Book Review: Small Town Frenzy by S.L. Scott
Thank you to the author and Hambright PR for my gifted ARC/ALC.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ (4.5/5 Stars)
Let’s set the scene: Costa Rica. One night. Two very attractive, very impulsive people. Zero last names exchanged, but plenty of unforgettable chemistry. That’s how Small Town Frenzy begins — and it only spirals beautifully, dramatically, and deliciously from there.
Cricket Dover, queen of single motherhood and professional multitasking, thought her one-night stand was a tropical blip in her otherwise carefully curated life. Fast-forward four years, and surprise! That blip now has a name — Jacob — and a fondness for baseball. Life in Peachtree Pass, Texas is going just fine until a charity game brings a familiar set of blue eyes, broad shoulders, and bad timing back into her world. Enter Griffin Greene: former pro player, local legend, and member of the one family her own has spent generations feuding with. You know, casual small-town drama.
The moment Griffin and Cricket see each other again, you can feel the air crackle. Their chemistry doesn’t simmer — it sizzles. S.L. Scott writes that kind of banter that’s sharp and flirtatious but layered with real emotion. These two have history (even if half of it’s unspoken) and watching it unfold feels like watching fireworks in slow motion — gorgeous, chaotic, impossible to look away from.
Griffin is everything you want in a romance hero: charming, self-aware, and just cocky enough to make you roll your eyes before he makes you melt. Cricket is a powerhouse — strong, stubborn, and trying her damnedest to keep her heart and her secret under wraps. Together? They’re magnetic. Every interaction brims with tension, humor, and that sweet ache of wanting something you know could ruin you — but also save you.
And oh, that secret. Watching Cricket wrestle with how and when to tell Griffin about their son adds a raw tenderness to the story. It’s not melodrama; it’s human. She’s terrified of losing control, of disrupting her son’s world, of being hurt again. But when Griffin finds out — and how he reacts — it’s the emotional payoff you came for. He’s not just a swoon-worthy cowboy athlete; he’s a man who learns, grows, and loves fiercely once he realizes what’s at stake.
S.L. Scott’s writing is cozy yet bold — think small-town warmth with a side of spice and sass. The emotional beats land hard without ever feeling heavy. The humor sparkles, the pacing hums, and the romance? Chef’s kiss. She captures that specific brand of small-town intimacy — where secrets travel faster than Wi-Fi and everyone knows who’s parked in whose driveway. The world of Peachtree Pass feels alive and familiar, and saying goodbye to it hurts in that satisfying way only great series finales do.
The audiobook deserves its own standing ovation. Tor Thom and Savannah Peachwood are perfection as Griffin and Cricket. Thom gives Griffin’s swagger and vulnerability the perfect drawl, while Peachwood nails Cricket’s blend of steel and softness. Together, their narration elevates every scene — the playful teasing, the emotional confessions, even the charged silences. They get these characters. You don’t just hear the story; you feel it.
And let’s not forget the supporting cast — because Peachtree Pass wouldn’t be Peachtree Pass without nosy neighbors, overprotective families, and the obligatory small-town gossip mill. The Greene and Dover clans bring equal parts chaos and heart, grounding the romance in community and history. Jacob, Cricket and Griffin’s son, is pure sunshine — charming, funny, and the perfect catalyst for the story’s most tender moments.
What makes Small Town Frenzy shine is its heart. Yes, it’s sexy. Yes, it’s witty. But underneath the flirty banter and smoldering glances lies a story about second chances — about forgiveness, family, and finding home in the last place you expect.
By the time the epilogue rolled around, I was smiling like an idiot. The ending ties everything together without feeling rushed — just warmth, peace, and the quiet satisfaction of watching two people finally get it right.
Quote:
“She may have brought my heart back to life, but it’s not mine to own. Not anymore. It’s all hers, and I give it willingly for her to hold on to.”
In short: Small Town Frenzy is emotional comfort food. It’s a cinnamon-roll hero with a cowboy hat, a heroine with grit, a kid who steals the show, and an author who knows exactly how to make you laugh, swoon, and maybe text your ex (don’t).
S.L. Scott closes out the Peachtree Pass series with heat, humor, and heart — the perfect blend of small-town chaos and big love.
