Toronto Thunder #2

Stealing His Thunder

Rate this book
Can rookie Cam’s sunshine steal veteran Dawson’s thunder?

Kicker Dawson Hall is ready to leave his past in the dust. His last season was catastrophically bad, with the distraction of his divorce and discovering that his father-in-law wasn’t managing his money—he was stealing it, instead.

He signs with the Toronto Thunder, poised for his redemption arc, but he’s grumpy and frustrated he has to undertake one at all. He should be better than this. He is better than this.

The new rookie punter’s hero worship might be just another annoyance, but Cameron Green is sweet and kind and more than a little naïve. He’s a country boy suddenly dumped amongst all the skyscrapers, with no idea of how the real world can chew him up and spit him out. It’s practically Dawson’s duty to mentor him and if Dawson soaks up a little of his sunshine, too?

Well, nobody could blame him for that. Not after the year’s he’s just had.

But when Dawson starts craving more and more of Cam, his crush dangerously teetering into passion kind of territory, he’s forced to not just confront his own past, full of disappointment and distrust, but his future, too.

He wants his redemption, and that perfect vision of a season feels just within reach. But it turns out he doesn’t just want Cam for single season—even if it’s everything he believed he wanted—he wants Cam for every season.

I love the whole vibe of this story universe Beth has built and every book just builds on that feeling.

Cam and Dawson had such a wholesome relationship despite all the baggage and their insistence on being casual friends with benefits.

Their dates were so adorable and they just fell into domesticity so easily. Cam was definitely more clued in to his feelings and the fact they were in a real relationship, which was pretty funny because he's the young rookie!

Dawson was so bloody dense! I feel like if Aidan Flynn is the person pointing out that you're a bad communicator and that you're being stupid about your feelings, something is terribly wrong with your self awareness 😂😂

I loved the way these two hyped each other up and supported each other no matter what.

That said, I am stupidly excited to get Nate and Ramsey's book next!! It's one of my most anticipated releases of 2026 and I've been dying to get Ramsey's story since he appeared in the first book for the Portland Evergreens series. The set up between Nate and Ramsey in this book had me wanting to grab the popcorn and settle in for the delightful drama that I can feel coming 😂

Another cracking entry in this latest series from Beth.

I loved that this was, in the main, a fairly low angst romance and that the relationship itself had zero messing around other than the odd tension caused by inexperience rather than miscommunication.

Dawson's been through a lot and it's perfectly understandable why he's cautious to label either what he's doing, or what he's feeling, for the young rookie who's shoring him up and breaking all his defences.

Cam's a real sweetheart with a little bit of hero worship, but I never felt like his feelings for the older guy on his team wasn't genuine.

It's not a huge age gap and while Cam's only 22, he's definitely got a mature head on his shoulders. His inexperience with relationships couples nicely with Dawson being burned by his ex wife and her father to create the necessary tension points in the story.

Loved all the interactions with the rest of the Thunder guys, especially Aiden and Levi, loved Cam's dad Shane, and the Special Teams coach Marty.

Now I'm just holding in my excitement at finally getting Ramsey's story, especially as it's with the Thunder's Nate Bishop 😁

I love an age gap sports romance and Beth Bolden gives us a great one - the rookie and the veteran... opposites, teammates becoming friends and then more. This was a lovely, fairly low angst story that rather than steal anyone's thunder actually brought Dawson back to the game he loved and really gels the love story between Cam and Dawson. I am also loving the Torontoness of it all!

I am loving this universe and can't wait for book 3!

5 stars for the narration, 3 for the story

Stealing His Thunder is book two in Beth Bolden’s latest series featuring the guys who play for the Toronto Thunder football team. We met the protagonists – Dawson Hall and Cameron Green – in book one, and both are fairly new to the team, kicker Dawson having been unceremoniously traded by his previous team, punter Cam being the team’s newest recruit.

Dawson has had a really crappy time of it lately. His marriage broke down a while back and during the course of the divorce proceedings, he discovered that his father-in-law had been stealing from him – and others – and he is now involved in a lawsuit to bring a prosecution for the thefts. Unsurprisingly, all of this had a detrimental effect on his mental state and on his performance on the field, which lead to his being dumped by his team – and even though his divorce has gone through and he’s been signed by the Thunder, he’s struggling to find his form and believes he’s playing like shit.

Rookie Cam Green is sweet, kind and maybe just a little naïve, a country boy suddenly transposed to the big city, and not really coping all that well with it. A frightening experience on the street after a night out has him wary of venturing outside his apartment other than for practices and games, which makes him feel stupid – a twenty-two-year-old pro football player scared to leave his apartment is ridiculous, and he can’t bring himself to tell anyone about it or ask for help - even his dad, with whom Cam is very close.

