Two college students desperate to live out the high school glory days they never had fall for each other in this silly and sweet romcom manga!

This fun and escapist (non-)age gap romance is brimming with youthful nostalgia and perfect for fans of My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv 999 and In the Clear Moonlit Dusk.

Wakaba Kayano is a 20-year-old college student who was too busy studying in high school to experience the quintessential personal milestones of her teenage years, like going on an afterschool date. In a moment of desperation, she goes out on Halloween in her old high school uniform in an effort to take back some of those heart-fluttering experiences she never had, and in doing encounters Fumito, a boy clad in the quintessential high school boy uniform. Whisked away on the date of her dreams, she panics when forced to reveal her true age--only to find out that Fumito is in college, too!

Volume 2 was so good!!! The pacing was great. There were lots of exciting moments. I really like Wakaba because the girl is so relatable! She said, "I'm going for it," and she went for it! Also her two friends are such girl girls and I love that so much. They are supportive and ship FumiKaba (im still working on the ship name). And Fumito is too cute! Especially evertime Wakaba makes him blush. I'm so glad I continued this series. Volume 1 was a little slow but volume 2 really locked it in for me. I'm excited for the next volume because, yup, you guessed it, we are getting a Christmas scene!!! Cue the uncontrollable hand fanning motions and screaming (think Jonah Hill gif).

Shoutout to everyone who encouraged me to keep reading this series after not super loving volume one, because I enjoyed this one so much!

I'm VERY much enjoying how the romance is progressing, and honestly, seeing Fumito just rolls with everything (including Wakaba's wild expressions LOL) is truly everything! I really love how Wakaba feels so comfortable with him because she knows he accepts all the "cringey" parts of herself. 🥹

I was even more thrilled that we had a brief sports moment!! EEEEEPPP! I'm totally with Wakaba that Fumito looked AMAZING! Plus the photo booth moment!! DOUBLE EEEEPPP!!

I appreciated how our leads are acting like college students, and that while there is nostalgia with a few moments concerning being a high schooler, I feel they could have something real romantically, and am interested in getting the next volume!

Well, glad to see that this wasn’t just a one-trick pony, although it does definitely get some ridiculous mileage out of the central conceit that brought Wakaba and Fumito together in the first place.

But it wisely starts to divest itself from those trappings and move Wakaba’s ideal high school life forward to becoming her ideal college life as well. There’s just enough done with both to make it not feel like we’re tossing the premise entirely to the side.

It doesn’t hurt that Wakaba is such a wonderful character and she and Fumito have an excellent vibe going that believably starts to head towards a more permanent sort of dating arrangement.

Oh, I had my concerns during the mixer section, which shoehorns the whole premise back into things via the annoying friends who want to torment our leads because they’re getting more attached. That part didn’t quite work for me, but the rest is great.

Wakaba has such a wild face game and genuine sense of fun that it’s obvious why Fumito just doesn’t have a chance when it comes to resisting the idea of them going out. Spending time with her just as a reader is a hoot, so it’s not hard to see the chemistry.

They have one of the more memorable zoo dates that I’ve seen in a long time, just because we see so much of Fumito enjoying himself and letting his guard way down. There are times when he’s clearly a little annoyed that he’s feeling this way about Wakaba, which just adds to the fun.

Then, for some reason, the college basketball team is playing a high school game and Wakaba ends up going undercover to catch a glimpse of Fumito in action. The course of true love (and stalker girls) and all that.

While the rationale is a bit odd to me, it’s a clever way to manipulate the premise and get Wakaba into a different high school outfit. Not to mention Wakaba gets herself into a bunch of trouble and there’s some romance to boot.

The way the feelings of Wakaba and Fumito develop is another reason this is so satisfying. Watching Wakaba go from thinking that Fumito could never like her to wanting that for herself is great. Similarly, Fumito trying to be cool and getting steamrolled by Wakaba’s energy is just as good.

This is just such a fun series. It dispenses with a lot of the usual drama in favour of having two people tease each other’s feelings out and come to realize they’re both in love with one another. Even stuff that’s not new, like being forced to stay the night, makes for a good read when these two are involved.

4 stars - this is basically a straightforward story done right and we don’t get as many of those as I would like. Just a great time with some well realized characters who just work together.

