Ancient Warlord, the tenth book in the Ancients Rising paranormal romance series, takes readers to the Nova realm and the home of dragons. Mia is a human artist who is a guest in this fascinating world. She came here to get away from an ex-boyfriend who frightened her with veiled threats after she broke up with him. She feels at home her until she overhears a conversation between two dragons talking about weak humans. As a former warlord turned assassin turned general of the elite guard, dragon shifter Tiber isn’t great with communication around women. When he meets his mate, he says the wrong things and doesn’t know how to fix the situation. But when it seems someone wants to get rid of Mia, he’s determined to protect her and prove they’re meant to be together.

Mia is a gifted artist who loves to paint. She has a terrible sense of direction and gets overwhelmed in large crowds. She prefers to blend in rather than stand out. She has a temperamental cat named Neptune. Tiber is protective, powerful, confident, and curious. She’s also grumpy and while he prefers battle, he can be diplomatic when he needs to be.

The story starts on the lighter side and contains humor throughout. I enjoyed getting to know Mia and Tiber and watch their relationship evolve. The dragonling Ilmari added additional humor as well as highlighting another side of Tiber’s personality. There are a couple of spicy scenes in the last quarter of the novel. My biggest quibble is that I wanted more suspense and action. It was basically all in the latter part of the book and over quickly. Despite this, I enjoyed the book and I’m looking forward to reading more books by this author. Threads of romance, found family, friendship, and jealousy are woven into the story.

Overall, this was an entertaining and enjoyable book with humor, great characterization, and a sweet, but slow burn romance. There are plenty of characters for future novels in the series.

I received a digital copy of this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own. The publication date was July 22, 2025.

Ancient Warlord by Katie Reus
Ancients Rising series #10. Paranormal dragon shifter romance. Can be read as a stand-alone.
The Nova Realm is a fierce matriarchal dragon world. The dragons are warriors, and assassins. The dragons have opened up their world to humans and others. Mia has been invited to live there because of her artistic talent. Tiber is a warrior and assassin guard, in charge of training the new warriors and protecting the kingdom.
Tiber knows Mia is his mate but he doesn’t know how to recover from her hearing him make a couple of rude comments about humans. Tiber vows to protect, possibly kill, a vampire threat to Mia, and she’s glad to have his protection. The more time she spends with Tiber, the more she likes him. Her laughter delights him and his dragon.
Now to just get rid of the vampire so they can move forward.

Ok, it’s a bit more complicated than that.
For me, their romance is sweet. He will do anything for her. From cooking and keeping her fed, to wrapping her in his dragon form to keep her warm.
Lots of funny quips. My copy is filled with highlights of comments that had me laughing out loud. Mostly their inner dialogue but Mia isn’t shy about speaking her mind.
Plenty of steamy sexy times. Many reinforcements of how he and his dragon feel about her.

Absolutely loved this couple’s romance story. I want a dragon!
Um…not really. I’ll stick to reading about them. Too large to fit in my tiny apartment.
Give me all the books for sure.
Favorite author and series.

I love this world and all the dragons. Especially the baby dragons who aren't shifters. They practically steal the show. Tiber was especially grumpy and he was pretty entertaining as he tried to make things right with Mia. And Mia was pretty clueless to why Tiber was so desperate to make things right. They were a cute couple and I enjoyed their journey.

We had to wait a bit for the next book in this series but it was definitely worth it. With Ancient Warlord Katie takes us back to the Realm of Nova.

Mia is a human artist who's found refuge in Nova after getting away from a bad relationship with a vampire. When he wouldn't accept her no and started harassing friends and family, she found it better to leave. She loves living in Nova, people love her art and she's found a lot of friends. The only one who doesn't seem to be happy with her being there is Tiber who's made his opinion about humans and particurarly her very clear. Too bad she has a cruch on the grumpy dragon!

Tiber is an ancient warrior dragon who hasn't really got a high opinion about humans. When Mia enters the room while he's telling his friend Mia doesn't belong in their world , he realises she's his mate and has hurt her in the worst way possible. He knows he needs to make amends but hasn't got a clue how. So when someone is set out to get rid of Mia, Tiber sees his chance and vows to keep her safe.