It’s clear early on that Cam has a crush on Dawson, but he knows it can’t go anywhere, so he concentrates on doing a good job and on trying to help the older man, who is obviously too up in his head, to realise that he’s not playing as poorly as he thinks he is. Dawson is charmed by Cam’s good-natured earnestness and definitely attracted to him, but thinks he’s too much of a mess to be with anyone right now, so he pushes the attraction aside and tries to focus on doing his job. But when he realises that no-one is really looking out for the newbie, showing him around or just making sure he’s doing okay – he feels guilty, and even moreso when he realises that he should have been the one to do those things (they live in the same building after all) and decides to make up for it.

Stealing His Thunder is a pretty low-angst story, with all the conflict coming from outside elements (Cam’s nervousness about going out, the situation with Dawson’s father-in-law), which, are, I’m sad to say, more interesting than the romance itself. Cam is a sweetheart and Dawson is a bit of a grump - suffering a crisis of confidence will probably do that to a guy! – and I liked that Cam is the more switched-on to what is happening between them than Dawson is and is the first to realise that what they’re doing left ‘casual’ in the rear-view mirror from pretty much the first time they sleep together. I liked them, but the characterisation is pretty simplistic, and the romance is fairly ordinary, with nothing to make it stand out from the hundreds of other similar romances I’ve read/listened to over the years. The author also uses this book to introduce some more set-up for the long-awaited story for Ramsey Andresen (terror of the Portland Evergreens but now on the long-term injured list from the NHL team he plays for) which is coming in the next book,Hell or High Water. I was, frankly, more interested in this than in the central romance. And returning to another complaint I’ve made regularly, the book is way too long for the amount of actual plot it contains and it could easily have worked as a novella.

Darcy Stark is one of my favourite narrators, and is the main reason I made it to the end of Stealing His Thunder. But even his performance – which is well-characterised, clearly differentiated and well-paced – couldn’t disguise the essential flimsiness of the story or the blandness of the romance.

I normally enjoy Beth Bolden’s sports romances, so I hope this one is just a glitch and that there’ll be a return to form for book three. I’ll be back for that – it’s about time Ramsey got his happy ending, and I’m looking forward to watching him have to work for it!

STEALING HIS THUNDER
By BETH BOLDEN
⭐️⭐️⭐️.75

I received an E-book ARC edition of this novel from Neon Rainbow ARC Reviews in exchange for an honest review. It is Available NOW on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.
www.amazon.com/B0FJH68ZR9

This is a 360-page Medium Paced, Grumpy/Sunshine, Hurt/Comfort, Age Gap, Football Teammates MM Romance. This is the second book in the Toronto Thunder Series and is part of Beth Bolden’s Sports Extended Universe.

Written in 3rd person POV, this novel takes place in the same football season as book 1. After a horrible and devastating season, Dawson is dropped from the team as the star kicker, who has been loyal to since the beginning of his career. To make matters worse, his personal life is in shambles after a divorce and his ex-father-in-law stealing money from him. Starting over with a new team and everything piling up on him crushed his soul in such a way that the storm clouds within him won’t produce thunder anymore. Cameron is the rookie punter on the team who has a strong head on his shoulders, until the moment he realizes how alone he is and the danger it can come with in a new city with no close support system. When Dawson is pushed in Cameron’s direction, not only as a mentor like he should have been doing all along, but also as a needed distraction from his clouded mind, he finds that Cameron is struggling too and together they could be less alone.

This was a good story to show the struggles and pressures of not only the NFL, but your personal life and how they affect each other to make the weight on a person’s shoulders heavier than it should be. Dawson’s individual plot line about his lawsuit was teased in book one to draw you into the story in book two, however it is used as a depression symptom to the main story, just like Cameron’s anxiety about being in such a big city is used as a symptom to the plot. Even though I would have loved Beth Bolden to have leaned heavier into both of these more to help differentiate from her other book Rough Contact in the Riptide Series about two kickers and book one of this series with the whole ‘it’s just hooking up’ aspect, but she authentically showed how both mental conditions can trick the mind and change the course of your trajectory, if you don’t fight against it.

The chemistry of the characters is striking! The pining between the two creates this static electricity that makes your hair stand on ends. The minute they cave to their desires without the thought of that “This is a bad idea,” the lightning they create would make the most beautiful glass out of sand. The spice was great, with fun ‘I can’t control myself around you’ vibes. 4/5 🌶. With how they are together, it was a miracle one wasn’t more Marked for everyone to see and that they could keep their distance in the locker room. Even the non-spicy moments, ones that show Cameron’s old soul, and Dawson’s caring and protective gestures. They are both struggling in their own way but the support they give each other at the same time makes them so strong for an Age Gap romance. Cameron ‘worships’ Dawson and constantly pep talks him up to help raise his confidence while Dawson shows city life can be a safe life.

