From the author of First Base comes the second swoon-worthy romance in the Chicago Heartbreakers series. Legendary quarterback Nolan Hill has one last shot at a Super Bowl, but it means rehabbing the old injury that's threatening to end his career. When he meets his new physical therapist, Lottie Thompson, his guard goes up. This beautiful and infuriating woman says he needs a new game plan--and stubborn Nolan isn't willing to concede. Charlotte “Lottie” Thompson has turned a love of football into a successful career as a physical therapist. When Lottie gets her dream job with the Chicago Bobcats, she's assigned to work with Nolan--and the two immediately clash. But neither will back down, and the more time they spend together, the more these sworn enemies realize that the sparks between them aren’t hatred, but something else entirely...

i tried finishing the book, just like i did for the first book of the series, but i couldn't feel the chemistry between lottie and nolan no matter how much i dive deeper into the book
going for two is about lottie, a doctor who gives physio treatment to the chicago bobcats' players. nolan, the team's quarterback, got injured and is currently playing his last season. lottie feels she's missing out on life because she has been career-driven all her life, and nolan can't process the fact that he's about to retire because the sport was everything he knew.
the storyline is great, i admit, but i could not connect to the characters, which i always look for when it comes to reading books. what i enjoyed about this book is that lottie's struggles are written so well and realistically. i think i could relate to her because i also think i'm missing out on my life.
overall, this would definitely the books for people who thinks that they're missing out on life because all they do is work, and for people who loves sports romances.
Thank you to NetGalley, and 8th Note Press for the ARC in exchange of my honest review.
3.5/5⭐️ This was a cute football romance and I really liked this author and her writing style! Lottie is such a hardworking and incredibly smart woman who knows what she wants (sort of). I really enjoyed seeing her work through her issues that she got from a rough childhood and finally finding happiness again. Nolan is a hardworking headed stubborn man but once he saw Lottie its like the whole hard shell exterior just melted away. He’s definitely a workaholic who needs a hobby outside of work. But watching him and Lottie grow their relationship was adorable.
I think Olivia was definitely my favorite in this book! Closed door romance with a small amount of angst!
Look out. Here comes my new favourite sport romance….maybe EVER!!!

I loved Lottie! I wanted to be her and she as a character will stay with me for a very long time. I loved her feistiness, determination, love for sport and vulnerability that she showed. And Nolan!!! Our teddy bear of a quarterback! He had a lot of personal growth that you can’t help but root for! While that is said; he showed the hard side of being a professional athlete; the emotional turmoil and mental health aspects that come into play. I can’t say I’ve ever tested up during a sporting event before but I sure did during this book!
I loved all the side characters, how in detail the football games were and the low level of spice was shocking but much appreciated! I didn’t read the first one (but will now) and never felt like I missed anything! I highly recommend
chicago heartbreakers is quickly becoming one of my favourite sporting romance series! big fan of both workplace romances & when the guy falls first. a book that, at times, made me kick my feet and giggle and, at others, made me cry.what more could you ask for?! i also loved the cameos of tommy & maggie from book 1! (sensing a derek & olivia book in my future) love love love. thank you netgalley & embla books for this advanced reader copy — releases on the 1st october 2024. highly recommend!
I was a fan of Ally's debut, First Base but let me tell you, i am a SUPER FAN of Going For Two. Lottie and Nolan are quite simply the perfect pairing of sass and care and i was thoroughly entertained by their banter for the entire book. I also really enjoyed how Ally made the guys from the MLB team in the last book friends with the guys on the NFL team in this one. It just made my heart happy to see a fun, (mostly) healthy dynamic in a group of guys carry over into both books. Ally does a great job of showing conflict and triggers in a way that feels very real, without falling into the trap of the miscommunication trope. Things don't always work out for her characters and they don't always handle situations well, but you never feel like the conflict is pointless. You see real growth in both Lottie and Nolan throughout this book and it genuinely was a delight to see them grow into better people together. I also love how her books have women absolutely killing it in male-dominated fields. I really think she did a fantastic job of showing how difficult it is to be at the top in these fields as a woman without glossing over why or being a Debbie downer about it. Lottie is a force to be reckoned with in this book and it's a joy to see. All in all, i was grinning for the entirety of this book and it has started my fall off on a wonderful note. If you are looking for a delightful sports romance to keep you company as football season is getting underway, take this as your sign to put Going For Two at the top of your TBR.