The way Tiber sets out to make things right with Mia were hilarious at times with him being all sweet one moment and overly bossy the next. Being in close proximity makes them see eah other in a different light and slowly he gains her trust. I loved how Tiber's team members were making him jealous just so he would finally take action. At first I thought we were going to get a secondary love story but I was wrong. I do hope however Katie will give us their story in a next book.

Ancient Warlord is an excellent new entry in this wonderful series that is one of my favorites and I hope Katie won't let us wait too long for the next one.

Ancient Warlord is book 10 in the Ancients Rising series and while I enjoyed it, there was just something missing for me. I loved being in the Nova realm with all the dragons and some who have never been around humans. So many new characters were introduced, and I hope they all get books. Now Mia is a human who has relocated to the Nova realm to get away from an ex that is causing trouble. She was a very sweet character, and it was hard to not love her. Tiber is an ancient dragon who recognizes Mia as his mate but unfortunately has been overheard not really liking humans due to them being weak. So of course, now he's on a mission to win his mate. I loved Tiber, he was so grumpy, and his dragon had me laughing out loud. I loved the dragonling Ilmari and how sweet and tender Tiber was with him. I though Mia and Tiber were a perfect match. Now, I wish the Charles situation wasn't over so quickly same with Fjola. These two incidences were the only exciting thing with this story because overall it was just very sweet and easy.

I loved this book! Katie Reus delivers another addition in her Ancients Rising series that’s packed with heart, heat, and humor. And this time, it’s all about a grumpy dragon shifter who absolutely fumbles meeting his fated mate.

Tiber was all gruff edges and protective instincts, but it was his dragon that totally stole my heart. His inner beast had a blunt, hilarious way of expressing what he wanted (usually Mia), and his interactions with Tiber brought so much unexpected charm to an otherwise hardened, broody assassin. The dynamic between the two was one of my favorite parts. It gave Tiber depth and made him genuinely fun to root for, especially once he goes all in on protecting Mia.

Mia started out understandably guarded, still carrying wounds from the past and trying to find her place in this world of dragons. But watching her grow, stand her ground, and fully step into her strength was so satisfying. I was cheering for her every time she held her own and especially when she faced her greatest adversary.

This is what I would consider a bit of a slow burn although the attraction was instant. The tension simmered the whole time, and when things finally started clicking between them, it was intense and so worth the wait. You feel the bond growing between them through the little moments just as much as the big ones.

Another thing I really loved was the warmth that surrounded everything. This world is full of friendships that feel real. The banter, the teasing, the way they all have each other’s back. It made me want to hang out in their world just a little longer. That sense of found family really added heart to the action and romance.

If you love dragon shifters, fated mates, protective heroes who grovel hard, and heroines who come into their own power, Ancient Warlord hits every mark. Steamy, funny, heartfelt. I couldn’t put it down.

I was so excited to read Ancient Warrior, the tenth book in what has become one of my favorite paranormal romance series. The Ancients Rising series has some of the swooniest MMCs and romances, and I love the unique and ever-expanding world the author created. This story takes place in the Nova realm, a dragon realm filled with romance, danger, enticing and sometimes terrifying supernatural beings, and richly developed and compelling characters.

Mia is one of my favorite heroines in the series so far. A celebrated and exceptionally talented artist, her work is in high demand, and she's grounded, creative, and resilient. Mia's toxic ex, an elite vampire, enters the realm and disrupts the peaceful, happy life she carved out in the Nova realm. She's a strong woman trying to move on from the trauma of her past, and I loved how fiercely she held on to her independence.

I also liked that Tiber never tried to control or overshadow Mia. The pair definitely started off on the wrong foot with Mia overhearing Tiber insulting humans. Oof, his first impression was awful, but he more than made up for it. From giving her space when she needed it to teaching her how to fight and recognize poisons, Tiber respected Mia’s strength while doing everything in his power to protect her. His actions always came from a place of care, and I love how hard he worked to change her impression of him and to earn her trust. OMG, watching this centuries-old warrior unravel over a woman who wants nothing to do with him was fantastic - funny, endearing, and unexpectedly sweet. He's a ruthless and feared assassin, but when he's with Mia, he's a tongue-tied mess who says all the wrong things. Their dynamic had sparks from the beginning, and their chemistry was amazing!

