A Whisper of Lost Souls

(Echoes of the Veil, Book Two)

Whispers fill the halls of Drakestone Academy.

Some come from the living.

Others... do not.

After a harrowing first semester, Elvana Vale returns to find the Academy steeped in unease. Dreams twist into nightmares. Shadows move where none should walk. And a chilling voice stirs at the edges of her mind, promising secrets better left forgotten.

As ancient forces awaken, students continue to vanish without explanation, and the line between reality and nightmare blurs. Elvana and her friends must navigate a labyrinth of riddles, hidden relics, and dangerous alliances—all while battling the darkness clawing at their own hearts.

At Drakestone, death is not always the end.

Sometimes, it is only the beginning.

The second installment of Echoes of the Veil weaves a haunting tale of loyalty, betrayal, and the thin, treacherous line between power and ruin.

Okay let me just start with the absolute love I have for this series. I received this ARC to review, and after reading the first book in the Echoes of the Veil series (A Portrait of Blood and Shadows) I knew I needed to keep going. There's just so much to this series that makes me need to keep reading.

I'm enthralled with Elvana and Samael, they have so much to work on and I think they will be absolutely wonderful.
Bethany and Edric might be my absolute favourite side character couple, they're so cute. They have such a sweet love and it's just so cute.
JULIAN THOUGH. He's the Ridoc Gamlyn of this series if you need a reference to anyone. He's absolutely the funniest character in this series, I was cackling multiple times but also cried my eyes out too.
Lydia and Leander made me smile with how loyal they are written, I may have cried a few times because of Lydia, she's so well written.
I swear to the gods if any of these main characters die off I will never forgive Danielle for it.

The story it self, for the adventure part, is absolutely amazing. It gives Harry Potter vibes in book one, while having such a different and good plot with relics and portals and Kings and Shadows and a really good Magic system. You have to just read it for yourself. You must.

A Portrait of Blood And Shadows is available on Amazon now!

🖤 Dark Academia, Gothic Vibes, Dark Fantasy, Slow Burn…this is book two in the Echoes of the Veil series. I loved this book and enjoying this series, can’t wait for book 3! I loved the dual POV in this book, adds more depth to the other characters.

I have to admit I am a little bit of Team Little Flame..

This book I don’t want to say too much about because well- it is the second book. The message in these books about not letting the shadows consume you and even in darkness there’s moonlight was just so real. I remember being in my darkest times but making it through and I could relate to the characters in my own way. the way Danielle captures your attention makes you never want to let go. I was genuinely sad when this book came to an end. I just wanted to learn more, I just want to know what happens next. I’m so incredibly excited for book three and I can’t thank Danielle A. Lincoln enough for this ARC, I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading about drakestone!

This book exceeded expectations. After having read the first one I was already enthralled in this story. And this book continues that and gives us even more. We get darker and more dangerous challenges. We get deeper bonds. More allies. Stronger characters, who are not perfect. The characters are realistic, they have flaws. And they have each other for support. They are in this to help their friends and they sure plan to make it out alive. I will definitely look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I appreciate having received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The second novel in the Echos of the Veil, this story has me invested. And I don't say that lightly. The way the FMCs and MMCs have their growth is displayed amazingly. The way the author grabs your attention is not only in the way she writes her characters and their interactions, but also in the way she can perfectly present a scene in my humble opinion is something truly amazing.

I am so glad I got to experience this for myself and am excited for the next one!

5/5🌟

Phew! Okay, when I tell you that I really liked the first book in this series, I did. But I loved this book!! The relationships and the friendship growth is amazing to read. I spent quite a bit of time in book one suspicious of several of Elvana’s friends. So, watching all the growth of each individual in our found family group in this book was so so rewarding!!
This is dark academia but in a poetic, high stakes paranormal fantasy way. The romance is a subplot…although it is good! And worth the wait. The confusion and frustration between the MCs in the beginning has a purpose and the wait is 👏🏼worth👏🏼it.
Seriously, if you like a magical academy setting, but make it adult and dark…look no further than the Echoes of the Veil series!
This is written in dual POV and has the occasional third POV. I didn’t find it difficult to follow though.
There is open door spice, not overly descriptive. I would rate it 🌶️🌶️ (2 chili peppers).
This is the second book in a series so while I wouldn’t say this book ends on a cliffhanger, it certainly doesn’t finish the story. It will leave you wanting to know more. Thank you so much to the author for the eARC. This voluntary review is my honest thoughts and opinions about this book.

