This book really called out to me because for a long time I have been struggling with the overwhelming feelings I get from empathic data on a daily basis. I've found it difficult to distance myself from the emotions emanating from strangers nearby, and even harder to differentiate between my feelings and those of people close to me. I sought out this book, hoping to gain some wisdom and guidance for creating boundaries and learning to better interpret the empathic information I receive.
My expectations were met -- and exceeded.

Cyndi Dale clearly knows her stuff when it comes to recognizing, processing, and dealing with empathic data. This book goes into detail about the six different types of empathy, and how they might affect us in our daily lives -- whether it be in our own personal issues, in relationships, or at work. The book includes charts and worksheets to help you determine the strength of your own empathic gifts, and then provides a series of practical and very helpful exercises that can help you use, strengthen, and recognize these gifts in your everyday life.

Though some of what this book talks about goes a bit too deep into the spiritual realm for me, I still find most of the advice within very applicable to my situations. It has helped me recognize my gifts, the ways in which I've been having trouble with them, and I've already begun to use the tools and exercises provided in this book to build boundaries and help recognize which feelings are mine and which are not.

This is one book that I will definitely want to add to my physical shelves, because I know I will want to refer back to it time and again. I'm really grateful to have found a book like this, especially during a point in my life when I really needed some guidance in the area of empathy. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about empathy, understanding others, and/or understand their own feelings.

What a load of drivel. Empathy is an incredibly important capacity. It makes us better, kinder people but it can also be very dangerous. There is research that shows most people have less empathy toward people of different race, people they perceive as ugly, animals they don't find cute, which has negative impact on equality, wildlife preservation, creation of just societies etc.

Luckily empirical research shows existence a variety of interventions to improve empathy. I was hoping this book might talk about some of them, and work on correcting these biases.

No such luck. It's talking about The Divine mumbo-jumbo, horse whisperers, people who (somehow) ace their tests in school through power of empathy without ever studying or listening to lectures, anchoring your empathic processes in your own spirit...

I guess it's a lot easier to invent concepts rooted in nothing than write a well-researched book about actual social, cognitive, and emotional process of empathy in humans which has far reaching consequences for our world.

This is one of the only resources about supposed “psychic” abilities that I’ve found even remotely beneficial. Cyndi Dale is a good writer, and her base concepts are broad enough to apply to almost any faith or worldview. Her specific practices, like healing streams of grace, may seem hippy-dippy but can ultimately cause no harm. What’s wrong with positively focused energy aiming to benefit others? I really like her focus on empathy being about others, wholly and completely, even going so far as to give examples of misdirected empathy and how to avoid it. In all, I really enjoyed her concepts, and I want to come back to this book in the future when I have more brainpower to commit to her practices in a meaningful way. Even so, I’ve found this book helpful, and it’s changed my way of thinking/feeling.

A bit too anecdotal and not based in science, HOWEVER I imagine this book may have been helpful to me at a point in my past (perhaps during the time I bought the book) and can certainly be helpful to others.

This is a very useful book for any empath to read, especially one who is new to the subject. I have been actively working with my empathic gifts for many years and still learned from this book.

Reading this book is a great reminder of each persons natural empathetic abilities. The author provides tools that are simple and effective to recharge and reconnect with our empathetic tendencies. I found the information in the appendix chapters to be extremely insightful.

Although this book won't be for everyone, I really appreciated her insight and suggestions for increasing my ability to be empathetic and recognizing those moments when I think I am being empathetic and am not. Very useful information.
