This causes Finn to take unnecessary risks — especially when it comes to his favorite sport in the world:
Surfing.
When Finn hears a rumor about a beach called Leviathans — located in the small town of Stars Cove California — the promise of twenty-five-foot swells is too exciting for him to pass up.
However, Leviathans beach has a dark history.
A history filled with monster waves, lethal secrets and one very dead surf legend.
Despite the warnings of the town locals, Finn is determined to conquer a beach so gnarly, the men who discovered it named it after biblical sea demons.
…Even if it kills him.

My heart! 😭😭😭😭 Why would you do this to me. I love going into a book blind for this exact reason. This book hit me so hard and my heart couldn’t take it.
That being said… READ THE FREAKING BOOK!!! Alexandra writes beautifully and I fall in love with EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER she creates. I read the entire book in one sitting. You heard the right, ONE SITTING! I couldn’t put it down. I still don’t want to put it down tbh. She didn’t warn me she was going to destroy my soul with this one. Next week’s therapy bill is on you, Alex.
Man this was not AT ALL what I expected…… it’s not a higher rate because I felt a little bored through parts of the book and only got very into in the last 20% ! But it was a very cool story and I was surprised with what it actually was. I was truly blindsided and the unexpected HEA ! I am not giving any detailed review because I truly think people should be as surprised and shocked as I was. This is the story of Finn and Riddick, both surfers. Finn is 21 and Riddick is 38 so there’s a big age gap there. Also Riddick is Finn’s coach so also has the taboo relationship. The reason I got a little bored was because I wanted more details in their relationship and in Finn’s and Turtle’s friendship, I wanted more. The book kept skipping weeks and I felt a little disconnected with the couple because of that. But still the book is good and the ending was surprising to me, I did not picked up on any hints so I was shocked. Great time.😉
This book is beautiful. Infinite stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Finn + Riddick 🖤 Age gap | Praise | Non-conventional HEA
Something about me is that I'm dead inside. This was the first book to ever make tears actually fall for me. I've teared up before but never full-on cried while reading. Until now.
A book that truly deserves all the hype it gets.

"When Riddick smiled, it felt like everything was right in the world, and I would never be touched by darkness again."
"My brave, beautiful boy. You're gonna make me so proud, aren't you?"
"I'm not going anywhere, baby. Rest now. You're safe; everything is fine. I won't leave you. I promise."
"Please dont leave me..." "I'm just going to shower, sweet boy, then I'll be right back. I promise I'm not leaving you." "Promise? Everyone always leaves me..."
"Breathe for me, baby. You're so beautiful when you breathe."

