For Thirteen Years He'd Been A Wanderer... Now Con ap Ifan had returned, a tested warrior and a talented bard. But Enid of Glyneira remained unimpressed. No stolen kisses or honeyed promises that faded with the dawn could tempt her to abandon hearth, home and betrothed-not even for the father of her cherished firstborn son! Con wanted Enid more than words could tell. But could he dally with her, now a widow with children, forever? For though she'd always been his heart's melody, his soul's rhythm, he knew the siren song of the wider world might break their passion's bond!
Enid is content to manage her estate with her children on the Welsh borders until her first love Con ap Ifan shows up disguised as a bard on a mission for Empress Maud to bring peace between the English the Welsh border lords. It's been 13 years since they've seen each other and Enid is desperate that Con doesn't discover her secret that she bore a son by him since she's now expecting to marry a Welsh border lord. When Con learns that the lord is expected any day, he decides to stay and wait there to speak to him about him mission and thus giving him time to spend with Enid and her two younger children before he moves on. Unfortunately, love's arrow and Norman aggression wait for no one and Enid and Cop are swept up in events with the truth of her son's birth coming out along the way.
I would have given this book 5 stars which I very rarely do except the ending was very abrupt, very abrupt. The rest of the story flowed and felt well-developed but the ending was rushed and then just stopped.
