Torn between two worlds 😔
Corr blimey there’s a fair bit to unpack in this second book with Wren’s encampment with the humans and how things aren’t quite adding up for her 😳
For Wren there’s quite a focus on the connection to the Earth element in this book rather than the time thread element, and a question raised as to why she’s having difficulty with it 😧 as well as her learning more about the humans and their history - I really liked the addition of Ryoden, our human Captain and current fake fiancée to Wren, he’s dedicated to her despite the weariness and teats her with so much respect 😍 there are less interactions from the kings but when it’s there it’s 👌👌 this is slow burn although there’s definitely a heating up of the tension and some heartwarming declarations 🥰
There’s a good plot and you feel validated as a reader when Wren raises the exact questions you are when you hear the tales being told 😅
There’s a good level of action/drama particularly in the last quarter of the book and a dilemma of a cliffhanger!!

4.5⭐️ there’s just something SOO BINGEABLE about this series that made me stay up till 7am reading it cause i quite literally didn’t want to put it down! I love how this book picked up where book 1 ended and gave us more to the plotttt, yet the slight yearning in this had me in a chokehold! I’m such a stan of wren and all her men, and I’m not mad how things progressed, like i said.. VERY MUCH A STAN! (heheh im trying not to give spoilers LMAO) I’m obsessed and quite literally screaming into the abyss because of the cliffhanger.. LIKEEEEEE. Ugh, so grateful to have received this ARC, yet I’m spiraling because i want to know how everything is going to play out😭 ate this up!

Yes, there’s romance. Yes, there’s yearning. Yes, it’s why-choose. But more importantly, Taste of Madness is about choices, about standing up for what you believe in, about making sacrifices. Set in the middle of a war between humans and supernaturals, Wren finds herself becoming a liaison between the human Colonel Ryoden and the four supernatural kings, negotiating a ceasefire on attacks. The novel focuses on the development of Wren, of how she’s navigating her newly understood ability and figuring out a way to create a life thread that won’t end with the death of people she cares for. She wants to find a way to end the war. While her story in book 1 focused on her finding her identity, her path in book 2 illuminates and, in a way, critiques human greed and corruption. The romance is almost a subplot in the novel because the real focus is Wren’s growth as a being. There are moments when I felt like she could have asserted more power but I also think that she is at a point in her journey where she is still finding her full agency. In this novel, she has to learn to assert herself against five protective MMCs. . .powerful males who see her as a treasure to protect but are also slowly learning that she is far stronger than expected. This is an exciting read. But be forewarned, it does end in a cliffhanger but one that is worth it.

I received Taste of Madness in return for an honest review.

This is the second book in the Woven in Time series. Wren has left her four inhuman men in hopes of a chance to save the humans from this war that will destroy them all. She befriends a Ryoden a human who's doing what he can to save his people and will take the risk on the stranger. With her men agreeing to give her time to see this through she does what she can but soon they are pulled into a political plan within the humans where they may not make it out unscathed.

I love Wren she's one of my favorite FMC because she's not weak and she's willing to risk it all to save them. I liked seeing her spending time without both sides and learning more about what she is and why she's here. Her men all swoonworthy and you can't help loving them all because why choose. I really feel like I can connect with Wren which is why I just enjoyed her story so much she's awesome and I loved her.

This is a cliffy but it's so good I didn't mind the cliffy and i'm dying to read the next book in the series. I devoured this story in just one reading session as I was hooked right from the start. I'm a tiny bit obsessed with the authors storytelling as each one is beautiful written steals a little place in my heart. I truly enjoyed every moment of the story it captivated me from start to finish. Highly recommend if you enjoy why choose romantasy this is a must. To be honest every book by this author has been stunning. She's on my auto buy and I'm working my way through her backlist and have loved every one I've read so far.

“𝐒𝐡𝐞’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬—𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐟 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩, 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐞’𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐡 𝐦𝐞.”

i knew there was going to be a cliffhanger but i didn’t expect THAT to be the cliffhanger. like BRO WHAT 😅

this series is just all anxiety for me being i just don’t know HOW Wren is going to save the Earth. esp with the decision she was left with at the end of the first book.

a lot of times, the 2nd book in a trilogy can be a filler book, but this didn’t just feel like filler. you do get a lot more info about the humans and what the relationship was between the humans and supernaturals before the war. but it also leaves Wren more confused and with more questions.