Quotes that I loved:

“You don’t understand what you do to me,” he whispered against my temple, breath hot and uneven. “You could ask anything of me, and I would fall to my knees before the words left your lips.”

“Power isn’t earned through caution. It’s carved into your bones by pain. Tempered by purpose. Sharpened by discipline.”

And still, he held me. Still, he stayed. “I know,” he said, quiet, steady as the tide.

“I am not their afterthought. I am enough—because I say so.”

"Whatever you need, little raven, I’m yours."

"Live for both of us."

Actual rating: 4.75 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟💫

In this 2nd part of the Echoes Of The Veil series we follow two (and for a short time three) POVs as they not only attend a magical college, but also fight against the evil that slowly is gaining power.

The world:
We return to Drakestone Akademy. It is magical, mysterious and sometimes feels a little bit like Hogwarts, only for adults. The author has such a rich way of describing not only magical classes, but also the little kinks of a magical castle, hidden corners and whole worlds under our magic school. Whenever I picked this book up I felt like I myself was a student there.

The characters:
They are deliciously complicated, struggling witj things from family curses/herotsge all the way to not being accepted into a social group and bullying. They felt so real.
The author mainly focuses on a circle of 6 friends. And although that sounds like a lot of important people to tell apart, I found it surprisingly easy. Each character is unique and makes the story a little richer.

Found family:
With the 7 friends comes a strong theme of found family which I LOVED! Although our characters aren’t perfect, they are fiercely loyal to each other. No one is left behind.

The romance:
It was a sloooow burn, but not with the typical yearning. Every look, brush of the shoulder and touch had meaning behind it. So well written ♥️

Relics and ancient magic:
A lot of the plot is based on some ancient relics. They all come with their unique power plus an added side effect from using it (which doesn’t sound too bad, but is actually something that drives the plot quite a bit). It was a unique spin and the powers of the relics are distinct and just make sense - just like the consequences.

The writing style:
In one word: beautiful! Such a unique voice which describes feelings and magical lessons with the same love for details.

My only criticism:
There seem to have been two climaxes and at times I found it a bit difficult to figure out, which worry went with which climax. In the end it all made sense, it just got me confused in between.
It is the reason why it isn’t a full 5 ⭐️, but ‚only‘ 4.75

In short: it was a brilliant dark academia book and I can not wait for the next book in the series!!

Thanks to the author for allowing me to read it as an advanced copy in exchange for my honest thoughts 😊

A Whisper of Lost Souls was gifted to me by the author @_danii.a.lincoln as part of an ARC review.

A Whisper of Lost Souls is Book Two of the Echoes of the Veil Series by @_danii.a.lincoln. Following her first eventful semester, Elvana Vale returns to Drakestone Academy only to find that the shadows seem to be devouring the light and misting their way across the grounds more than ever before. Elvana clings to her Raven’s Echo relic only to find that it is changing, evolving… and not in a good way. It is no longer guiding her, but rather seeping into her and pushing her towards the Darkness. Elvana and her friends discover the only way to save her is to face the shadows and hunt down the remaining relics before she is fully consumed by the lost soul of the Vale ancestors. Are Elvana and her friends strong enough to fight darkness and survive their own insecurities to save themselves and their school?

I read this book directly after Book One: A Portrait of Blood and Shadows. This left all of the characters fresh in my mind. I had a strong sense that although throughout this novel, there was plot movement of the friend group looking for these relics, I found there seemed to be a lot of build up. I have a sneaky suspicion that Ms. Lincoln may be setting us readers up for big things in the Book Three? The last quarter of this book was more my speed and I really enjoyed the entire hunt through the Saturine Woods. It truly showed the grit and determination of the characters and how much they would give to save one another. Otherwise the rest of the book I felt was more of background noise, but I felt it might be important for later … Maybe … it might be too soon to tell.

