Talor Gardin may be a princess, but her life is no fairy tale.
A year ago, her mother died and her father burned down their house. Now with a father in and out of a mental ward, she’s working a minimum wage job to finish her last semester of college. To make matters worse, she gets itchy every time a guy makes a move on her. The itch could be anything, really: a desire to escape her haunted hometown, a financial windfall, the name of some vampire…or all the above. Whatever the reason, she thinks the answers are written in the freckle constellations of her cute new coworker, Sage Talis.
Sage is the quiet, polite type with plenty of secrets – like fangs and a price on his head – and Talor can’t figure out what makes him so irresistible until she hears him sing. But when cryptic letters appear on her wrist, Talor is thrust into a world where fantastic creatures lurk just below the skin, strangers keep calling her a princess, and everything she's been through is nothing compared to what's coming.
Safari Spell is the author of the romantasy series, LONG LIVE DEAD RECKLESS and RECKLESS SONS.
A native of Albany, Georgia, she now lives in North Georgia with her handsome freckled husband and spends most days being a SAHM to their three feral children.
When she isn't daydreaming about autumn or teaching yoga classes, she buys way too many fairy lights and cozy blankets.
She is currently writing the LLDR prequel series, RECKLESS SONS.
Talor knows loss. She lost her mother and then seemingly a year later her father loses his mind and ends up in a mental institution. She lives with her grandmother and all seems normal and boring and well just life. She is floundering in college and holds a part time job at a nursery for a gym. One coworker seems to be a man whore of epic proportions and one is aloof but probably for good reasons. It’s the aloof one she has her heart set on. Her life is about to fall into a weird spiral of things she had no idea existed until now.
Sage is the singer of Dead Reckless but he also works part time at the gym. He is drawn to Talor like a moth to a flame. Sadly, Sage has big secrets but it’s not just his secrets because the band is like him in many ways. When he finally collides with Talor he knows he will risk his life to save her.
Ok so let me explain why I waffled with this rating. I didn’t know where this was going. There was no background really the beginning of the book just jumped head first into a story that I had no idea was going on then the middle part was good it was flowing then the end just seemed like a scramble to tie up the ends. Things were forgot about like her weirdo boss for instance. Then suddenly a group of magical creatures turned up that were hybrids of things I was lost for a while.
The core plot of the book had such potential but I felt there was so many things going on at once. Spencer and Azalea and all these other people who just showed up but supposedly had significance in her life we never knew about. Also can someone clear up her age? I felt like she acted like a petulant teenager and I wanted off her emotional rollercoaster so darn bad.
I had such high hopes. I don’t want my review to deter anyone maybe they can make sense of it better than me. Like I said awesome plot but too much story at once.
Absolutely loved this book! From the first few pages, it grabbed me and I couldn't put it down. I love the familiarity of the setting and just love the characters. I won't spoil anything, but the ending left me screaming!! I can not wait for the next one!!!
Long Live Dead Reckless is one of the most original genre novels I've read. Shows like True Blood and Vampire Diaries have shaped our opinion of vampires in the last decade for better or worse. But our expectations of a familiar trope also allow new authors like Safari Spell to easily throw us for a loop. The characters all felt fresh and fully fleshed out and the paranormal elements were unique and intriguing. Unfortunately the book ended just as it was becoming interesting.
Personally I had a hard time deciding which guy to root for, much like Talor. And once we started to get to know Sage and his bandmates I had mixed feelings. However, this is largely an origin story, with much room for future character development. Possibly the thing I was most excited about was the reveal of Big Bad. We finally learn why Talor is a princess and what Sage and his fellow Vamps actually are. I'm a huge fan of bad guys and antiheroes, which is probably why I'm an Eric Northman/Klaus Mikaelson kind of gal. So I have a feeling I would really love Big Bad and the sequel to LLDR.
The imagination and creative way this author circumvents familiar tropes, alongside engaging characters make this a worthy read. Fun for fans of paranormal romance and plot twists, Long Live Dead Reckless is a fresh and campy take on the power of immortal love.
This is not my go-to genre by any stretch but it's been on my TBR list for awhile. The author definitely held my attention until the end. While the beginning started out perfectly normal and humdrum with a young woman going to college and working part-time, her life takes a wild turn when she kisses her date at a party. Things were just getting interesting when the end came so I'm looking forward to reading the next one!
I don't usually read this genre of books, but this one was definitely a page turner! I couldn't put it down. The suspense kept me wanting more. Just when I thought I knew what would happen in the succeeding chapters, the plot thickens! I can't wait for the sequel!
With every chapter from beginning to end I found myself wondering would what happen next. The cliffhanger ending left me impatiently awaiting the release of the sequel next spring!