I absolutely loved the first book in the series so I couldn’t wait to read the second book! Needless to say I loved this one just as much as the first one and cannot wait for the next book in the series. This book can be read as a standalone even though Tommy and Maggie from the first book make an appearance.
🏈 Physical Therapist X Quarterback 🏈 Grumpy x Sunshine 🏈 Closed door romance
Some of my favorite quotes: “You must learn how to mold some of the worst parts of yourself to be better suited for the person you’re with. Because sometimes the perfect person for you is the person who will call you on all your bullshit.”
“What I didn’t expect was for you to still see through all my different pretenses and accept me for it all while working with me to figure out how you could best help me achieve everything I want.”
“I’m tired of watching you play second fiddle to everyone else around you in your life. When are you going to go after what you want instead of always playing it cautious solely because that’s what is expected of you?”
““But only because we understand when it’s time to stop choosing ourselves and start choosing the other person. It’s a give and take.”
I found lots of it was just too wordy- 10 sentences were used instead of 1, and it needed a really good chop down to get to the actual bones of the story. There were parts of the book where nothing really seemed to happen for quite a while and it started to drag.
I really liked Nolan, and loved how confident Lottie was in her role with the team. The way she built a friendship with Nolan and gained his trust was lovely, but I just wanted to see a bit more of their chemistry building up and then more of them actually together. There was at times a lot of telling but not much showing, and I think that would have made a big difference to the story.
Nolan was pretty swoony when it came to helping Lottie tick off her bucket list items, but those chapters often felt a bit rushed which was a shame.
Overall a cute read with a potentially great story that just needed a bit more behind it.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
This was a cute sports romance but there was SO much potential to make it amazing 😭
It started out really strong- our FMC Lottie gets hired as the physical therapist for an NFL team, and *surprise surprise* enter the grumpy NFL player, Nolan, recovering from an injury during his last season. Which I LOVE, don’t get me wrong!!! Lottie was driven & determined to be successful and I really admired that about her. Nolan was the typical grumpy MMC with a hidden soft side and I loved him! So no issues with the characters really.
The story was just TOO wordy and really started to drag. There was so much back & forth with their relationship and being friends then lovers then friends I was like ??? MAKE UP YOUR MIND 🤣!! I wish we had more on-page chemistry and tension. I really couldn’t understand why the characters liked each other, outside of proximity leading to attraction honestly. This was a closed-door romance which I also didn’t expect, but it was done nicely!
Overall, I liked this but it was just missing something.
Thank you Netgalley & the author for this arc!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was a cute read that had a lot of potential. I am forever in my sports romance era, and am always a sucker for a football romance. I really liked the authors style and wanted to love this one so much. Nolan and Lottie were both strong characters and I enjoyed their dynamic and navigating a workplace romance.
✨ Football Romance ✨ Workplace Romance ✨ Grumpy MMC ✨ He Falls First ✨ Close Proximity
I enjoyed the relationship between Nolan and Lottie, and the plot of Lottie being the one to help Nolan back from an injury. There was a decent amount of chemistry between the characters and a man who falls first is always a plus.
This one is closed door and I wanted more tension and a realistic adult relationship and did find that the angst was balance well with the plot!
I would recommend this to people that don’t like spice but love sports but if you are a spicy reader this one is more cute than sexy.
Going for Two by Ally Wiegand Release Date : October 1st, 2024 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
Going for Two is such a cute football romance that strikes a great balance between heart and humor. The main character, Lottie, is incredibly strong, hardworking, and resilient. Her backstory is emotional, but seeing her growth and transformation throughout the book is amazing.
Y’all the audacity of Henry had my jaw on the floor. Thankfully he didn’t come back in the story 🤣 The found family dynamic in this book is one of its sweetest aspects, offering warmth and depth to the story.