This book is everything and more. Of all the MM books to read this year, it’s this one. Honestly, I didn’t expect it to be an emotional read.
Finn feels no fear and knows the moment he sets foot on a surfboard, surfing is in his blood. Traveling the world surfing, he buys a shack on the beach, where he meets an older gentleman named Riddick. Riddick agrees to coach Finn to surf the dangerous Leviathans. This is where the beautiful love story begins.
This book is one of my top reads of the year. I couldn’t help but fall in love with almost all the characters. This story not only broke my heart but also brought me joy. This is a very unique love story. It’s not your typical romance and I love that! I just didn’t want this book to end and needed more. If I could give more than five stars I would.
I'd write a proper review, but I can't because I can't see out my blurry, tear flooded eyes. Nor can I type well one handed, wiping stupid snot bubbles from my nose... WHILE I UGLY CRY. 😭
Heartbreakingly beautiful. Idk what else to say, because it’s just PERFECTION 🤷🏻♀️ I’m still not recovered from this majestic unicorn of a book. Finn & Riddick will live in my head rent-free ♾️
Finn is just your normal golden retriever surfer bro, always looking to catch the best waves. When he hears of 25 foot swells at the Leviathans, he has one goal, and one goal only. He moves across the country to conquer the deadliest waves. When Finn meets Riddick, he is able to convince Riddick to coach him in order to prepare him for the dangers of the Leviathans. When their relationship starts to grow into something more than coach & trainee, Finn gives Riddick an ultimatum. As secrets of the deadly Leviathans come to light, Finn is left to differentiate what’s real and what’s not.
This was a super easy & light read, in my humble opinion. I was really able to envision the story playing out in my head, especially with all the “surfer bro” language. The banter was also comical and entertaining at times.
Unfortunately, I didn’t really feel connected to the story or characters. Something was missing from it for me, and I’m not sure what. It could be that I didn’t really feel the connection between the MC’s or that it was very mush so insta-lust. There was a plot twist that I didn’t necessarily expect, and after that the story became pretty predictable for me.
Overall, it was still a good & easy MM romance. Definitely give it a read for the summer. 🌊🏄♂️🤙
Thank you to Alexandra St. Pierre for providing me with this early copy 🖤
The expo dump on Finn's whole history in the intro came very close to making me DNF because of how dull it was.
What kind of person chokes a stranger on their first meeting? I mean Finn was being an asshole but Riddick was freaking insane.
Idk why authors choose to perpetuate GFY stories as opposed to just having MCs be attracted to both genders. Super annoying to essentially say "Finn is basically straight except for this one guy"
Also, I know there was a content warning about some dubious consent, but I honestly thought it would've come later in Finn and Riddick's story after they'd gotten to know each other better and Dub-con is already very very questionable, but at least give me a freaking reason to think that one of the MCs isn't just a straight up sexual assaulting criminal. Christ.
Timelasping most of Finn and Riddick's time together made their mid book argument feel very flat. Since we only got the "Riddick and I spent weeks training and having dinner" line instead of showing how attached Finn and Riddick had become to each other, I didn't feel the strength of their supposed connection. When Finn started acting sad over not spending time with Riddick, it just felt unearned. The author just told us that Finn had grown attached to Riddick because of their lessons, but without more evidence shown, it did not land for me. Ditto for the reverse, but was somehow even worse with Riddick's supposed attraction to Finn because we saw even less of his thoughts so he really just went from zero to to weeks of saying he doesn't want Finn to suddenly "I can't fight it anymore." Would've been nice if we saw Riddick's resolve slowly erode as he and Finn got closer, but since most of their time together was timelapsed, it just felt super unjustified and instalovey.
It was Finn's first time having gay sex but somehow he was taking big dicks like he was experienced? Ok, sure.
The book then timelapses even more of Finn and Riddick's time together until we're treated to a weirdass evil mayor + son subplot that felt super unconnected until it pops out at the end then we get the twist of the book that Yeah, I thought that was the case, but I thought that surely the author wouldn't do something so out of left field.
I had questions regarding the world's reality at that point. Then of course the only possible conclusion happened and I was officially happy to be done with the circus.
To be clear, I don't have a problem with twists, but ones like the one here that really rub me the wrong way.
The rug pull would've been forgivable if the romance was actually decent, but the absence of courting/romantic tension in favor of instalove (including a sexual assault) and timelasping made this not enjoyable to read at all. I'm not sure why so many of the comments imply people are crying over the emotionality of this story when so much of it was essentially summarized away, but this clearly was not a book for me.
“He made me feel safe. He made me feel like I wasn’t alone. My feelings for Riddick were so strong. Too Strong. They had the potential to sweep me away and absolutely ruin me… but they also felt so good. He felt so good.”
ARC review
Your Honor, I love them 😭 Finn and Riddick are such a cute couple. This is the perfect MM summer romance read that’s gonna take you on an emotional roller coaster. You are not ready.
After our sweet ADHD MMC Finn hears a rumor of a so-called beach called Leviathan’s that has waves that surpass 25 foot swells. It’s just too exciting of an opportunity for his adrenaline junkie self to pass up. Little does he know they call this beach leviathan’s beach after biblical sea demons for its deadly waves. Our boy Finn is determined to conquer these monsters and in order to prepare he seeks out someone to coach him on the ins and outs. That’s where our grumpy Zaddy MMC Riddick comes in. He’s reluctant at first to help her boy out, but if Finn is one thing it’s persistent and I mean who can really resist his dimples? Riddick finally caves, and takes this little shark bait on to prepare him for these deadly waves.
The tension builds from there. The story is jampacked full of summer fun surfing, emotional damage, secrets and reveals, a past surfer legend, and some swoon worthy spice. Let me tell you when that spice hits. I was fanning myself like no other. These two are perfect for each other. 5⭐️

