I am so glad I finally pulled this book off my shelf. There were many great ideas in here to help my students not only with independent reading but with the books we tackle in class. I will need to go back through it again to see how I want to use some of these techniques successfully, but I look forward to that! I especially liked that Robb said we don't want to kill reading w/ too much writing. I want to model the ideas about journal entries in class and then see if students can complete them on their own, just not on a daily basis. Can't wait to read the next book!

I think I read this book too soon after Teaching Reading In Middle School. There is quite a bit of overlap between the two books, but I did mark some sections I'd like to return to later in the summer as I plan my class for the year.

Practical applications...easy to follow and implement. I really like the "reflection" sections at the end of each chapter.