“𝐌𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦. 𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞.”

this is definitely a slower burn in spice that other R.L. Caulder books, but it doesn’t mean the tension and longing isn’t there. and that build up between her and some of the mmcs has been so good.

“𝐈𝐟 𝐈 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐈 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞, 𝐈’𝐦 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐫.”

i can’t wait for the last book and just how everything ends. but also what comes from the cliffhanger in this book. i need the last book NOW PLEASE 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

thank you R.L. Caulder for an e-ARC of 𝑻𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑴𝒂𝒅𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔

wow

Leave it to one of my fav authors to leave me in awe again and again! But really this series is next level to anything her or anyone else’s books I’ve read in the past, this series is so refreshingly different in the telling of supernaturals while also being the same types of things I enjoy reading oh so very much! She found new or way less used ways to describe certain supernatural groups, and took something that’s been done before and made it unique enough that it still fits with the mold while also being refreshing and keeping me hook line and sinker from start of book one through the finish of book 2 and I know book 3 will be no different! Just when I thought I couldn’t be more of a blubbering mess after book 1 ended on a cliffie, book 2 went and outdid it with its cliffie! Definitely don’t read this before completion if you can’t handle waiting for another book after a cliffhanger so huge ur balling your eyes out! I hate doing this myself, but I just couldn’t wait to read when it comes to this author and a select few others, so I put myself through the torture because I just love to get them and read them the moment they’re there for the taking. Can not wait for book 3, but will have to seeing as I couldn’t wait when it came to this one or the first one! I read a lot of paranormal RH and so to find one this refreshing is super nice because I’m getting to the point where I stopped reading them for other types of books because it was getting repetitive, and this cleansed my palette, thankfully! End of book one came with her making decision to be selfless and this one one to be more selfish! We shall see how it works out in book 3!

Taste of Madness is the second book in the Woven in Time Trilogy. It is a slow burn, why choose, Romantasy with a fake engagement and a spectacular variety of fantasy beings. The story is told in first person with multiple POV.

Wren has a huge decision weighing on her shoulders. Is the world worth saving? That's what she needs to discover. On her journey she finds sad facts, understanding, and the importance of trusting in love.

This was such a powerful read. Wren is an amazing FMC that I truly love. I loved her empathy and her strong need to see the good. Her men are all also quite awesome themselves. I really loved their possessiveness and protectiveness.

I loved the style in which the story is told and the delicious slow burn of the romance. I also really loved all of the emotion provoking moments. The cliffhanger was quite a doozy and left me in serious need of book three.

This book has incredible writing, pace, flow, characters, plot, storyline, storytelling, character development, relationship development, and world building.

If you love your romantasy with palpable emotion, incredible characters and an intriguing story, then I'd definitely recommend this book.

Thank you so very much to R.L. Caulder for the ARC; all thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

Another great installment to the world! R.L. Caulder really built this world of what is really primarily our world, but with different magical factions, that are currently at war with the humans. But the creators of this world have created a final safeguard, the Weaver. The Weaver of Fates is meant to watch, listen and after experiencing, decide what/who is worth saving. She has no name, no memory of who or what she is, only this sense of purpose that is unknown. She is the only one with the ability to change fate. That girl, is our FMC. After the cliffhanger from book one, Wren is left with two terrible choices, but instead she decides to forge her own path. She walks away from the Kings and towards a human stronghold. We are introduced to new characters and more tough decisions. But if Wren thought the Kings would just let her walk away, she was very wrong. The Earth is silent and Wren must decide how to save everyone. Of course, we have another huge cliffhanger & I need to know how everything ends!

Thank you R.L. Caulder for the ARC!

ARC Review: Taste of Madness
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️1/2

WOW! What a great follow-up to Touch of Oblivion!

