The Life-Eater

Rate this book
A medium wielding dark sorcery accidentally unleashes nightly horrors that drain the life-force from the people of an isolated village. Each night brings twisted corpses, gaunt mothers, and the silent dread of a cemetery too full to hold the lost.

As terrified villagers vanish into the swamp’s shadow, a disillusioned physician versed in voodoo and demonology teams with a devoted schoolmaster whose beloved girl teeters on death’s edge. Together they erect iron wards, hypnotic ploys, and a hidden trap within the abandoned chapel—and prepare to face the unseen elemental before it feeds on every soul...

This is a great little story. Full of all the pulp stereotypes you'd expect, but it's still a lot of fun.

There's the rum drinking, hard-core "doctor", who has much experience in the ways of Dark Magic, and who is the hero of the story. The skull faced evil bad guy with an evil aggenda. The schlepy police constable who is braver than he thinks. The sick, trembling schoolmaster who loves a local beauty, and fears for her life. A haunted, isolated Louisiana hamlet. A creepy swamp. And a dark foreboding atmosphere.

And a grey, smoky evil element being who will suck the life force out of you. In a painful, slow, nasty manner. You will groan and scream a lot.

Everyone in the hamlet lives in fear. Desperation is in the air. Will our rum-drinking doctor save the day?

Read on if you dare. This story comes recommended by this fan of tales of horror!!!