There’s also a suspenseful storyline threaded through the story, with someone targeting Mia and Tiber going full protective alpha mode in response. Loved it! It was intriguing and intense, which made for a quick and entertaining read. I also adored the found family feel vibes! Tiber’s warrior friends were fabulous - fierce, loyal, and just as compelling as the main couple, and I'm hoping a few of them will be the focus of future novels. And a special shout-out to Ilmari, the cutest, bravest, and cuddliest dragonling! What a scene-stealer!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Katie Reus for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book....

mia is a very talented artist
tiber is an assassin dragon shifter

when these two met it wasnt the best mia overheard a conversation and tiber wasnt complimentary about humans..... since then hes been trying to apologise to mia who is having none of it.....

she had felt welcomed into their kingdom until this....

but it was the arrival of an ex... a vampire ex who made her extremely uncomfortable as before she had left her world for this one strange things kept happening to her friends and family and though she couldnt pin point it being this vampire it was easier to keep her distance....

but now he was here and she needed to escape from his nearness....

so much to her horror tiber was selected to take her to the art retreat..... and along with a dragonling off the went....

not a bad storyline though not nearly enough dragon fighting to my liking but it adds to this series so i am cool with it...

Mia is a wonderful artist and is living in the Nova realm with dragons. She’s known about paranormal, she dated a vampire, but didn’t know about dragons until recently. The vampire she dated is the reason she left Earth. When she first arrived, she overheard two dragons talking about humans and how weak they were. One of them was Tiber, a former warlord turned assassin, who is a general and a dragon shifter. Tiber can’t figure out how to get Mia to forgive him for his thoughtless words. She’s his mate and only wants her to be happy. When Mia’s ex shows up, Tiber will do anything to keep her safe.
Steamy but not until almost the end. Shifters. A cute dragonling. A bossy, overprotective dragon. A human woman who will not be a weakling. Loved them both.

Fated mates in a dragon realm...

Mia enjoys living in a dragon realm. Although she’s human, she knows of supernatural beings and things that go bump in the night. The dragons are welcoming and treat her as one of their own. That is, all except one whom she overheard saying he hates humans. Of course, that one dragon, Tiber, is the one that makes her tingle.

When former warlord turned assassin, dragon shifter Tiber discovers Mia is his mate, he knows he stuck his foot in his mouth and must figure out how to apologize and win her affection. While attending an art auction, he realized something, or someone, had upset Mia, which had his protective instincts kick in. Finding out the vampire she broke up with has entered the realm and is intent on taking her back, Tiber will do whatever is necessary to ensure Mia’s safety and win her heart.

Ancient Warlord is another fun read in the Ancients Rising series. Highly recommended book and series!

A new book in the kingdom of Nova !!

When I learned there was going to be a new book featuring Katie Reus's dragons, I was SUPER excited !!! It's one of the first series I read by this author, so there's a bit of a nostalgic feel to it for me =)

We'd seen Mia in the previous books and heard about her story with Tiber, and I admit I was super curious to see how their romance would develop ... And I loved it !

The romance was both cute and sexy, the plot with the toxic ex was great, and I loved Tiber's clumsy badass side, which complemented Mia's artistic and cute side perfectly !

In short, a light and sexy paranormal romance that's devoured way too quickly ! For those looking for a summer romance with magic and dragons, I recommend it !

PS : I REALLY need a book with Prima !
PS2 : Of course I'm going to reread the entire series as well as the original series !

For more pretty reviews 😘: My Bujo, all in color and books

Mia is a human artist that is living in Nova, a realm that is full of dragon shifters. She loves everything and everyone in the realm except for Tiber, the dragon shifter who hates humans. When the Queen asks Tiber to be Mia’s guard during the two week art festival that Nova is hosting, she begins to question everything she knows about the grumpy dragon. As trouble from Mia’s past (and the reason she moved from the human world) begins to stir up and cause problems, Tiber decides that her safety is his only priority.