Wren’s innocent and curious nature is evident as she navigates the complexities of the world. However, she also exudes confidence and self-awareness, making her a relatable and inspiring character.

While I secretly wished we had more time with the 4 kings, we still had enough of them. In the human realm, we.were introduced to Ryoden Kane, who had an intriguing side. Will he be yet another “king” in her story. The tension between Wren and Ryoden was palpable. Their fake engagement started to blur the lines between duty and want.

RL maintained a tight pace and elevates the stakes throughout the novel. As Wren delves deeper into the truth, the narrative takes a darker turn. There’s a cliffhanger (as always 😅) - can’t wait for the next book!

Thank you @authorrlcaulder for sending me an ARC to review!

In this second instalment of Wren's story she has gone to the human side of the world, in order to try too get to know them, to help her make a decision. And, in the way of small men with too much power, her first interactions are not great, from petty cruelness to outright cruelty. But then along comes a more honourable man, with a good heart and a willingness to listen, who protects her.
You can clearly see the feelings grow between them as they spend time together, even though Ryoden is in a difficult position made worse when the kings come for Wren.
Can't wait to see what happens next, how Ryoden reacts and how the kings feel when they discover how much she feels for him!

When I came here to write my review, I started out by being a little sarcastic in a way that emphasizes one of my favorite parts of the story - but then I realized that it's a spoiler and I don't want to ruin that moment for anyone. I didn't expect a lot that happened in this book, and it made me love it even more because of that. I love when a book is unpredictable, that things go the opposite way you expect. Once again, R.L. Caulder reminds me why I'm obsessed with her work, and I am now in need of the next one.

Wow, wow, wow. This story just keeps getting more interesting! Throughout this book, I just felt like I was truly going through it with Wren. Learning with her, agonizing with her, and just wanting to know what the right thing to do is. We meet so many new characters I'm already in love with, while simultaneously cementing my adoration for the kings we've already become attached to (yes, even Mr. Crankypants wraith...). And even though this cliffhanger might k!ll me even more than the last one, I cannot wait to find out what happens next.

A new MMC has entered the chat with this installment of the Woven In Time trilogy, and immediately had me sat.

The book picks up immediately on the heels of where book one ended; with Wren venturing on her own journey in search of a different future than the two she's seen. It also has her landing directly into human territory and in the crosshairs of a handsome Colonel who's determined to learn her secrets.

I loved the romance arc that developed between Wren and Ryoden. It gave me what I was hoping to have with book one, where the romance felt too easy. As a reader who doesn't generally enjoy the insta factor with anything, I struggled a bit with Wren's quick and simple connection with 3 of the 4 kings in the previous book. When I'm reading a slow burn, there's nothing I enjoy more than that delicious burn of angst and yearning that comes with a good slow burn. And while we got it somewhat in book one, I hoped for more. And this book certainly delivered on that.

The story itself was well paced, albeit it does feel a bit repetitive in the first 20% and the interactions between Wren and Ryoden. However, as the story progressed, I became more enthralled. And by the time we got to the 85% mark, I was firmly glued to the pages.

The cliffhanger was beyond painful so I'm definitely looking forward to the conclusion. I'm going we get some delicious tension with Wren and Azyric because I can't wait to see how the doubtful wraith king finally falls. And I'm definitely curious how the why choose eleven will finally come together because so far we've only gotten small snippets of Wren with the men individually.

We picked up with Wren after that soul-stealing cliffy in ToO. However, we still don't immediately know what has happened to the Kings and what action Wren did or did not take. We follow Wren as she travels to the humans to better understand their side of the war and their minds, etc. She comes into contact with Colonel Ryoden almost immediately after dealing with some opportunistic soldiers. The actions Ryoden takes give her hope for the humans. She meets another friendly face who made me so happy he was able to talk to her and become one of her biggest allies.
Not ruining any surprises, but a chance encounter puts a little hiccup in Wren and the Colonel's relationship until she not only explains herself, but protects him and the humans around him. From there they must travel to meet the heads of the military of the human side where loyalties are tested and relationships proven.

Oh and the lovely R.L. leaves us on a cliffy AGAIN. Gluttons for punishments we are, I swear.

