I really enjoyed the story at first I was a little upset at C because I just feel like he was making excuse after excuse after not to be with Malcolm. And I was understanding at first, but then different excuse came in a different excuse so I started getting annoyed. But anyways, I did understand all his reasons, but they still got under my skin, but overall, it was a very nice story. I really enjoyed it. It was a good read.

The plot was nice: two best friends, an alpha, Malcolm, and an omega, Carrick, have been close since childhood. They've always been straight and attracted only to women, but during a convention they have an intimate encounter. Since they didn't find girls to pick up, they decided, on Malcolm's suggestion, to help each other out.
That moment of intimacy changes their friendship: while Malcolm acts like he put that behind him, Carrick can't stop thinking about his friend in a sexual way. He's confused and stressed and take a step back from Malcolm.

After a double date gone wrong, Malcolm and Carrick confesses their attraction toward each other and surrender to it: Malcolm's close proximity and the arousal he triggers in Carrick, push him into an intense heat. Malcolm, then, reacts going into a rut.
During their intercourse, Carrick offers himself and Malcolm bite him.

Unfortunately, despite being best friends, these two have real trouble communicating, they can't understand each other's needs and feelings and they have a big argument that will continue the day after ad will almost break them apart.

What bothered me the most was that they never were in tune, they seemed to need completely different things and, while the mating scene is good, the argument that came just after that, ruined the vibes. In particular, Carrick is very much stressed about people finding out he's bisexual and that he's mated with Malcolm. He's obsessed about it and he doesn't even realise he's hurting Malcolm in the process.

When they finally find a way to be together for real and the time comes for them to be out as a couple, the author just mentions it in a couple of sentences: all that hurt and pain are solved into nothing, we don't get to see them coming out to their bosses, their colleagues, their parents. It's all swept under a rug.

The second part of the book is more boring than the first one: Carrick is pregnant and Malcolm fusses over him and the baby all the time. All goes well, no drama, no problems, just sex, doctors appointments and baby talking. I feel there should have more balance between the two halves of the book.

carrick was a bitch! malcom and cheyenne deserved a better friend.

he had all things hang ups about wanting to be public like these people don’t care about you! the two shitty officers are just assholes and malcom can beat them up anyways so i didn’t see the big deal in keeping it a secret.

malcom was right they kept having the same conversation and going in circles.

carrick needs to grow up and honestly i understand why malcom brought up the conversation of getting the bite removed. carrick wanted malcom to be the bad guy so bad but he wasn’t. malcom gave him nothing but time even though it was brought up in almost every conversation they had but he still gave him time.

they should’ve just stayed friends honestly. malcom deserves better!

Content wise this was 3.5 stars, I just had an issue with some of the arguments feeling very repetitive, characters would say the same thing like 3 different times. Just a little more editing maybe but the heart of this story is good and I still enjoyed it

This was a really sweet best friends to lovers read. Omg I actually really enjoyed it. It was light fun. Even with a little bit of angst. Definitely will be reading more from this author!

so I actually really liked the beginning and I was getting the angsty feels....and then the first strike: hated the writing style. OMG I found it so obnoxious. I don't even know why, but I kept rolling my eyes at the inner monologue of both characters. And then Malcolm started pissing me off. He was being a little too much of a Man ™.

Review for Best Friends by Beau Brown

Having a person you can rely on has been great for Carrick and Malcolm. Being able to depend on another is one of the best gifts you can be given. All that changes one night. Seeing that they are not just friends but could also be so much more for each other. Carrick is having a hard time going all in with the secret he is hiding, unlike Malcolm, who is all in. Being Best friends for so many years, both of them know what the other needs, wants out of life. Will what they feel for each other help build a stronger relationship, or will it crush what they have built through the years?
This was such a sweet story. I love how it starts with just friendship. But for all of us who might have loved our best friend, it shows that in some cases, it can be a stronger relationship for each other. I enjoyed this story.

'I know how to make a move on a girl, but how does one make a move on their best friend?
... I can’t help laughing. This is so weird. Having my best friend looking at me like he wants to eat me for lunch makes my knees weak.'

I loved this book. I've always loved the best friends to lovers dynamic, and Malcolm and Carrick were really cute together. They've been friends for so long and they knew each other so well. But clearly not everything, and one drunken and lustful night, and offer from Malcolm, opens Carrick's eyes to a new possibility. Their chemistry was fire! (The opening discussion in the elevator, as scorching as it was, also made me laugh because it felt like a realllllly long [uninterrupted 7 page] ride and I kept waiting for them to reach their floor lol) I liked the banter between them, and how they talked things through. I was totally invested in them and hooked to their story. 5 stars

PS- I really liked that the author wrote a "This Omega World's Rules" section at the beginning, since I'm always curious about the dynamics!