Tiber is an ancient dragon shifter who has been through a lot in his hundreds of years. So when the Queen decides to sponsor a human artist to come and live in his world, he is not impressed. When he expresses his concerns and distaste for allowing humans to live in their world, he comes face to face with Mia – and discovers that she is his mate. For months he tries to apologize with no luck until finally he has a reason to ‘guard’ her. When there actually becomes a threat to Mia, Tiber will stop at nothing to keep her safe, hopefully gain her forgiveness, and win her heart.

This book was a very quick read. It is book 10 in a series of interconnected standalones. I don’t know that I missed anything but some pretty obvious cameos and a few references to individuals that came in the previous books, so I would say they are probably safe to read in any order. The writing is definitely more surface level so if you’re looking for something that is romantasy fluff this is for you. There is not a huge amount of emotional connection with the characters but it is a fun time that you don’t have to think too much about to enjoy!

I would recommend this to anyone who loves Roxie Ray’s Dragon Daddy shifter romance novels! Overall a fun read and I can see myself going back and reading the previous books if I need something quick and fun!

I love Katie Reus' Ancients Rising series, truly, and the dragon heroes she writes are among the best supernatural heroes out there. Tiber is no exception. And as heroines go, Mia is great. Kind and creative, she's no wimpy pushover herself. The two together are adorable. All that said, the story didn't fully deliver.

It's been a while since the previous book in the series, and it took me a while to remember the gist. It's not imperative to understanding this novel, but reading them closer together would have probably helped. This one takes place entirely in the Nova realm, and man, it seems like an amazing place to live (almost too perfect). I would have liked maybe some more scenes with Mia encountering differences between Nova and New Orleans, rather than offhanded comments about XYZ tasting like apples or ABC being similar to champagne. As it is, it's almost bland, like the human realm being, well, the way we all know it, while the dragon realm is perfection on steroids (minus one creature we briefly met).

The threat from Mia's past held promise but it played out more in Mia feeling fearful than it ever getting particularly suspenseful, and then it was dealt with all rather quickly in the end. As for the romance, Tiber and Mia have chemistry for sure, but it too wraps up rather quickly and without fanfare; even the actual mating happens off page.

In an author's note, Reus says this book was originally meant as a novella, but the characters demanded a novel. I'm not entirely sure I agree. I think some of the lazier or less eventful parts (like the trip to the artist retreat) could have been pulled or shortened in favor of more suspense. Or even a secondary storyline, perhaps fleshing out the Octavia/Nolan teaser into a subplot instead.

All that said, it's a good read that I recommend, especially if you've been following the series thus far.

I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!

Mia left the territory she had been living in after she broke things off with the vampire she had been seeing. But the vampire was controlling and didn't like the fact that she broke up with him, he wasn't about to let her get away with it. So after things start to go wrong, Mia knows it's her ex who is causing the problems so she moves to a new territory where she feels safer.

Mia is an artist and people love her art. At showings her art is always bought fast. Everyone is warm and welcoming except for the large, grumpy dragon, Tiber. He doesn't like humans much and she knows this for sure after hearing him say just that. What she doesn't know is that Tiber is her fated mate and now she has the wrong impression of him. Mia tries to steer clear of him but he seems to be everywhere she is so when he is tasked with making sure she has everything she needs, he takes his job more seriously when he smells her fear.

At first she is closed off about what is bothering her but when he gives her no choice but to be around him and shows her that she can trust him, that he's not as bad as she first thought, she opens up to him. He just wants to keep her safe and does just that. When her vampire ex shows up as a guest, that causes some drama but Tiber isn't about to let anything or anyone hurt his mate.

The more Mia and Tiber are around each other, the more their chemistry pulls them together until Tiber shows her that he very much doesn't hate her. These two are complete opposites but you know that old saying that opposites attract is right. This was a great story.

A Fiery, Grumpy-Sunshine Romance with Heart

Katie Reus delivers another engaging installment in the Ancients Rising series with Ancient Warlord. This paranormal romance blends dragon shifters, fated mates, and a compelling enemies-to-lovers dynamic into a fast-paced, emotionally resonant story.

Ancient Warlord delivers a thrilling mix of steamy romance, magic, and dragon lore that kept me hooked throughout. Katie Reus knows how to craft characters with depth and grit, and Tiber and Mia’s story is no exception.