Chasing Riddick is a MM romance story about Finn and Riddick.
Wow. From the start I got so into this book and couldn’t put it down. This was such a beautiful story that had me crying at the end of it. I absolutely loved it. I can’t stop thinking about Finn and Riddick and I need more of them. I want to say so much about their story, but it is best to go in blind. I will say after I finished reading this book, I immediately purchased the paperbacks and ebook. This is my first book by this author so I am eager to check out more of her work.
Omg! First I absolutely love Finn. He is all sunshine and rainbows but not in an annoying way. It's the dimples... you can't help but love him. This book made me laugh and cry. The twists! Just wow. Happiest saddest ending ever. Idk how Alexandra does this every time but I swear I could have read another 300 pages with ease. I hope there's more books to come! Kai and Jet need their happy endings too. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
i don’t think ill ever recover from this book. i’m sobbing real life tears. wtf did i just read? that was so beautiful. i’m going to be 5-7 business years to get over this book. i literally have no words, it was perfection.
I wanted to love this one, I really did. I did like the authentic way surf culture was represented here, and the setting was a great idea. The spicy scenes were well written. However this one fell very flat for me. The 'twist' wasn't a surprise at all, the ending wasn't a surprise at all, and it felt a little juvenile in the delivery of the plot. I definitely wasn't manipulated into feeling emotional for these characters as it just didn't feel genuine. I wish I liked it better.
I regret reading this. I was initially confused how I felt because the writing in this is absolutely beautiful and the author is tremendously talented HOWEVER I could not get past the ending of this. This is not a HEA or HFN and I do not understand how it is marketed as ‘unconventional HEA’. Destroyed the whole book and honestly ruined the whole plot retrospectively.
Definitely one of those books I'm going to be thinking about for a very long time... These characters took over my heart in a very short period of time and they aren't going anywhere! 😭🖤
I had some big problems with this book… but also… it was really hot and I’m a praise kink whore?
Seriously though… there aren’t a lot of books that are both hot AND have an interesting plot/characters, and I appreciate the effort this book made to do that, even though I do think it fell short in some areas. Some weird time jumps and some very weak/dubious paranormal explanations, for example.
Finn is an adorable surfer himbo, and Riddick is a delightfully grumpy surfing expert who reluctantly agrees to “train” Finn so that he can attempt to surf some dangerous waves. Riddick is also so toxically possessive/obsessed that it would have been a turn off if not for all of the assurance the author gives us that Finn is into it. I do appreciate those assurances!
A lot of praise, some hurt/comfort, some light D/s vibes. Oh! And some great tension/build up!
The ending felt weirdly anti-climactic and maybe a little rushed? But overall I had fun so 4 stars 🤷🏻♀️

I’m here to be a hater. This was like Surf’s Up, but make it gay, and I was really excited for that. Then, it went downhill. Here’s why:
- the age gap. Finn is 21 and Riddick is 38. Not horrible but also the way Riddick acted… nah. - the non consensual acts after barely knowing each other. Riddick touching Finn in his sleep for weeks? And Finn thinking he’s having wet dreams… NAUR. - Riddick calling Finn “baby boy” during sexual acts 🥴 - finding out Riddick is dead this whole time……… make it make sense. - fucking on his grave??????????? at this point, I’d had enough.
I DNF’d this and skimmed to the end just to know what happens. I was really looking forward to a surfer mm romance but this was NOT IT for me. The rest of y’all can continue to cry about the ending though. Again, I’m a hater for this.

Chasing Riddick is a unique and highly emotional story. Finn and Riddick are characters with a story I won’t be forgetting anytime soon. I recommend going into this book as blindly as you are comfortable with because it really adds an element of intrigue to the plot. The spice in this book was fantastic, and I loved how the grumpy Riddick softened for the vibrant Finn. The praise was absolutely delicious.
I did find this book was getting very hyped on social media, between the unique story elements and extremely emotional final 20 percent of the book. Because of that, I almost felt like I had a hard time getting into things. Once the book hits about 60 percent, I found I had a much more difficult time putting it down. And yes, it absolutely hit me right in the feels. I’m not a big crier when reading, but this one had me in tears. Although the happily ever after is unconventional in today’s romance landscape, it’s perfect for the plotline of this story. I also loved Turtle as a side character, and his friendship with Finn and their amazing adventures in Shelly just added to the surfer vibes.
Because Goodreads has a spoiler feature, I can discuss the last 40 percent of the story safely! Please proceed at your own risk.
Although the ending is unconventional, it’s perfect. This story is an amazing commentary on grief and fate, and I’d recommend it if you’re in the mood for something very emotional and beautiful. Great job hitting us right in the feels Alexandra!
I received an advanced review copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I finished the book but the book definitely FINISHED ME.
Wow. Wow. Alexandra does it again with an amazing book, that might just top my love for The Mercenary and the Mortican. I will be thinking about Finn and Riddick for days on end.
4.5 stars, rounded. SO FUCKING GOOD AND BEAUTIFUL AND HEARTBREAKING. I literally cannot stop rereading it 😭 I think I’ve read it at least 3 times now. Like wtf? Where has this been all my life? This is my fav book of the month, maybe even year so far 👀 I had my inklings early on in the book, and even when everything played out, my enjoyment did not decrease at all. This was amazing, and I can’t wait for future books this author has in store.

