The Memory Witch

Rate this book
Memory Witch Cecilia & her Guardian Rainer prepare for their first trip to pursue the Gauntlet—a series of seventy-seven caves that create a grimoire in the language of memory. But before they can begin the quest to release an ancient kingdom-saving magic, they must grapple with a hunter tournament, courtly social politics, & a fight over the latest fashions that leaves the two at odds when they most need to be a team. Can Cecilia and Rainer make peace with each other? Or will they set out on the road as at war with each other as they are with the enemies that wait beyond their kingdom's borders? Choose your quest and follow Cecilia or Rainer to find out.

Sheila Masterson is the USA Today Bestselling author of The Poison Daughter, a dark enemies to lovers romantasy standalone about a vigilante who uses her poison kiss to take revenge on abusive men in her community, until she's unwittingly thrust into an arranged marriage with the only man immune to her magic.

Her other works include the gothic fairy tale fantasy romance, Song of the Dark Wood, the angsty epic romantasy quartet, The Lost God Series, as well as its next-generation standalone spinoff, A Legacy of Stars.

When Sheila's not busy stabbing beloved side characters and dreaming up new ways to make her readers cry, you can find her browsing the shelves at local indie bookstores, drinking fancy cocktails with friends, or curled up reading books and tarot. She lives outside Philadelphia with a small army of underwatered houseplants that survive out of spite.

A self dependant witch needs to travel the grimoire of seventy seven caves to pursue the Gauntlet and therefore the language of memory. To accompany her travels is a Rainer, an officer of the kings guard and her guardian. Not that she believes she needs guarding.
As you read this story, you can feel the tension of the two characters that have been pulled together and resent this fact. But as they travel and fight a number things within the caves, the spark of romance occurs. Its subtle, it begins with honest adoration for each other. But as they progress they start to learn this new language. The language of love.
This is a story you can get behind the characters, they are well written and feel very much realistic people you would know. The world building could do with the same amount of effort as the character development, but that I hope will improve over the series.
In the meantime, enjoy this prelude and perhaps you too would like to read how this series of books develop Cecilia and Rainer.