Again, I enjoyed the end of this novel, I wasn’t sold on this one for a bit there, but I’m glad I didn’t give up. The characters are really loveable as much as the relationship between Elvana and Samael is a little pushing obsessive (but it’s a fantasy book so of course it is!). I am invested now and will need @_danii.a.lincoln to write the next one so I know what happens with the crown … that’s all I will say on that.

Overall, I did enjoy this novel. I thought it initially was a bit slower paced, but it did pick up. I thought the variety of characters in A Portrait of Blood and Shadows truly balanced each other out making Vale believable and relatable even though she can do magic. If you like a novel with a female main character energy looking for her identity while on the hunt to understand her family’s legacy with a dash of magic this is the book for you!

**ARC Review**

Stars: 3.5
Spice: 🌶️

This is book 2 so I’ll try to not spoil!

Over all I did end up really enjoying this book! Loved seeing all my favorite characters again, and seeing all the new trials they would have to face!

What kept this from being a solid 4 ⭐️ was the fact that Elvana and Samael refused to even have a conversation with each other for a good bit of this book, not so much miscommunication as a refusal to communicate.
(Which was later explained but still irked me haha)And also Elvana’s inability to convey her feelings and the need to just keep things bottled up. I do wish she would have at least leaned on her friends more especially in the beginning when things were starting to gear up!

This book definitely started out a bit slow and was a bit harder to get into I’ll admit so it took me a bit longer to read. Once it picked up though man it was HARD to put down and felt like it went by too quickly!

I absolutely loved being back at Drakestone Academy! After the haunting beauty of book one, A Whisper of Lost Souls pulled me in even deeper. The atmosphere is chilling in the best way..where whispers in the halls, vanishing students, and blurred lines between dreams and reality keep you turning the pages late into the night.
Elvana’s story continues with so much heart, tension, and mystery, and the friendships and secrets make everything feel even more high-stakes. This sequel perfectly balances eerie gothic vibes with emotional depth, and it left me both creeped out and completely enchanted. If you loved the first book, this one raises the bar and proves why this series is a dark academia gem. 👻✨

This series has my HEART. Good LORD.
I didn’t know how book one would be able to compete with another, but this one pulls you in right away. It’s a little more darker than the first book, but it is absolutely packed with dark magic, love, friendship, found family, slow burn, bloodlines, legacy, relics, and a dark magical war just beginning.
I can’t say much more than that without adding some spoilers in to be honest.
I loved Harry Potter when I was younger and this absolutely fuels my soul as an adult now lol. This series is everything. It’s so easy to get sucked into it! I can’t flipping wait for the next book!! 👏🏻

I really enjoyed coming back for my second year at Drakestone. I love the characters. The tension, the slow build of romance, the spice, and the new trials kept me wanting to read more and more. I liked that the story clearly didn’t reveal everything yet- it’s clearly building toward book 3, and I’m excited for what’s next.

Reading this right after book 1 was perfect. I wasn’t ready to leave this world, and book 2 gave me exactly what I needed.

The second book in this series pulled me in from the very first page and did not disappoint. The writing is beautiful and kept me fully invested from start to finish. This installment took things even darker, with higher stakes, more danger, and new challenges that kept me on edge the whole way through. It was everything I hoped for and more, and it has me even more excited for what’s to come next in the series.

Book two is just as good (if not better than) book one! The writing and story is delightfully metaphorical (I genuinely don’t know if there’s a better word, so this is what we’re going with) in all of the ways that the characters struggle with the voices in our heads telling us we’re not good enough in any multitude of ways. You will spend the entire book on the edge of your seat genuinely wondering whether or not our main cast of characters will make it out of this intact. On top of all that chaos and emotional torture, we get an utterly delightful romance that has me in love and OBSESSED. There’s all the tension we adore so, so much and these two have me in my feels and feeling all the emotions right alongside them. And it’s also surprisingly funny throughout all the intensely emotional chaos.

