Through efforts and, surprisingly, occasional bouts of diplomacy, Viv has managed to turn the monster-infested calamity that is the continent of Param into a peaceful land. Halluria is pacified. Her friends, the Kark, can now live in the Steppes protected from the depredation of the Pure League. Even the remnants of the Old Empire have joined her banner with the hope of a better life. Only one disaster zone is left to reclaim. Only one blight the first one, the one that drew her and almost killed the Deadlands. And if she manages that, well, there are two more continents to visit! Would be a shame if some tyrant united them and then crossed the ocean to murder her.
We’ve finally seen the Ascenders fight and the Empress rise to battle, and it was both amazing and very sad. Usually by the time a series hits ten books, you start to feel weary of the world and tired of the characters, ready to finish it off or even stop midway. This series is the rare exception. It stayed strong to the very end, and I honestly wish there were more books beyond this one. Unfortunately it’s over, but it ended on a high note and delivered a finale worthy of everything that came before.
Rating: 5/5 Cover Art: 5/5 Narration: N/A Favorite Line: A shell for every human, Lak-Tak whispered. A life for every bloom.
Enjoyed the series. This final entry hits the all the good stuff though it also reads like it could have been two different books and reads modestly as a highlight reel. If you were to condense 8 + 9 into one volume that’s probably similar. One part of the story seemed… forced/awkward. I get why it happens and overall it probably adds quality to the story though while reading it I struggled a little with why it happens. If you’re a fan, you’ll probably notice the part when reading it. Actually you’ll definitely notice.
Ass the blurb says, this is the final book of The Calamitous Bob series. I've followed this series from the start, and it's always been one of my favourites. I'm sorry to see it end, but I found it to have a satisfactory finish. I can recommend this book, and indeed, the whole series, to those who enjoy an isekai fantasy read.
The Calamitous journey of Vivian has ended, and while I'm sad to see it finished hoh boy was it a blast, this entry brings the majority of the series' previous set-up to head in a beautiful climax of epic proportions and I loved every second of it, highly recommended.
Great finale! It was better than expected, with plenty of interesting developments and strong conclusions to all storylines. The final antagonist was really terrifying and I enjoyed seeing him beat.
Unfortunately, even the last book remains absolutely non-proofread, but at this point I learned to accept it.
Thank you Alex Gilbert for one of the best series ive read in recent years. In a genre choked with emoty meaningless spectacle and hollow power fantasy Gilbert has made a charming and wicked grin inducing story starring a practical woman thrust into an impractically magical world. Thank you Mr Gilbert for a wild ride.
Damn fine ending to a damn fine series. Stuck around long enough to explore its themes in some depth, but didn't give into wallowing. Despite the presence of dragons, never felt like it was dragon its feet. My only regret is no longer getting to see what Sir Warcrimes is cooking up next.
Vandal upgraded to Trans-dimensional Vandal “You mother FUCKER!”
Fantastic and very satisfying conclusion to a great series. Absolutely loved this, but I'm sad that both of this author's big series have now concluded. I hope there's more to look forward to in the future!
There were parts of this book I really enjoyed and in several ways I’m sorry to see the end of the series. However, there were elements in this book that I found quite irritating, especially the gods at the end and the open ended epilogues.
10 great books. Fantastic characters. A story with a beginning, middle and end. Alex Gilbert is a super talented writer whose use of language is exceptional. Highly recommend.
Since I randomly started the first book I couldn't stop until the end. The characters, story, setting, everything, was wonderfullt built. My marathon is complete. Time to sleep.
What a series. I had a blast with this one from start to finish, well written and a fun epic that still manages to surprise you all the way throughout the series.
I started this book on RoyalRoad and found out it released today. This was such a good series. Viv and her friends are well crafted characters that really brought the story to life. I am glad I stumbled across this series for it has made me happy while reading it.