The Ensemble consisted of minimal characters within Dawson’s lawsuit and the teammates we met from book one. Can’t have a football romance without a football team. This time around Nate and Ramsey’s Pigtail pulling was Front & Center, since their book is next in the series. I am curious to see how it all plays out since Nate is so mysteriously aggressive with his opinion of Ramsey. Their gameplay was mostly from the sideline POV since both the MCs are on Special Teams and aren’t on the field much. It was really non-existent until near the end of the novel because the games were used as emotional content for character development. The game at the end was exciting and you won’t feel like you’re left out just because you are not on the field. We got some good practice content with good grueling routines not only that wore down our MC but will exhaust the reader too. Dawson feels like he has much to prove, to show everyone that he isn’t the f*ck up he was the season before. The only other ensemble character that really mattered this time around was Cameron’s dad, who lives in the Midwest. His support for his son, Career and Sexuality, is higher than cumulonimbus clouds. Their relationship is so much fun to read and is something all dads should aspire to be. Even the awkward & funny moments are supportive moments.

This novel was a great example of how someone’s mentality diminishes when they get burned in life enough times. It’s hard to trust, not only others again, but yourself. It is a struggle that is so common nowadays. Beth Bolden uses internal dialogue so well to realistically show someone’s thoughts, to the point of annoyance. However, as someone with so much internal thoughts myself, I see it as a creative choice to show how annoying and irritating it can be for the person going through it. I applaud the author for her views on these topics. And I think she balanced it well enough where it doesn’t overwhelm the romance of the story. It is a great read if you love to see support systems grow and become stronger than they were and while the individual learns to thrive and love again.

💜Happy Reading 🫶

This is the 2nd book in the Thunder world, however we have met a lot of the characters in previous Beth Bolden series, so it is like going home to visit family.

Can the rook tame the veteran kicker? Yes. Yes he can.

Cam and Dawson are so much fun and so adorable. Hero worship turning in to more? Yes please! Their interactions are so believeable, you could imagine yourself on the sideline listening in on their conversations.

I really liked the teammates, their comraderie, their banter and sh!t talking lol

I was also really happy to see more of Aidan and Levi and that their relationship is still going so strong.

I need more Toronto Thunder in my life

Finally we get to read Dawson's story and it was really good. A great pairing with Cam, who to be honest only feels younger because he is having all these new to him city experiences and not because of his age. Kudos for the restaurant experiences which as a foodie I loved reading about.
I liked how Cam's anxiety was portrayed as I suffer from similar when in a new place and the emotions and feelings were so much like mine.
Glad Dawson could finally put his divorce and thieving ex-father-in-law behind, even if it does come at a price. Trusting is never easy and we can see him struggle to overcome this but so glad he opened up to Cam and was able to move on.
A bit of a weird reasoning from Cam about keeping his dad away from Dawson at one point but I guess it all tallies with how thoughtful Cam is throughout the whole book.
Looking forward to Nate and Ramsey's story as very intrigued about them so far.

A lovely addition to the series, this romance was right up my street, especially since I adore both the grumpy/sunshine, and age gap tropes. I just love it. I loved seeing the relationship between the MCs develops, seeing how the younger Cam gradually influenced Dawson was truly adorable. As a couple, they really made me smile, especially Dawson, who is so self deprecating. I truly felt for him, between a nasty divorce and his ex father in law’s financial betrayal, he's truly hit an emotional rock bottom. Cam, a veritable ray of sunshine, (with a bit of an edge),serves as the perfect counterpart to Dawson’s grumpiness.
One of the things I like so much about the story, is that it's such a low angst read, which is really refreshing. (I've read a few 'heavy' books of late). I also enjoy the way in which the two guys communicate with one another, no misunderstandings, which again is quite refreshing. Dawson's self confidence really has taken a hit, both professionally and emotionally, and Cam (being wise beyond his years), helps Dawson overcome his problems. In fact they very much had a mutual support system going on. Also, the secondary characters add so much to the story, from Dawson’s teammates looking out for him, to the heartwarming way Cam’s dad supports his son. It is also wonderful to see Dawson’s adorable dynamic with Aiden (from the first book of the series).
Beth handles the age gap beautifully, watching Cam and Dawson learn from one another is one of my favourite aspects of the story. So well written , and such a romantic tale full of emotion and understanding. I cannot, for REASONS, wait for the next book! Thank you for the ARC Beth, another cracking read.

