for his caring and comforting character, rather than his escapism playboy side.
It’s a beautiful love story, with some real angst that keeps the story moving, and enough reality to keep the reader engaged with adventures at the B&B and this quirky town. All this is part of the series Swallow Cove, full of pun names, and has a crossover to Granville, and the series Games We Play. This rich set of characters is so compelling that we continue to read any of these series to keep up with this special story and people.
I am such a huge fan of this author and adore all her books, but this is definitely my favorite of hers! I just loved Cash and Declan's story right from the start. We've been getting hints about them over the course of the previous books and got to see Cash's flirty, gregarious side, as well as Declan' grumpy side. But it didn't take long in this book to realize there was so more behind their outer shells. Cash is just such a kind, caring soul who would do anything for the people in his life. Declan is also a wonderful person, though lonely and as given up on love because he doesn't think he would ever have enough to give to someone since he is gray ace.
Their story just flowed effortlessly page after page. They communicated like adults, they laid their cards on the table and navigated a new relationship together. Declan's portrayal as gray ace was so well done. From how he explained it to Cash to how Cash accepted and respected him. There was steam, because sometimes Declan wanted intimacy and bedroom fun, but it was always done with so much love and tenderness it made me swoon! I enjoyed their cuddles and late night pillow talk, the way they just easily entwined their lives, and how much they both loved each other. Their connection was so strong and so sweet!
All the side characters were fabulous too, and everyone is back from the previous books in this tight knit community. We are even treated to mentions in the epilogue of our Granville friends, which was a special treat. While I'm sad to see this series end, I really enjoyed my time in Swallows Cove and what a way to end a series--highly recommended!
