An intense gut-punch/grovel story. Canadian grad student Aarohi gets picked up by a guy in a bar for some ONS fun. But not only is the sex terrible, it turns out he's not single, and his boyfriend catches them in the act. Lucian is the (bi) boyfriend, and he lashes out at both his BF and Aarohi, hitting some of her deepest, most vulnerable spots relating to her body image.

Fast forward a year, and Lucian is guest lecturing in Aarohi's grad school program. He hasn't processed or really even acknowledged his response to being cheated on, and he starts pursuing Aarohi with some half-baked idea of getting revenge.

The intense, harsh gut-punch moment comes around the 30% mark, and the grovel lasts for most of the novel. Both MMC and FMC need (and get) therapy. Along with the angst and tears, there's some nearly farcical humor when they end up at the same Indian wedding ceremony, lasting two weeks in the countryside.

Likable MCs and the gut-punch is delicious. The lengthy grovel got a bit wattpaddy, but that's not always a bad thing. A fun read!

(Also, in boxing, someone with a 'glass jaw' is someone who can't take a punch to the chin. I almost didn't check this out because I thought it was going to be about DV for a minute.)

Just...wow

I kept seeing this book mentioned so I finally gave into my fear of missing out and I am so glad I did.

Rohi was an amazing FMC. I loved her so much. She was strong even while she was broken. Lucian, I hated in the beginning. I kept thinking there was absolutely no way he could be redeemed. I know that hurt people hurt people, but that's a reason NOT an excuse. This story wrecked me in all the best, most painful ways, then put me back together.

What I loved even beyond the romance was the view into Rohi's culture. I've seen bits and pieces in other books and online, but i felt fully enveloped in the wedding festivities and I was in love with all of it. I had to look up a bunch of the clothing names so I could fully picture it. So gorgeous. Now I really want to learn more about Indian weddings and music. And I need more stories from this family.

This was so good! Rohi and Lucian met for the first time when he found her in bed with his long-term boyfriend. Angry at the boyfriend and the world, Lucian said some awful things to Rohi, things that stuck with her a year later when they meet again. Lucian remembers her too, and begins a plan of seduction (he is bisexual and no, it isn't fetishized, at least it didn't seem to be to me, which was a nice little representation) initially rooted in revenge, but turns into something more. Unfortunately, he's got baggage, so self-sabotage is his thing and even though he's developed feelings for Rohi, he pulls the trigger on his revenge. (A revenge that he should have realized was misplaced.)

And oooh boy does this grovel ensue.

I became aware of this author through a Facebook "Grovel" group we are both in and she has delivered some seriously good recommendations. So when she announced she'd started to write, of course I was going to pay attention. But honestly, even though the grovel and angst are usually the highlights of a book for me, it was rough seeing what Rohi went through (and eventually what Lucian was doing to himself, and despite being very much the bad guy, he realized he wasn't who he wanted to be, so watching his pain as he worked through it to be a better man was also hard at times, even though he absolutely deserved it), and I had to put this down a few times to give myself a breather.

But my favorite part was the last half of the book, not because of the grovel per se, but because of all the Indian culture. I'm a white girl from Oklahoma. Even though my city does have some districts that are heavy with other cultures, it's mostly food, which I adore, but other than that and glimpses here and there from other books, I haven't gotten the opportunity to see much Indian (or is the correct term "Desi" or "Hindi"? Correct me in the comments if I am using something wrong!) culture first-hand. (I haven't checked out much Bollywood, but given my obsession with musicals, I probably should.) But the way the author wrote Rohi's perfectly imperfect family made me want to learn more about Desi culture. Rohi's cousin's wedding was honestly my favorite part of the book, not just in the way they clearly loved each other through all of the chaos, but also in the way they were so sweet accepting of a now very penitent Lucian.

Also, I totally had a girl-crush on Rohi and her best friend Kashvi -- can't wait until the author finishes Kash's book because girlfriend is brutal and I adored her. It made me really miss having a BFF like that, but in the best way.