A Special Love

Dee’s Grade: A

Dawson and Cam are at two different places in life. They need each other all the same. Dawson is going through a dark time. Cam enters his life and brings the light. Cam is starting a football career and is small town boy in the big city. He finds safety in Dawson’s presence. This sweet sports romance is a good read.

I really liked the progress of Cam and Dawson’s relationship. Cam really handled Dawson with kid gloves and let him set the pace and respected Dawson’s traumatic past. They were really sweet together. 🥹

Stealing His Thunder is the second book in the Toronto Thunder series and could be read as a standalone.

Dawson is a thirty-two year old kicker who’s had a really tough time with his divorce, his father-in-law stealing from him and being traded. Understandably, he’s feeling jaded.

Cameron is the rookie punter and is struggling to adjust to big city life. I love his dad, he made me chuckle a few times.

I was eagerly devouring every little interaction between Daws and Cam. Beth Bolden always writes chemistry (and jealousy) so well, I think I had stars in my eyes. I did want to see a bit more romance in this one though, I felt like the book ended just when it started to get good.

I did really like Daws confidence growing in his football abilities.

I live for all the team interactions and I’m glad to see my predictions coming true!! Also so pleased to see Aidan and Levi so happy, I wouldn’t have complained if I saw more of them. Words cannot describe how excited I am for the next book!

Dawson has had a tough few years. Last year in particular was the worst because he learned that his ex-father-in-law was stealing a lot of money from him (and others) while Dawson was distracted with his divorce. Add in the fact that he had a bad year of playing football meant that his team was quick to kick him out. Lucky for him though, Toronto wanted him. So here he is, starting fresh but still having a bit of trouble getting out of his own head and letting others in. Good thing he has some good people around him to knock some sense into him. Specifically when it comes to the rookie, Cam. Someone he should have been looking out for but has yet to do so. But another bit of luck for him that Cam is probably the sweetest and most understanding guy. Who also happens to have a bit of a crush on Dawson with a side of some hero worship. And turns out, spending time with Cam is something Dawson didn’t realize he needed. Cam opens his eyes to what could be the best thing that ever happened to him if he lets himself have it. Cam’s adjustment to Toronto hasn’t been easy. He is struggling with a new place more than he wants to admit. But when Dawson finally takes notice of him, he never imagined that Dawson would be looking back at him with more than just friends in mind. Their relationship may simply be called two friends with benefits, but Cam knows deep down it is more. And if he is patient enough, Dawson will see that too. Well these two were very cute. I loved how sweet and patient Cam was. He was perfect for Dawson in so many ways and knew that if he waited and just continued to be there for Dawson, that this thing between them could be so much more. It was also fun to watch how oblivious Dawson was. Everyone around him calling him out, but he refused to really open his eyes. Truthfully, he needed to come to it on his own. ButI really loved their story. I also loved our peek at what is definitely going to be the next book! I’m very much looking forward to see how Ramsey and Nate get together. Those two have enemies to lovers written all over them and I can’t wait to see how it comes together. Loving this series so far! Can’t wait for more!

Dawson Hall is just trying to get his career on track after his life imploded and he was let down by the people he trusted most. He is bitter, grumpy, tired, and feeling off-kilter. His self-worth and belief in his skills took a hit. He is so focused on himself and his worries about his game and new team that he is not paying enough attention to his rookie.

Cameron Greene is his new holder, punter rookie. He is ten years younger, naive, lonely, and nervous about being new in a big city. He has a healthy case of hero worship for Dawson and is one of the few teammates who gets into his personal space.

Cameron is cute, funny, and positive. And his personality and some targeted advice from a team member and coach make Dawson take more notice and begin to support his rookie more.

And along the way to becoming better teammates, they develop a new friendship, a sense of campanionship that leads to flirting and finally a friends-with-bennies situation. I loved seeing them develop a rapport, trust, self-worth, and enjoy life more fully. Dawson is snarky, thoughtful, and protective, but is still dealing with the repercussions of his past but having support is a game changer.

This is a bad idea turned really good one, veteran-rookie, grumpy-sunshine, secret friends-with-benefits, teammate romance about hope, trust, redemption, and found family. I loved these two together and getting more with the other guys. I am so excited for the next book with a football and hockey crossover.

MY OPINION: This is the second book in the series. We are in the world of professional football, where queer athletes are not looked at sideways. That in itself makes this a solid series. I know reality, but sometimes I just like it when an organization just doesn’t care about a person's identity when it comes to their ability on the field.