***THOUGHTS:*** I was really excited when I got this ARC, but I don't think I knew what I was getting into. This is an absolutely soul-crushing, heart breaking story. It works out in its own way, but it's not for the faint of heart. I sobbed my way through this book after around the 35% mark, and it didn't really stop until well after I finished the book. This is one of the most painful books I think I've ever read, but it was absolutely beautiful.
If you're not afraid to lose ten pounds in tears, read it.
My biggest tip: listen to the suggested song for each chapter. Alex's playlists are perfect for her books, and not listening to the songs means you won't experience the book the way it is meant to be experienced.
***THOUGHTS ON SPICE:*** I don't know how to write about the spice in this book. It was really intense and really hot, but at a certain point, the spice took a turn. It was so intense for most of the book, because you know something isn't quite right. I can't really explain it more than that without spoilers. But I think I cried through most of the spicy scenes in this book. The spicy scenes in this book felt more intimate and romantic than anything else I've read in a long time.
I think a part of me is still processing how I feel after reading this. 🫠. I knew going in it would be emotional, St Pierre said so, she warned me. But I will now be sending her my therapy bills, take that how you will.
This book is about challenges, no fear, surfing and falling in love. A love so complete that it transcends. Riddick learns that you don’t always get to choose when you fall in love. Sometimes it just slams into you and takes you for a wild ride. Finn comes out of nowhere and upends the world Riddick has made for himself, and he does so unapologetically.
Finn wants to surf the most dangerous waves, but he needs someone who has the skills to teach him. Riddick teaches him so much more. And it’s so beautifully written. The struggle with the losses they have suffered, the abandonment Finn is terrified of. It encompasses so much more than just shredding waves.
I seriously annihilated this book in like 3 hours. I could not put it down, I needed to know everything that this was. This is a book that will absolutely live in my soul, for so many reasons. If you want to be beautifully scarred then I highly recommend reading this.
Oh, Alex… what are you doing to me?! Just when I think you can't possibly deliver another banger, you prove me wrong. I was absolutely buzzing to receive a PR Box for Chasing Riddick, and, as always, Alex’s little details are just adorable.
This story follows Finn—an aspiring surfer with the wildest adrenaline addiction—who roams the coast with his best mate Turtle in their beloved van, Shelly. Their bromance is pure gold—the banter, the unwavering loyalty, the sheer passion they share for the waves. It’s such a joy to read.
Finn, our chaotic ADHD MMC, hears whispers of a mythical beach. For him, it’s the ultimate challenge, an opportunity he simply cannot pass up. What he doesn’t realise is that Leviathan’s isn’t just a name—it’s earned its title thanks to the biblical sea demons that supposedly haunt its waters. These waves? They’re deadly.
“𝙼𝚢 𝚋𝚛𝚊𝚟𝚎, 𝚋𝚎𝚊𝚞𝚝𝚒𝚏𝚞𝚕 𝚋𝚘𝚢."
Determined to conquer them, Finn seeks out someone to train him. Enter Riddick, the seasoned pro who wants absolutely nothing to do with Finn and his reckless ambitions. But once he realises Finn will throw himself into the deep end—with or without him—he reluctantly agrees to teach him. And from there? Sparks, tension, feelings.
“𝙱𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐, 𝙵𝚒𝚗𝚗, 𝚖𝚎𝚊𝚗𝚜 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚢𝚘𝚞’𝚛𝚎 𝚊𝚕𝚒𝚟𝚎.”
I won’t lie—the plot twist knocked me sideways. But honestly? It’s just so Alex—every story layered with surprises that hit in all the right places. Chasing Riddick isn’t necessarily dark, but it’s an emotional ride—a tide that pulls you in, crashes over you, and refuses to let go.
This book is a mix of passion, thrill, lust & love, emotional trauma, secrets, revelations, and stepping into the shadow of a surfing legend.

I wasn’t sure I was ready for this since Alexandra St Pierre always manages to hurt me a little with her books but it was a buddy read so I picked it up and I’m so glad I did! Did it hurt a little?! Yes! But I loved the journey of Finn and Riddick. I really enjoyed their dynamic. Finn was funny, driven and optimistic while Riddick was caring and protective in his own grumpy way. I really liked seeing their relationship change and Riddick slowly started to let his guard down the more time he spent with Finn. The breakfasts were sweet, making dinner was adorable as was Riddick waxing Finn’s surfboard for him. I really liked that once Riddick found out about Finn’s ADHD his first instinct was to find out more information on how to be a better support system. Finn and Turtles friendship was great! Turtle was so supportive even when he was wary of Finn’s choices and it was clear through their talks they had a loving bond which was nice to see. This was a good time and I’m happy I finally picked it up! 💛🩷💛
This is a friends to more romance, featuring Finn and Riddick, and is a standalone book.
Finn can’t feel fear, and the rumor of the deadly Leviathans Beach in Stars Cove, with its towering swells and dark, tragic history, is too tempting for him to resist. Ignoring every warning, he’s determined to conquer the monster waves named after biblical sea demons… even if it kills him.
Well I cried my eyes out. This story grabs you from the first page and it’s impossible to look away from. It’s fast-paced, and beautifully written, well worth the read.

Finn and Riddick’s story will take you on an emotional journey of grief, love, and ambition.
“How long have you been watching?” he asked as I came to stand next to him. “Since the day we met,” I murmured.
It’s 12am and I work tomorrow but it was so worth staying up to finish this. I loved it and highly recommend.