One quick warning for anyone who cares (I thought it was a good thing, but a lot of people don't):

Either way my girl crush on AJ Bishop remains and I can't wait to read more from her.

Lost interest once it became about rape by deception. I didn’t understand how the book still had so many pages left and I wasn’t interested enough to stick it through.

If you’re in the mood for some solid grovel between two beautifully flawed people who seriously mess things up before getting it right, this one’s for you.

Aarohi and Lucian felt so real, I half expected them to pop into my DMs with life updates (oh god I wish).

They had me yelling, swooning, laughing, and side-eyeing my Kindle like, “No way you actually just said that.” Grab some tissues, maybe a snack, and settle in. You’re about to feel all the things.

Glass jaw means something different in boxing…

I’m not sure that this is a descriptive title but regardless, this was a highly entertaining story. Lucian is bi but has a boyfriend that he’s in love with. Tim, the boyfriend, goes to a bar and picks up a girl. He says he’s confused and he wants to see if he’s not gay but bi also. But, Lucian walks in on Tim, and it destroys him. He says some pretty nasty things to the girl, and it turns out that Rohi, the girl in question, has had some bad experiences regarding her body.

A year later, Lucian decides he’s going to get revenge on Rohi, but he has completely misdirected his anger…

KU read, and definitely a fantastic read. Highly recommended…

This was redemption for the long haul. There wasn't a quick "sorry" slapped over a mistake. The betrayal was deep and harsh, and we felt it down to our bones. And the forgiveness and second chance didn't come easy. It came with genuine remorse and active change. It came with acceptance that he might not ever get her back, but he was going to make sure she was okay, one way or another. I loved Rohi's family. I loved the Indian culture woven throughout. And I was glad Lucian and Rohi could overcome everything to be together.

This was an emotional rollercoaster but worth it because of the grovel. I’m not quite sure i liked the conflict with the secondary characters though

Unique and well written!

This is my first time reading a book by this author and I look forward to their other releases!

I liked the unique betrayal and the realistic, but still grand, gesture. The characters were interesting and well written.

4.5 ⭐ first of all - brilliant title , it seems like there's a crisis in the title market and I am always looking for books that appeal to me with their title first . second bravo on picking on the topic of dubious consent. it was a well written book , all characters were sensitive , men were men enough to cry. only thing I didnt like was too much of wedding - I am indian and weddings are not my thing so that's a personal no. it went too long in the book for my taste , gave the yjhd vibes which I despised. other than that , job well done

Bishop is a new author to me and I can say that I devoured this read! It is well written, full of angst, betrayal and redemption and had many laugh out loud moments.

I absolutely loved Rohi, she’s such a strong and loving FMC. I enjoyed her standing up for herself and how she didn’t just take Lucian back straight away and made him work for it!! The redemption arc for Lucian was long and slow, he was an extreme arsehole for the first part of the book. He knew how badly he betrayed Rohi and I enjoyed seeing his character development; the growth, healing and redemption to win her back.

I also loved being able to learn more about Indian culture and the wedding festivities. Seeing Rohi, her family and Lucian all together were some of my favourite parts of the book! I highly recommend this read if you are looking for a book to take you through a rollercoaster of a ride 💙

Lucian (32) comes home one night to find his boyfriend, Tim, having a ONS with a woman. Tim says he’s questioning whether he’s bi and he’s confused. Lucian says all kinds of shit about the woman, like she doesn't even look like a woman (boyish figure), etc. He also called her a "homewrecker," even though Tim lied about being single.

A year later, that woman, Aarohi (age?), is sitting in a university lecture, and surprise! Lucian is the guest lecturer. She appears unbothered, but really, she’s freaking out.

He talks to her alone, as teacher-student, but really wants the "closure conversation." It seems to go well, but it really doesn't. He gets mad at whatever she says, but he hides his anger. He thinks she lacks empathy. He forms a revenge plan to date her then break her heart, to show her how it feels.

He sends her flirty texts all week, then they meet in person that weekend for dinner.

