LEO HE KIDNAPPED ME TO PUNISH ME.Joke's on him—I'm into that.
Dante Volkov is a monster wrapped in a bespoke suit. The Don of the Volkov crime family. A man whose control is absolute. And my new captor.
He dragged me into his basement to break me. He wants fear? I’ll give him devotion. He wants to be my tormentor? I’m making him my favorite addiction.
What Dante doesn't realize is that I've been waiting for a man like him my entire life. A man whose cruelty feels like a caress. Every threat he whispers just makes me want to get on my knees.
There's an old rule about hunting once you catch one, it will haunt you forever. He thinks he’s the one in control. But I plan on becoming the filthy nightmare he can never escape.
Run while you can, Dante. The ghost is home.

DNF after I think four chapters. It’s dark that’s not the issue. The issue is the ridiculous monologue and prattling on about code. I’m a programmer by trade and while I agree it can be tedious, the protagonist leans into that a bit much. Also I really don’t need to be told what type of files or how the code is wrong. I’m not going to write a patch or debug the text so it’s an irritating detail that made me finally go “that’s it I’m done”. FIX’s inner monologue is just as tedious to read as his supposed cubicle, fern, and Chad. It’s also like reading a bunch of half formed thoughts and stream of consciousness. That might be how someone Thinks, but it makes for disjointed reading. Maybe it evens out. Maybe our mafia don who Also does stream on consciousness inner monologue gets out of his head enough to move the story in a productive way. But I don’t have the patience for it. Moving on.
This was an entertaining dark mafia romance, but definitely not a perfect read for me. Leo and Dante are… a lot in the best and worst ways. Leo struggles with severe psychological issues, is deeply masochistic, and has a death wish, while Dante is a violent, rage-filled mafia Don. Twisted? Yes. Compatible? Also yes.
Leo’s monotonous life and obsession with Dante make the kidnapping situation work in a very unsettling way , especially since Leo actually enjoys it. Their relationship is not portrayed as love, but as obsession, violence, and mutual darkness, and I appreciated that the author never tried to sell it as something romantic or healthy. That part worked really well for me.
However, the heavy hacker plot was hard to follow. There’s a lot of technical jargon, and as someone who knows nothing about hacking, I felt lost more than once. There were also some inconsistencies in the story and dialogue that pulled me out of the reading experience.
Another downside was the lack of character development for Leo. We don’t really get his backstory or a deeper explanation of his mental health struggles, which made it harder to fully understand him. Dante, at least, gets a bit more depth.
Overall, it was a dark, obsessive, violent story that kept me entertained, but it had enough flaws to keep it from being great.
I was scrolling and saw this and decided to read on a whim not expecting anything. Color me surprised, this is freaking incredible. It’s freaking darkkkk but so well-written. I have no words to describe this experience. I went on a dive and found out this is the authors debut novel, that is an incredible feat. It has possessive/obsessive otp men, like they’re both unhinged. Nyx gets taken and instead of being afraid has the opposite reaction. I’m so sad that there isn’t a physical copy of this book out because I would have jumped so fast to get it. I can’t wait for what the author has in store. Please reflect on the triggers, this is honestly morally black man with a psychotic hacker.
¿Tiene buen romance? No del todo. ¿El smut es bueno? Regular.
Aprobado.
Nyx is truly the epitome of “jokes on you. I’m into that.”
I skipped the blurb on the back of the book and went in blind. Mafia, captives, filthy in the title… there was nothing I wouldn’t enjoy. It was worth the risk.
I enjoyed the characters. I thought they were unhinged. Finally some mafia people that aren’t good guys in disguise. I’m so tired of authors being scared to write a character that’s a bad guy. Dante had anger issues and it showed in his actions. He wasn’t kind. He won’t ever be kind. However, he knows how to claim what’s his.
Leo is Leo. He’s not psychologically similar to the bulk of society, but at least he knows it. Good on them for finding each other. Excellent read.
There’s a lot of pain in this book but once you understand the characters you will see that they are actually perfect for each other. I like dark mafia and this one was so juicy. Dante runs the Voklov mafia with his brother and sister. When a hacker Leonel/Nyx starts playing with their assets for fun he gets kidnapped but they then discover how much of an assets he is and the fact tut he loves the pin that Dante has to release is a Win win. There were a few twists and turns and an element of suspense that kept me wanting to learn more and I found myself enjoying the characters .
"Welcome to my nightmare. I think you're going to like it here..." 😵😏😍
Completely unexpected! Such a beautifully brutal world! Enter this mind bending thriller that snarks its way through your brain. Nyx is an anomaly and a conundrum wrapped up in psychological nightmare. Dante is a product of his violent upbringing. He's a sexy beast designed just for Nyx. Together they are a perfect fit. A perfect storm that together unleash hell on earth!😈 I highly recommend this mind blowing funfest!😘 Check your triggers!!!🙂
A very solid debut! Well written with an interesting story, and the characters were entertaining.
I do wanna preface, this didn't really feel like a romance to me though. That's not for a lack of chemistry, because Dante and Leo are hot and obsessive and...honestly psychotic. Which again makes them entertaining but there was no love between them other than the sex. The story is still enjoyable despite this, albeit a bit receptive at times everything else aside.
I like the little extra Chad bit at the end, he's seems funny I'm interested in in we will get a story for him as well.
Wow what a ride. I love this book, I lost the track of time reading it. The deep connection between Nyx (Leo) and Dante is beyond any logic and goes way deeper than normal acceptable behaviour. Leo quietens Dante’s demons while being given the exact reason to live. Being truthful with oneself is a a sign of great character. How many can be that brave? All this being said, this book is not for the faint of heart.
There were SO many italics that it gave me a headache. I get adding a few here and there, but they're literally everywhere in this book.
There was no chemistry between Leo/Nyx and Dante. I get that their relationship was based on violence, but as I was reading it - even the sexual stuff - I felt... nothing.
There's no way I could've kept going until the end.
No rating because I don't rate books I don't finish.
I think I could have read another couple hundred pages of Nyx and Dante. I was hoping that was going to happen in the next installment of Tsars of Transgression, but I can appreciate always leaving one wanting more.
Housekeeping: The book could have used a beta reader or editor for some minor mistakes that didn’t distract too much for me (like underwear not on, underwear suddenly on and a few misused words, etc.).
I've struggled so much to find a mafia story that meets my specific standards. I didn't know I needed it until I found it. Thank you for writing this masterpiece. It's certainly not for everyone, but if you're drawn to dark, insane characters, and a bit of a hardcore, delusional obsession, this book is for you. It's brilliant!
The first chapter dragged me in. Leo's apathy and scathing internal monolgues are gold. It's totally messed up, but I love a good guilty pleasure read, lol! The author probably did way too much research on hacking because the average person won't understand any of the long, very technical paragraphs. Kudos for authenticity, tho. I will absolutely read the next one in the series.
Fucking hell Nyx and Dante were 😮💨🥵 love me a little tech geek and a boss ass mafia man. Enjoyed the story, enjoyed their interactions. I have no idea if the coding talk was legit but that shit blew my mind and made the story way more interesting. Spicy. Dark. Kinda twisted. Right up my alley.
This book had the potential to be really good but the lack of relationship development was really disappointing. Also had the potential to have a lot of hot sex scenes but didn't get many of those either.
hmmm… hard book to rate. they dont know shit about each other?? they never talked about their childhood, hobbies? anything. Dante was a dick who took Leo for granted… like he just talked to him when HE wanted something?? idkkk i just wished we got more of their relationship. but what do i know??