✨ A series perfect for spooky season ✨

Book one introduces us to a cozy, magical world—think Hogwarts vibes but for adults. A school where mages train and are sorted into houses, but that’s where the comparison ends. This story is whimsical and enchanting, with romance woven throughout. Samael, the grumpy mage with a shadowy past, and Elvana, an older student unraveling her family’s secrets, make for a duo filled with tension, yearning, and moments that keep you glued to the page.

Coming October 3rd: A Whisper of Lost Souls (Book Two).
Where book one was light and mysterious, book two leans into the dark. Elvana learns the true meaning of found family while navigating shadows, jealousy, and the chilling question: Who is the Shadow Lord? It’s a story of mystery, romance, and seeking light in the darkness—the perfect read to carry you into spooky season. I can’t express how enjoyable this book was! By the last chapter I was yelling, I need more! I cannot wait for book three.

Thank Danielle for giving us a series that lets us embrace both the magic and the dark. 🖤

My Thoughts:

I found this book just as captivating as Book 1. Elvana and her friends go on another magical journey. They do pick up a couple more allies. Elvana and her friends find new clues to find another relic.

They are all faced with inner battles that they must overcome. I love the banter between the characters. You really become attached to the characters. Even the side characters leave you wanting to know more about them. I love how the romance is written in. The romance between characters are a true treasure.

You really do get left wanting .more. If you a fantasy reader looking for a new magical world give Echoes of The Veil Series a read. Book 1 currently available on Kindle Unlimited

This is the second installment in the Echoes of the Veil series, picking up two weeks after the events of the first book, with the students having gone home for break. The transition between the two books is seamless and consistent.

By chapter five, I was already hooked—I stayed up until 4 a.m. because I simply couldn’t put the book down. The first half was captivating and made me want to abandon all obligations just to keep reading. The second half did drag a bit; it felt like the book could’ve been about 70 pages shorter but was good all the same.

I absolutely loved the yearning in this installment—it’s some of the best I’ve read. I also enjoyed the potential love triangle that emerged. It intensified the yearning and slow burn, and added an element of uncertainty to the endgame couple, which I’m all for. Other relationships also developed throughout the story, adding more layers of romance while leaving room for further development in the series.

The characters themselves didn’t get much development. The main character’s background was partially revealed, but as I mentioned in my review of the first book, this makes sense since their backstory is tied closely to the overall plot, which is being gradually unveiled. However, we still didn’t get much depth into the side characters. While it’s understandable that side characters wouldn’t be as developed as the protagonist, I would have liked to learn more about their histories and personalities beyond the academic setting.

The plot itself was great—I love the story and the way it’s unfolding. The eerie atmosphere and psychological tension are both compelling. The plot is strong enough on its own that some of the book’s weaker elements can be overlooked. I’m genuinely intrigued to see where things are going, and I can't wait to get the full picture. This is definitely one of those plots that keeps you guessing until everything is finally revealed, which I absolutely love.

The pacing was a bit confusing at times. I occasionally had to go back and reread to figure out how much time had passed between events. The flow of days and nights didn’t always seem to line up with what was happening. That said, it wasn’t so confusing that I couldn’t follow the story or felt the need to stop reading.

The spice level increased in this installment but remained tasteful and not over the top.

The book didn’t end on a cliffhanger, which some can appreciate.

Overall, I think this was a solid read. If the second half hadn’t dragged a little, this would have been a 4.5-star read for me. I actually found it more captivating than its predecessor, but I did have to give it a 4 just because of the slight dragging. This book would be great for fantasy beginners and YA readers, but it’s still enjoyable for more mature audiences. I’m really looking forward to getting more answers in the next book—and to seeing how the romance unfolds.