The banter between characters was another highlight. There were moments that genuinely had me laughing out loud, especially Derek. I hope we get to see more from him.
Overall, if you're a fan of football romances Going for Two is definitely worth a read.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publishing team for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Going for Two is the second instalment in the Chicago Heartbreaker series. In this one, we follow a new sport and two new protagonists, Lottie and Nolan.
Much like the first, I really love how Wiegand managed to balance the sport / workplace aspect with the romance. I also really loved the team and the side character and I loved how the series is interconnected, so it was great to see Maggie and Tommy and co. keep popping back in.
I felt like both characters got adequate page time and character development, however I do wish we got to explore what it is like for Lottie to be a woman in the industry. This was touched upon, however it wasn’t really explored in depth. Alternatively, Lottie had mentioned she was at peace with where she was at in her career etc…and there seemed to be space to explore this particular storyline more with a reporter. Potential future book maybe?!
3.75 stars rounded up. It’s not quite higher because I felt some parts felt bit too repetitive/too much of the same back and forth and I didn’t enjoy it.
Another great book in this series! Always love a sports romance and this one was so good! Seeing both characters overcome lots of things so they can be together was so cute!
I really enjoyed Ally Weigand’s first book in this series so I was excited to receive another ARC for Going For Two.
Overall I enjoyed this book! Sports Romances aren’t my usual go to genre but I like these. I enjoy the characters, friendships and found family portrayed in these books. I felt like there was a little something missing between the main characters, I wish they had just a little more detail and chemistry? I can’t quite put my finger on it. But I gave this book a very solid 3.75 star! I liked it a lot and I look forward to hopefully a third book in the series!
Tropes: 🏈 Rivals to Lovers 🏈 Opposites Attract 🏈 Grumpy X Sunshine
Lottie is the new physical therapist to the Chicago Bobcats and Nolan is their legendary quarterback facing the decision of whether this is his final year in the NFL after a bad injury in the last season. Nolan is reluctant to follow Lottie’s rehabilitation program ( he is so grumpy it’s great) until they strike a deal… he follows her plan to make this season his best and together they will complete her bucket list ( and maybe fall in love in the process).
The dynamic between Lottie and Nolan was developed really well, they contrasted each other with Lottie putting a lot of things in perspective for Nolan, while he pushes her out of her comfort zone and ensures she gets everything on her bucket list completed.
I found that the pacing of the story and the character development was done really well without sacrificing too much of one for the other and I ultimately really enjoyed this book ( I actually think I enjoyed this more than the first book which feels illegal).
Lottie had some tough past experiences that forced her to grow up fast and her bucket list was an outlet for her to heal her inner child and I really loved the way this was explored as an avenue for both herself and Nolan’s development individually and together.
As a mood reader I wanted a light hearted romance with some absolutely phenomenal character development ( and a great ensemble of supporting characters) and that is what Ally Wiegand delivered. Lottie and Nolan were inevitable and yet I still found myself rooting for them to get together.
I cannot wait for book 3 in this series… hopefully Olivia and Derek 🤞🏻🤞🏻( please please please)
A big thank you to NetGalley, Embla Books and Ally Wiegand for the ARC of “ Going for Two”
*Thank you to 8th Note Press and NetGalley for this eARC; the review is my own.*
This book was pretty on par with the first book in the series, though the plot is much more plausible to me. (In the first book, I found it difficult to believe that a team's PR department would devise a whole are relationship between a baseball player and the team photographer as a response to a paparazzi photo that wasn't even scandalous.)
I found myself often frustrated with the lack of communication between Lottie (32, I believe) and Nolan (mid-30s?), as well as their hot-and-cold relationship. However, I did like the two of them together and the way they helped each other face and overcome their challenges. It was also fun to see brief glimpses of Maggie and Tommy from the first book. Olivia, who was one of my favorite characters from the first book, also had a prominent role in this one since she was Lottie's younger sister. Now I'm just waiting to see if she gets her own book, which I think she should.