This is the first Safari Spell book that I have read and I got to say, I need the next book like a kid wants candy. ;)
In this paranormal adventure Talor is like a lot of young adults. She goes to college, lives with her grandmother and works in a gym. Normal? Yeah right! Her father is in an institution and her mother died when she was little. I would say she is troubled and a tad lonely. She has some really good friends, but they don't cure the part deep in her soul where she yearns for something more.
One day Talor's life is turned upside down with the arrival of a new guy, Sage. He is good-looking and sexy as sin. But he won't give her the time of day. With his arrival strange things start to happen. The gym playboy Spencer starts taking an overly strong interest in Talor. She has a hard time fighting off his advances. She sees shadows, strange people start showing up in town and feels like she is being watched at times. Not to mention people keep calling her princess.? What is that all about?
When Spencer disappears and Sage begins to show interest in her, things really start getting weird. What is going on and who can she trust? Can Talor figure the puzzle out before something happens to her?
Ok starting off on this book I was a bit leery, but in the end I was hooked. The ending was epic and left me like a mental patient with my mouth hanging open and drool coming out. I really enjoyed the story as it developed, but felt lost at times. It was really busy and had a lot going on with some things left unexplored. I was a bit confused here and there, but as the story became more whole I felt better.
The two main characters in this story are magnetic. They don't want to fight the attraction that is brewing between them but must. They were never meant to be, but they fell for each other and hard. It is a soul shattering love story of epic proportions.
I loved all the characters in this book and was a bit disappointed when some of the characters showed a promise to the bigger picture, but were not in it. These were the times I felt lost and wonder why the introduction if not having them explored. For instance her creepy boss and her professor. People that make you go hmm.......
The ending of this book will leave you screaming and saying no!!!! Go back! I want a do over!!! Let us just say CLIFF HANGER! You will be dangling over the edge holding on for dear life wondering what now. You will want to rush out and pick up the next book For The Ages ASAP!
Overall this book is pretty damn good. A roller coaster ride of emotions throughout. It is addicting. I had a hard time putting it down once I picked it up. A definite "just one more chapter" kind of book. I would have given it 5 stars, but like I said I had a few tiny issues. So it will have to get 4. I am going to definitely read the next book though. Got to know what happens next!

I have to say the sypnosis was a bit confusing. It seemed like a contemporary story, but then with vampires and Talor is a princess, but isn't at the same time. At least not the princess we first think about after hearing that word. This book is pretty long and to be honest, I thought it started off pretty slow. It wasn't until about the halfway point that it started getting really interesting. Little things happened up to that point, but it didn't seem like it fit together for awhile. Talor definitely hasn't had an easy time for awhile. Losing her mother really hurt her and to top it off her father tried burning down their house. It took awhile before her father really played a part in the book. At first when Sage made his secrets known, I kind of got a Twilight vibe from the book. They can't be together, but they really want to. While I like the love story and paranormal elements, it seemed a bit much at times. I mean vampires, sirens and on top of that they can all transform into animals. I think it would've been better to choose and not so much at once. That being said, I did like Sage's band. They were funny in their own way and very protective. The ending kind of confused me a bit. I expected a few things to happen, but didn't understand it all. It ended in a major cliffhanger. I do want to read the next book to see where it goes from here. Also, some things that we read about in the book feel like they should be explained more: the crop circles, Spencer (what is his story), her grandmother's past. We also don't really see much of her father. I hope that this will be fixed in the next book. I did really love the author's writing style and her imagination. In many ways this book was very unique
This is my first book by Safari Spell, I was very intrigued by the blurb, it sounded quite a different kind of PNR read, so was all for giving it a go!!
Taylor has had some hard knocks in life - she has lost her mum and her dad burned down their house and is in a mental institution. She is currently living with her Grandma, but is struggling through college having to work at a nursery in the local gym to get by. She fancies the pants off her new co-worker in the gym, Sage, but he is very distant and doesn't talk to her much, but she is determined to get closer to him!
Sage turns out to be the lead singer in a band, as well as working in the gym, and has lots of other secrets. He is drawn to Taylor, and when they eventually get together, she finds out things about the world she never dreamed was possible.
I'm a little on the fence with this book - it had so much potential, but seems to have got lost!! It took ages for me to get into the book, the background gave very little to go on and just jumped straight into the story. The middle part of the story was good and seemed to flow very well and I started to enjoy it. But the end seemed to come round very quickly, lots of loose ends and magical hybrid creatures springing up everywhere. Lots of stuff was going on for you to keep up with, maybe too much. Saying that I need to read the next book as I want to know how it all ends and ties together!! A 3.5 star read.
