This is a collection of four little wedding idea books. While the pictures were fun to skim through, I didn't find anything in these that I absolutely loved. I also found the advice to be the exact kind that other (better) wedding advice books warn you against. I.e., cutting the guest list so you can afford a more expensive and extravagant wedding cake. The Knot is all about promoting the loose-wallet attitude of the wedding industry. This little collection unfortunately falls prey to that a bit.

The Knot Little Books of Big Wedding Ideas: Cakes; Bouquets & Centerpieces; Vows & Toasts; and Details

Reviewed By Amie P.

As a bride, I would definitely recommend these to someone planning a wedding. The tips in these are pretty helpful, the pictures are so great, and the best things about these books are their size; they’re small enough to put in your purse.

Cakes - The cakes pictured in this book were beautiful, colorful, and some just plain cute.
But, this was my least favorite of the set because they really only showed you ideas for fondant cakes, and I personally think fondant is gross. So, I would’ve liked to see more cakes made with icing. But that’s just my personal opinion, and I’m sure someone getting a fondant cake would love this. The tips however were helpful for figuring out how soon you needed to reserve a baker and informing you to “Show, don’t tell” (taking pictures, swatches, and other things you want to incorporate into your cake). 3/5

Bouquets & Centerpieces - I like that it gives you descriptions of the different kinds of lingo associate with bouquets and centerpieces (i.e. I had no idea what dais meant, it’s a centerpiece at the head of the table that drapes to the front of the table). I really like that it gives you tips on how to save some money on your flowers. I do, however, wish they would’ve given more ideas for more intimate receptions. The centerpieces were much to extravagant for someone have a small wedding. It would’ve also been nice to see centerpieces that didn’t include flowers or maybe just less flowers. 3/5

Details - This one is about stationery, décor, and favors. This one would be my second favorite out of the set. I really liked the tips for the wedding favors, I found that very helpful. And yet again the pictures are a great help for seeing what you could do. I liked that they gave you the idea of finding websites that let you design your invitations and play with different colors and fonts. It also tells you how to word your invitations; it includes different ideas for response cards, and different ideas for your envelopes. It provides helpful tips for saving on stationary (like how to use computerized calligraphy instead of hiring someone to handwrite all the address). It tells you the meanings of the different types of paper and typing techniques, which is great, and now I’ll know what style of paper and type that I want. It has great advice on how to decorate your venue and reception area, also, what to do for your wedding favors. There are so many cute ideas for all types of weddings in this book. 5/5

Vows & Toasts - This is my favorite of the set. If you’re writing your own vows or just going traditional this is a book full of great tips. It has so many different religions traditional vows, and I thought it was very interesting to see what other religions recited to each other at their weddings. It also has non-religious vows to read, which is nice. It gives you different quotes/phrases from poems, biblical scriptures, and books to help with your own personal vows. It gives great advice on how to set up your vows along with some do’s and don’ts for writing them. It includes vows from actual weddings, which were so nice. And I really enjoyed that it not only gave you ideas for your vows, but for your toasts as well, it also gives toast ideas for parents, maid-of-honor, and the best man. This book was by far the most helpful to me. 5/5

I'm a book person.
Though I do enjoy blogs, e-newsletters, and using my sisters kindle to read a book. I still prefer the physical weight and feel of a book-not to mention the sound of the pages turning.
Being obsessed with Pinterest and planning my someday wedding, I was excited to check these books out.
Honestly, I was disappointed.
There are four books in this set, cakes, bouquets & centerpieces, details, and vows & toasts.
The cake book, contained several pages talking about different things you'd want to know about choosing a cake (frosting types, styles, flavors, choosing a bakery etc.). It then has several beauty pictures of cake. The problem I saw was the cake examples given, seemed to just repeat; same cake different color usage. I was also disappointed that all but maybe three cakes used fondant-I hate fondant. It makes for a pretty cake, but I prefer flavor to look. And the maybe three that used butter-cream, weren't very pretty.
The bouquets & centerpiece book was OK, again, the first several pages contained information, such as choosing the right flowers and florist. It contained beautiful pictures and some cute ideas, but most of the ideas (to me) were for ritzy weddings.
The details book contained some cute ideas.
My favorite book of the four was the vows and toasts book. It definitely contained some good ideas.

In closing, if you've just started planning a wedding, these books would be a nice start. But if you've even just glanced at Pinterest, or even The Knot's website, these books are a waste of time and money.

If you are a bride to be, a wedding planner or just obsessed with weddings... chances are you think about weddings 24/7. When I saw this collection of books I instantly thought of my soon-to-be sister-in-law.
Most brides know of the knot.com right? Well if you haven't already checked it out, you really should! It is one of the most perfect places for brides-to-be. The people from http://theknot.com have helped create books to help with anything wedding related, including a men's guide to weddings and a book of lists, perfect if you can't function without a list of some sort.
Some of these ideas are gorgeous but keep in mind there are ALWAYS d.I.y. ways to make wedding decorations so much cheaper. Also take into account, some flowers will not be available in your area or around that time of year. Make sure you make a list, Google what you need to and plan, plan, plan.
This book includes hundreds of awe inspiring cakes, bouquets, centerpieces as well as ideas on how to write your own wedding vows and speeches. In my opinion I would only use this as a difference but not to plan the whole wedding! 3/5*

The Knot little books of Big Wedding Ideas is a compilation of wedding suggestions to help in sound decision-making regarding cakes, bouquets, centerpieces, vows, toasts, stationery, décor, and favors. Included are money-saving tips such as determining cake selections along with cake decorating terminology, flavoring, and whether to use butter cream or fondant frosting depending upon the season selection of your special day.

The collection is comprised of four individual books labeled Cakes, Bouquets & Centerpieces, Details, and Vows & Toasts and may be carried in your purse or tote for easy reference during the selection process. There are plenty of pictures and information to make an informed decision for the big day ahead without too much stress or fuss. I recommend to all brides seeking suggestions for their wedding details being that the miniature books full of useful ideas are easily transportable and recommended to friends and families of soon-to-be brides as a great gifting opportunity.

Unfortunately, my library only has the Vows & Toasts mini book, and all 4 of these have 1 ISBN and don't "exist" separately? Ugh. 1 other county has 4 items on the record, so I'm requesting all 4 to see if they also cataloged the pieces separately but it's the whole set...

Lots of pretty pictures, but I didn't like the assumptions the book made about the type of wedding you would undoubtedly have and your inability to do things yourself. That said, if you're having a more traditional celebration you'll find some good information.