This book felt like it went so fast due to how well-written the action was, the interactions, and the world-building. I enjoyed every second. The pacing is perfect and yet again shows R.L. knows what she's doing. Relationships are built slowly, meal by meal, interaction by interaction, and I love how Ryoden learns to trust Wren and she him due to how they watch one another interact with others, surroundings, and in those small spaces when you watch someone as they think you're not looking.

Again, the world-building never stops and it doesn't feel like information overload. Questions I had were answered almost immediately like she was reading my mind, and I love that we learn as Wren does. A simple question such as why a man has to ask a woman for her hand in marriage and why can't a woman ask the man had me giggling because that is absolutely a question Wren would ask. She doesn't lose her fire or sass and she continues to fight for the Earth whether it listens to her or not. She genuinely feels there is a way to save everyone and she has the people coming to her side that she needs in that battle. I'm so excited for book 3!

Some tropes:
-Only soft for her
-Why Choose
-Multiple pov
-Supernaturals and humans
-Fake engagement
-Slow burn
-Fated mates

📚 Taste of Madness by R.L. Caulder
Series: Woven in Time #2

Genre: Romantasy | Why choose
Vibes: fake engagement, fate magic, war between worlds, emotional slow burn, looming sacrifice

After walking away from the four men who each hold a piece of her heart, Wren tries to move forward the only way she knows how… alone.

But nothing about her path is simple.

Her connection to the earth and the threads of fate she once wielded are gone, leaving behind nothing but silence. Determined to keep moving forward, Wren heads toward a human stronghold in search of answers.

Instead, she finds something far more dangerous.

What makes this sequel so compelling:

🖤 A powerful FMC questioning whether the world is worth saving
🔥 A fake engagement with a human colonel that blurs into something real
⚔️ Political tension and hidden corruption within human leadership
💔 Emotional distance from the men who still hold her heart
✨ A richly layered fantasy world filled with unique creatures and magic

Colonel Ryoden Kane initially arrests Wren as a potential enemy, but quickly becomes something much more complicated. Protective, loyal, and surprisingly trusting, he proposes a fake engagement that allows them to navigate human power structures together.

What starts as a strategic lie slowly becomes harder to separate from the truth.

Meanwhile, the war between factions grows more dangerous, and the deeper Wren digs for answers, the more horrifying the secrets become.

Wren continues to shine as an FMC. Her empathy, strength, and desire to see the good in others make her incredibly easy to root for, even when the choices she faces feel impossible.

The slow burn romance remains deliciously tense, and the emotional weight of the story keeps building as the threads of fate pull everyone closer to a final confrontation.

And yes…

That cliffhanger absolutely leaves you desperate for book three.

If you love:

🖤 Why choose romantasy
🔥 Fake engagement tropes
✨ Complex magic systems and worldbuilding
⚔️ High stakes fantasy with emotional depth

this series is definitely one to pick up.

💬 Do you enjoy fake engagement tropes more in fantasy or contemporary romance?

My sweet girl Wren is back and I’m so glad to be back in her world after Book 1’s cliffhanger!!!

Thank you R.L. Caulder for the opportunity to alpha & arc read Taste of Madness!

With that intense cliffhanger I had no idea where we could possible go in book 2 but I love seeing how Wren’s determination translates through her actions. She’s in an unknown world still learning and yet shows such empathy and strength to the world around her that you can’t help but love her. Leaving her kings behind killed me but off to understand the humans perspective in this war had me rooting for entirely new people despite my devotion to the kings because yes Ryoden has absolutely stolen my heart. He may have snatched my heart right up with his slvtty mustache and gold chain but having the opportunity to get to know him and see the person he is behind his title was fantastic. From start to finish he proves his worth when it comes to Wren and much like the kings our girl got him and he couldn’t resist!

