No quería ayudarlo. Pero cuando me ofreció exactamente lo que necesitaba para cumplir los sueños de mi madre enferma… no pude decir que no.
¿Qué hará Aster cuando se dé cuenta de que Tanner no es en absoluto lo que esperaba?
Not going to rate it because I DNF’ed this one. Approximately 30 pages in and BOTH the MC’s were annoying me and the story was taking just entirely too long to get going. 🚩🚩🚩
Just so you can understand where I’m coming from, after those 30 pages in, we were still in the SAME place that the story started. The library. Setting hadn’t moved at all. And believe-you-me, it was definitely getting stagnant. 😩
Then there’s the matter of the MMC. It starts with him in the library trying to study and waiting for his new tutor because he has to improve his grades if he wants to play football which is apparently the ONLY thing he wants to do. We have a lot of inner monologue going on about how stupid he is, how embarrassing it is to have been benched because of his grades, how he gets annoyed with people treating him like a celebrity including thinking it’s ok to be all up in his business, and how he doesn’t like people approaching him to talk to him about football. Then enters his new tutor which is NOT the girl from the blurb. No this is supposedly a dumb, hot, rich girl that paid someone off to be assigned as his tutor for the opportunity to meet him.
Apparently several other girls have done this in the last couple of weeks and he’s tired of it and wants nothing to do with them. “God, do all girls think every football player is a horny dog?!” Why yes, Tanner, we do because most guys, especially your age, generally are and would love the idea of pussy being thrown at them, but I guess you’re too special to accept just any trophy pussy being freely given to you…
So as I’m sure you can imagine, Tanner gets upset and finds Ralph, the guy in charge of coordinating his tutoring services, and of course he’s in the library too, complains to him, finds out that Ralph has been accepting bribes and gives Ralph one final chance to find him a suitable tutor. 😏
So then the POV changes to the FMC, Aster, who is also in the library when Ralph finds her. They enter their banter where the FMC demonstrates an attitude from hell for no apparent reason and flips the eff out when he asks her to tutor a football player! OMG, not a football player?! They get scholarships and everything handed to them, so they should be able to afford a private tutor…. she’s certainly not going to do it. That is until Ralph offers to give her ex boyfriend, who is also a dreaded athlete, the worst tutor he can find so he can flunk and lose his scholarship. At that point Aster agrees because she’s “petty like that”— her words, not mine— and I closed my Kindle and said yeah this stereotypical, immature nonsense is just not for me.
"He was everything I wanted, but nothing I thought I needed"
"The feminist in me is reeling, but my inner book girlie is squealing with delight"
Teach Me is the 4th book in the Covey U series and focuses on Tanner and Aster. We got hints in the previous book that Tanner was struggling with his grades and so his place on the football team was in great jeopardy. But he was somewhat of a mystery in the previous books so I wasn't quite sure what to expect from him. Well, let's just say he was definitely a dark horse.
The book starts with Tanner having a lot of frustration where he is trying to find the right tutor. Unfortunately, he keeps getting ones that are just looking to sleep with him. When he first meets Aster he assumes she is one of the "jersey chasers" and is unpleasant to her. When he realises his mistake he sets about trying to track her down and convincing her to tutor him.
Aster is book smart but she's also feisty, sassy and highly attractive. Sworn off tutoring athletes after a bad experience she doesn't want to tutor Tanner. But he eventually wears her down and they end up having a beautiful relationship.
Tanner is so sweet and probably one of the ultimate book boyfriends. He's calm in the way he goes about his business and I felt that Aster and Tanner's relationship was mature which suited the characters well. Aster tries so hard to be a feminist but she really just wants a guy to protect her. I loved her one liners though, but she had a real vulnerability to her behind her defences that Tanner was all too happy to walk through.
There were some really hot scenes in this book including a library scene that had the tension seeping through the pages, I was surprised they didn't burn.
I love how Ana connects all her books and although these can be read as standalones, you are better to read in order for maximum reading experience. She also knows how to write villains because as with her other books, I had some hatred for some characters because they are written so well.
Aster and Tanners story may just be the most sweet and beautiful stories in this series thus far. Tanner is just this 6’6” blonde QB who has such a respect for women because of his twin sister and is honestly everything you wouldn’t expect from a football player. Aster is just like the rest of us book girlies who loves to read and is really smart. She is a tutor and one of the best. I loved her sass and her attitude and when it came down to it she wasn’t letting any athlete take advantage of her after her ex. I had so many moments of kicking my feet and just absolutely adoring these two!
um yes. i loved this story. the first book that has officially gotten me out of my reading slump!
a jock x tutor romance story? oh i know it’s going to hit every SINGLE time.
tanner, oh my sweet boy tanner. i loved how attentive and caring he was. oh and the way aster had him folding. yeah he was down bad AND FAST.
aster, cute, feisty aster. she was hilarious but i also loved how she stood up for herself. she knew what she wanted. and to see her slowly fall for tanner was so cute.
their relationship was adorable. had me squealing and kicking my feet. how could i not?
Tanner is the college star football player but he needs help with his school work. After multiple girls “try” to tutor him, but actually just want an excuse to talk to him. He gets assigned aster, who is one of the top students. As soon as he meets her, he quickly assumes that’s she’s another jersey chaser and embarrasses her in front of the whole library. I think this book was super cute, and I love me a college sport romance. Especially the opposite attract!
Tanners book - oh Tanner you little Thor lookalikey dark horse! I can’t decide which book is my fave in this series I love them all but I DID NOT EXPECT THIS BOOK TO GO THE WAY IT DID!! I am in need of medical attention because WHAT?!? How was this having this effect on me! Excuse me Ms Shay Queen of sports romance how did you turn poor little Tanner into a sex god? And let’s not forget our Aster because again excuse me what? I have nothing else to say because WHAT?!? 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The best and strongest 4.5 I could give to this book. Wow I seriously just loved Tanner & Aster and their story. This was one of the better college sports romances I’ve read, no doubt. I may have to now go back and read these in their proper order. Just so happy with how this story flowed and loved so many small parts throughout it.
I tried to like this story, but I had to give up on it. I find Aster so unbearable, arrogant, and pedantic that it was impossible to see her as a protagonist and not as a villain.
I read this book before I realized it was the fourth in the series and now I’m going to go back and read the others. That being said, it definitely still made sense as a stand alone as the previous books follow different couples. I love the tutor/ athlete dynamic Aster and Tanner have and the banter between them. The FMC was very likable as well which I find that in this type of story she often comes across bitchy. I rate books based on how much I enjoyed them when I read it so I gave this a 4⭐️ but a harder critic might have a different opinion.