4.5 stars. I feel a reread with a complete series may give it the 5 stars. I love the cute and innocent vibes of this series so much. It's like an inner child or spring youth for those who didn't get a time to have to it during high school. The message that you don't have to miss out on things if you have a person to share it with (and grow with) is so nice. These two are cute, and I love them. As someone who had dating and relationship firsts during my college years, this is both endearing and nostalgic. I have tentative high hopes for this series.

Volume 2 turned out to be a genuinely pleasant surprise. It tackled my biggest gripe with the first volume head-on, delivering noticeable growth alongside the series' trademark sweet and comedic moments.

Trading Uniforms for Reality
The biggest win this time around? Waka-chan and Fumito-kun finally started acting their actual age. Leaving the pretend high school charade behind to hang out as actual college students felt like a massive breath of fresh air (and spared us a lot of secondhand embarrassment). Seeing them recognize the value in genuinely getting to know the real person in front of them gave their dynamic far more substance.

The Lingering Hiccups
While the series took a definite step in the right direction, a few familiar quirks remain:

The Overthinking Engine: Waka-chan’s brain is still running marathons of self-doubt. While her hesitation is understandable to a degree, the constant second-guessing does test your patience when the chemistry between them is already working so well.

Pacing the Breakthroughs: Even as they make strides in communication, they still have a habit of tiptoeing around each other a little longer than necessary.

The gorgeous artwork continues to carry the emotional beats effortlessly, and the humor hits much more naturally now that the premise has found firmer footing. It's not completely problem-free yet, but the noticeable upgrade in maturity and character progression makes this a thoroughly fun follow-up.

Review & rating to be adjusted once series complete.

This was not on my radar at all and I'm really glad I stumbled across the eARC (volume 1) because oh my goodness this is one of the cutest and most entertaining shoujo manga I have read in a long time. College student Wakana feels regret over missed experience during her high school years as she was just too busy with her studies. Now in her twenties, she takes the opportunity to dress up in her old high school uniform for Halloween eve, only to bump into Fumito with whom she shares an unexpected first ever high school date.

I almost want to say this is best enjoyed going in blind, though the official blurb already gives certain elements away, but it is what it is. This was such an adorable series opener and really reflects nicely on that feeling of days in our youth I'm sure we all look back to from time to time. The art is really cute and appropriately funny in the right moments. Wakana is such an adorable character - she's got a really great energy and simply fun to read about. Fumito is also a really neat character with how he encourages Wakana's unabashed excitement. This was pure, drama-free, feel good entertainment and a refreshing story that still offers many beloved shoujo tropes in its own way. Absolutely recommended!

This series continues to surprise. Every time you think they are on the same page and admitting they're on a date, something happens and they end up back tracking like they're still just hanging out or not really a couple. For all of their time together and frequent compliments (or in Wakaba's case, fangirling), there's a lot of uncertainty. It seems fairly clear Fumito wouldn't go along with something like this for just anyone though, and he does find some enjoyment out of their time together if even his friends are commenting on it. The group date where they end up getting hazed is also hysterical, though fortunately at least Wakaba's friends seem to be onboard the ship and happy to help out where Fumito's friends are more of pests inserting themselves wherever they can. The progression from their "fetish" dates to "normal" dates is also amusing, especially as they seem to get thrown into cosplay even when they aren't trying to, and then when they do manage to keep their clothes on, they both of those pre-date butterflies making them overdo it all and hoping for the best. Maybe eventually they'll manage to figure things out.

I would honestly give this a 3.5 on the story alone - which is super cute and fun, but nothing earth shattering - a cute/funny premise, a solid story, and continued good character development; we love to see it.

However, Wakaba('s eyeballs) continue to impress. Adorable is not an adequate word - her design and expressions leave me speechless (as in, I'm stuck rofl-ing in the flames of moe and just can't speak due to the circumstances).

Anyway, looking forward to more.

It's still cute but I think it is nice that he seems to like her enough to do all these things for her. Her friends are great. When she tells them about her feelings they immediately support her. I don't know this was just lacking a bit of something for most of it. It just didn't feel like the relationship was really growing. They went on a few more cute dates and the friend groups meeting each other was adorbs as well.

I liked this 2nd volume a bit more than the first one. It was fun to see our characters shedding the cosplay aspect of their relationship more. I also liked seeing them interact more with their friend group.

Something about a man shoving a bun in a woman’s mouth because she was ‘too light’ when he lifted her… I shouldn’t love it… but I love it.
