3 1/2 Stars! ~ Risa's a rising star in the HPD, until a routine visit to a snitch ends in a blood bath with her partner fatally wounded. Now faced with rumours that Risa had been having an affair with her partner, she finds herself under suspicion of murder. Grady's the IA detective put in charge of finding the truth. He knows from the start that Risa didn't murder her partner, and after awhile it becomes apparent that someone may be trying to set her up. After her friends shun her, Risa has no one to turn to and finds herself turning to the man who could end up putting her in prison.

This is a very good read. I felt Risa's pain as she finds her friends pulling back from her. She feels betrayed, and yet finds herself thinking that if in their shoes she'd be pulling back too to protect her career. Grady's fights the conflict of what evidence is showing and what his gut is telling him. And when passion flares between them, their careers are on the line.

Catherine takes five young women under her instruction and teaches them not only the skills they will need to be good cops, but skills they will need to survive in the very male police department. The women become fast friends and stick up for each other, until Catherine is promoted to Police Chief and when one of them is accused of wrong doing in her partner's death on the job.
