This Is The Fall: Book One

Rate this book
“I always thought the apocalypse would arrive with fire and brimstone. But I was wrong. Everyone was wrong. The Fall of civilization came silently, creeping out of the shadows.”

Dive into a wild, genre-blending adventure, perfect for fans of morally grey characters, slow-burn romance, found family, things that go bump in the night, and a mythos that sits under the skin long after the last page.

It begins when a mysterious blackout sweeps the country leaving Amber stranded in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest with nothing but her hikers pack and a gut feeling that she is not alone in the shadows of the towering conifers. As something ancient and sinister awakens in the forests around her, she must Stay in an isolated mountain convenience store and survive alone, or risk it all to get back to her family in the city.

But monsters don’t only lurk in the shadows of the deep forests. In the midst of the chaos, a dangerously charming and not entirely trustworthy man from her past resurfaces bringing secrets that could save her or mean her end.

This is Amber’s story; a harrowing tale of strength, survival, and hope that something good might still exist.

Content Violence, PTSD, panic attacks, threats of sexual assault, themes of coercion, suicidal ideation, raw language, blood, gore, death, kidnapping, manipulation, and strong language. Reader discretion is advised.

If you loved the heart of The Last of Us you NEED to read this book!

This is the Fall by LynnErin Faye is an incredible post-apocalyptic story with fantasy elements seamlessly woven in. It’s a character-driven masterpiece that draws you in and leaves you wanting more.

The main character is Amber - a woman in her early twenties who is fierce and capable and immediately relatable. We also get to follow Dan, (an older man fighting the demons of his past) who crosses Amber’s path just after the world ends (but before they realise it has), and Melissa, Amber’s mother, through whose eyes we get to see civilisation collapse.

The book switches between first-person POV for Amber and third-person for Dan and Melissa, which I really enjoyed. The third-person perspective didn’t make me feel any less connected to Dan and Melissa, but I was also right there with Amber.

You very quickly become attached to the characters and are invested in how they’re handling the apocalyptic events, as well as trying to figure out exactly what has happened, and how the world has changed. It’s woven together so well that the fantastical elements feel realistic and genuine, and in the world that LynnErin Faye has created for us, they don’t seem out of place at all.

Every so often a book comes along that transcends genre, and this is definitely one such book. It doesn’t matter if you like post-apocalyptic, or dystopian, or sci-fi, or fantasy (though if you do, you will really enjoy those elements). This is such a good story that readers regardless of genre preference will love it.

Addictive, emotional, and impossible to put down, this is a must-read for all fans of character-driven stories. Ms Faye, I’m going to need more books. Now. Like, right now.

I knew almost nothing about this book when I started it, and I'd recommend that anyone considering reading this to do the same!

THIS IS THE FALL is a genre-bending adventure, blending familiar subgenres into the mix while holding true to the author's tone. We follow a few characters, both in first-person POV and in third-person POV, each of them helpless against the sudden apocalypse and hoping to stay alive at night when creatures not of this world come out of the woods with murder in their eyes.

This book is an apocalyptic suspense! It's full of action and dread, with fantastical and horror elements, mystery, and a tease of dark romance. Bundle all that up and sprinkle in a badass FMC who's relatable and just trying to survive alone in the wilderness, and you've got yourself a fun spin on the fiction genre as we know it.

LynnErin Faye, KEEP WRITING! Your style is unique, and I just know you have more to share with us!

LynnErin Faye’s “This is the Fall” is an entirely unique adventure, packed full of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat from the get!
Told mainly from Amber’s relatable (and refreshingly down to earth) perspective, I was taken on a journey of mystery, drama, and action (with even a sprinkling of romance) all set to a blood pumping backdrop of apocalyptic realness!
Rich with emotional depth and quippy banter, I found myself letting out belly laughs to biting my nails in suspense, giggling like a giddy school girl to tearing up at times…
Haunting and raw, heartfelt and witty, this novel was a dance between light and shadow with a magical twist! I’ve never read anything quite like it and it belongs in a class all of its own! LOVED it and can’t wait for more in this series!!!

This Is The Fall by Lynnerin Faye is an arresting blend of post-apocalyptic survival, ancient myth, and deeply personal transformation, all wrapped in the eerie stillness of a world gone dark.

From the chilling first line. I always thought the apocalypse would arrive with fire and brimstone. Faye hooks the reader with her evocative prose and eerie world-building. When the power dies and technology fails, Amber is thrust into isolation in the Washington wilderness, and the silence is anything but peaceful. Faye's pacing is masterful, slow, tense, and deliberate, as dread seeps through the trees, and the skies press down with unnatural weight.