So why three stars? Honestly, that's not a bad rating to me. I enjoyed the book. It was a fun diversion whenever I picked it up, and the writing was fairly easy to read (I assume any errors/redundancies/confusing wording would have been corrected prior to publishing). I would read future books in the series if they were written. But I didn't find myself thinking about it outside of reading or telling myself "just one more chapter" when it was time to go to bed, which is why it's a 3-star book for me instead of a 4- or 5-star book. Three stars is still good.
How it ends:
Language: Yes, including f words. Violence: No Physical Intimacy: A couple of open-door sex scenes. LGBT: No
I want to thank Netgalley, 8th Note Press, and Ally for the opportunity to be able to read this before the release🫶🏼 (October 1st it comes out!!) Although this is book two of her Chicago Heartbreakers series, this is my first book of hers I have read and now I will be most definitely buying the ebook of the first as soon as I am able and reading that one too!
This was such a cute perfect little football sports romance especially since the season is starting back up now! I admired the characters, I enjoyed the authors writing a lot, and I truly can’t wait for more! I am eager to read more of Ally’s work!
Lottie is one hell of a FMC. I really absolutely liked her. One hardworking, smart, and honest woman who tends to know what she wants (even if she’s battling against it in her thoughts). It was lovely to watch her character develop and become stronger for herself as the story went on.
Nolan was enjoyable and so cute. At first definitely a bit of an ass and such stubborn man, but watching himself defrost and become the man he is was incredible to read. He was so determined and also knew what he wanted and I admired that a lot.
I love the tropes in this book, the characters, and the side characters (who I am so ready to read about, especially since I haven’t read book one yet!). I giggled and kicked my feet so much. I love feeling so giddy with romances.
This is an interconnected series, but I so wish I read the first before this just so I could get some insight on some of side characters. But I will be reading the first soon once I get through some planned TBR reads!! (:
Tropes: 📖 workplace romance 📖 physical therapist x football player 📖 He falls first (and hard) 📖 Grumpy x sunshine 📖 Closed Door Romance (little bit of angst) & more!! 🏈💓
Another amazing sports romance from Ally Wiegand. For the girls who like spicy reads, this is not the series for you. But if you're in love with serious tension, then please pick this up because the tension between the two main characters in this book was incredible! Nolan and Lottie began the story definitely in a bit of a complicated situation, given Nolan absolutely refused to let Lottie do her job. But over time, she slowly tore down his walls and the friendship and trust that built between them felt so authentic. The romance didn't start immediately, although they did have a couple of 'slips' that would make you think the romance was starting before it did. I absolutely loved these little slips because it only further enhanced the tension between them as they kept trying to shut down their growing feelings for each other. As individuals, these two had a lot of insecurity that was affecting their relationship, and I did enjoy exploring Lottie's history with her family and Nolan's hesitance around his career ending. I think these two aspects of the story got a lot more focus than I personally would have preferred though, which meant that in the third act breakup when they started to really focus on themselves, my intrigue waned a bit and I started skimming whole paragraphs. I don't think the detail spent on those more emotional aspects was a bad thing, it just wasn't my preference and it slowed down the pace of the story during a really high-tension third-act breakup. But the ending of this story was so incredibly sweet, and I loved that they both got what they wanted in the end. The last things I want to mention are the family and the commentary around being a woman in sports. I reckon the latter could have been delved into a little bit more, because I really did appreciate the conversation being started and I think it could have been interesting to have more than a few comments around it scattered here and there. As for the family, particularly Olivia, I'm praying that her and Derek are the focus of the next book because I think the romance teased between the two of them would be absolutely addictive and so much fun!
I have read a few football romances where the player and the trainer fall for one another, but Going For Two, is probably one of the most well written with main characters that can talk about football and the trainer hipes up the players to help them play better. Lottie does not like to lose.