Carrick and Malcolm’s journey from steadfast friendship to something deeper is an emotional rollercoaster of vulnerability, truth, and devotion. What begins as a rock-solid bond quickly morphs into something more complicated—more intimate—after one transformative night. Suddenly, they're navigating blurred boundaries and unspoken feelings, each step forward rich with tension and possibility. Carrick, quietly haunted by a secret, wrestles with the fear of exposure, while Malcolm’s unwavering love and determination offer both comfort and challenge. The dynamic between them is electric yet delicately written, capturing the messy beauty of falling for someone you thought you knew.

I enjoyed that they were best friends to lovers (a point that was made clear throughout as both characters kept referring to one another as their best friend), and I enjoyed the relationship felt somewhat 'real'. It was angsty, they got pissed at one another, and you could see why. They had little reasons for feeling how they felt and doing what they

And despite being a Mpreg based book, I kind of felt it didn't take centre stage until much later in the book. This meant the build-up was better, and you had further upstanding of the relationship better the pregnancy.

For them reasons it was a good read.

Stepping over the line, opens worlds! Malcolm, an alpha is besties with Carrick who is an omega. Malcolm, is usually very successful with short term liazons with females. During a work trip, both men realize the females are mostly interested in long term relationships. They cross a line that takes their friendship to an entirely new exciting level. Malcolm, expresses his feelings more easily while Carrick has always struggled to say how he feels. There is a lot ofcommunicating challenges and admitting and owning ones' truth. Carrick and Malcolm are nice likeable men. We all go on the journey with them and all come out better for it. Good story, fun timing, great flow, nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This story is a sweet best-friends-to-lovers slow burn. Who makes the best partner if not the one who already knows all your quirks and likes? Carrick and Malcolm have been inseparable for years, but one night—after striking out with the ladies—their friendship takes a surprising turn. What could have been a wasted evening instead blossoms into something deeper, leading them from laughter and comfort into love. Now, with a baby on the way, we get to watch this once-best-friends duo grow into a tender, loving family.

Loved both characters. Loved this story and I'm not a huge fan of mpreg stories.

Sneaky Malc set it all up (just like Chey said he most likely did) and in the end won the heart of his best friend, C. What a risk that was too! I can see why Carrick was hesitant watching his best friend go through women with the love'em and leave'em attitude of his for years. And at least, I assume, he was looking for a substitute for C and wasn't finding it.

Granted this author could use a couple of stronger beta readers. But I am giving it a 5 star because it had such a loving, homey feel to it.

A really sweet, cute, easy to read story that left me feeling warm and fuzzy. There were some typos/grammar issues here and there, and some of the dialogue felt kind of unnatural at times, but the pros far outweighed the cons to me.

* Childhood best friends to lovers
* Alpha falls first
* Protective alpha
* Jealous/possessive MCs
* Strict roles
* Knotting
* Bottom awakening (Carrick had only topped prior to being with Malcom)
* Single POV (Carrick's)

Wonderful

What an amazing and wonderful story. Two best friends hook up at a convention and from there things change. It’s a story of friendship, love, commitment, compassion, confusion, with some sass, hurts, and a very possessive Alpha. This book is well written. There are a few places where some words don’t belong but overall this book is amazing. I was Oooing and awwing just about all through the book. A totally 5 star ⭐️ worthy book. 💜❤️

Ended up DNFing

I don’t know what kind of romance this technically is but god it was depressing and frustrating. Every character sucks besides Carrick. The whole relationship is just Carrick being emotionally manipulated and forced by everyone and not in a dark romance hot way.

2 stars because the writing on its own isn’t bad, it’s the quality of the characters and story that’s bad.

To be honest I'm being generous by giving this book three stars. The amount of repetitiveness in this book is outrageous. The inner monologue of Malcolm especially irritated me. And the sad thing is the beginning of the book was really good.

Boring. The drama was repetitive and it was basically them battling their inner homophobia and then having loads of sex. The miscommunication was lame and unbelievable. The banter was thin and unrealistic.

There was no plot.

It also desperately needed another round of edits.

5k does not equal 5 miles or a marathon. 5k is 3.1 miles. A marathon is 26 miles. So…not even close.

good

New author to me. I love best friends to lovers and I enjoyed watching Malcolm and Carrick navigate this new relationship. Malcolm is all alpha. Carrick has mixed feelings of being the omega. A bit of dating/flirting women angst.

Low angst and sweet

There was a lot of emotional drama. Not very high in plot or character development. It hit hard and fast with the smut which may be par for the course in a friend's to lovers story. It was decent I just wasn't overly impressed or enthralled.

So good!

I rarely read this trope because of the unnecessary roadblocks or self-forced loneliness the MC creates. Carrick was very angsty but it was understandable as everything he thought he knew was changing. Either way, this book gave me everything I could’ve asked for!

I don't know which one is worse, Carrick's indecisiveness or the friends-to-lovers trope, but Carrick's insecurities definitely made the story less enjoyable, that's for sure.

It was really good. I love the progress how you end up getting to know each other what they know each other for a long time anyway all throughout the book I love that.

I thought this was really cute! I really liked the characters. I enjoyed reading about them figuring out their emotions and trying to navigate a new relationship while maintaining their old one. it was sweet and very realistic with making mistakes and communicating after arguments. I definitely want to check out more!