I received this book as an ARC, and am willingly leaving my review 😊
The slow build up almost seems like it takes too long to get to the pinnacle, but when it comes, you realize the whole journey was worth it. It brings you right to the edge, and then the author snatches it away and leaves you gasping and wishing for more.
The characters in this story were fascinating in book 1. In book 2 they felt like people I knew and was definitely rooting for.
The slow burn between Sam and Elvana was almost unbearable. The “Will they or won’t they” was like watching a soap opera. But witnessing their journey to togetherness is 🥵
Book 1 felt adventurous, it felt lighter, and it felt a bit more romanticized. Book 2 is tragic, it is devastating, and maddening in a way that makes it so hard to put down.
It will build you up just to rip the rug out from underneath you! The language used to describe this story paints such a vivid picture, it feels like you could be sitting within the confines of Drakestone Academy, bearing witness to the friendships and found family our wonderful main character group has. It feels as though you’re walking right beside them all. Sometimes Danielle gives us repetitive descriptors, and you think “man, she needs to use different words” but then you get to the next part of the story and you realize the repetition is so very intentional. It’s incredible.
Still has Harry Potter vibes- but far darker, more sinister, and less “happily ever after”.
Elvana, our broody FMC, is beginning to own her own journey. So fierce- only letting her guard down for such small moments, it’s almost hurts. My relationship with our MMC goes from “awe I love them together” to “HOW COULD HE DO THAT TO HER”, to 🤯🥵wow.
They’re on the cusp of something- be it a tragedy, a reckoning, an adventure- but it is going to be BIG! And I can’t wait to see where the journey leads.
My only reason for 4⭐️ is that it felt a bit long. It is incredibly written though!

This book continues straight on from where book one left off and we see the adventure, mystery, and relationships get even stronger! Just like book one, this has captivating and evocative writing, that has you feeling like you're right there alongside the characters. The pacing of the story was good (in book one I felt like it was a little off in the first half), and it brought in the pov of the MMC plus another character.

The core mystery / adventure really progressed through the book. There were plenty of twists and turns, and I felt like I was on the edge of my seat for a lot of it! I did not predict a lot of what happened, and loved being surprised.

Throughout the book, I really enjoyed seeing how the characters grew, both as individuals, and in their relationships to one another. Their journeys were believable and relatable, especially the part where (without giving spoilers!) they are facing down their fears. By the end, I felt very connected to them and I am very invested in what is happening for them!

The MC romance is beautiful, but there's still a way to go before its 'happily ever after', so its keeping me on edge there. There have the absolute sweetest moments, and I neeeeed more of them.

I know future books are planned and I would love to see in them some more world building and background to the whole magical war situation (maybe we can see beyond the academy?!). And I would definitely love some more exploration of not just our MC romance, but also the romances of her friends. Can't wait to see what comes next!

I received this as an ARC.

Yet again, we have book 2 of Echoes of the Veil series that continues to fill the hole that Harry Potter left in my youth. I am adoring this story as it's unfolding and I cannot wait to read more!!

First, I recognize that this (and book 1) are categorized as "dark". I am just going to disagree, this doesn't feel dark to me at all. Maybe a touch gray at points, buts this (and book 1) and both extremely enjoyable, they are not stressful to read, they don't feel tense (there is good tension between Elvana and Sam though). I think this is worth mentioning for people who might see "dark" and turn around looking for a "cozy" fantasy. This is very much a happy middle, in my opinion.

Second, we really get to know more of the characters here and they are continuing in Drakestone and on the hunt for relics. I don't want to discuss too much of the story for fear of spoiling the mystery and adventure. But what I will say, is this slow burn is so enjoyable! The read is easy and fun. It's adventurous. I want to share it with everyone. I truly think this book could be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of their normal interests. It's well written, good character building, great world building. You will find yourself kicking your feet and rolling your eyes in so many instances with the characters.

Overall, everyone should pick up these series and give it a go. It's enjoyable, adventurous, and mysterious with little steamy with a slow burn romance on the side :)

That moment you see you didn't review the book.