Nolan Hill is a legendary quarterback and is in his last season before he retires. He has come back from an injury but he is grumpy and not confident in his leg. When the new physical therapist starts, his guard goes up and he doesn't believe in changing his routine. When Lottie convinces him to give her a chance, he realizes that she knows a lot about football and can help him play to his strengths. He soon gives in and they form a working relationship, until the sparks fly between them and neither one of them can forget what happened, no matter how much they try to avoid one another.
Charlotte "Lottie" Thompson has gone through a lot throughout her life and she has thrown herself into work. She is determined, feisty, and vulnerable when she needs to be. I loved how she was willing to allow Nolan to spoil her and give her everything she never had a chance to experience. I loved how well her sister fit into her life, how close they are, and how she is willing to push Lottie to be better. I had a few times where I teared up while reading this book and I was just as excited as Nolan was during at the end of the book and all of the accomplishments he was able to reach before his retirement. I loved all of the characters and there are a few more that I would like to get to know, like Derek.
Received ARC in exchange for voluntary honest review from NetGalley.
So, I apparently read the first book in this series before I read this one, although I had no recollection of it, which is never a good sign. It as only because certain things were mentioned from the first book that vaguely rang a bell that I realised and checked my previous Netgalley feedback to find out I had read it.
This book is about Nolan and Lottie. Lottie is the sister of Olivia, who I can only assume was mentioned in the first book. Hell, Lottie probably was too, how would I know?
This was a sports romance which was heavy on the sports, which I enjoyed. Despite not knowing much about American Football, I still enjoy a story that has a lot of sports throughout. I guess, I just love a sports romance.
There was good chemistry between Lottie and Nolan from the beginning - she is the team's physio and has the not so fun task of getting Nolan to coperat with therapy. I like the whole grumpy athlete vibe but felt that it didn't go on for long and Lottie wasn't sunshine enough to balance it out.
The book started off quite fast paced but then it seedmed to slow down at around 60% and got quite samey. I definitely think this story was 100 pages longer than it needed to be.
Overall, I wouldn't say I hated it, I enjoyed it enough to anticipat a Derek & Olivia story but other than that, I wouldn't say it was an absolute must read. While this wasn't a bad book, I have read many more who have done this sort of trope but better.
ARC Review- This was a 3 ⭐️read. Lottie is a new physical therapist for the Chicago Bobcats and Nolan is a legendary quarterback who is riding on his last season.
Long time coming, but here we go. I downloaded this a while back, but I never got around to it. Starting off, I didn’t know what to expect. I’m not in my football era, but I can’t keep waiting for a moment that will never come. So I started it with no thoughts in mind. The book is very detailed in the sports aspect, which I do like, but I just feel a disconnect from the characters. I feel like I need to connect with the characters in the first few chapters to fall in love with a book. Lottie and her career are commendable, but I didn’t connect to her!! In the first part, all I got was that she is obsessed with her relationship status (or lack thereof). What I got from Nolan from the first few chapters was that he fell way too fast, way too soon. I wanted more of an internal fight against himself. Onto the relationship, the chase is too short!! Give me some bickering and flirting. So they were together but not at the same time. Which brings me to my next thing. The slow burn of them actually getting together was too much and went on for too long. They realized they had feelings for one another way too early, and their situationship (?) went on for so long before it was an official relationship.
On one hand, I know they’re perfect for one another because of the push for each other to be the best that they can both be individually. But on the other hand, why are there so many side stories and characters? If you’re in your football era, this book is def for you.
"If you'd been alive during the time of the Romans, your beauty would have been immortalized in stone."
SHUT THE FUCK UP!?!
Ally Wiegand the woman you are!
When I got sent this book because I loved First Base, I wasn’t sure how you were going to follow it but oh MY GOD!
Going for Two is easily a 5 star read for me. A 10/10. I picked it up and simply didn’t put it down. I absolutely DEVOURED it.
Nolan and Lottie are so special to me, both holding such high levels of self doubt and a need to prove to themselves that they are capable.
I love this book, I love this series, I love this author.

“…my feelings for you aren't going anywhere, Lottie. If you want to wait until after the season, that's fine. But I'm not changing how I treat you. That would be a disservice to what you deserve."