At dinner, he tells her he was more focused on Tim than her that night, so he doesn’t only think of her as “the woman Tim cheated with.” (This is a lie, BTW.) He’s doing the guest lecture at the university for the next month, and he’d like to try to become friends during that time. If they really don’t get along, he’ll be leaving anyway, and that will be it.

Over time, he starts to see her as a person and not just “the woman Tim cheated with.” And he likes her a lot. They become an actual couple, Lucian doesn’t go through with any revenge plot, and they continue seeing each other beyond one month.

The big red flag is that he refuses to talk about the night he caught them together. Since their previous closure conversation was all fake on his end, that means they never talked about it honestly. Lucian says he doesn’t need to talk about it. But Aarohi wants to talk about it, and her BFF and her therapist both tell her they should.

One day, out of the blue, Tim walks into the coffee shop where she works, asking for a closure conversation. It’s obvious he’s stalking Lucian and knows Lucian and Aarohi are a couple. She agrees and meets up with Tim at a different place and time, to talk.

Tim apologizes. Aarohi didn’t tell Lucian she was going to meet with Tim, but she wants to tell him about it after. She knows Lucian never wants to talk about this whole topic, so she’s nervous about bringing it up.

Sure enough, when she tells Lucian, he shuts down. He’s mad that Tim reached out Aarohi for “closure” after he blew Lucian’s life up. But he doesn’t tell Aarohi what he’s feeling.

He angrily texts Tim. Tim reveals that one of their friends mentioned Lucian was dating a woman named Aarohi. (Tim still talks to the friend group because Lucian didn’t tell anyone but Liam that Tim cheated.) Once Tim saw Aarohi was the same woman, he took it as a sign that Lucian wasn’t over him. Lucian says regardless of why he’s dating Aarohi, he never wants to reconcile with Tim, so Tim needs to gtfo. Then Tim drops the bomb: He had told Aarohi he was in a relationship and Aarohi slept with him anyway, so Lucian is making a mistake dating her.

This makes Lucian mentally shut down. He goes to a bar, gets drunk, and takes a woman to his apartment in time for Aarohi to arrive and catch them naked in bed. Not in the act of sex, but naked. Lucian tells Aarohi, “This is how it feels.” She just says, “I understand” and quietly walks out. The other woman gets mad that she was used for Lucian’s revenge performance. Lucian realizes he used this woman the same way Tim used Aarohi. And he cheated just like Tim cheated. He runs out after Aarohi and sees her walking down the street crying. She doesn’t lack feelings, she just doesn’t cry in front of people.

Lucian realizes he’s in love with Aarohi after he’s fucked it all up. He decides to finally go to therapy. It’s mostly off page. But we know one issue is, he became an alcoholic during the year after Tim cheated and he can’t regulate his emotions.

While in therapy, he’s texting Aarohi at night. One day she replies that she wants to meet up. She wants to deal with this for good. She asks him for some details, and he confesses to his revenge plan, but that the relationship became “real.” She says it wasn’t real if you changed your mind and completed your revenge. She calls him a rapist by getting her consent with deception. Lucian does a lot of therapy to figure out if he’s a rapist or not (the verdict seems to be yes, he is.)

He was invited by the university to attend her graduation because he did the lecture. He overhears her say something about going back home to India.

So, he goes to Delhi and finds Aarohi going out with her friends and kissing another guy. He doesn't intend to be seen, but she sees him, and they argue, just like he argued with Tim about stalking/trying to make contact. She tells him she's not moving to Delhi permanently, but she’s not going back to Toronto either. She's moving permanently to Vancouver.

So they meet the next morning, and she lets him explain how the cheating wasn’t “revenge,” it was self-sabotage, yadda yadda. Then he drives her back home. The whole family comes out and starts putting luggage in his rental SUV with the chaos of “Home Alone.” Her parents are happy to meet him, because Aarohi didn’t tell anyone he cheated. So now he’s gotten himself invited for a 2-week trip and an invitation to the cousin’s wedding. And this is only halfway through the book. This is so outrageously dumb IDGAF anymore. DNF

Story Ends For Me The Moment Liam Joins In On Forcing Her To Nuance Lucian, Its Gross. And He Did Not Reactively Approach Chrissy That Was Proaction, Toxic Enabler Alan

Alcohol makes cheating harder but men get to pretend that its an aphrodisiac, instead of a fucking sedative, but I guess he flops, but hes still able to touch her so I don't get it, your neuroplastic tissue covers your entire body.

