HOW MANY LIFETIMES WILL IT TAKE?

Wu Xingxue has awakened and realized that he is indeed an archfiend. However, much of his past, like his connection to the mysterious Rex Spiritus or the Arbor Divinus, remains an enigma. Adding to the puzzle is the legendary Tianxiu Immortal, Xiao Fuxuan, who continues to support him. Wu Xingxue’s fragmented memories suggest that Xiao Fuxuan’s helpfullness might stem from a surprisingly simple reason—one that ties them together inexorably.

Determined to uncover the truth, Wu Xingxue travels with his ragtag group to the feared stronghold of fiends: Nightgleam. Once inside, he will surely encounter the archfiend who usurped his position as leader of all fiends.

But when they least expect it, the group is dragged into a vision of the past. And the illusion—if it is an illusion—holds more shocking revelations than any of them could have imagined.

This volume truly met all my expectations and then some. The story was a delicate tapestry of sweet, funny, and lighthearted moments intertwined seamlessly with bittersweet, melancholic scenes, creating a hauntingly nostalgic atmosphere that permeated the entire narrative.

The story arcs in this volume carried a profound emotional weight. Every revelation left me torn between wanting to cry and smile simultaneously, highlighting the depth of the storytelling. The narrative explored the past extensively while skillfully weaving it into the present timeline.

Wu Xingxue stands out without a doubt as one of the most charming protagonists I've encountered. His presence ignites every scene he's in, injecting it with vibrancy, and he imbues each character he interacts with with a unique personality. I truly love him.

Then there's Xiao Fuxuan, who tore at my heartstrings yet brought so much laughter. He embodies an ideal blend of Hua Cheng and Lan Wangji, creating a character who is both enigmatic and hilarious. If you combined these two characters, you'd get Xiao Fuxuan. He shone brightly in this volume, revealing more of his true personality. Don't be fooled by his quiet demeanor; behind it lies a hilarious sense of humor. When he adopts a serious attitude, it exudes a captivating aura that commands admiration. His bittersweet past offers insight into his cold exterior and the perception of him as strict and aloof by others.

Their relationship is nothing short of extraordinary. Their mutual care, playful flirtation, and deep understanding create a beautifully realistic bond—even without a single kiss. Learning about their shared history makes everything fall into place, painful yet incredibly beautiful and sweet. I eagerly anticipate watching their relationship grow even deeper.

The supporting characters breathe additional life into this danmei story. From the charming little heaven pageboys to the fiendish underlings, celestial beings, and cultivators, each character adds vibrant color and vitality to the narrative.

In conclusion, this volume was flawless. I am already eagerly awaiting the third volume.

I couldn't review this actually when I finished it because it hadn't officially released and Forbidden Planet sent it out to me over a week before.

There was a lot going on here. Admittedly I thought it was going to be partly about something else but instead it went in another direction. I thought it was going to be about them encountering and going up against the new Archon but instead we got a lot of backstory and lore drops and information. I'm not complaining because, I swear, this story brings me so much joy. I'm always having a great time when I read it and I just love almost everything about it.

I thought that after the first book all the mystery reveals were over, but boooooy, was I wrong! It's mysteries all the way down.

I enjoyed this book more than the previous, since now the flashbacks and the relationship developments are meatier. Tons of good stuff to find about both protagonists and now I am really interested.