This war is complex and I enjoyed the build up to better understand the humans perspective. ToM gave us so many emotions and so much growth from EVERYONE as the story continues to build. Getting to know and understand more of Ryoden made the ending that much more intense as everything came to a head. I was scared, disgusted, devastated, and enraged - how R.L. Manages to make me feel such strong emotions is her super power I swear. The men are all strong, possessive, and oozing alpha energy (which I love) and the storyline feels explosive as the book comes to a close. The kings couldn’t possibly leave their girl alone and yet are so respectful to her space and giving her freedom to explore what she feels necessary to do her job. Their faith in her is refreshing and despite being powerful they regard her with such admiration and adoration.

I absolutely cannot wait for the final book because we got hit with another cliffy and much like book 1 IT HURT SO GOOD!!! Truly I’m still reeling after that final chapter.

If you need me - no you don’t - because I’m still sitting in the corner staring off into the distance after the crazy ride the second half of this book sent me on…

In Taste of Madness by R.L. Caulder, the story tightens its grip and refuses to let go — and at the center of it all is Wren.
Wren’s journey in this sequel is raw, consuming, and deeply personal. She isn’t simply surviving anymore; she’s unraveling and evolving at the same time. The weight of what she’s endured presses against every decision she makes. Her strength feels hard-earned, her anger justified, and her vulnerability impossible to ignore. She’s messy in the most human way — and that’s what makes her unforgettable.
One of the most beautiful aspects of this installment is the way Wren connects with each of the MMCs. Every relationship feels distinct and layered. She doesn’t blend into them — she meets them where they are. There’s tension, comfort, friction, and longing, but none of it feels forced. Each bond grows from shared trauma, trust built in fragile moments, and an understanding that they are stronger together than apart. The emotional intimacy woven between them gives the romance real weight, making every look, every touch, every hard conversation matter.
And then there’s Ryoden.
His introduction shifts the atmosphere immediately. Where others bring familiarity, Ryoden brings something sharp and unpredictable. The dynamic between him and Wren crackles with restrained tension and slow-burning growth. What starts with uncertainty gradually builds into something layered and compelling. Watching their walls lower piece by piece is magnetic — and just when you feel like you’re truly seeing where it could go, the story leaves you hanging in the most deliciously frustrating way.
The world expands in darker, more dangerous directions, but it never overshadows Wren’s internal battle. The madness isn’t just external — it pulses through her choices, her fears, and the fragile hope she’s trying to protect. The stakes feel sharper because they are deeply personal.

Taste of Madness is a brutally beautiful book. I knew from the end of the first book that this one wouldn't start on the smoothest of terms, but I was still surprised. Don't get me wrong, the situation is still crap, but the world wasn't on fire yet. Wren is stuck between a rock and a hard place. With her pure heart and good soul, she is trying to find a solution that saves everyone. However, it's a fight just to get everyone on the same page. The guys still want their way, but there was some growth for most of the guys. Azyric is still being a jerk, but his mask is slipping. However, they are actually listening and thinking things through. Wren has changed them more than she realizes. The kings have some competition with Ryoden, a human colonel. Ry is a great example of humanity and most definitely swoonworthy. I would be hard-pressed to not like him.

I set aside an entire day to read this book because once I started, I wasn't going to stop until I read the very last page. I made the right call. The emotion that kept recurring was fear. All the MCs had this in common. Fear of putting their trust in others and fear of not being able to save their people, just to name a couple. That's what caused a lot of the tension. The twists were good. One was a total shock, while the other was a happy surprise. I've been dying for a little history about what happened between humans and supernaturals. Finally, there was a little hint, but it raised all sorts of red flags. I'll have to wait to see if my theory pans out, but at least evil has a name now. The villains are finally revealed, and I get it. I get why the Kings are hellbent on absolute destruction.

Caulder really did a number on me with this book, but it was so worth it. And that ending! Gods! I need the next book sooner rather than later. I can't wait to see how it all ends.

Thank you to the author for allowing me to read this ARC.

A Taste of Madness is book 2 in the Woven in time trilogy, and the chaos only gets darker from here. This story pulls you into a world where obsession, danger, and twisted loyalty blur every line. The tension builds slowly, but once it hits..it hits. The character are morally gray, intense and completely unhinged in the best way. Their chemistry is the kind that keeps flipping pages because you need to know what happens next. I loved how the story balances darkness with emotional depth, there's chaos, there's spice, and that constant feeling that everything could explode at any moment. If you love romances with dangerous characters, obsessive energy, and a touch of madness, this one absolutely delivers. Tropes: Dark romance, morally gray characters, obsession, twisted loyalty, high tension, and spicy romance.

