The hero Nathan arrives at the home of the heroine Carin and immediately asks her to marry him. Carin knows that Nathan has finally found out about their daughter. Thirteen years ago, Nathan and Carin had fallen in love with each other but Carin's father had expected her to marry Nathan's brother as part of a business deal between their families, and Nathan had been consumed with guilt over their affair and left without a word. Carin has had to build a new life for herself and her daughter Lacey after being abandoned by her family, and she won't let Nathan come in and change all that she has worked hard for. She has never denied Lacey the truth about her father and is pleased that Nathan is dedicated to getting to know her. Nathan struggles with his feelings towards Carin, he knows that by not telling him she allowed him to live his life the way he had wanted to, but he also regrets missing out on his daughter's life. In all their years apart, Nathan has never forgotten Carin and knows he still loves her. But Carin makes it clear that she won't give up her life, and Nathan's own work commitments may ruin their newly rebuilt relationship.

I very much enjoyed this book. I'm not a big fan of Anne McAllister's Modern's, I prefer her Silhouette Desire's, but this one is very good. Much more in line with her Desire's, in terms of plot and emotion, than some of her more recent books. The story is well written and thought out, and the back story is weaved in wonderfully. It was a nice change to have the secret child older than the usual 1-6 years old - and the scenes between the hero and his teenage daughter gradually getting to know one another are very poignant. There is a lot of believable stuff in this book, and that is what makes it particularly enjoyable in my opinion.
The hero and heroine's relationship feels very natural and is emotional to read - the whole story executed very well.

A great book.

Argumento:

Where do I begin...I just really liked this story. I worry when I see what is predominately 3 star ratings and I give it 5. Like art, certain stories speak to you while others don’t. The hero really did it for me...he loved the heroine so much and would not give up on her. I like stories where you see the point of views from both characters. My heart broke for the H as we saw him go through all the doubts and jealous moments. I can see where the h could make the rating go down for some people just because it should have been obvious by the H’s actions that he was head over heels in love with her. Due to lack of communication, is why this story didn’t end much earlier. He loves her, she loves him, but let’s not share that with each other. The supporting characters were a nice addition to the story.. However I think this is 3 or 4 in a series so it may be worth it to check those out first as this book is a mini epilogue for some of those characters. Other reviewers have left much better overviews of the plot of this book. Definitely read theirs if you want a play by play...I know I did! Here’s my checklist:

Hero-very handsome, totes in love with the h, willing to do what it takes to win back her love✅

Heroine- independent, beautiful, has pride and won’t be taken for a fool, her own worst enemy actually ✅

Secret Baby- not a baby anymore, this girl is 12 and actually adds to the enjoyment of the story, not just mentioned and tossed to the side, she is spunky, smart, and not a tiresome brat✅

OW- there is no evil OW(although h gets worried at a blonde agent) ✅

OM- No🤔yes🤔no....this OM is meant purely to throw off the H...he causes a lot of angst for our H on purpose...he knows the score...and actually becomes one of the hero’s greatest allies✅(he gets his own story(In Mcgillivray’s Bed) I looked it up because he interested me)

Evil Family Members? Not a one(except h’s dad is mentioned and he has basically disowned his daughter, but he isn’t really part of story anymore) H’s family is great! The 2 brothers have their own stories which I will be looking up shortly)✅

Dog AND cat✅✅

Proper HEA- A satisfying ending: and a nice wrap up a year later after the declarations of everlasting love!✅

Nathan's brother was to marry Carin on a tropical island. She was there for the required time to establish residency for the marriage. Nathan arrives a week before the wedding. Not giving the whole story away he leaves. And the wedding does not go thru. Now thirteen years later said brother finds Carin on the same island where she owns a shop. He finds out her secret and lets Nathan know where she is. The rest of the story will be about if they get married or not. I have read many Anne Mcallister books in the past and will do so again. This plot line was not the normal ones that I have read. He left her and disappeared for years. So when he finds out what he left behind.

WoW! What a freaking loser, deadbeat, donkey-faced, shit-for-brains jerk this guy is. He sleeps with his brother's virginal naive fiancee then runs out on her out of guilt, to pursue his madcap wildlife photographer existence for 13 years. Then when he finds out where she is and that she gave birth to their daughter, who is now 12 years old, he STILL TAKES MONTHS to get the balls to introduce himself to his daughter. Oooooohhhhh he had scheduling problems, he had job priorities, he had guilt, he had "forgotten" all about the heroine and then all the "guilt" hit him like a fresh new wave. All the excuses in the world. What a deadbeat, good-for-nothing, trashbag clown!

Oklepana. Pierwsza połowa nudna. Później trochę lepiej, a zakończenie jak zwykle, czyli bez zaskoczeń.

After reading Rhys Redemption by Anne McAllister, I decided to read the stories of Rhys' two brothers. And I started with Nathan.

Thirteen years ago, Nathan and Carin had fallen in love with each other. Still, Carin's father had expected her to marry Nathan's brother Dominic as part of a business deal between their families, and Nathan had been consumed with guilt over their affair and left without a word.

Nathan Wolfe, still gorgeous and a very successful photographer, found out that he was the father of Carin’s daughter named Lacey. He went back to be a part of his daughter’s life.

After Nathan disappeared, Carin has had to build a new life for herself and her daughter Lacey after being disowned by her family. She was scared when Nathan came back, and she was scared that he would try to take Lacey away from her, but she eventually warms up when she sees how dedicated and determined Nathan was in proving that he really wanted to get to know their daughter.

I loved the relationship between Nathan and Lacey. Nathan was thrilled to be with his daughter.

This is a short and easy read but really enjoyable and was really worth my time. Anne McAllister never ceases to amaze me. She’s really great at developing such interesting characters.

And what I really loved about this book was that it seems real: the plot, the characters. The hero and heroine's relationship feels very natural. Plus, it was told from both Nathan and Carin’s points of view.

Carin membesarkan anaknya seorang diri, tanpa berusaha menutupi identitas Nathan.

This was an enjoyable read. Both the hero and heroine are reasonably well-rounded characters, both convincing as grown-ups (not something you can take for granted in the category romance). The heroine at times is a little shrill, but certainly not more than the average HP heroine who is still resisting the hero's magnetic pull. There's secret baby stuff as the background to the story, but the secret is already revealed at the outset; on the up side, there's none of the King Cophetua's beggar maid trope going on - here they actually seem like a good match, in terms of age, background, talents, and so on.