The focus is on the special teams players, the punter, and the kicker. I knew nothing about either of these positions, and there is plenty of football in the story, even though it is focused on this special area of the game.

After being on a team he loved for his entire career, he had a tough season and they cut him. Luckily? He found a new team. At the same time he was joined by an actual rookie of the game. When the season starts Dawson is in his head, ignoring everyone, and generally trying to get his life back together. This meant he also pulled away from the team, including the rookie who was part of his individual unit.

Cameron thought Dawson was amazing. He hero-worshiped the man as a player and, of course, thought he was hot. There were fantasies, sure, but he knew that nothing would happen. Until one day, Dawson actually noticed him, and somewhere they found a friendship. But more than that they needed each other. Sure, they both thought scratching that itch was a good idea, and why not hang out, why not eat dinner together, why not be best friends?

They were dating, but neither of them realized it. Feelings grow slowly and steadily with them. Everyone sees it, but acknowledging the love between them is hard. This is a great story of two men who find the person who completes them. They overcome their worries and lean into the feeling. There are some solid subplots about getting better at their sport and an ex-family member.

Overall, I liked the book, and the two MCs are wonderful. I am a Beth Bolden fan and loved this book like many of her others. More than 300 pages, it’s still an easy read where you have plenty of meat throughout. I look forward to the next story in the series.

After back to back betrayals, Dawson needed some sunshine in his life, and that's exactly what rookie punter Cam delivered. Their romance was sweet, steamy, and surprisingly cozy after just a few short days together. I don't even think Cam and Dawson realized that they skipped straight from awkward getting-to-know-yous to sleeping in the same bed most nights, but I was thrilled by how warm and happy they were together. Cam was struggling with being in a big city after growing up in a small town, but with Dawson by his side he grew more confident in going out and trying new things. Dawson was dealing with the aftermath of his ex-father-in-law's shady dealings, and I was really proud of him for bouncing back and not letting it continue to mess with his head or his game-time performance. Cam's support was a big part of what allowed Dawson to move on, and it wasn't easy for him to achieve that mental clarity. Dawson definitely had a tendency to beat himself up for things that were out of his control, and it took time and effort (and some of Cam's excellent pep talks) for him to find a healthier headspace. I really enjoyed following along with the first several games of the season, seeing the highs and lows of Cam's punts and Dawson's kicks and watching the team unify around a common goal. Aiden proved to be an excellent friend in this book, even if he is still a control freak, and his nudges were what helped Dawson open his eyes and see that happiness was right in front of him if he was brave enough to reach for it. When Cam's father Shane unexpectedly showed up, it could have been a disaster, but instead he served as the final catalyst for Dawson and Cam to realize they were head over heels in love and ready to stop pretending things were casual. I adored the HEA Beth Bolden crafted for these two and can't wait to see the next Toronto Thunder player meet their perfect match!

Dawson and Cam are perfect (an audio review)

I was super excited to see Beth had released a new Toronto Thunder book! I used to live in Toronto and always love revisiting my old stomping ground (hello grad school). I also LOVED the discussion of how to pronounce Toronto. A debate my family has engaged in for years. I love this series because it highlights all the best of an accepting sports team. Football players are gay. That’s just a thing. And they’re out. That’s just a thing. That’s the way it should be. Alas, that’s not the world we live in.

Okay, this book! Dawson’s had a rough go of it. Divorce AND discovering his father-in-law stole all his savings. A few missed kicks, and his old team sent him packing. Thank God Coach Marty and the Toronto Thunder were happy to sign him (with the help of a friend as well). He’s in Toronto and just hoping his personal life distractions don’t affect him on the field. He’s really hard on himself – I can relate. For him, though, Cam is a distraction he can’t afford.

Cam. Lovely Cam. I just see him as a big teddy bear. Struggling to adapt to the big city that threatens to eat him up. He wants to be the best punter and he wants to do whatever he can to support Dawson. When Dawson realizes Cam’s hiding in his apartment when he’s not on the field, he feels it’s his responsibility to draw his punter out of his shell.

Well, you can imagine how that goes. They’re ‘just hooking up’. Until they’re not.

I love the cast of characters around these two. Especially Aidan and Levi from book 1. And characters who will get their own HEAs in future books! I also have to say I adored Cam’s dad, Shane. Just a wonderful guy – the person we would all wish our father to be.

So great book with more to come!

Kudos to Darcy Stark – I adore him and his narration is always great. He and Beth are fantastic together.

This is a solid addition to the football series with a grumpy/sunshine thrope and fairly low angst/drama.

