END OF STORY ARC OPTIMUS PRIME VS MEGATRON This is it. And the new era of TRANSFORMERS begins with the most shocking ending to ANY comic book this year!
Daniel Warren Johnson is a Chicago-based comic book writer, artist, and illustrator. He's worked on titles for most major publishers, including Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and Image. His current series with Skybound/Image Comics is EXTREMITY, a sci-fi/fantasy title he is writing and drawing, and continues to update his webcomic Space-Mullet in his spare time.
A great conclusion to an absolutely amazing run. The battle was brutal and visceral and there were touching moments sprinkled throughout to give it balance. The final page both wraps up the story and opens the door for what is to come. I am sad that this team is stepping down but they set up a great world and story to build from.
As a single issue, there's a lot to love here. As a series finale to Daniel Warren Johnson's run, I can't help but feel disappointed. Johnson was what drove me to this series in the first place, and the first year of his run was utterly fantastic. I found year two to be a tad overstuffed, and that lack of singular focus definitely hurt this concluding chapter. It feels more like the end of another arc, and while I'm looking forward to Kirkman's take on the title, I was hoping for a more definitive exclamation point at the close of the Johnson era.
The big showdown doesn’t disappoint but it’s the quieter moments at the end that really shine and make this a poignant conclusion. The final page is gorgeous.
Something about this just didn't land, like it had to wrap everything up too quickly. We don't get to see the meat of the Autobot/Decepticon battle, only Prime and Megatron. The Ulchtar scene was nice and I sort of get why shot himself, but still unexpected and off-character. Also what is Omega Supreme doing showing up out of nowhere at the last second and just doing a flyover? And we don't get just one last-second savior but two, which is a bit much. Soundwave gets knocked off a building and that's it for him? And I still don't understand what the significance is between Sparkplug and The Matrix. Again, it's like they had an idea of an ending here but really didn't have the time to work it out in a way that makes sense. Other than making sure to squeeze yet another reference to the movie dialogue instead of coming up with something new.

"You think I am weak. But just because I care for the innocents doesn't mean I can't beat you into submission!
Optimus Prime to Megatron
The issue opens with a massive brawl between Optimus Prime and Megatron, amidst a devastated city landscape. A symphony of destruction, but the printed page carries no sound. The picture of ruined concrete and twisted steel, carnage is all around.
Transformers #24 marks the end of a historic run by Daniel Warren Johnson and Corona's best work in the series, and perhaps, his career.
I have no regrets investing resources following Johnson on this title for two years. Save for one, I was never able to send my fan letter to be answered and printed by Johnson in the comic book's letter column.
Just enough nostalgia to make me smile. It was a wild ride from USA 1 to here, and I didn't like the whole trip but I love what we got. This issue is filled with both action and heart which is what a good heroic comic needs to be. Fantastic. 5 stars without reservation.
This is a well crafted end to the authors run. It has actions d a lot of Heart and still manages to go to few places you don't expect. If your a Transformers fan, especially G1 cartoon, you will enjoy this.
What a ride… put the original soundtrack on while I read this edition, and it was epic! Gutted the comic had a last page as I could have kept reading for ages. Great story. Nostalgia filled emotions right here.
With this ends Daniel Warren Johnson's Transformers run and it was great. I won't be spoiling but I highly recommend you read this. The showdown we were all waiting for.
Sad to see Daniel Warren Johnson's run end but it was epic and will always be remembered. Hopefully, he comes back for a one-shot or makes more bot art in the the future as well.
gah, DWJ truly is the mother fuckin man. this run was fantastic and i am sad to see it end, but damn am i stoked to see what the GOAT is cooking up next
I loved it. I can’t believe Starscream killed himself after he came back to his senses. That was so unexpected. I also loved how Optimus kicked Megatron’s ass.