"I just want to be extremely clear, Lottie… The second this season is over, we are going to be having this conversation again. I understand you want to wait till I'm retired and no longer a player. When that confetti falls from the ceiling of the stadium after we win the Super Bowl, you'll be the person I want to share it with."
“She looked like a goddess that myths would be written about. I paused for just a moment as I stood above her. If it were possible to keep a mental image forever, this moment with Charlotte Thompson would be the one I'd want to have.”
Dr Lottie Thompson has finally achieved her dream job as the newest physical therapist for the Chicago Bobcats NFL team. Champion quarterback Nolan Hill is struggling after an injury two years ago. This is his last season to achieve a third superbowl ring, but his fears have made him a grumpy shadow of his normally effusive self. Sparks fly in more ways than one when Nolan discovers Lottie is determined to help him.
I adored Ally Wiegand’s debut ‘First Base’ and thought it was one of the stronger sports romances out there. I can safely say that ‘Going for Two’ cements my assertions as Wiegand writes an emotional truth about Lottie and Nolan that made me understand why they are the way they are and how they learn to heal. Lottie and Nolan were so adorable and I loved learning all their hidden layers and hurdles which stop them from going after their happiness. I appreciated watching their growth individually and as a couple with a future.
There's an insta attraction, developed slowly as they both grapple with their personal issues. I really appreciated that the focus here was on their developing relationship instead of heading to early declarations of love and spice scene without seeing the genuine connection. Instead, we see many smaller moments where Lottie and Nolan step up for each other. I also appreciated the sage advice dished out to both by their friends.
I can’t wait for the third book, which I’m assuming will feature Olivia and Derek.
Thanks to Embla Books/8th Note Press and NetGalley for the ARC.
I absolutely loved First Base, Wiegand's first novel, and was so excited for this one to come out. I don't know if going in blind the last time made a difference because I was a bit underwhelmed this time. The story was slow to start, but did pick up. I don't remember the last being as low spice, but that is a total me thing and I should have checked. I definitely like more spice content in a sports romance, and while I felt like something was missing in that regard, there was a good bit of angst that kept the momentum up.
Lottie and Nolan were fun characters to read. I especially loved how Lottie was written. She had made so many goals so far in her life career wise, and she recognized that there was more that she wanted. I liked how she wasn't averse to dating and was excited about this new chapter in her life. I liked how in tune she was with herself and her desires, while also being career driven in a male dominated industry.
Nolan was the obstinate one here for a while, but Lottie quickly melted his grumpy persona. I liked how his place in life was opposite of hers and that he had enough of a relationship past to not be the 38 year old perpetual playboy. I also liked how he fell hard and fast for Lottie even though he did not want to. She brought out the best in him, and knew just what to say to encourage him to be better and do better. It was a fun dynamic to read!
Overall, quick and cute football romance that has me itching for what's next!
Ally Wiegand has done an amazing job at creating a spectacular romance that involves real topics in the sports world! She tackled the topics of a woman having a career in sports, and the doubt that she faces with others not knowing what she is capable of, just because she is a woman in sports. I also loved how she touched on Nolan's feelings about his injury and as well as get his perspective. I adored that this book was not just based on a romance between Lottie and Nolan, but it also had their own work conflicts, and even personal conflicts and stuff they went through!
I adored the romance between Lottie and Nolan, because Lottie was just so relatable to me in so many ways, so I loved seeing some representation of woman and real topics that happen in life, and it is so unique for a romance book to feel like a warm hug, but Ally did it so amazingly! And men written by women do not compare! Nolan is the biggest gentleman and I loved how he realized his mistakes, and although not being perfect, he tried his best to right his wrongs and really work for love!
I will always look forward to Ally's writing and anything she works on, this book was also perfect because football season is in play and this gave off cozy night football vibes!
Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for an e-Arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Charlotte “Lottie” Thompson, a no-nonsense physical therapist, is assigned to help legendary quarterback Nolan Hill rehab his injury, giving him one last shot at the Super Bowl. Sparks fly as their two stubborn personalities clash, but their fiery banter soon reveals an undeniable chemistry. With everything on the line, will they overcome their differences to score love?