Absolutely loving this series!!

OMG.... So the 2nd book in the Woven In Time series just about blew my mind. At the end of book 1, Wren was given an impossible choice to make...1) let the supernatural men she's coming to love live and the humans die or 2) let them die and the human race goes on. I prayed and prayed that she wouldn't choose either option, and at the beginning of this book, you think she had made her choice. She was outside of a human city trying to figure out a way in.

She's there to see if the humans are even redeemable... However, she gets caught and taken as a spy. The Colonel of the city, a man named Ryoden, is not sure what to make of Wren especially since she won't provide any details. He keeps her under house arrest at his house trying to wait her out. Until there is a dragon sighting headed their way and she just knows that it's Torryn, the shifter king. Allowing her to try to deescalate the situation, Ryoden finally learns exactly why she's there. And what her ties are to the supes.

Wren has already figured out that the stories the humans are being told about how the war started doesn't seem to match up and she begs her men for a month cease fire.

Now to figure out what is really going on, she has to go to the human HQ to meet the men who are leading the war.... Without letting anyone know her connection to the supes.

I absolutely love all of these guys and Ryoden.... Sigh...I think he's perfect for her as well. I am really happy that Eli redeemed himself after what happened in the beginning of book 1. Of course, this book also leaves Wren with another impossible choice to make at the very end. I can't wait to find out what happens next!!

Summary for future reference because the third book will be published in 5 months::::: Wren now knows she’s a weaver created by the gods to save Earth. She would have two options: kill the four kings and save the humans- automatically dying afterwards, or let the supernaturals win and absolutely everyone dies in the future when the supernaturals start fighting among themselves. She decided to make her third option: study the humans and try to make everyone shake hands and be happy forever. She leaves the four kings behind, and goes to stay with the humans. She meets Ryoden, the Colonel of the city she was gonna stay. They kinda fall in love but nothing really happens. She befriends Eli and Derrick. At some point the four kings track her and go to the city to get her back, but she convinces them to give her 30 days. In doing so, she jeopardises Ryoden’s position and to save it they have to go to the headquarters to explain the situation to the human leaders. At headquarters they’re betrayed by one of the commanders from Ryoden’s city, and so they’re attacked. Because she mates with Torryn (the shapeshifter), she manages to call for help and they’re rescued and taken to Sylvin’s (the fae) castle, but Ryoden was shot and now because she’s dying they need to save him. To save him, Riven (the vampire) offers to transform him. And Azyric is, yet again, an asshole that kept complaining about bringing two humans to supernatural lands (Eli and Ryoden). The book finishes with Riven transforming Ryoden, who will probably be very upset when he finds out he’s been turned into a supernatural, but hopefully will get over it quickly. Wren is yet to bond with the other MMCs, if she does.

My sweet bbygirl Wren is BACK, and I am HERE FOR IT. I definitely needed a refresher when I picked this book up because I literally INHALED the first one, and then..proceeded to do the same with Taste of Madness. This series is just so dang easy to binge - I literally read this in a matter of hours because I could not step away.

I love Wren so much - she is like a baby deer coming into the world, even still, and yet she is so self-assured and confident she makes me so proud at every turn! I love her ability to admit when she has no clue what is happening, and then when she surprises me with little quips and banter it makes me grin from ear to ear.

With this book we got a handful of new characters ti absolutely fall in love with, too. Ryoden and Eli - where to begin. I knew from the very first mention of him, Ryoden was going to be a good one. And a good one, he is. He is so GOOD and protective and yet he would still do ALL the bad things to keep Wren safe. Adding his very morally sound character to the mix of morally grey men already in this story - YESSSSS! This is why I love RL Caulder hahaha, she really said, but wait, I can give you even MORE!

