Faith Hudson Was Falling In Love With Her Husband! Her marriage was a disaster. Her husband was better off in Boston without her. It had been clear to her then, and it was even clearer now that she'd traveled west and made her home on a Texas ranch. She had no plans of ever returning. But Max Hudson wanted her back. It had taken him three years to find her, and he wasn't going home without her. It was a matter of principle.... Until he realized he was more in love with the woman Faith had become than he ever could have imagined. And that love just might be what Faith had needed all along.
Carolyn Davidson began writing in 1986, knowing absolutely nothing about the craft. Her first three books were rejected by Harlequin.
She met Dixie Browning at a Harlequin dinner in Charleston, South Carolina, and told Dixie she was writing, but that she feared she was too old to begin such an undertaking. Dixie's response spurred Carolyn to pursue her dream. Dixie said, in her own inimitable fashion, "Well, honey, you can't start any younger!" And she was right.
Having spent her life as a wife, mother, grandmother, and working woman, she's privileged to have a career that makes her dreams possible. Writing historical romance gives her the opportunity to travel, to visit all those places where our forefathers staked their claim on this country of ours. And then she goes home and writes their stories, maybe not exactly as they lived them, but as her imagination portrays them.
Carolyn lives in the South, where romance thrives, and where the sun shines almost every day of the year. In fact, some days it is difficult to stay glued to her computer, especially when the birds are singing and the flowers are in full bloom.
She lives not far from the ocean, close to Charleston, South Carolina, one of the most romantic cities in the world. Moreover, time at the beach is easy to come by. Does she enjoy her life? You bet! Harlequin allows her to write the books she loves, and her editor is patient with her quirks and foibles. Her family, though scattered in various states, is supportive, and her husband is a constant source of inspiration.
Good quick read for fans of Harlequin westerns. I like it when couples find their way back into love with one another. Also, I really liked how the heroine was able to grow into her own person during their separation and how sexy the hero found this new aspect to his wife. The mother-in-law wouldn't win any prizes in anyone's view, but at least she was only a minor threat to the relationship.
Carolyn Davidson out-does herself in this unique tale; this couple has been married for 6 years. Because her husband allowed work to be his driving principle, Faith Hudson McDowell left her grand life in Boston to be an ordinary rural farmer in Texas.
Her other problem with her marriage was a cantankerous mother-in-law, who berated Faith constantly (because they lived in the family manor together). When their newborn died, Mrs. McDowell blamed Faith.
Because of her hard-scrabble existence in Texas, Faith learned to be self-sufficient. When Max McDowell finds her, he is shocked by Faith’s independence and competence. Faith is not interested in returning to her trophy-wife existence in Boston.
Max spends weeks with Faith, helping her with farming tasks and trying to woo her back to Boston. He is an impressive figure of a man who is used to getting his way. However, Faith knows what she needs in the relationship and won’t budge.
This is a well-written book that could have turned syrupy but Davidson does not allow it to turn in that direction. My only complaint is how long it took for the story to get moving. I’ve enjoyed each of the books in this series but this one is the best so far. (4.5 stars)
Davidson's Texas 1. A Marriage by Chance (2002) 2. The Texan (2002) 3. Tempting a Texan (2003) 4. Texas Gold (2003) 5. Texas Lawman (2005)
Not your typical western romance. Boston socialite leaves the city and her husband to establish a life of her own out west in Texas. Her businessman husband seeks her out , but she only lets him into her life on her terms. She goes from mantle piece trophy to capable farmer horsewoman. It comes down to power sharing between woman and man without losing themselves in the process.
Another nice read by Carolyn Davidson. This book is a continuation from the previous book. This one is about Faith and Max. We meet Faith as a squatter on Nathaniel ranch. Now she is back as the runaway wife of Max of Boston. This book tells the story of a Faith and Max living on the farm she is in charge of. A very enjoyable book to read.
Sweet, not entirely predictable. Heroine quite a strong capable woman who managed on her own for 3 years before her Bostonian husband finally found her. What I liked: they bought independently of each other decided that they would make the necessary compromises to rekindle their love again.
Some sad aspects were rather glossed over but I think readers of Harlequin Historical Westerns probably know the brand and are not surprised.
I tried and tried to just complete it but I'm at about 60% and I accept that it is impossible to do so at this time. I'm done. Nice enough storyline but it lacks captivation.