A Vampire rock band! How crazy cool is that?! Woot woot. OK this book started out normal enough (actually a good 1/3 of it), then at a party (of course, everything weird happens at a party) Talor's "date/but not date" changes... into something - she's not sure what or even if it really happened. Because after all - could something that strange really happen - she was drinking. Always blame it on the alcohol. But then her hot crush, Sage, tells her he's a vampire! Whaaat? For real?
From there the story just gets insanely fun. My only teensie problem with this is that I did not like any of the characters. Nope. didn't really like Talor, not even hot Sage. I just couldn't connect with them, they didn't feel real to me. But still a super fun paranormal story! Kind of an nontraditional, new twist on the old vampire story, refreshing.
And, I have to say for her first book - its a good one! Definitely makes you want to read the next! I personally am looking forward to FOR THE AGES, book 2.
I voluntarily posted this review after receiving a copy of this book from Xpresso Book Tours - Thank You!!
At first, I hated this book and that made me scared because I’m going to be on the blog tour for it in March. But, I took a little break from the book, and then I fell in love! I don’t know what changed, though I think it could be the scenes with Sage in them. I love him and hate him, it’s all very confusing. Also, I can’t believe that the Sage from the beginning of the book is still the Sage from the end. He changes...A LOT.
The reason why I gave this book a three star rating is because the main character seems a little stupid and hopeless. I got tired of the phrase “my lip started to tremble.” And how many times does she have to run away from someone or some place crying?
Although there were those previously mentioned reasons to not love this book, it was still super great. Even though they could be totally cheesy, Sage and Talor were SO CUTE!!!!!!! This book was super silly, but still something you should check out.
For my full review click here. // // // // It wasn’t entirely clear what Long Live Dead Reckless was about from the start. The “supernatural” component was really convoluted and vague. And it didn’t even come in until almost the middle of the book.
Talor was really going back and forth in her thoughts and as a character, she really annoyed the hell out of me. Focused, almost solely, on this random guy, Sage. But she was feeling super attracted to the other guy Spencer.
I hated that. I lost patience for stupid love triangles around the same time that The Hunger Games was trying to convince me that it was fine.
a friend recommended this book to me and when I heard the next one was coming out soon I knew now would be the perfect time to get caught up. I'm so glad I did! The imagery made me feel like I was watching a movie. The characters are genuine and real. I feel like Talor and Sage are friends of mine now and I'm rooting or them! I know a guy like Spencer IRL. I can't wait to find out what happens to everyone but especially Talor and Sage! Long live dead reckless!!
I am interested in this type of genre and found this to be not only an exciting read but kept me coming back for more. I highly suggest!!! Keep them coming.
Okay, first, WHY IS THE TEXT GRAY. I CANNOT SEE ANYTHING. Was it colored on paper?? Because I have the Kindle version. AND THERE ARE NO COLORS ON KINDLE. GOD.
And then, the characters. Like, I've NEVER had a boyfriend, okay? And I know that her flirting is TERRIBLE. RIGHT AWAY she asks him what's his last name so she can play MASH? So that's either doing "Fiona Charming" all over again or using one of those stupid things where you write the name of your crush and yourself and see how much chemistry you have?? Like, have you heard of subtlety? Being smooth and charming? I could do better than that!
And the back cover totally lies. "Talor Gardin may be a princess, but her life is no fairy tale."
What is she a princess of? She's some dumb, shallow girl working a some random place for college money! I expected something like an explanation at the beginning, like how she is a princess but lost her kingdom or something. That would've been cool! And there is a recap at the begining, and they don't mention anything about royalty! I understand it might be a twist, BUT DON'T PUT IT ON THE BACK COVER. It's the first sentence!!! GRAAAH.
"A year ago, her mother died and her father burned down their house. Now with a father in and out of a mental ward, she’s working a minimum wage job to finish her last semester of college."
Again, never mentionned. You'd think she's have issues with that happening, but nope! she's flirting with guys, ebing dumb and bitchy. Yaaaay.
"To make matters worse, she gets itchy every time a guy makes a move on her. The itch could be anything, really: a desire to escape her haunted hometown, a financial windfall, the name of some vampire…or all the above."
Okay, again, nope. she goes to Sage because he's cute. She's doesn't know him, if he's rich, if he's gay, if he's new... and what is the deal with vampires?? SHE MENTIONS THEM ONCE IN THE BEGINNING AND THEN THEY ARE GONE. Do not get me wrong, I understand waiting and stuff, I do it, but it's like: I met a vampire once lololol here's me flirting with this random guy that's more interesting right?? I get that he's the vampire, but can you stop with the cheap bullshit and just get to the interesting stuff??? I KNOW they'll get together because she says it in the goddamned beginning!!!
