This book offers a thoughtful overview of the body’s sensory systems, including touch, proprioceptive, vestibular, and autonomic regulation, and explains how they show up in everyday life. It encourages self-reflection and journaling, helping readers better understand their own regulation, responses, and overall wellness.
As someone with prior education in sensory systems and behavior, I found the information accurate, accessible, and easy to follow. The concepts are presented in a way that makes them approachable even for readers new to the topic.
However, the reading experience itself was challenging on Kindle. There were frequent spacing errors, blank pages between chapters, and formatting inconsistencies that interrupted the flow. The illustrations also felt very childlike and dated compared to the otherwise mature subject matter. I’m not sure whether the blank pages were intentional or a file issue, but it made the e-reading experience less enjoyable.
Overall, the content is valuable and worthwhile for anyone wanting to better understand themselves within their environment. I just hope future editions improve the formatting, especially for digital readers.

March 18, 2026I picked this up because I liked the idea of a more intentional, sensory-based approach to wellness, and overall it’s a really interesting concept. The book does a nice job of connecting how your sensory environment impacts how you feel day to day, and it definitely made me more aware of things I usually overlook.
That said, it felt a little light in places, and I found myself wanting either more depth or more concrete examples of how to apply it consistently. It leans more reflective than actionable at times.
Overall, I’d recommend it if you’re into mindfulness and body-awareness type books and want something that gently shifts your perspective, but it may not fully satisfy if you’re looking for super structured, step-by-step guidance.
Thank you NetGalley and Future Horizons for the ARC!

This feels like a warm hug.
As an occupational therapist, I found this book to be an approachable, yet summative, collection of practical things a reader may want to know about their own sensory processing.
It is relatable and interesting and I found it an easy read and crushed more chapters in one sitting than anticipated. I love the mix of anecdotes, neuroscience, and invitations to connect and reflect with yourself.
I received an advanced copy, but will be wholeheartedly recommending it to many of the new moms in my life. As a first time mom, motherhood rocked my sensory world in new ways. This book was a great opportunity to reflect on the changes and ways to prioritize my wellness moving forward.

Sensory Wellness by Robyn Chu is a fantastic bridge between complex neuroscience and everyday self-care. As an occupational therapist, Chu provides clear strategies for regulating the eight sensory systems to improve emotional balance and focus.
Pros:
Actionable: Includes great "sensory breaks" for kids and adults.
Empathetic: Written with a deep understanding of sensory processing differences.
Cons:
Technical: Some chapters are a bit dense with clinical terminology.
Companion Dependent: You’ll likely want the Reflection Journal (sold separately) to get the full experience.
A solid, insightful read for anyone feeling overwhelmed by their environment.

This is a wonderful manual for rediscovering yourself. It helps you to understand what may be setting you off or why you feel something is lacking. It goes sense by sense with activities designed to help you discover you various sensitivity levels, and comfort zones. There is a companion workbook for recording all of this, but a notebook will do just as well. This is not a book to just rush through. It is intended to stretch out for at least a day on each sense, giving you enough time to really examine it.

Pretty standard/basic self help on sensory issues. Somehow managed to get through the entire book without mentioning Autism and our relationship with sensory issues and wellness, which I thought was odd. The ebook formatting was also not great and I feel like the illustrations were rather performative

Parents and educators hunting for practical help with sensory overwhelm will find this guide refreshingly hands-on. It breaks down how the senses shape daily life and you'll find concrete regulation exercises for kids and adults alike. It's useful though the chapters feel a bit repetitive in places.

I enjoyed this book. It is a gentle overview to the subject with some reflection suggestions and practical examples. If you have knowledge in this area already you may not find too much that is new but it is well presented and well written. Thanks to NetGalley and Future Horizons for the ARC.