Fuck this.

You can feel something for someone you believe raped you by deception?

Huh.

I mean fall in love with the new shitty ass version of him, fine but feel bad for someone you believe raped you? Forgive Liam for letting him send you food?

Like do you believe it was rape or not?

Is he a rapist or isn't he?

The moment she doesn't compost his gifts, is the moment she ceased to be a person.

Shes a doormat.

For the Unseen, Unloved and utterly Unfucked.

She is able to eat the food.

So evidently he didn't hurt her.

So this book was just her waiting for the right bullshit nuance to justify not blocking his number.

Sad sack of shit.

He is Tim.

He only needs to throw stuff at the problem and the paper bitch folds.

As a Glass Child, his food would be like Ash.

But shes not real, she exists to nuance him.

Shes like every cunt in the call centre, whinging that her husband left her, again, and I have to pretend shes not going to take him back like the pathetic piece of shit she is.

He got to frame himself in his choices, pretend that hurt people hurt people, when no, abusers are just excused and told to excuse their choices how they see fit.

She can touch him after Chrissy.

She's not the same species as me.

His therapy sessions were very like Tony Soprano's, just excuses for his choices.

The Mentally Ill very rarely externalise their desires so the fact he gets to blame his choices on being mentally ill, is annoying.

Trauma internalises impulses.

But thats why I hate Therapists, they give them new vocabulary so they don't have to feel their choices, and speed on to the easy answers.

As soon as Liam shows hes going to support his friend in getting involved in her life, I'm out.

She's open to a cheater IMMEDIATELY.

Update: Yup, still concerned about a cheaters feelings.

When does she get over her concern that a cheater isn't eating?

I want him to suffer and her, HER, to learn that his pain doesn't matter.

But she runs to him like a boomerang as soon as he shows up.

Enabler of Womanisers.

Hes a sexist prick by the way, hurt two women for Tim's choices.

I loath Diana and Alan.

They are both giving him excuses ans affirmation to harrass her.

Sorry "observe her in an environment she controls".....even though he literallly DENIED her the control of boundaries.

Alas, this wasn't about forgiveness, it was excuses.

She took this like a teaching assignment, wanting to forgive him before she ever learnt to forgive herself for trusting him.

His type destroys communities, where he gets to damage shit and still get support, but if she cries once after the initial shock, then its now clear why he cheated.

"i'm sorry that it hurt you." Doormat, Enabler.

Ugh its ok for toxic people to hurt. They are toxic because they werent made to feel hurt, enough.

Wow, could Ruth act like a Therapist and not a Finger Wagger.

Reactive Rape, Puh, fucking Alan can believe shit like that, Reactive Rape.

What.

You don't "react" and plan revenge.

That is a proactive choice.

She isn't acting on him for him to go into a "reactive spiral", thanks for that one, will have a look out for those words for the next Sociopath who went to therapy to get cheat codes.

After giving it a second skim, I'm stunned how much this woman whinges about her boobs.

She doesn't care that he cheated, she immediately cares that its for booooobs.

Lets be real, Booby envy isn't a real illness, its one of the self involved things rich people do to lance themselves, even though no high street shop facilitates breasts at all.

"Oh no, he wants a woman with barely any options for clothes, and not me, systemically facilitated every where I go, but I need to make everything about my fucking boobs."

Seriously. I. Do. Not. Care. About. The. Boobies. Ruth. Should. Have Shook. Her. Thats. Chronic.