"Whatever the reason, she thinks the answers are written in the freckle constellations of her cute new coworker, Sage Talis." I'm pretty she's just horny for him dude. Very horny.
"Sage is the quiet, polite type with plenty of secrets – like fangs and a price on his head – and Talor can’t figure out what makes him so irresistible until she hears him sing." WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG THEN?? I'm serious, we don't even see them talk apart for her being the dumbest whore on Earth and him being indulgent. This is like Travel Glasses with the problem of putting the important stuff in the description and instead showering us with useless shit! I don't care about Larissa! I don't care about your stupid BFF! I don't care about Spencer! I want to see this romance but you keep shocing other stuff in my face!!! Stop!!
"But when cryptic letters appear on her wrist, Talor is thrust into a world where fantastic creatures lurk just below the skin, strangers keep calling her a princess, and everything she's been through is nothing compared to what's coming." Well with how she seems super fine, I'm guessing that won't be so bad. Shame that I won't get there, but I'd like to keep my eyes a little longer, thank you. And GET A GODDAMNED EDITOR! AND LEARNING WRITING NARATIVELY, TOO.
Also, I thought she'd be a young adult but she's alos like 23? Lame. LAME. KILL URSELF TALOR.
This is not my typical genre but I was enthralled by the storyline and the author (she gave an inside view of what it's like to write a novel from start to finish on her website). I started and I couldn't put it down. I was reading the e-book on scroll mode so didn't realize that I was already so close to the end. I never saw it coming! I got to the end and thought... wait what?! It can't be over already! I'm not sure I can wait that long for the sequel, to find out what happens! The story is exciting and action packed but there is plenty of character development so that you get to know the characters and you care about what happens to them. The descriptions and imagery are well done. You feel like you are there watching these events unfold. There are also several laugh out loud moments as you realize Talor is definitely the kind of friend you'd want to hang out with. I highly recommend grabbing this book off amazon. You don't want to miss this adventure. Long Live Dead Reckless Safari Spell
Talor is an ordinary girl with a job, sick father and a dead mother. Until Sage turns up. After that unexplainable things start to happen. It’s a love story with a lot of twists and turns and a lot of danger.
Things I liked
I have to say I loved everything. The story is beautiful and it has so much happening in it, it never gets boring. There is drama, love and friendship. There is fallen angels and supernatural beings. I really love the characters and how strong they are. This story isn’t a typical romance either and although it is sad, it’s still refreshing. I also like the way vampires are presented in this book. Vampires are the children of the fallen angels and that to me is a brilliant perspective.
I don’t really think there is anything I did not like. Spencer’s fate is something I hate and something I’m still confused about, but other than that, this story is perfect to me.
Conclusion
Long live dead reckless is a beautiful love story with a supernatural twist. Interesting and refreshing. I just love, love, love it!

This is the story of Talor Gardin, who has lost her mother and then her father ends up in a mental institute. Fighting off the advances of Spencer who then strangely disappears Sage suddenly shows some interest in her and this is where things start seeming funny, the feeling of being watched all the time, people keep calling her Princess. Sage, singer in the band called Dead Reckless, also works part time at the gym with Talor and weird things start happening and we discover that Sage and his band are really vampires There is this attraction between Sage and Talor, where will it last or not. This did end on a cliff hanger so look out for the next book Look forward to the next instalment in the Long Live Dead Reckless series by Safari Spell
There are so many great aspects of the book; the relationships, the twists, the bad guys; but there are a lot of things that drove me nuts. Perhaps the princess aspect is more important in future sequels, but it seems that it's just thrown in without any implications. The band is not terribly well explained, the need for jobs is not well explained, the transitory friendships are frustrating. I really wanted to love this book, but just couldn't get it.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A bit of a confusing book in places, but I did enjoy it. There were a few characters with different personalities found some of them a bit far fetched, but then it is a book of supernaturals. Still don’t really know what the base story is all about will have to read the next one to find out. Found the ending a bit sad.
This is an advanced copy so I would hope the editing is improved before it is released, there are many mistakes.
This was an exciting read with a new take on the Grigori and Nephiliam as well as vampires, werewolves and other creatures of the night. A true love story that ends in heartbreak and a cliffhanger that you can’t wait to finish.
I received an advanced review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book kept me interested the whole time. I wanted so badly to finish it, but never wanted it to end. The characters are relatable and likable (except the ones you have to hate and boy do we!), and the supernatural side makes in intriguing and fun to read. Seriously awesome!!
I’m was hooked within the first three pages. Read the entire book within 6 days because I couldn’t put it down. Can’t wait to get the next in the series. I highly recommend!