I loved the push-and-pull tension between the two leads — their chemistry practically crackled off the page. Tiber’s gruff exterior paired with Mia’s fierce spirit created a dynamic that felt genuine and full of heart. The moments of vulnerability woven through the banter added emotional weight to their connection.

The world-building is immersive, with enough detail about the dragon shifters’ culture and powers to make the stakes feel high without getting bogged down. The pacing is mostly smooth, though a few plot points wrapped up a little quickly for my taste.

That said, a couple of plot points felt somewhat rushed, especially in the resolution phase, which slightly diminished the emotional payoff for me. Additionally, some secondary characters, who have potential to be interesting, didn’t get as much development as I would have liked, but I hope future books in the series will explore them further.

I was so mad when I found out who this book was about! The author has so many unresolved plotlines from all the previous books that made the existence of this book a mystery to me. Then she said that Ancient Warlord was supposed to be a novella and then things started making sense. I am still a little mad, because after finishing this book I have even more characters to worry about! And ship because there is a very interesting couple that is in the making! Instead of resolving things, we ended up messing them up even more.

Getting to see another part of the universe this world is set in was interesting and it could get its own series. There are mentions of our beloved characters, so we wouldn’t forget them and to place this book in the series but for most part we only see the new characters. And let’s be honest, even Mia is kinda new because we didn’t get to see her a lot in the past books. I didn’t like that Tiber’s comment was the justification for the delay to his and Mia’s relationship. It was silly and served as a point of friction for too long. On the other hand, I loved Tiber’s dragon. In my opinion this is the most we have seen of someone’s beast side. Usually the dragon/wolf is there but it doesn’t have as many opinions/commentary as Tiber’s did.

Overall, I enjoyed this fresh view of the world we got to know in the Darkness and Ancient Dragons series. Tiber’s possessiveness was exactly what I expected and wanted from him and Mia’s character was well written as well. I look forward to the next book ans I hope we will see the people of the Nova realm.

Mia is a human that has chosen to live among the dragons. She spends her time creating art that is loved by everyone. She fears that she will have to leave the dragons if her former boyfriend finds her. Tiber is a former warlord who now works as an assassin. As soon as he met Mia, he knew that she was his chosen mate. He fights his urge to be with her until danger comes knocking on her door. Will Mia run or will Tiber convince her to stay?
Mia is a woman that has lived through hardships but has found her place amongst the dragons. She doesn’t need to have a big growth curve because she starts the story as a complete character. The one thing she has to work through is fear of her ex-boyfriend. He is the bad guy, by the way. I like how Mia fits in with the dragons but chooses to keep herself separate as a defense mechanism. She feels the pull toward Tiber but she has no idea that she is his one and only mate. Tiber lives life in a very controlled manner. That means that he is able to control himself around Mia even though his instincts are to claim her. I like that when he learned about the danger she was in, he didn’t immediately take over. The fact the Tiber and Mia worked together (except when Mia was panicking) was nice. In the end I was rooting for them to succeed as a couple.
This is a sweet story about a couple born in different worlds. They have to work together to keep her safe while figuring out their blossoming relationship. I will definitely read more from this author in the future.

Ok, I've read the whole series now and had always intended to come back to the first book to give an over all review of the series. I'm not one to read "apogalactic" type books. I tend to stay in the genre of contemporary and staying in the current IRL timeline. This one was different though. It was cool where it started out in the present timeline, and you got to live through the changing of the world. I love the supernatural/paranormal genre and haven't read too many dragon shapeshifter books, this one was awesome as the human and dragon were separate beings, but the same. I also loved that there were so many different shifters and the crossover of characters from other books into other books was very well written. It didn't seem like it was forced to have characters from previous books show up in the current one. Overall this series was great, loved the world building. It was amazing to see the world fall into chaos, and watch it slowly build back up, but different. I really hope more books come out in this series, there were many side characters I hope get their own book. Prima (one of twins) being my most wanted.
I always like to comment of the art work on the covers. A lot of people will say "Don't judge a book by it's cover" It's partially true, but great artwork can draw people to the book, where were it a boring/plain cover, people might not look twice at it. I love covers with actual artwork, and/or portray the characters of the book. This cover was beautiful and was the reason I noticed it. Bravo!