I offer the vestiges of my black soul as a sacrifice. Wait, you already own that 😂

Elvana is back and more determined than ever to locate the relics. The shadows and darkness lay in wait whispering promises of power and the growing need to escape her pain, ready to possess her the moment she breaks.

Samael isn't spared either. He's plagued with dreams of ash, blood, ruin and betrayal. Dreams promising answers, power, and retribution that lead him to make hurtful decisions. Ones that cause a new player to encroach on his territory losing everything he's built.

Meanwhile, Vivienne still tries to sink her claws into Samael. So much so I made multiple comments about needing some sort of hex that singes her. As well as one that mutes her, but without her knowing.

Unlikely friendships and alliances form. The stakes are higher. The costs---deadlier. Time is running out.

What happens if the other, searching for the relics, reaches it first?

Does Elvana give in to the darkness to escape her pain?

Does Sam lose everything to learn the answers to the questions that are ever-present?

You'll have to read the book to find out!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I had the pleasure of editing and proofreading this book, which was a ridiculous amount of fun. Watching Danielle take something from, you know..."Good" to 😱🤯 after just a minor suggestion was incredible.

A Whisper of Lost Souls – Woohoo I’ve been patiently waiting for Book 2 after reading Book 1 and absolutely loving it and Book 2 did not disappoint. It takes us back to Drakestone Academy after a two-week break with their families. The plot is unfolding, and the stakes continue to be high. This is a high paced rollercoaster adventure. I love the ride or die friendships and the trust they all have with each other, which is being tested. I was a little annoyed with our FMC and MMC with their lack of communication at the beginning, but it is part of the bigger plan, and it finally gets resolved and back on track. The high-stake trials were really neat, and I liked how they were written. I absolutely loved the unfolding secrets of the relics and it’s exactly what I was hoping would be expanded upon within this book. Overall, I really enjoyed the story, and I loved seeing all our characters back together and the friendships that continue to be solid. I’m looking forward to finding out where it goes from here!

Thank you so incredibly much to the author for an advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.

This book was provided to me as an ARC, and I am so thankful for that. I got to read this book and the first book back to back and am now dying that I’ll have to wait for the next book to be written.

The book was paced fast enough to keep me interested and not feel like I was forcing myself to pick it up, while also providing enough background and world building that I didn’t feel anything was lacking or missing.

I love our FMC, it’s refreshing that she actually takes the help of her friends willingly instead of like so many main characters that feel they must do everything alone and protect everyone from getting hurt because of them. She understands that she needs their help, and there is a real possibility that one of them could get hurt or worse.

Our MMC on the other hand, I am unsure how I feel about him. He seems very up and down and indecisive but then also turns around and acts like he owns her at some points. What is it my man, make up your mind.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book and love the characters. Can’t wait to read the next one!

I normally don’t DNF books (especially ones I promised to review) and I really wanted to enjoy this book - and there were parts I did - but the pace was just too slow for me. It felt like even more than 60% of the book, not a whole lot really happened - and what did happen prior to that seemed at times random or written to fill up the book instead of always adding to the plot/story. While I did enjoy the dual point of view, it felt the POV of each character was written very similar that I would often find myself forgetting whose POV I was reading until context clues reminded me.

While I did love the visual descriptions and overall world building. The author did a wonderful job writing a captivating landscape for the story to be told, it was unfortunately not enough to keep me interested in reading. That being said, if you like a YA fantasy story that is a very slow build (lots of anticipation) that inspires Harry Potter nostalgia vibes - you’ll probably really enjoy this book.

⭐️4/5 | 🌶️1/5

This book wrecked me in the best way. The emotions, the tension, the heartbreak woven into every chapter—it had me clinging to the pages like my life depended on it.

Sam and Elvana’s slow burn is the kind that hurts. Every stolen glance and lingering touch felt like it carried the weight of a thousand unspoken words. It’s the kind of romance that makes your chest ache while you beg for more.

But what really makes this series shine is how layered it is. The friendships, the banter, the struggles, and the magic all blend together so seamlessly that you feel like you’re right there with them—fighting, laughing, hoping, and breaking alongside them. Even the side characters demand your heart.