And Eli, I think he is my favorite secondary character in a long while. He is such a force for good, and a good symbol/portrayal for Wren’s experience with humanity, and how humans can grow and change. And when that man said “DISRESPECTFULLY, GO TO HELL” - I was deceased. I love him so much.

I had a great time reading this book and can’t wait for the finale in the trilogy!

This was such a compelling continuation of the story, and I found myself pulled right back into the world from the very first pages. The emotional weight of the main character’s loss is palpable. Losing her connection to the earth and the fate she was created to wield leaves a quiet, aching void that shapes every decision she makes. Watching her try to forge her own path despite that silence makes her journey feel raw and very human.

The shift into the human stronghold adds an intriguing layer to the story. Political tension, hidden agendas, and dark truths lurking beneath patriotic promises create a constant sense that something bigger and more dangerous is unfolding. The mystery slowly unravels in a way that keeps the pages turning.

Ryoden Kane is easily one of the highlights. His dynamic with the heroine brings a slow-burn tension that works beautifully with the fake engagement trope. What starts as a strategic lie gradually grows into something much more complicated, and their chemistry adds a strong emotional thread throughout the book.

While the pacing occasionally slows as the larger conspiracy builds, the character development and world building make it worth the ride. By the end, the stakes feel enormous and the choices ahead feel impossible.

Overall, this was an engaging and emotional installment with strong characters, meaningful tension, and a romance that sneaks up on you. Definitely worth the read for anyone invested in the series. I am so ready for what comes next.

Review of advance copy received from Author

“Taste of Madness” had unique dynamics and character arc progression. It’s a fascinating blend of fantasy and dystopian like elements . Plus it is why choose done way different- it’s a slow slow burn . In a genre that can at times feel very copy paste this is novel . There still is all that alpha male energy with shifters, wraiths, fey, vampire’s , mates and humans that you’d expect . I do really like how all the relationships develop separately and at varying rates.
It is the second book in a trilogy- the first ended in a huge cliff hanger. Then this one started off in a completely different spot, with Wren’s powers vanished. It managed to real draw out that unknown from the previous ending. It focused on the human faction and her budding relationship with Colonel Ryoden. Who is just all around a great, albeit cautious person. He really risked a lot in trusting Wren. Where everything in the first book was very fast, unknown , with multiple settings, complicated relationships and crazy developments, this one instead seemed to really slow the pace down .There was a lot of development on Wrens character and the dynamics between the Kings( - they progressed tremendously from hostile allies) . It ended on another cliffhanger and I’m very intrigued with how the author is going to merge these factions/ relationships and save the world all in the final book , ought to be quite a ride.

After that steeeeeeep cliffhanger at the end of the first book, we pick up this story about two weeks later.

Wren wanted to see more of humanity, so she travelled closer to a human settlement, only to be taken captive by men who should be protecting people rather than being cruel. Rescued by Colonel Ryoden himself, she holds her secrets close. She doesn't trust him, yet she finds it increasingly difficult to view him as the enemy.

This book is absolutely full of all the feels! I missed our lovely group of men something fierce, but at the same time, I started seeing something special in Ryoden (and even Eli and Derrick) right along with Wren. On the flip side, we see the absolute worst of humanity, and I truly wish there were a special hell for some of these characters. Actually, I'm sure Azyric and Riven could accommodate that request for us! :D

Wren has grown (and learned) a lot, and I feel she's come a long way since she first woke up on that battlefield. I'm so rooting for her to get the perfect ending.
That said, my only real hope for the next (and final) book is that Wren finally realizes what her men truly mean to her and how much they have sacrificed on her behalf.

I cannot wait for the last installment to come out. I'm really hating cliffhangers right about now, but rest assured, this one wasn't nearly as brutal as the previous one! All the men are amazing, but even with his grumpiness, Azyric is still my favorite.

⚜️ Book Title - Taste of Madness
⚜️ Author - R.L Caulder
⚜️ Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
⚜️ Some Genre/Themes/Tropes: Adult Fiction, Romance and Fantasy

I received an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book via the author. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This is my honest review.

Oooo, decisions, decisions. Poor Wren had some biiiiig choices to make!