While this couple has its own HEA, I think it's better reading the books in order to really get the most of the team's relationship.

Dawson is a mess, a divorce, his father-in-law stealing from him and being dumped by his team all means his confidence in anything is virtually non existing. He doesn't trust his judgement for love and his abilities anymore.

Cam is the rookie working with him but having his own issues, plonked from small town Montana into big city Toronto is causing anxiety and with Dawson's head in the sand, noone realises that he is not getting any support.

I like how they are forced to be more interacting outside the training, starting a slow friendship. They are both over their heads about each other but just can't seem to see it at first. Cam is catching up faster and I love how he is steadly supporting and encouraging Dawson to get his confident back.

They are a cute couple with plenty of chemistry. There is spice but also just building a proper foundation.

Dawson is getting his home truth from several sides before he realises what everyone else already sees.

The team is again providing plenty of good secondary characters with Aiden being his usual overly invested in everyone's life. There are plenty of hints about the next couple but no real idea what their problems are.

It's quite technical on the football, I am in the UK and have no idea about football so I was left scrating my head a bit too often and that's the reason for the 4* only. Some glossary would be helpfu; for the non-US readers.

Place kicker Dawson Hall has been dealing poorly with a number of setbacks: his divorce from a wife who cheated o him; theft of his money by his ex-father-in-law; and his perceived bad season with the Baltimore Ravens that resulted from these. He has a chance to show his stuff after signing with the Toronto Thunder, but he’s still dealing with the hangover from the past season. This has him ignoring his teammates, including rookie Cameron Greene. The latter isn’t leaving his apartment because of an incident that almost happened. Dawson’s longtime friend, QB Aiden, kicks him out of his funk. He runs into Cameron in the building pool and they strike up a conversation. Cam has been idol worshipping Daws forever and happily accepts a dinner with him. A while later, they are inseparable.

It takes a great effort by Dawson to overcome his problems. Further, he has to overcome some setbacks as well. The difficulties affect his relationship with Cam, and he struggles in dealing with them. The author handles these battles in a tasteful fashion, with Cam giving strong support. The book is an archetypal grumpy/sunshine trope, one that I really enjoy. Aiden from the previous chapter is in this book a lot and continues his interfering big brother act, kept in check by his boyfriend Levi. The rest of the team members also contribute to plot development and provide a certain degree of comic relief. While not too many other NFL teams appear, I was glad to see that the only fictitious one was the Toronto Thunder, but the others all had their real names, making it easier to follow.

Another good book from the author.

If you love grumpy/sunshine and a slow burn then Stealing His Thunder is right up your alley.

Dawson has been lost since his divorce, finding out his father-in-law stealing from him and moving teams. He's been keeping mostly by himself, not building any close relationships with his teammates. And most definitely far away from any romantic relationships, having lost all trust in people.

Cam is a real sunshiny person who's got his own insecurities but always tries to see the best in people and life. He's got a close band with his father who's the same sweetheart as his son. Being in a new town and team, he's got some problems adjusting and eventually finds a new friend in Dawson once the latter realises how tough things have been on Cam.

Despite the age gap both men develop a nice friendship that turns into a deeper relationship the more time they spent together. It's so sweet to see how both men evolve into their relationship without even calling it that. I loved how Cam, who's always had a bit of crush on Dawson was super patient. Letting him take his time to come to the realisation that the band they have isn't just friendship but goes a lot deeper than he thought. I loved how Dawson was so oblivious, even his teammates saw what was going on between both him and Cam.

The story has its sweet moments, some hilarious times with Aiden and Levi and the rest of the team, Cam's father was such a darling. Plus the tension between Ramsey and Nate is seriously ramping up. I'm so pleased to know that their story will be next.

Cameron & Dawson

I absolutely loved these two guys—their dynamic, their chemistry, from the very first moment to the very last. Their grumpy/sunshine pairing fit their story perfectly. Dawson has been through so much, and somehow it was exactly Cam’s brightness that he truly needed.

I really loved that we got to see how their feelings for each other developed from both of their POVs, and how effortlessly that mutual admiration turned into something else—something stronger. I adored the fact that even though Cameron was the one who realized first that he was in love and wanted more, he never pushed Dawson into anything. Instead, he waited and allowed Daws to get there at his own pace. And when Dawson finally does get there, when he realizes that they’ve essentially been dating for months already—wow, that was fantastic.

Cam’s dad, Shane, was wonderful, just like the rest of the team, and the author beautifully showed how much of an impact it can have on a person’s life to have an amazing support system behind them—friends, teammates—and how that support can help someone face their fears, just like Daws did.

