Layers has left me stunned speechless. Not only was it masterfully written, but the premise of the book is truly astounding. I’ve read a lot of books in my time, but this one is definitely in my top five of all time, if not my top three. There are so many layers to Layers, so many messages within… I don’t want to rob anyone of the moments you’ll experience by saying anything else, so just do yourself a favor and dive right in!
There are so many layers that make us who we are today. Gennie Lynne writes about pain, happiness, hurting, and healing, while also weaving it all together in a way that creates layers of belonging, worth, and self forgiveness. This story shows how a single decision, sometimes not even our own, can spin reality in an entirely new direction, leaving us to sift through the fallout while still trying to breathe. But Gennie also has a way of balancing all the heaviness with soft, tender layers too… small moments of connection and warmth. The hurt is real, but so is the hope! My heart ached for the characters as their circumstances unfolded. I even ugly cried more than once! So be sure to keep a box of tissues nearby! 🥹 If you’ve ever felt defined by choices that weren’t yours… or struggled to forgive the version of yourself who simply tried to survive… this book is for you! I know this book will linger long after the last page.
I’ve never ever read anything like this book. I usually go for sweet, fluffy romances and when the author reached out to me on Instagram asking me to send a copy, I was a little nervous. I’m not the type of person to say anything negative about a book just because I wasn’t a fan, and being a new bookstagramer, I wasn’t sure how to navigate all of this. But I decided to take a chance, and I’m so glad that I did. Because this book is life changing. It is, in my opinion, a love story to life. If you want to read something that will make you feel something, you should check this out. You will not be disappointed.
Also, I finished it in 1 day. Does that mean it was a quick read? Absolutely not! I had the day off today, and I devoured it. I basically didn’t move from my spot on the couch at all.
The author of this book, Ms. Gennie Lynne, was so kind to send me a copy of this book to read.
I just finished this book and I loved it. It’s a story that makes you stop and think about how one decision can change everything—even when it’s not a choice you would’ve made for yourself. I loved the idea of “layers” throughout the book and how it was all pulled together to form an ending full of hope! It is a book that is faith-based, but it’s done in such a gentle, meaningful way that feels real and relatable, not forced. It definitely made me think about my own life and believe that God Is still working. If you enjoy faith-filled stories or have been leery to read one because you feel the faith will be pushed on you (this was me!), pick up this one. 💛
This was one of my top two reads of the year, possibly of all time. This book was so beautiful. The subject matter is difficult but so near and dear to my heart. Definitely check the trigger warnings if you need to, but for me, it was absolutely stunning and gave me a whole new appreciation for my life and the choices a woman has. On top of that, the writing is on another level. It’s not a mystery or thriller, but it has that same brain-tickle that kept me up into the wee hours, constantly asking questions and needing to know what was happening. I loved every part of this book - the story, the writing, the characters - and the fact that this is going to be a series makes me so excited for more. Gennie Lynne’s work here is absolutely perfection, and I wish I could give it more than five stars.
Wow! This book… how do I even find the words? It’s unlike any book I’ve ever read. It truly has so many layers. I absolutely loved Jasmine and Summer’s stories, each told from their own POV. There is so much depth, grief, growth, and healing woven throughout. This is a book I won’t forget and one that will always hold a little piece of my heart. There are so many powerful life lessons that we can all relate to in some way. I can’t say much more because I don’t want to give anything away, but this is a book you will definitely want to read. Wow… wow… wow…
This book begins with the stories of two young women as they navigate new careers, new homes, love interests, and independence. It also intertwines the feelings of their parents from the time they were young and now as they are building their own lives. Honestly, in the first couple of chapters, I wasn’t quite invested in the stories. But once I waded in and went deeper, I was hooked and didn’t want to put the book down. The ending will leave you stunned! The author then gently wraps you in an ending of thoughtful reflection of the stories and even your own life. This is an expertly written book with faith threaded throughout. It is appropriate for anyone, high school and older and I wholeheartedly recommend it!
Such a beautiful story. It took me a little while to get invested, but once I did, I couldn't put it down. The twist pulled me in and left me speechless. So much hope and truth even in the midst of horrible situations. Gennie Lynne wrote this book with compassion and it truly shows.
This book was absolutely beautiful! The dual love story grasped my attention from the start and was so engaging, but even more, there was a beautiful message written in between every page. The way this book weaves together so many powerful truths and life lessons was simply inspiring. It’s one of those books that stays with you long after you’ve finished. (My favorite Christian fiction I’ve ever read!) There’s not much I can say without giving too much away, but wow. This story is as thought-provoking as it is beautiful, and I’m still in awe of how perfectly it all came together. Go read it for yourself! You will not regret it! 😍
Layers is a beautiful & intricately woven story that follows the main characters, Jasmine and Summer, and their journeys through the choices they make. It discusses real-life issues and the impact that those choices can have on others. Writing this review was a little hard because I can’t share too much about the book without giving away spoilers. But I can say that I know this will be a book that I will read again. One of my favorite parts of the story is below:
“You know, Jazz, this is how God works. He is so good at taking all the broken pieces in our life and piecing them together to create something beautiful.”
I slowly nod my head in agreement, thinking of all the broken pieces of my life lately. But I’m still waiting on the beautiful part.
I could not put this book down. Easy to fall in love with the characters in this story. Such healing and redemption fill the pages of this beautifully scripted story. No doubt, this wonderful work shows us how to love our layers and let God's love heal and restore. Definitely worth reading a second and third time. I can not wait to read more from Gennie Lynne.