Where was Ruth teaching her to Emotionally Shield herself so she can make sure her feelings aren't pressed upon by how he chooses to excuse his behaviour.

first things first: this book is not for everyone (and that's okay). if you're looking for a fun, light-hearted romcom, this isn't it. however, if you're looking for a story that will rip out your heart and (somewhat) stitch it back together, well, this book does just that. i definitely maybe totally cried a few times reading it.

aarohi is a wonderfully relatable character, and she's not perfect, nor is she completely put-together. her emotions, her pain, and her actions are real and raw. my heart hurt for her and i wanted to give her all the happiness in the world. one of my favorite things about the book is her friendship with her best friend, kashvi. they both made me laugh and smile despite some of the heaviness in the book.

lucian is an asshole and there's not denying that some of his actions are cruel. there's a reason behind it, but that doesn't excuse him from what he does. i think the author does a good job of showing his development and . will everyone consider him redeemed? maybe not. everyone has a different threshold of forgiveness. but imo, he did win me over at the end!

just word of warning, this book deals with some heavy topics, including, but not limited to: infidelity, mental health, body image, self-sabotage, and manipulation. if you're sensitive to any of these topics, please be aware. i personally appreciated that the author did not shy away from these, and the intensity of these topics contrasted beautifully with the

anyway, i highly recommend but if you get heavily invested in plots/characters, please make sure you're prepared for the rollercoaster of emotions you'll be going through.

Aarohi aka Rohi aka the baddest b in fiction 💅🏾 She is written as a heart of gold, loving, funny heroine and I fell in love with her spirit. This story is so well written and the author basically takes your feeling, puts them in a washing machine on max speed then magically heals the battered rollercoaster of emotions she put you though. I loved it. I could have bet Lucian, aka Lucifer, lamebrain #1 would never be redeemed but boy was I wrong. I loved seeing him break 🤭 then find his redemption.

I also LOVED LOVED LOVED learning more about Indian culture, wedding culture there and learnt a few words too 😏 been using them to some very deserving peeps.

I can't wait for Liam and Advik's stories 😍

Highly recommend... Bishop will be an autobuy author for me now

I read a lot but I don't review often, only for books that I know I'll re-read and love again.

This is the most satisfying romance I've read this year by far and it gets there without being predictable with how the characters think or how the plot develops. Bishop is such a skilled writer that even when one of the main characters did or said something I wouldn't expect, it made the character seem more real.

I found myself fighting between slowing down to enjoy how it was written and speeding up to find out how a character would react.

Just try it.

This book is an emotional rollercoaster in the best possible way. It made me swoon, cry, and laugh along with the characters. The story is raw and deeply human, filled with real-life battles. Maybe that’s why Aarohi’s heartbreak hit me so hard. And maybe that’s why I found myself connecting to Lucian’s struggles in a way I didn’t expect. What truly brought it all to life, though, was the author’s honest and powerful writing. Every emotion landed. Every character felt alive. I loved every second of it, and I’m counting down the days until book two.

Okay wait. The FMC accuses MMC of using her. But then turns around and does the same to another person whom she knows is pining for her from years? Why? Because she needed to measure her worth in dick? This mentality is okay or even understandable when you are I don't know a teenager? But not someone after mid 20s. They are suppose to be matured more. Apparently they both started working on their issues in therapy. But where the MMC is improving I feel FMC is worsening. I'm DNFing this. This reminded me why I avoid desi romance.

This book is probably going to be one of my top favorites of 2025.

Want an angsty read? Want multiple betrayals and top tier groveling? Want to truly feel a character's heartbreak? Glass Jawed is all that and so much more. ISTG, the way this author writes, you'll get a good look at the deepest part of the MCs' souls, it's so emotionally riveting.

And that MMC POV? It's the most perfect one I've ever read. It's so fricking good.

So read this. Right now. You won't regret it.

Perfect redemption

I thought this book was very well written and flowed. I found it to be heartbreaking and emotional which is always a win in my life. I enjoyed how much the MMC broke down and really worked on himself to make him worthy of the MFC. The MFC even though working on herself wasnt a pushover or doormat and made him work for their second chance. I will definitely be looking forward to reading more from this author
