Healing in Every Book of the Bible

Rate this book
Healing runs like a red thread throughout every book of the Bible. From the beginning in Genesis 1:27, “God created man in his own image,” it is clear we were designed for health and joy and not for sickness. Revelation 22:2 describes God’s eternal provision for life and blessing: “On each side of the river stood the tree of life . . . and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.”

In this book, Lester Sumrall has chosen a scripture from every book of the Bible which teaches that God wants us to be well in our total being—spirit, soul, and body.

Also discussed is the origin of sickness and disease, biblical reasons for illness, and why some people are not healed.

"The Lord Jesus owned all of heaven and He came down here, not to impoverish you, but to prosper you and to make you rich. One of the best ways to be prosperous is to be healthy." (Lester Sumrall, Healing in Every Book of the Bible)

God mentions healing in every book in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. God desires for His people to walk in divine health. This book starts off teaching on the origin of sickness and disease in the Garden of Eden. He says, "There was no sin, sickness, disease, or any evil work in the Garden of Eden until Adam and Eve rebelled against God by eating of the fruit of the tree God had commanded they not partake of...Because of their sin and rebellion against God, sin, sickness, and disease, and physical death entered the earth." This book then goes on to explain how Jesus, The Tree of Life, came and took away the sins, sicknesses, diseases, pain, poverty...on the cross. Through His work on the cross; all sin, sickness, disease has been nailed to His body, and we bear it no more. Further, Jesus took the keys of death, hell and the grave and stripped satan of his power; therefore, whoever believes in Christ shall not die, but have eternal life (See John 3:16).

The thing that spoke to me most from this book is that some of our choices can cause sickness, pain, disease, demon possession, etc. The Author says, "Many sicknesses are caused by the way people live: improper diet, lack of exercise, lack of proper rest, worry, and fear. Fear dominates the lives of many people. If you are afraid you are going to get sick, you will. If you are afraid you are going to catch something, you will. Fear should not have any part or parcel in the way we live."

There were also many other topics discussed in this book that I will not be able to go into detail here.

Healing is mentioned in every book of the Bible and the Author takes you through those Scriptures and dissects and opens them up for you, and helps you to see that God wants you to prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers (See 3 John 2). Healing is your birthright if you are a child of the living God! Amen.

Essentially, the message of this book is “believe hard enough and you will be healed.” Sumerall states that the reason you are not well is because you are a sinner and you can only get well if you repent. He further goes on to state that many terminal illnesses and other incurable diseases are spiritual sickness and reiterates that those people need to believe in order to be healed. Of course, Sumerall is a faith healer and had a miraculous recovery from tuberculosis himself, so from his point of view, I suppose his argument makes sense. For the rest of the world, no...you can be a believer, reprint of your sine, and still be ill. The last chapter also points out “healing” in every book of the Bible...but there are several books that have very tenuous claims to that (such as John 1-3). I suspect that Sumerall’s argument would be much more convincing at a tent meeting. As a book, no.