Going for Two is a touchdown in every way (pun intended)!
Lottie is a powerhouse—a strong, assured woman thriving in a male-dominated field, and I loved how fiercely she held her ground against Nolan’s grumpy, hardheaded antics. While Nolan, for his part, is equal parts infuriating and endearing, with layers of vulnerability beneath his tough exterior that make his personal growth so satisfying.
Their banter was sharp, hilarious, and filled with sizzling chemistry. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic was short-lived (which I liked) since their relationship fairly quickly evolved into a reluctant friendship/work partnership as they worked through their issues.
With found family vibes and Lottie and Nolan growing into stronger people together, this football romance is a must-read!
Tropes: -enemies to -overs -sports (football) romance -workplace womance -quarterback x team's physical therapist -forced proximity -strong heroine in a male-dominated field -slow burn -found family
I chose this book because I enjoy a sports romance and I loved the idea that the main female character, Lottie, was the physical therapist for the football team. Finally, a main lead who is smart, confident, and determined to be the best of the best in her field. She took no nonsense from any of the players and focused on getting them healthier!
Overall, I liked this story. I thought it was cute and had so much potential. But I felt like it lacked something that made it stand out. There were times that the story dragged without much happening. I thought it could have been wrapped up earlier- I thought it was over and I was only at 70%. I also felt like the story lacked the romance once the main characters got together. That scene where Nolan showed Lottie what it means to lean into someone had so much tension and I loved it, but I did not feel much of that afterwards. I also disliked how indecisive Lottie was with the relationship- she was in, then she just wanted to be friends, and then back together- it was too much. Lottie needed to work on herself before she started having a relationship with Nolan. She was so confident in her work but lacked it in her relationships. I thought this was a cute and fun romance, I just wished for more!
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Synopsis: Nolan Hill has one last chance at taking his team to Superbowl before he retires at the end of this season, but it means rehabbing an old injury. Enter Dr. Charlotte Thompson, his new physical therapist. Lottie has worked hard to secure her dream job with the Chicago Bobcats, and when she meets Nolan, sparks fly - and not the good kind. But as they spend more time together, they start realizing those sparks might mean something else ...
It's been awhile since I read a football romance and this one had me feeling so giddy! I really liked Ally Wiegand's first book, but I LOVED this one! I could not put it down. I was completely enraptured by Nolan and Lottie's love story. Lottie had a rough childhood and daddy issues (me tbh), and such a love for football (also me). She was such a force to be reckoned with in this male-dominated industry. Our mmc Nolan is a grumpy cinnamon roll who I absolutely adored. He has to do some major groveling early on in the book, and I went WEAK in the knees for him! His character growth was just insanely good. Both characters have some internal and external conflicts going on, but I really loved the way Ally handled it all while mostly avoiding the miscommunication trope. And the epilogue in this one was one of my favorites I've ever read. Their HEA just made me so happy.
I can't wait for the next installment to this series.
TROPES: - enemies to lovers - grumpy x sunshine - football romances - workplace romance - forced proximity - close door romance (but things get steamy dw)
They both need some TLC but they are both strong characters in the same. They work together to make him a stronger player, to keep him safe. Lottie is also able to help him become a better leader and help him see that there is more to his career than be the star quarterback. He can share his quarterback skills and knowledge. She helps him be a better and happier person. All the while he loves her through her daddy issues. Lottie was dealt a rough hand on the parent end, but she is mature enough now to grow from it.
The two develop feelings for each other, and one doesn't care that anyone knows (Nolan) and the other wants to protect her career. As a female in a male dominated industry, Lottie is careful to do her job beyond well and to not fall into the trap that male owners in the league are sure to put other women into. Nolan becomes all to aware of this and works harder to protect her and gives her time and space. Their agreement is to date officially after Nolan's last season, and when he contemplates playing another season the feelings established by her father come up, and she feels as though Nolan may choose football over her, just as her father did, her entire life.
Thank you Ally and NetGalley for the opportunity to ARC this sweet read!