Ancient Warlord is one of those stories where you are constantly shifting from one emotion to the next, laughing at the idiocy of males one second, tearing up at the hurts of the heroine the next, and then on the edge of your seat in suspense the next. In the end you learn a lot about Nova and the Dragons that call the realm home, but most importantly you learn that love can overcome the oldest of ingrained hatreds if you listen to your instincts and open your heart. Mia is an artist with an open heart, but how can she fight the pull she feels to the one dragon that so badly insulted her, even if he is one of the hottest males she’s ever seen. Now that her ex has found his way to Nova and is making her life hell again, its time for Mia to move on and she doesn’t mind if the hot dragon tags along, especially now that he’s showing a different side of himself—one she might just be able to fall in love with. Tiber hates that he hurt Mia’s feelings with his careless words, but now that her lie is in danger there is no other, he will trust her safety too, and if he has to basically kidnap her to keep her safe, well who is going to stop him? Tiber will put everything on the life for the woman that will be his mate, the most precious treasure to his dragon and the only woman that can complete his life, and he will do anything to earn her forgiveness. The fire and sparks between these two were fabulous as they argued, fought one another, and ultimately found their balance as lovers but through every moment their passion was blatant and unquestionable. I am looking forward to the next book, hoping we might have gotten a glimpse of the couple in this story (*wink wink, nudge nudge, Katie*) but whatever comes next, I know I will be first in line to sign up for a copy. Nothing beats Katie Resu’s ability to drag you into a story filled with dragons, vampires, magic, danger, passion, and love from page one to “The End” and I guarantee you’ll love ever minute.

“I’d rather gouge my eyes out with the femur bone of a giant deer.”
“That’s oddly specific.”
“I had my eyes gouged out in a similar fashion before we met.” Many years ago, and they’d grown back. “That’s how I know I’d prefer it to a party with a bunch of stuffy—”

I received Ancient Warlord by @katiereus as an eARC from @NetGalley.

Ancient Warlord is a Paranormal Fantasy Romance and is the tenth book in the Ancients Rising series. This book was fun to read. It had me laughing from the very beginning.

It’s a shorter book, under 300 pages, which makes it a perfect amuse-bouche in between heavier books or series.

Ancient Warlord focuses on Mia, our FMC, who is an artist and human living in the Dragon Realm. And Tiber, our MMC, who is a warrior dragon shifter that made a VERY bad first impression on Mia and his dragon half has been kicking him for it ever since.

Mia finds herself in danger and Tiber steps in as her guardian. The supporting characters are great, especially the baby dragon.

I took a star away because the book is building up to two things-the eventual confrontation with the villain and Tiber eventually taking Mia as his mate. In both these instances, I found them to be anticlimactic. I would gladly have read a more pages to have had more elaboration.

Overall, if you’re craving the Romantasy trope high, this book delivers. I read this book without having read the other books in thjs series and was able to follow along just fine. Though I’ll be going back and adding the 9 other books to my TBR since I enjoyed this one so much.

Tropes you’ll find:

Enemies to Lovers
He Falls First
Forced Proximity
Touch Her and Die
Found Family
Dual POV

Artist and human Mia has found a place for herself, and her craft, living in the realm of the dragon shifters. Her parents were never supportive and she has to blossomed in her new situation. When dragon shifter Tiber is assigned to protect her at the upcoming exhibition of her paintings, she remembers the disparaging comments he made about humans. For a brief time, she had been involved with Charles, a vampire, but his erratic behavior made her leave him. At her showing, she sees Charles and is concerned that he will approach her. She also believes that he was responsible for harmful incidents that happened to her loved ones. Tiber regrets the comments he had made and is finding himself arguing with his dragon over how to deal with his attraction for her. He believes that she is his mate, but how does he convince her to give him a chance? When he accompanies her to an artist retreat, he knows that there will soon be a reckoning with Charles. The strong feelings between Mia and Tiber, the mention of previous characters and the stunning cover made this a truly wonderful addition to this series! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

I’ve been a long-time fan of Katie Reus’s romantic suspense books. When 2020 hit us like a ton of bricks, I could no longer lose myself in my usual genres. So when someone suggested I try one I wouldn’t typically read, I thought it was a great idea and decided to plunge into her paranormal romances. Before I knew it, I found myself completely submerged in her Ancients Rising series. Ancient Warlord (book TEN! in the series…How did we get here so fast?!!) is a stand-alone title, but I promise you’ll miss some terrific adventures if you skip any of them.