If you love fantasy that makes you feel—the kind that leaves you gutted and desperate for the next book—you need the Echoes of the Veil series in your life.

I appreciate receiving this book as an ARC, and since receiving it I am giving an honest review.

It was unfortunately a 1.5-2 star read for me. Which I was shocked about since the first book I gave a 4 star review.

Yes the characters have grown, and this story really could be quite interesting. But it took me two months to read this. The only reason I didn’t DNF it was because I don’t like DNFing books. I felt relief once I was done. The story was just wayyyy too slow this time around for me, there was so much repetition in the writing, and I found myself annoyed while reading more so than enjoying the story. The way the book was edited was not great,
so
many
single
word
or
two word
sentences….
which I couldn’t stand by the end. And describing things with the same word, did I mention repetition? Anyways, unfortunately not a great read for me and I will not be continuing the series.

This is the second book of Echoes of The Veil series and my god, it didn’t disappoint!

The world building, the descriptions, the characters, everything was perfect!

I loved how we see more of the friendships between the characters. Each of them brings something to the story and it’s so easy to get attached to them like they’re your friends and you’re with them in everything they have to go through.

I also loved the search for the missing relics and how intense it was! I was so hooked and I couldn’t put the book down.

I will not say more because I don’t want to ruin the story for you.

Finally, I loved how the relationship between Elvana and Samael became stronger. They’re literally soulmates and it was nice to see their flaws, their downs and their ups. Love is their greatest strength.

So if you love dark academia, slow burn romance, fantasy, magic, this book is for you.

I loved book 1 and could not wait to find out what happened next here!

My Synopsis: Elvana and her friends must learn to work together with Samael and his friends to destroy the relics. Their two teams attempt to come together to save themselves from the ancient forces awakening, ready to destroy the realm. After all, death can be the beginning, not just the end.

What I enjoyed:
- The trials were challenging and had me on edge as to whether the secrets they held inside would be told to all.
- The relationship development between the MMC & FMC. I'm glad he pulled his head out of his ass.
- The side characters are just as loving as the main characters. I LOVE THEM ALL! And some even get their own POVs!!!
- Julian and Leander have got to be my favorite banter peeps in this series and for most series. They are HILARIOUS!

What I didn't enjoy:
- Sometimes, the FMC was too stubborn to understand her surroundings and the danger. It's a plot point, along with the miscommunication between the two, but it was just really bothersome. It's the only reason this is a 4 instead of 5 star.
- Vile snake was not resolved... I think her name is actually Veronica in the story but I just called her vile snake in my head when her name appears...

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 it's getting hot in here! Good lawrd... They have some very spicy scenes that are... deliciously done.

I'd like more Caelan, please and thank you.

This was received as an ARC and all content herein is my true and honest opinion.

Welcome back to Drakestone Academy - where whispers fill the halls - some come from the living - others do not.

We survived the first semester and now its time to return to the unease, the secrets, shadows and nightmares.

Students are vanishing and Elvana and her friends must figure out riddles and try work together with Samael and his friends to destroy the relics. The trials were exciting and kept me on edge of my seat. The plot is good and keeps you engaged and the love story is unfolding nicely.

The second half of the book drags a little and so the book could have been a little shorter but that does not stop me looking forward to the next book in this series Echoes of the Veil

This one was just as exciting as book 1. This book delved a bit deep into each character, giving you a reason to fall in love with each of them. I loved Elvana, Sam, Lydia, Leander, Bethany and Edric; but I’d be lying if I said I loved them more than Julian. I love him so much! The way he’s always cheering his friends up with his jokes and quips. His fears broke my heart and made me want to shelter him from everything. However the dynamics between him, Leander and Lydia was a pleasant surprise to read. I didn’t expect it work so well.
The themes behind this book were reassuring. Even though it was a bit darker than the first, the messages it communicates to the reader were real and heartfelt. The fear of failure. Loneliness. The darkness.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Looking forward to book 3.