I’m a huge fan of Beth Bolden’s worldbuilding and her side characters, and I have to say this because I can’t keep it to myself: ever since the first book in the Portland Evergreens series, I’ve been waiting for Ramsey to get his own story—and finally, finally, we’re getting closer, and I couldn’t be more excited 🤩

The ARC of this book was provided by Neon Rainbow ARC Reviews, and this is my honest opinion.

I thought nothing could beat Perfect Storm (the first book in the series), but Daws and Cam completely stole my heart. Their story is a wonderful journey of falling in love, which we follow as they stroll through Toronto together, test out new restaurants and cuisines Cam has never tried, or simply lounge comfortably on the sofa watching a brainless action movie. All of this is set against a backdrop of training sessions, games, the fear of settling into a new city, and trying to resolve a difficult situation that echoes a painful past.
Cam is a wonderful ray of sunshine, always looking on the bright side, trying to find his way in a new city and show the man he adores that life can still surprise him in the best ways. Despite the age gap (Cam is 10 years younger), he isn't portrayed as a naive small-town boy—which is great—but rather as a 'sunshine' kind of hero who initially struggles with some insecurities and finding his footing in a new place. Daws helps him through it, while Cam helps Dawson face his own demons. They complement each other beautifully, and it was truly a joy to dive into this story.
The author continues to show how incredibly well she blends sports elements with romance, describing the guys' work and the technical aspects of the game in a way that makes it impossible not to stay engaged and curious about the sport itself. This is a perfect example of why I love sports romances so much. This series has exceeded my expectations, and I can’t wait for the third book, where a football player meets a hockey player.

New in town rookie Cam and new to the team Dawson work together, but Dawson is buried under so much that life has thrown at him he doesn’t help Cam become part of the team.

When others give him a nudge he realizes his mistake and apologizes to Cam, offering to hang out more. Cam’s main struggle is being in a big city and having a bad experience when he runs across some tough guys when he’s alone and doesn’t know to be more aware.

He shares this with Daws, and they go out together so Cam can build his confidence and enjoy himself exploring a new lifestyle. They also live in the same building and end up together a lot.

As Daws works through his feelings about his divorce and his ex father in law stealing money from him, Cam supports him and gives him good advice about following his instincts.

Dawson also improves his game, which he lost track of last season and which resulted in him coming to Toronto. Their attraction leads to agreeing to hook up, but from the beginning Dawson treats Cam like a boyfriend.

It’s no surprise that they end up dating and falling in love, and Dawson gets his game back, and more importantly a guy he can trust and love he can have for the rest of his life.

This was a good story because it starts with Dawson doubting everything and everyone, including himself, until Cam comes along. Cam’s innocence means he can learn from Dawson, but he’s wise in ways that help Dawson gain clarity and build hope again.

I received this ARC for free and am happy to provide my honest review with thanks.

When life makes you better, not bitter...

Low angst
Age gap
Rookie & Seasoned player
Sunshine vs Grump
Nice, Solid Guys

I don't know why I was so surprised by this book- maybe it's because I already have my Favorite Books from Beth and wasn't expecting this to launch its way to the top of that list. But it did. This book has the perfect balance of romance, character growth, and football. I didn't think anything could top my love for the Piranhas players but the guys from the Thunder might make me a believer.

Cam and Dawson are a great combination of hope and fear, slowly fighting personal demons rather than feelings and getting where they need to be without sacrificing any parts of who they are. I love when someone rises from the ashes and figures out their crap without stepping on anyone in the process. Dawson is in a pretty low place when we meet him and I wasn't sure Cam could pull him up without some sort of fallout, but Dawson proved me so wrong. The way he opens himself to Cam's sunshine and lets his heart lead him even as his head is three steps behind had me falling in love with him. And Cam's patience as he let Dawson figure things out was unwaivering, the perfect counterweight to Dawson's hesitation. I was so ready for their HEA!

I have to add I loved watching the games from Dawson's POV. The only part of this book I found unbelievable was the Cowboy's defense. #GoBirds

I really loved this book. For Dawson Hall, NFL kicker, the past year has been a disaster. His now ex-wife cheated on him, his former father in law embezzled his money, and his last team cut him because of one bad season. He is now with the Toronto Thunder and just wants to have a good year with the team. Cameron Green is the new rookie punter from a small town in Montana and is apprehensive in such a big city and also is a Dawson Hal fan. the kicking coach and his quarterback remind Dawson that he isn't doing his job as a veteran NFL player by ignoring the rookie and not making sure that he is okay. Once they start hanging out, Dawson realizes how easy it is to be with Cameron and what a genuinely good person he is and that he also finds him extremely attractive. I really liked how supportive and understanding Cameron was to what Dawson went thru the past year or so and how patient he was. He believed in Dawson and his ability as a kicker even when Dawson doubted himself. This book is about learning to face your past and obtain justice so that you can move on with your life and also about trusting and having confidence in yourself. I also enjoyed how once Dawson realized the depth of his feelings for Cameron that he didn't let old hurts and fear hold him back from trusting in Cameron. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