After completely losing myself in this post-apocalyptic world within the pages of the previous books, I’ve been anxiously awaiting each new story, and Mia and Tiber’s did not disappoint. The push/pull, will-they-or-won’t-they, had me wishing I could shake them both several times over. They say dragons are stubborn, but humans aren’t far behind on that front! With each story, we get a deeper understanding of the secondary characters and the world, which leaves me anxious for more dragons. I’m very much looking forward to what’s next! At this point, I’m wholly invested in this world and will be hard-pressed to want to leave it anytime soon.

Mia never considered the scary dragon general, head of the Queen's guard, could actually have a soft side. It certainly wasn't apparent the first time they met and Mia had tried to keep her distance since then. Tiber, on the other hand, is determined to change her mind. And he's slowly succeeding. Mia finds there is much more to Tiber than she first thought. When she's threatened by someone from her past, Tiber is determined to keep her safe, because she's meant to be his.

I love a good dragon shifter romance/suspense. After all, dragons are strong, imposing, forceful . All things Tiber is as an assassin and head of the Queen's guard. But he's got a soft underbelly. He's respectful, he's caring, he's protective. And he's patient with Mia, taking his time and allowing her to get used to him, even as he knows she's his.

Tiber may be tough and scary, but he's part of a sweet, tender romance, which is interrupted by a past that refuses to let Mia move on. Written with a bit of sarcasm and humor, once again Ms. Reus treats us to a fun, engaging story full of interesting intriguing characters I'd love to party with.

Thank you to the author for a copy of this book. The thoughts and opinions are my own.

I've read a few of the past books in this and the other interconnected series, but it's been awhile. This book definitely stands on its own so you can jump in here. Mia is an acclaimed artist escaping a scary situation with her ex by accepting a long-term contract in the dragon realm. Tiber is an ancient dragon shifting assassin who puts his foot squarely into his mouth by insulting humans in general within Mia's hearing, then meeting her and immediately recognizing her as his fated mate. This puts him in catch up mode as he desperately wants to repair the damage his thoughtless words did, but instead finds himself utterly tongue-tied in Mia's presence.

I enjoyed watching Tiber stumble around trying to court Mia, while Mia remained utterly clueless as to his attraction and his intent. They were a cute couple. Although there was a huge power imbalance between them, it didn't feel like there was because Tiber was very careful to respect Mia's wishes and her boundaries. He never tried to overrule her and always respected her. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.

This is the newest installment to Katie Reus’s dragons/shifter story . I can confidently say that it will not disappoint her devoted readers!

Mia, a human visiting the dragon realm, is particularly charming. She has won the hearts of many, especially the royal family, despite her shy demeanor. An accomplished artist, Mia is preparing for an art show and during a visit from dignitaries of neighboring realms—an event that understandably makes her a bit anxious.

Adding an intriguing twist, Tiber has been assigned to guard Mia and ensure her safety. Although she finds him attractive, she knows he doesn't have a fondness for humans, especially after overhearing a conversation that suggested otherwise. Little does she know, Tiber is actually very drawn to her and never intended for her to hear those remarks; it was a misunderstanding that weighs heavily on him.

As the plot unfolds, Mia faces potential danger from an ex-boyfriend who is part of the visiting party, and it's heartwarming to see Tiber's determination to protect her at all costs.