I absolutely loved Wren’s dynamic with each of the guys and how it continues to build. It was so damn good. The relationship she has with each of the Kings feels unique, while also having tension, and emotional depth. Caulder does a great job of showing how different sides of Wren come out depending on who she’s interacting with. Also, hello Col. Ryoden 👀

And the cliffhanger 🤣 I know I should be use to them by now but everytime I’m like give me mooore! Please sir, can I have some more. 🥺🙏

I would recommend this book to others who enjoy RH books. I’m keen for the sequel and definitely will look for other books written by this author.

I want to say thank you to the author for the ARC.

Note (How I rate): One is DNF. Two is got there but struggled. Three stars is a good, enjoyable read. Four is an excellent read and five is a comfort read that lingers with me for life. My five stars can be imperfect but to me they hit right.

Okay. A lot to process here!

First, this is the second book in the Woven in Time series. You definitely need to read book 1, Touch of Oblivion first, as this book picks up where that book left off! Also, R.L. Caulder is an evil queen when it comes to cliffhangers, so brace yourselves!

This book has Wren continuing on her journey to figure out herself and her mysterious powers/connection with the Earth. Things take a bit of a twist when she has to leave her kings behind to explore the human side of this conflict. Enter Ryoden, surprising new contender for Wren's heart!

Without spoilers, Wren continues to be much too good for the world, and her empathy and compassion make my heart hurt for her. However, she is also a confident and strong woman that stands on her business!

There are some interactions with Wrens kings that let you know she's not just leaving them in the past, but how can she bridge the gap between both sides, and still keep everyone she has come to care for?

As mentioned, this book ends on another cliffhanger, but I cannot wait to see what happens next! Rooting for Wren and her men! (Having read many R.L. Caulder books, I have faith and am trusting the process....and happy ending.)

Thank you to R.L. Caulder and her team for gifting an e-arc of this book! This review was provided voluntarily and contains my own opinions.

ARC REVIEW FOR: Taste of Madness by R.L Caulder

Stars ⭐️: 4
Spice 🌶️: 1 - 2

Taste of madness is a why choose urban fantasy with vampires, wraiths, fae, a hot slow burn, forced proximity and a one bed trope.

i want to say a big thank you to R.L and her team for this as i absolutely loved this book. The writing, the plot, and the characters were so alive and i felt as if i was in this intriguing mysterious world myself. I also couldn't believe how I could love Wren, the FMC, so much more! Her curiosity of the world and the nature of it, plus her confidence and self-awareness made her such a likeable and relatable character.

Another great aspect of this book story is how well each individual character is written, everyone is their own person and you know who is talking in that moment. We also see Wren being able to make her own decisions, whether they are bad or good. This is such an important part of a story as it shows how much the MMCs love and want to protect Wren.

R.L maintained a pace throughout the story that kept us hungry for more, at each point of this book I was grappling for each new piece of information she was giving us. Although this book ends on a cliffhanger, its safe to say I was not disappointed with the ending and I cannot wait for Wren's story to continue in the final book!

A very intriguing world, indeed!

spoilerssss inbound

I really like when a second book is able to open up the world in different ways. That is what Taste of Madness does. While I was missing the kings (well, mostly), I liked the new characters and how we were shown more of this world. Ryoden is a great addition to - or I think will be a great addition to the polycule (can we call it that?)

I love urban fantasy, so I liked the inclusion of the human world. We learn more about the history and it is very clear, not everything is as it seems. Learning about everything and viewing the world through Wren’s eyes is a great tool, because it feels natural as things unravel.

Wren’s power (or lack of) is a great extension to book 1. As the story was ramping up, I really wanted to see more, but we have to wait for it.

I liked the use of the fake fiancee and one bed tropes, even if we don’t get the payoff - yet.
There is a lot of set up to the story that will conclude in book 3, and we get a lot of information.
I was very surprised at the end, because I really thought we were going in a different direction - not negatively, I just sometimes like things finished with a nice, tidy little bow and those last pages threw a wrench into that plan. I feel there is so much more to go, I am not sure how it will conclude in book 3! Looking forward to finding out!