Overall 5 STAR
Performance 5 STAR
Story 4.5 STAR

This is a new to me author and narrator and I am looking forward to listening to more from both of them. I was entertained from beginning to end and I didn’t want the story to end. Beth has created a wonderful world with a great cast of characters. So many sport romances don’t actually talk about the sport portrayed but one of the things that I like with this story is that we are taken onto the field of the practices and games with Dawson, Cameron and the Toronto Thunders.

The found family aspect of the Toronto Thunders team is what every athlete hopes their experience will be like. It is one of the reasons I love sports romances so much. I didn’t play professionally but I did play on sports teams when I was young and was not as lucky. My hope is that everyone can find their found family.

I absolutely love the relationship Cam has with his dad. Do people actually have this strong of relationship with their parents / children? I am always curious when I read about them or see them in movies. I also loved Aidan’s friendship with Dawson and his teammates. He goes that extra mile for anyone that he considers a member of his family.

I am looking forward to more from the Toronto Thunders series and from Beth Bolden and Darcy Stark.

*hurt / comfort
*found family
*age gap
*grumpy sunshine

This is the 2nd book in the Toronto Thunder series, and while it can be read as a stand alone, there's enough Aiden (from book#1) in here, that your reading experience would be enhanced by reading the first book first.

This time it's Dawson's turn. He's had an awful time, with his divorce, his father-in-law stealing his money, and his being 'fired' from his previous team because his personal problems got in the way of his kicking. Cameron, rookie punter, comes to the NFL from a small town and is having issues adjusting to big city life. It takes a bit for Dawson to realize that Cam needs help adjusting, and to start to come out of his depression over his circumstances. Cam and Dawson fall for each other pretty quickly after that, and it's a slow, sweet journey to an HEA.

There's lots of football, Cam's dad comes to town, and the court case against Dawson's father-in-law continues. There's plenty of 'found family' among the teammates, and there's a 10-year age gap between Cam & Dawson.

Really sweet romance, low angst in the romance, but plenty of angst in Dawson's personal life dealing with the court case. Plenty of spice. Loved this a lot, looking forward to the next one.

Throughout Perfect Storm, you could see how Cameron reacted with Dawson ,that look that said Dawson had hung the moon, it was a shame that Dawson had bigger issues on his plate, a recent divorce and finding out his now ex father in law had stolen most of his money, being moved to a new team, Dawson was not in the right headspace to notice Cameron.
Cam and Dawson was great together, as both came from small towns, Dawson knew what Cam was going through. Cam had an old soul about him and at times it was him making Dawson see sense. The times they spent together, Dawson encouraging Cam to try new things, the none dates that were dates and their Friends with Benefits that were so much more. I soaked it up.
Laughing at Aiden who now classes himself as a romance guru and learning more about the team. I was getting excited when more and more of the teams' personalities were revealed and I was working out the couples. Then the cherry on the cake, the time when the next story was announced the character who's story I have been waiting for, for 7 books. The disappointment to read it was coming in Spring 2026 and the happiness when I realised is was 2026. In my defence I was reading this into the night as I could not put it down. I am counting down the days

STEALING HIS THUNDER is the second book in the Toronto Thunder series.

What to expect:

🏈Grumpy/Sunshine
🏈Veteran x Rookie
🏈Opposites Attract
🏈Age Gap
🏈Redemption arc

Kicker Dawson Hall has had a horrible time with now ex-wife who cheated, his ex father-in-law who stole from him and his team they gave up on him when he had a lot going on. He wants to put it all behind him and move on with his new team the Toronto Thunder. The last thing he wants to do is take the rookie punter under his wing. But while he was so busy feeling sorry for himself no one was looking out for Cam and it should be his job. When he finally steps up there's something about Cam that just makes it easy for Dawson to be his friend. Yes Cam has a hero worship thing happening for Dawson but it's more than that. Dawson finds himself craving Cam's sunshine more and more.

I really enjoyed Cam and Dawson's story. Dawson was so sure he couldn't let himself love again but Cam brought out every thing good that is in Dawson. They made each other better. Their chemistry was an electric tension that was just always there. I can't wait to see what's next for this series!!

I was given a free copy of this book to read and review by Neon Rainbow.