Overall, it's a beautifully crafted story that's both enjoyable and engaging

This is book ten in The Ancient Rising Series and it is Mia and Tibet’s story and it is definitely a must read. Mia is a artist living in the dragon world and even though she is human she definitely feels at home exactly where she is and even happy to be there until dragon shifter Tiber says some nasty things and says that she doesn’t belong in there world which really hurts her and brings up really bad memories but also makes her angry. Tiber used to be a warlord but is now a assassin but when he meets Mia he ends up saying the wrong things and then he realised that she is his mate so now he needed to try to put things right between them if he is ever going to stand a chance to convince her that he is sorry and also wants to be with her. When Tiber realised that Mia was in danger he is determined to protect and keep her safe in anyway that he can regardless of the situation, circumstances or consequences involved because she is his to love, support and protect and he will do anything to keep her safe and show her that he is worth taken a chance on. This book will take you on a journey of twists and turns along with laughter, sweet moments, drama, trust, suspense, danger, friendship, grumpy dragon, female with a crush, hope, love and situations that will have you turning the pages and unable to put this book down as it is so addictive and kept your attention throughout. I can’t wait to read more books in this wonderful and enjoyable series.

Ancient Warlord by Katie Reus is the tenth book in the Ancients Rising paranormal romance series, and it delivers a delightful mix of heart, heat, and humor. The story centers on Mia, a human artist who has found a refuge in the dragon-shifter Nova realm, and Tiber, a grumpy former warlord and assassin dragon shifter. Their introduction is a disaster, as Tiber sticks his foot in his mouth by suggesting Mia doesn't belong in their world—a cruel remark that hits too close to home for her. Tiber quickly realizes Mia is his fated mate, but his initial fumble leaves him with a lot of groveling to do, and he struggles to make amends.
When a threat emerges targeting Mia, Tiber takes on the role of her fiercely protective alpha hero, dedicating himself to her safety.

I have been a huge fan of Katie Reus since I first read The Moon Shifter series well over 10 years ago. Those were the books that sparked my interest in the entire supernatural romance genre. I have read most of her books and they just keep getting better. She has a skill for crafting vivid, detailed worlds that instantly captivate the reader, ensuring a page-turning experience.

Ancient Warlord is the 10th book in Katie Reus’s Ancients Rising series, and it’s another thrilling addition to an already incredible world. Whether you’ve read the series from the beginning or are diving in for the first time, this book works both as part of the larger story and as a standalone romance.

I loved this book! It’s fast-paced, packed with action, and builds beautifully on the rich, fascinating world Katie Reus has crafted throughout the series. The world-building is top-notch—vibrant, immersive, and full of magic—and the characters are just as compelling. I couldn’t get enough of them!

If you’re a fan of romance, fantasy, and adventure all rolled into one, Ancient Warlord is an absolute must-read. I highly recommend it and cannot wait for the next book. I need more of this world ASAP!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I’m sharing my honest thoughts voluntarily.

I am so happy to revisit the world of dragon shifters. This series takes place in the Nova Realm where Mia took refuge in. Unfortunately not everyone seemed to happy to have humans join their realm. Mia overheard dragonshifter Tiber insulting humans so they definitely get off on the wrong foot. As soon as Tiber sees Mia he realizes that she is his mate and has to make things right. When someone targets Mia, Tiber gets his chance to step in and prove to her that there's more to him than her first impression.

I love the series and getting to learn more about the Nova Realm and the people that reside there. I loved how much of a grump Tiber could be, but he was also a big protector and supportive of Mia. Also theres a new dragonling and those are my fav! I wish the suspense storyline was a little more fleshed out, but overall this book kept my attention and I finished it in one sitting.

I would absolutely recommend it and it has become one of my favorites so far in this series.

Thank you to Netgalley and Katie Reus for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review

Such an entertaining series, I’m loving these alpha dragon shifters. Tiber is not just a dragon shifter, but also a trained assassin, and he knew the moment he set eyes on Mia that she was his mate, but sadly her first impression of him wasn’t the best and he must now try to win her heart. As much as Mia is drawn to Tiber, she really isn’t impressed with the fact that he was badmouthing humans to the other dragon shifters. I’ve got to say he really has no idea how to woo a human, he always seems to make things 10 times worse. It’s hilarious. He comes into his own though when Mia’s life is threatened. He proves he’ll do anything to protect her, and try his best to win her heart in the process. A highly entertaining, sexy and addictive storyline. I sure hope we get more of these dragon shifters. Each book can be read as a standalone but I would highly recommend reading them all in order. I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.
